Too many dimwits on Nairaland shouting balance of trade,SA will lose more, Nigeria will lose more blah blah blah. Do you clowns really think trading will stop between the 2 countries over a minor diplomatic spat where the police didnt even manage to gain entrance. The police of a country can be called to a foreign mission when a crime is reported. I have seen the Met called to the Nigerian High Commission in London before. If the South Africans called the police and reported that they were being held against their wishes do you think the SA police are like your NPF that would take no action. Israel that is 10 times more powerful than your shit hole had its embassy invaded and ransacked in Egypt recently and heaven did not fall so much more a banana republic. Even when there are strained diplomatic relations between 2 countries, it is business as usual. Even with sanctions in place, the US remained a consumer of Iraqi, Iranian and Libyan oil! I was in Nigeria a couple of weeks ago and every single official at the airport either begs you for money or tries to make your life difficult so you can pay your way out. On the way the airport, a policeman stops my friend, who although his car papers were up to date, he didnt have them in the car due to the car being broken into recently and all his personal effects removed. The policeman, realising we were on the way to the airport said we must follow him to the mobile court. In any normal country, in the absence of technology for instant verification, you should be allowed to produce the said documents once it can be established that tue car isnt stolen. To cut the long story short, we parted with N3500. At the airport, the first people I met, probably from the airline cos they were ticking some names begged for money. Then another guy who scanned the passport. Thank goodness he didnt beg for money. Then the customs, parted with N2000 for daring to export indomie noodles and cassava flakes (garri lol). At the check in counter, check in lady stylishly asks for money to put me in a window seat WTF . Refused and accepted seat in the middle. There isnt much of a scene at 33000 feet. Then the guys at the entrance to the restricted area of the airport who check . boarding passes begged for money. Final one was the Nigerian Immigration Service who said to me I couldnt travel because my passport couldnt be fully read by their scanner due to staple holes on it made by an embassy I had applied to previously. Now this is the same passport I came into the country with 10 days earlier. Why didnt the slowpoke who scanned it on my arrival inform me of this so I could have arranged for a replacement. Of course he wont, I am more valuable to them on my way out of the country. While waiting in their dingy office, I saw them harrassing several Nigerians and Asians not because of a sense of wanting to do their jobs but because of what they could get. After half an hour in their office, I told the guy asking me what I want to do to bsettle the matter that I gave the customs my last Naira and he said he would accept foreign currency. I told him I had none and brought out my British passport and told him I wished to travel with that. He realised he had been defeated, this time around and mumbled some incoherent ish and gave me back my passport saying make sure u replace it before you come back home. I felt like telling him, I hope not to be back anytime soon! But I kept my mouth shut. With me experiencing all this about 4 hrs, I wouldnt put it past the goons at the high commision in Joburg to demand bribes. They must have at one time or the other worked in some positions internally in Nigeria and like they say old habits die hard. |
fantastic development. Okadas are a menace and have wasted the lives of countless Nigerians. |
@ proudly9ja cheers mate! |

Pennywise:My first case is in Europe where I do these speeds like 2am in the morning or when road conditions permit. It is quite safe the second case was about 13 years ago in my uni days when I didnt know any better. |

* All speedo readings. 110mph (177km/h): Regularly achieve this on a sweet 8 mile stretch of my local A road when I feel like feeling the little power in my 4 cylinder, 184bhp W212 E-Class 180km/h: I was a passenger in my friends '83 E80 Corolla (180km/h was the maximum reading on the speedometer). It was on a downhill section between Ilishan and Shagamu. I remember going to the back to lie down on the back seat hoping they can find my DNA when the inevitable happens. |
I have always had a problem with pentecostals worshiping Jesus Christ, saying stuff like Jesus is Lord and singing all these songs about master Jesus e.t.c. I believe the focus should be on God. I understand he was the messanger but we should focus on God. Finally Jesus is not the same one as God! |

