continue running your mouth upandan. Spain has no choice cos this is Europe. Suspending catalan autonomy amount suspending people's will and that's a declaration of war. Aside the fact that it could earn catalonia some international support, it will rally anti independence catalans towards independence, making future unity even more difficult.

PoliticsNot Just Catalonia, Three More Places With Dreams Of Independence- Time Magazine by Noneroone(op):
Self determination is in the air. We began last week with a Kurdish referendum in Iraq, and we ended it with a raucous Catalan referendum in Spain; neither may amount to much, at least in the short term. But hope is a hard thing to extinguish, as "separatist" movements around the world can tell you. Here, 3 others holding out hope in 2017:
Biafra
A country of 250+ ethnic groups, Nigeria declared independence from Britain in 1960, but a couple of military coups in 1966 stoked underlying ethnic tensions. In 1967, southern groups (led by the Igbo people, one of Nigeria’s three major ethnic groupings) declared the independent Republic of Biafra in Nigeria’s south. Nigeria refused to recognize the breakaway state, and a 3-year civil war ensued. All told, more than 1 million people lost their lives, many due to starvation. Biafra surrendered in 1970.
But defeating a secession movement on the battlefield is a far cry from defeating its spirit — and nearly half a century later, the dream of Biafra remains alive. These and other nationalist currents continue to make Nigerian politics choppy, as does a president whose frail health has the country continuously on edge.
Southern leaders have rejected secession calls as impractical. But the movement for Biafran statehood is still considered enough of a threat that the Nigerian military declared the Biafra separatist movement a terrorist group just a few weeks ago—harkening back to a simpler time when just wanting a homeland of one’s own was enough to be labeled a terrorist.
Flanders
Belgium’s largest political party—the center-right New Flemish Alliance—is actually a secessionist movement, highlighting just how fragmented Belgian politics really is. Belgium is divided into three: Flanders in the north (bordering the Netherlands, predominantly Dutch-speaking), Wallonia to the south (bordering France, predominantly French-speaking), and the Brussels-Capital Region in the relative middle. Modern day Belgium has its roots in 1830, when France supported a brewing rebellion in the Southern Netherlands. Wallonia was the favored region then; today, power has shifted to Flanders and the 60 percent of the country’s Dutch speakers.
In addition to language and culture, economic inequality in recent years has widened the divide. While Wallonia’s per capita GDP is only 88 percent of the EU average (2011 figures, purchasing power standard), Flanders’ GDP per capita is 120 percent above (2014 figures, purchasing power standard)—a sticking point for Flemish residents who see their money being sent to parts of the country that literally speak a different language. For now, the Flemish independence movement has been slow and plodding by design; when the time comes for a referendum—which would be the first on Flemish independence—that strategy may make all the difference.
Donesk and Luhansk
feels a lifetime ago since Vladimir Putin’s top worry was Ukraine moving too far West; it was actually 2013.
To recap: pro-Russia Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych rejected a deal to strengthen Ukraine’s integration with the EU, touching off violent protests in Ukraine. Those protests eventually ran him out of the country, and an enraged Putin invaded Crimea in response. But to really paralyze Ukraine’s movement toward the West, seizing Crimea wasn’t enough; he needed to sow discord from within the country, which is why he stoked the pro-Russian independence movements in the eastern provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk.

[quote author=Sanchez01 post=61151690]I read this severally but could not make sense out of it.

Perhaps you are just too myopic to know the world would not sell arms in the face of impending war. Here's the harsh reality you need to take away from this post; if the U.S refuses to sell to Nigeria, Russia would without stress, just as anti-American countries would. Is it any surprising the the only statements that have been made by the UK on this is nothing but Kanu's citizenship and not on the purported killings per se?

Of course, you would get arms but it would be a replay, another auto restart for you guys to start from the rubbles. Ojukwu had a shot in the war because some parts of the oil region were mapped to his then region. The same does not apply today and except you have something to trade for aids, a repeat would be swift and would be done away with in months.

The British media reported the starvation of the Old Eastern Region during the war and it was sent by Michael Nicholson and his crew who got a bit of support for the hungry folks. So I don't understand your 'maximally shielded' warped narrative from.

