PoliticsRe: Federalism: What States Will Host Regional Capitals? by Noneroone(m): 1:17pm On Nov 19, 2016
Funnicator:
Nowhere was it stated in that link, that a large part of Rivers state will cease to be regarded as SS.

In a democratic setting, the modern way to classify or group a certain people, is to give them a referendum to choose their course, just as Southern Cameroon was given theirs by the British Govt to remain in Nigeria or join Northern Cameroon, they chose the later.

If we remain in a Democratic setting and it gets to point to determine region for Rivers indegenes, the decision will be left with their Chiefs, at best a referendum is conducted.

In the face of heated arguments in support of Federalism, one can look into the future and imagine the fight that will ensue when Regions begin to search for regional capitals.

SS will have it hot as there are over ten ethnic groups in that region.

Akpabio will wish to take the cake, PH Ijaw hot-headed boys will take arms if not given capital. Delta go wan aknowledge their presence. What of Calabar the jewel?

We are only certain of capitals for SE, SW.

The newly created North Central will have what capital. Jos? I hope Saraki won't drag it to his delapidated Ilorin?grin what of regional capitals for North East and North west.

Federalism will cause the real war.grin this time there will be more fight over Regional leadership than Central Govt leadership. Ask Awo and Akintola.
what has PH got to do with Ijaw? Who even told you most of Rivers state will be in SS in case of restructuring? Read and get informed

Were intact but spineless? And everybody reports to the central govt. What is the difference?? Gowon only broke them down to more manageable units.

Don't let us deceive ourselves, Gowon merely completed what was already started by Ironsi. The unitary system started from Ironsi. Don't try and paint it what it's not, and then jump to Gowon to give him all the blames.
you just agreed with me that ironsi left the regions intact but gowon broke it down thereby violating the federal structure. Other things you are talking are not relevant

I have read a lot of literature on the civil war and the issues that led to it to be able to form independent opinions. One thing that rang true throughout my intellectual search for reasons for the war was the fact that there would have been no reactions if there were no actions on the night of January 15, 1966.
you read so many books and only one thing rang through your mind. That is reductionism.
PoliticsRe: Eight Great Events That Led To The Nigerian Civil War by Noneroone(m): 9:37am On Nov 19, 2016

The soldiers didn't kill civilian politicians. Nzeogwu and his band of rebellious soldiers stretched their hands too far by killing Northern political-cum-spiritual leaders. If they had simply executed their colleagues in the army, the civilian population would not have reacted the way it did.
i dont blame you. Many people will think you are lying while in reality you many actually not know the truth considering the standard of education in nigeria and the delibrate relegation of history as a subject in school curriculum.

Soldeirs took active part in the pogrom in northern and western regions massacering civians which gowon admitted when he said "there was no basis for unity".

And what about the decree made by Ironsi that introduced the unitary system? It entrenched federalism right?

Lol, hypocrisy in this country sha. Smh
Ironsi did not abolish regions. The three regions were intact. It was gowon who arbitrarly desolved the federation and created new state without any referendum what so ever as. Infact he declared nigeria a unitary state which effectively started the war.
PoliticsRe: Eight Great Events That Led To The Nigerian Civil War by Noneroone(m): 9:25am On Nov 19, 2016
bejeiodus:
Perpetrators of subsequent bloody coups were quickly rounded up, tried and shot. Ironsi's vacillation between punishing the January 15 boys and pardoning them was the reason why the July 29 coup was staged.
why didnt they in subsequent coups pounce on civilians after rounding up the coup plotters as was done in counter coup of 1966?

bejeiodus:
There was nothing revolutionary about the January 15, 1966 coup. Some mutinous members of the armed forces just plotted a badly skewed coup.

Their actions that night was the chief cause of the civil war. You don't kill people's kinsmen and expect a hug in return.

By the way, people should stop peddling the lie that the boys wanted to install Awolowo as president. There was never a plan like that. They wanted power like their colleagues in other African nations.
why did subsequent bloody coups not result to wars since "people's kinsmen" were killed?
PoliticsRe: Eight Great Events That Led To The Nigerian Civil War by Noneroone(m): 4:47pm On Nov 18, 2016
The creation of the 12 states instantly started the war. It also effectively abolished federalism in Nigeria uptill today.

Here we go again...

America is going into an isolationist era.
Nigeria is a sovereignty, like the US.

Trump is for protecting America age old values of domination by aggression.

Trump can do nothing for Nnamdi Kanu because Kanu free or otherwise will not make America great again.

It will make it look like a typical CIA agenda , not meddling in other countries affairs is one reason trump won.

Nnamdi Kanu has two passports, he is just like US companies , who move thier hq to tax free countries and evade tax while enjoying the American influence and power. To trump Kanu is unpatriotic.