I cant understand why in any real democratic country, editors of a newspaper will be arrested for Libel? If a newspaper writes something false about me (an ordinary citizen) will the editors of that newspaper be arrested? Were the editors arrested in this case because of that ugly bastards connections? If that ugly man feels wronged, he should have asked his lawyers to take appropriate action. In the UK, the press writes all sorts of stories every blessed day, I have never heard of any of their editors or reporters being arrested for libel. |
^^^ Photoshop my friend. Havent you seen the difference between JLO's photoshopped yansh and the real thing. she aint got nothing on Cherokee . Unless it can be verified that the picture was taken by a completely independednt party and not a planted paparazzi then that picture means sweet Zap all!. I myself marveled when I saw what basic photoshop did to me in pictures that i had work done on. Iroyin o to afoju ba. All I will say is that photoshop can make Shabba Ranks look like Denzel ![]() |
I dont usually care for these 'celebrities' but any mother who doesnt know that is a fake bump probably used a surrogate as well. Na wa o. Where thousands will give an eye to carry their own baby in their womb another who possibly can conceive hires someone else to do it for her. Thats so vain! |
Na wa for Nigerians! The ITK (I too know) is bordering on ridiculous. Look at people talking about local content and country of assembly! Just answer the damn question or butt off! According to all these stupid theories, Peugeot 504 is a Nigerian car, Mercedes is South African and Ford is British abi? Nonsense and ingridents! |
OYINBOGOJU:I am sorry to say but you are wrong. If it happened in Naija she'lld be dead!!! |
These are armed robbers and maybe partime kidnappers! Look at that arsenal, enough to start a civil war in a small country like Ghana. |
isnt it so bleeping obvious that in a football match, 2 teams will fight for a goal |
Das Bundesliga! Germany - the three pointed star! |
Dangote is #51 in the world! Fu.c.k me 10 times! |
I have used the online contact form and have given the details of my street which has never been tarred. Today is 10.10.11, If my street is tarred before Fashola the demi-god seeks election as a senator in 2015, I will fly to Lagos and dance naked at Alausa plus I will use my own funds to vigorously support is campaign to be elected to the senate. |
mazaje:Personal experience beats any video. Sometimes I think I am the one that is crazy. how can you ask for video or picture evidence when such sources are easily manipulated. So if I send you a link of a video of someone disappearing, you will start to believe juju exists abi? Have you heard of film trick or photoshop?. If you need video evidence, watch some nollywood movies and if you need pictorial evidence, read www.sunnewsonline.com |
@ OP Are you educated or are you just looking for a laugh? How do you mean pictoral or video evidence? Is this a photoshop/ video effect compettition? |
I have also seen real magic at Bar beach. This one no be dem say and it wasnt an illusion, It was real magic. Things disappearing and all that, No stage effects, nothing. Just me, friends and other spectators a few inches from the magician. I still dont believe in juju though. |
I still dont believe in juju but a former high school friend of mine once tried to hypnotise me. he started his story and because I had some street knowledge and his story sounded familiar to stories I have heard about hypnotists before, I immediately became suspicious. I tried to stand up from my seat but it felt like some very fat person was sitting on my laps and I couldnt get up i fought the 'power' and after about 10 seconds which felt like eternity I managed to break free from this 'spell' and bailed from the bastard! Do not trust anyone you havent seen for longer than five years. people change! |
Ogo-Oluwa Street, Ade-Alu, in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos Is this really part of Lagos? ![]() I thought Lagos was VI, IKoyi and Lekki. no offeinse |
Isleman I understand where you are coming from but i am afraid the most successfull business people are the most ruthless ones. this is a profit making organisation not the Red Crescent.# 1 Sentimental - Not illegal and not breaking any labour laws 2 Although they are not compeled to, they negotiated before end of current agreement but both parties couldnt agree hence the termination at expiry - Not illegal and not breaking any labour laws 3 Sentimental - Not illegal and not breaking any labour laws 4 Sentimental - Not illegal and not breaking any labour laws 5 Sentimental - Not illegal and not breaking any labour laws |
@ Ehie We are not Airtel apologists. I,ll like to believe we are more enlightened and are able to analyse situations without sentiments, Nigeria does not have a mandatory minimum wage and Airtel only needs to pay the call agents N18,000 (Nigerias federal minimum wage which many states have so far refused to pay) to fulfil a kind of moral obligation. It was offering well over that. Where are your protests against the government of your country that refuses to pay a minimum/ living wage to its employees? The mandatory minimum wage in the UK is £6.08 and no employer can be forced to pay above that! |
Nice development. |
Ignorance is a disease. The staff who are out of work were mostly agency staff and as such did not work for Airtel directly nor had contracts with Airtel. They were agency workers who know they are working to a fixed term contract. Airtel is not the first company to use this style of employing labour and they will not be last. It is an acceptable method used worldwide where companies use casual/ temporary labour to hedge themselves against future uncertainties. Airtel asks ABC agency for 100 call centre agents. A contract is negotiated between Airtel and ABC. ABC goes to labour market to look for 100 agents. ABC takes 100 agents on its books and they agree a salary and duration of contract (including possible extensions - not guranteed). Agents start work with Airtel and are paid weekly/ monthly by ABC. Contract comes to an end and Airtel opts not to extend ABC's contract due to unfavourable terms. According to my description above, I cant see what Airtel has done wrong. If anything it provided jobs for people who would otherwise not have had a job to go to. In this case, the agents do not have a leg to stand on. Airtel may be an Indian company but I am sure they did not get where they are today by being silly. They must employ comprtent HR people to understand the labour laws of the countries they operate in. |