Just so you know, the South East is surrounded by other Nigerian states. You were favoured with the Old Eastern region mapping. The same is not applicable today. Until you learn to channel your grievances through your political leaders, your rants come off as that of a someone who needs air to breath. By design, you are all terrorists now. Learn from Catalonia and get people who matter to voice out. [/qstatesou talk more without thinking. I asked a simple question but you couldn't provide answer instead beating about the bush and reading some 1967 scripts. how will Nigeria cope with economic sanctions when millions are already starving in the northeast? a lot has changed since 1967 but deluded people like you have not. Russia is not USSR. Biafra war happened during cold and USSR had interest in many new African states, hence they they use support to woo Nigeria. oau supported Nigerian unity cos many of her members are new states and are still enjoying fragile unity. UK supported Nigeria for oil. today most African nations have moved on and Nigeria is still battling Biafra and most nations now know sth is wrong with Nigeria.

again, Russia has no specific interest in Nigeria now and has Syria their ally to protect.where was Russia when south Sudan separated?

fg is even suspicious of UK on the ipob and radio Biafra issue , and also suspicious of most ECOWAS countries on morocco issue.

most importantly, refugee crisis is worlds biggest problem now. it is the only reason why trump is still selling weapons to Nigeria. Nigeria is big in population and us knows a civil war will lead to massive refugee influx and will prefer partitioning of Nigeria.

This agitation naturally makes you guys less intelligent. Apologies, really, but it's the truth. The Biafran project and the IPOB cause is a strictly Igbo affair. The Avengers are of the core South. Indulge me, please, how are Igbos related to the Avengers?

As much as you want the world to fight your battles, you might need to raise a more dangerous ragtag group that would blow up the Niger Bridge and cripple economic activities in the East before you guys might be taken serious.

Besides, should war break out today, the Nigerian state would generously get weapons and mercs to cut to to size the operations of the opponent, regardless of who they are. You need to ask Ojukwu how he was roundly defeated despite controlling the then oil.

Finally, treat yourself to the stance of the EU on Catalonia, the submission of the American government the same, the stance of Turkey of Kurdistan, the stance of Iraq and Iran on the same, the stance of the American government on Texas and finally, the stand of the British government on Biafra. You just might be amazed.
in all this your emotional and fear laden mumblings you've not told me how Nigeria can withstand trade or arms embargo rather you assume 1967 will repeat itself on a platter not knowing that quite a lot has changed. events of the past few months have shown that the world is seriously watching Nigeria and the UK and us support of dialogue shows no country will support Nigeria in any military solution. you also assume Biafra will not get arms if push comes to shoves. arms are scattered world over and fly into Nigeria in thousands. if book haram without any serious backup could wipe your army then u need to stop boasting and understand that times have changed. millions died of starvation in 1967 but was shielded maximally by the media but a future video from Aba last month got
the world talking.

These guys think Western involvement in the affairs of Nigeria over Biafra and Kanu would make the state lose sleep. Catalans were pummelled and left distraught by the Spanish government on the first of October over a similar issue and neither the UN nor any other country in the world has spoken against or 'threaten' Spain.

The Kurds are presently being threatened with 'excessive force' by not only Turkey but Iran and the much revered UN has been mute.

And then the case of Biafra... The ICC and the Hague might be disturbed repeatedly via their social media handles but it would not change the fact that they would turn a blind eye and pretend.

If anyone wants to secede, let them do so through their politicians in both chambers since our political modus operandi is not the same as Spain's. Until then, anyone who forms a group or riles up the nation would be considered a terrorist.

As it stands, no one can truly claim the army has him just as no one can claim he didn't flee when the Nigerian Army came calling.
continue consoling yourself with some feel statements. you should bother to ask why your govt is troubled. the answer is that most of the nations you compare with Nigeria are relatively dependent and can withstand sanction and isolation for a long period of time. Iraq is not bothered about Kurds leaving and has vowed never violence because they the west is interested in Kurdistan. turkey are the ones pushing them.moreover, any military by Iraq will can lead to arms embargo which will affect their fight against Isis.what Spain did is only unacceptable in European standard. even if they ever choose military option, or ever get sanctioned, they won't be hurt like a regular broke third world. ordinary two months of attack k from avengers your country started hybernating in a recession. what of if she suffers isolation or total arms embargo? where will you get arms unlike Spain that have domestic arms production. check Venezuela under a month of sanction- citizens are begging for food. all countries are not equal and Nigeria is among the least in the economic ladder.