What do you think trump will say when he sees the video of Kanu soliciting for guns and bullets or the picture of Kanu with those guys with guns. He will probably call for the electric chair after he asks Britain to withdraw Kanu citizenship and begin to investigate all Nigerians in that video for supporting terrorism.

You have no idea.

The Hausa is purportedly 21%, Yoruba 21%, Igbo 18% and Fulani 17%, Ijaw are about 10% and others follow.
Though, I have a feeling that the Fulani population is actually padded. They are not more than 9%.
It shows that if Yoruba's, Igbo and Ijaw really wants a political alignment with others in the South and Middlebelt, we can send these guys packing. But, will Igbo amaka allow such? Time will tell.

PoliticsBiafra Seperatists See Hope In Trump- Voice Of America by Noneroone(op):
ABUJA, NIGERIA — The head of the Biafra
separatist movement in Nigeria has written
an open letter to U.S. President-elect Donald
Trump. The movement hopes Trump, who
backed British voters' decision to leave the
European Union, will also support a push
for Biafra to win independence.
The letter, sent by a Nigerian activist named
Nnamdi Kanu, contains a forceful appeal to
the U.S. president-elect.
It says Trump's victory placed upon him a
"historic and moral burden ... to liberate the
enslaved nations in Africa," which it says
are trapped in artificial boundaries
designed to reinforce colonial domination.

Kanu currently sits in a prison in the
Nigerian capital, Abuja, charged with
treason for supporting a movement calling
for territories in southeastern Nigeria to
break away and form a country called
Biafra.
Biafra tried to break away once before —
in a three-year war starting in 1967 that
left at least 1 million people dead, mostly
from starvation.
Kanu and other activists hope Trump will
be sympathetic to a new push for Biafran
independence.
"[Trump] believes in the inalienable right of
an indigenous people to self-determination
and he has spoken it,” said Clifford Iroanya,
a spokesman for the Indigenous Peoples of
Biafra organization. “He has written it. He
has acted it. We believe he will support
indigenous people all over the world to
self-determine."

Disappointed in Obama

Iroanya says he was pleased when Trump
expressed support for Britain's decision to
leave the European Union with a tweet on
June 24 that said, "Self-determination is the
sacred right of all free people."
Biafra supporters say they too have self-
determination, and should be allowed to
break away from Nigeria.
The Biafran movement was disappointed
with outgoing U.S. President Barack
Obama, who they saw as a supporter of
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

"Then we felt that there is no point
proceeding with talking to Mr. Obama
because it will be like preaching to the
choir. He is the backbone of Muhammadu
Buhari," Iroanya said.
Buhari was the one who ordered Kanu to
be held in custody.
Buhari, who had a long career in the
Nigerian military, fought against Biafran
independence when he was a young
soldier and maintains a hard line against
the Biafra movement.
Kanu remains in custody on instructions
from Buhari, despite orders from Nigerian
courts and a regional West African court to
release him.

Opposition to war

Many Biafra supporters do not want to
return to war.
Ifeanyi Nsionu was a 6-year-old boy when
the Biafra War broke out in 1967.
"We really suffered,” Nsionu said. “We were
in a refugee camp. And then they were
feeding us in the camp. It was horrible. We
had to eat lizards. All these guys that are
agitating for this Biafra thing, a majority of
them are those who may not have
witnessed this war. They do not
understand what it is to be in a civil war."
Nsionu says reaching out to Trump is not a
bad idea, although he doesn't expect the
U.S. president-elect to do much for Nigeria.
"I did support Trump right from the
beginning,” he said. “I wanted a complete
change from Obama's policy. Obama's
policy for Africa was not encouraging. I
don't know the ideology of Trump now,
but I know that Trump will be after
America first. By the time he stays the next
four years and he must have done what he
wanted to do for America, he may begin to
see what else is happening elsewhere."
Nsionu can only hope that when that time
comes, Trump will throw his support
behind the Biafra movement.

Obama is truely a disaster. He is not only a pro islam but a pro radical islam. He hates moderate muslims. He hated yaradua and put Nigeria in terror watch list in guise of responding to abdulmutalab's failed attack. He hated mubarak, hated ghadaffi and hates Al assad. Who does he like? He funds syrian rebels who have clearly been infilterated by ISIS, he likes turkish president who has softspots for ISIS and supports their quest to be admitted into EU, he likes muslim brotherhood in Egypt, he wants to lift sanction on iran to enable them continue their nuclear program. He supports Buhari despite unpresidented human right abuses and bloodsheds and even plans to sell him arms.

He uses Russiaphobia to brainwash democrats. He truly is a disaster.

Somehow the victory of trump marked the victory of Social media over the traditional media no wonder they now rant out of frustration. They even blamed facebook for helping Trump win through 'fake news'. CNN and other liberal channels may have over estimated their influence when they were attacking Trump before the election. According to a survey, 62% of Americans get their news via the social media, 16% via print and 23% via TV.
