What you guys are arguing about is no different from the Egg and Chicken question; Which one came first?

@ Beaf

I agree with what you have posted and it makes a lot of sense but do you know why most people will not agree with you? Because you usually defend the indefensible. I understand you have a job selling the ideas of your boss to Nigerians but there are sometimes when you have to take a step back and objectively analyse situations and view it from the eyes of the ordianry man.

FOOD FOR THOUGH BY LRNZH on The Economist website

The basic salary of a Nigerian Senator (Aug. 2010) is about N29.5 Million ($196,000 USD) per annum. The yearly allowances for the same Senator is about N225 Million  ($1.5 Million USD).Total LEGAL earnings: N254 Million  ($1.696 Million USD) per annum for a single Senator in Nigeria.

Nigeria per capita GDP (2010): $2,500 USD
Nigeria (population: 155 Million ) has 109 Senators
Minimum wage of an average employed Nigerian: $1,350 USD per annum
Social Security: None

For reference the US President earns $559,000 USD per annum (incl. allowances)
A US Senator earns between $175,000 and $200,000 USD in a year
US per capita GDP (2010): $47,200 USD
US (population: 312 Million) has 100 Senators
US minimum wage: $15,000 USD
Social Security: Old-age, Disability, Unemployment, Medicare etc

If The Nigerian Gov't cannot cut down the huge costs of maintaining its large size why does it expect the Nigerian populace to bear the cost of its failures?

Where refineries are truly functional in Nigeria fuel prices won't jump from 65N/litre to 141N/litre in one day due to a deregulation.

Pro-subsidy removal (in its present form) supporters forget that 141N/litre is not a true petrol market price but set by the PPPRA. That is not deregulation but just price increase.
They are also quick to point to the deregulation of the Telecommunication sector in 2001 as an example of why the fuel price increase as carried oun on Jan 1 is right.
Telecomms is not a necessity. The rich were the first to adopt it and as prices fell due to competition, the less privileged joined.
Petrol cannot be treated the same way. The effects will be felt immediately by all and sundry.
Also, Gov't did not set prices for handsets or sim cards like PPPRA did for petrol (true-deregulation).

My call is (within two years)
refurbish the 4 existing refineries first
deregulate the downstream (petrol prices won't be as high as 141N/litre)
then privatise the fully functional refineries.

The Petroleum Industry Bill provides a framework for a proper deregulation of the downstream.

It is not easy to oppose a Gov't, they're doing their job but in this case it is glaring that there are better alternatives than to raise fuel prices (hence commodity prices) impromptu by 120%. Period.

Politics / Re: Pdp Accuses Cpc Of Inciting Nigerians by norrisman: 1:17pm On Jan 13, 2012
I dont support El Rufai but wouldnt it have been easier for him to remain in the PDP if all he really wants is to chop money. Same thing goes for Buhari; wouldnt it be easier for him to cross carpet like many of our politrickians are known to do, to the PDP (The winning party) if he was really that despearte to be president of Nigeria.
Politics / Re: Fuel Subsidy: NLC Suspends Strike For The Weekend by norrisman: 12:54pm On Jan 13, 2012
Dont be dumb guys. Saturday and Sunday are work free days so a strike wouldnt normally apply on those days. I like the NLCs game here. They have dangled a carrot before the government to make it look like they are suspending the strike temporarily when they reall are not.

If the police under the direction of Retardeen as C in C murdered your son a la Ademola Aderinde, I wonder if you will be wishing him long life and prosperity as he consumes his N3 million Loius Vuitton rice and Gucci beans while you run around looking for funds to bury your son who you toiled and suffered to train for 25 years.

Your level of id!ocy never fails to stun and amaze.

No, its the area boys that are beating people up in Lagos and the almajiri's burning cars and buildings in Niger state that understand the "macro and micro economic benefits of subsidy removal."

Who is fooling who?

Please, do not compare the UK and Nigeria, cos the UK would never do anything as daft as subsidising fuel. They subsidise things like research and development, high tech startup businesses etc; they don't do fuckry, thatds why they are developed.

U r the dumb one. The Almajiris are protesting against something that affects their lives i.e. The cost of everything doubling overnight! No ordinary citizen goes out to protest in support of a policy which makes him poorer but some economist explains it is for a better future. Thats the reason why I cited the UK as a example. People protest against public spending cuts because it affects their pockets but I am yet to see a protest by anyone in support of the cuts because it will make their future brighter. That crowd in your picture looks too hungry and not intelligent enough to honestly protest in support of a policy which makes them poorer but may pay off in the long run.

I work in Transport in the UK where Rail and Bus travel is heavily subsidized by the goverment and local councils. Healthcare is also subsidized (free) so stop misinforming.
Politics / Re: FG, Labour Move Towards Compromise by norrisman: 8:29pm On Jan 12, 2012
@ beaf

U r a bloody joker. Do you really believe in your heart that those hungry looking guys believe in or understand the much touted macro and micro economic benefits of subsidy removal?

For argument sake, lets assume that the subsidy removal is for the good of the country, no ordinary citizen in their right senses will organise a rally to support it. It just flies in the face of logic. In the UK, there have been massive cuts in the public sector spending and the government has provided documents why this is necessary and all. There have been protests and strikes against this cut in public spending but I am yet to see a rally (protest) in favour of it. Maybe it is because there are no rent-a-crowd rallies in the UK

Guys, instead of wasting your time on this dude (beaf), why not just let him be whatever he wants, while you stay focus on watching the outcome of the protest.
This is just the beginning. Nigerians are getting smarter by every second. A baby must craw before he or she walks. What is on ground is way too big and serious to come over here to entertain this dolt.

Did NLC kill the guy in Ilorin or the guy in Ogba where there is documented photo evidence that showed that Ademola posed no threat to the Animals-in-human-skin before he was summarily executed?

Your C in C of such a police force can ot be trusted.

whatever the outcome, I pray God keeps us alive to see if Nigeria will be any better than it is today despite the claim of massive infrastructural development that is being promised by the Badluck administration

justwise:

so in your own fat brain the killings by Boko Haram doesn't affect everybody directly or indirectly?

Armed robbery affects everyone directly or indirectly - why have you not organised your family to protest? Armed robbers killed more people than Boko haram in 2011
Bad roads affect everyone directly or indirectly - why have you not organised your family to protest? Bad roads killed more people than Boko Haram in 2011
Highy Infant mortality affects everyone directly or indirectly - why have you not organised your family to protest? More children died through government neglect than killed by Boko Haram in 2011

An issue has to evoke enough feelings in a sizeable number of people in a geographical location to result in widespread protests! duh
Politics / Re: 2 Protesters Shot Dead By Police In Kano? by norrisman: 1:25pm On Jan 09, 2012
justwise:

Why did Nigerians not organise this type of protest against Boko Haram?

It is either your are being awkward or straight out dumb. There are so many things you can accuse Nigerians of not protesting against. Armed Robbery, poverty, corruption. In fact there are enough things to protest about that protests could be organised each day (366) of this year protesting something different each day.

Like someone earlier explained to you. The fuel subsidy removal is something that affects every single Nigerian hence the large turnout and widespread participation. If you cant get this into your thick skull, I think you know the tallest building in Nigeria. Go there, take a lift to the topmost floor and you know what to do,