France only assumes that the accusation is about them funding Ipob and not Biafrans in France. once fg cant prove that the French govt is funding ipob this noise will only bring more shame to Nigeria and international recognition for Ipob. you don't even need to be a lawyer to know that the so called proscription cannot be sustained. its just a form of legal backing recognized only by the govt. ipob will just continue agitating peacefully and any case in court regarding their activity will be treated in its own merit. the least this action will earn Nigeria is an arms embargo by the USA since branding a peaceful movement terrorists wasn't part of
the arms deal agreement with the USA.

In as much as I totally condemned Kanus act's and utterances, I totally condemned the Soldiers invasion and acts in that region. The Oyinbos are part of the problems Nigeria faced today simply because of their selfish interests.

No reasonable government or institution will allow any of its affiliates to cede from its as such action will serve as weakness of that government and as such weaken the government.

The grave mistake Olusegun Obasanjo in ceding the Oil rich Bakkasi peninsula to Cameroon shows how weak we are as a nation but no one from the international community raised eye brow because of economic growth that the action meant for the Western countries. Such mistake must never repeat itself in Nigeria.

Germany parted ways at a time but Germany realised it's mistake quickly and come back again as one and now Germany has the largest and the best Economy in Europe. Korea was intruded and both are now paying the ugly price for the cheap actions of theirs.
Sudan despite its Oil potentials allowed itself to be manipulated and it's leaders were brainwashed , till date Sudan has never experience peace. The list goes on.

The larger and bigger a nation is , the more it's respected.

This should serve as advise for Nnamdi Kanu, to desist and apologise to Nigerians for his acts, utterances and mistakes and stop putting his people at severe risks they're currently subjected to.

United we stand. Divided we fall.

Your Excellency

With tears and sorrow, the the Umuahia Youth Movement respectfully write to request the dethronement of Nnamdi Kanu's father as a traditional ruler of our clan.

It beats our imagination that a man who calls himself a Royal father and an Elder could not call his son to other but rather encourage him in hia madness that have plunged umuahis city to a great crisis today.

Sir, recall that umuahia have been the most peaceful capital city in Nigeria to live and do business but just because of one man, we are today facing the wrath of the Federal government of Nigeria.

Our shops, markets, schools, churches and all banks have been shut down. For the past three days we have been indoors for fear of been attacked by the military just because of one man whose father is our traditional ruler.

Based on the above, we herecy request the he be dethroned within 24hrs or we will take the laws into our hands and dethrone him and even stripe him naked and raze his house.

We appeal to every well meaning Nigerians as well to prevail on Gov. Ikpeazu to as a matter of urgency dethrone Nnamdi kanu's father.

We also request the the operation python dance should remain in all streets of umuahia as any attempt to withdraw will make the Ipob criminals rob our shops and houses.

If you read my assertion properly, you'll realize that we're not on the same page. I never said abything about eastern Nigeria being it's own sovereign nation even though i don't doubt that that could also work. I'm talking specifically about regions or states being able to control their resources and decide how they want to develop.
I don't know the page you are in. we are both talking about autonomy and you prefer semi autonomy while i prefer complete autonomy or independence. How do they not relate? unless you mean to tell me that what is worth doing at all is not worth doing well. BTW how do we describe someone who wants autonomy but hates independence other than a coward.
PoliticsRe: Will Igbo's Ever Test The Sit Of Power In Nigeria Again? by Noneroone(m): 5:04pm On Sep 17, 2017
Afam4eva:
I'm not discounting the importance of private investments but i've come to realize that it's not as easy as we make it seem especially as it relates to the east. Nobody invests where there isn't an enabling environment or places that have nothing unique to offer. For instance why will a foreign investor leave Lagos and it's neigbour Ogun state. Also leave Ibadan that's no so far away from Lagos (largest consumer market) to want to invest in the east? It's crazy and not really gonna happen. The only people that invest in the east most of the time are easterners themselves who do so due to the fact that they see it as a way of giving back not necessarily because they feel they'll benefit more from investing in the east than in Lagos. The reason Lagos can attract that kind of investment is because the federal government has put everything in motion from the colonial days to the point that Lagos is just experiencing a natural growth. Lagos does not beg anybody to invest anymore because that's by default the first place any right thinking investor things about.
wow...are you beginning to get some sense.thought you were among those calling for kanu's head. without a people getting their independence in their own sovereign nation, they will never have the power to make macro economic policies which is the foundation of economic development. Any Igbo denying this is either benefitting from nigerian corruption or a plain coward.
