Politics / Re: Nigeria's Consular-General, New York, I Am Not A Religious Bigot by norrisman: 9:40pm On Aug 15, 2012
Why does the consular have to attend a church service for victims of a car crash? My wifes brother was shot dead in the same United States 2 years ago. We obviously didnt expect any government representatives at his interment and none turned up. When the young man (I think his handle was Bawolomo) on Nairaland was murdered last year, was there any government representative at his wake?

This stupid man accussing the consular is a fool. He probably only wanted a high ranking official from the embassy present to make their village association seem like one with friends and connects in high places. They obviously werent mourning at this event as we saw pictures posted on Nairaland of adults consuming generous portions of food right infront of the portraits of the deceased children. What a shame!

Politics / Re: LASTMA Official's Death: Yinka Johnson (The Banker) Released by norrisman: 7:38pm On Aug 14, 2012
This picture proves nothing! not for or against Yinka Johnson or LASTMA. It is very possible that she ran over the deceased after the picture was taken. if you knock someone to the ground with an SUV at slow speed and then run over them, there will be no dents on your vehicle.

Nigeria is really a banana republic if all it takes to acquit a suspect is a still photograph. The question that we should be asking is where was the woman arrested? Was it at the scene where this picture was taken or was it at the estate in Ikota. If she was arrested at the scene then it is obvious LASTMA made up an elaborate story. Why? I do not know.

If she was however arrested in her estate in Ikota, there is more to the story than meets the eye. Why would you leave the scene of an accident where a state employee was killed?
Sports / Re: Olympics: Congo Athlete And Coaches Missing After Games by norrisman: 2:36am On Aug 14, 2012
This is bloody propaganda! Most of these athletes have visas until November so why is the f*$king BNP Eurospork News claiming the athletes have gone missing? These people are adults and do not need to have their movements monitored. I can recall seeing Bradley Wiggins on holiday in France while the Games was still ongoing. This obviously meant he wasnt in the athletes village, why didnt Eurosporks news report him as missing? I also saw a bunch of Korean athletes on a tourist walkabout in central London yesterday, why havent they been reported missing?

All you morons saying Europe is hard, tax will kill you blah blah blah need to STFU! Where in the f&%king world is easy?! Stop taking out your own European/American sojourn frustrations out on the pages of Nairaland!

Did I hit a nerve? Sorry guv'nor. Didnt mean to.

The only reason it is cheaper to live in Nigeria is because of the availability of slave labour.

buzugee: by good job i hope you mean anything over £100,000 per annum. anything less than that and you are struggling in the uk. you may have little disposable income but trust me you are not balling.

shyttt i was earning close to that once. first of all my agency opened up a limited company for me that i work through. then the agency uses an umbrella company that does the income. when the agency and umbrella company done steal my money finish, next is taxman. when you earn that much you are on a higher tax bracket. so tax man will rip you a new azzhole. then next is on these assignments i am all over britain and you pay your own hotel fees. when you are not at home you eat and drink more. etc etc. lets just say 100 grand has a way of turning to 0 grand easily. anything less than that, unless you are sending the money to naija, you aint balling oooooooo.

Bruv, you need to beg your step mum to free you from bondage if you have nothing to show from £100,000 PA! Thats director and CEO money you are talking about guv!

My wife and I have a joint income that is less than that and without appearing to be boasting, we are balling. I drive a brand new Merc, 2 holidays a year (1 European, 1 rest of the world), 2 properties, designer clothes for the 2 kids and us and thousands in premium bonds for the rainy day.

Back in uni days, I was in a friends car and he floored his Corolla (180kph) on a downhill section between Ilishan and Shagamu in Ogun state, I was scared.

I was in another friends car, a BMW 323 Ci and if I remember correctly, he reached 140mph on the A13 in Essex

What is wrong with taking children toa party that ends at 4am? Its not like they were taken out of school to go an frolick or they do this every weekend. It was Sunday morning and the children can have a lie in for the rest of the day! Some plonker even said his/her own mum only made them stay out till 1am. Who da hell told you everyone elses mum has to work with your mums timing. 1am may be acceptable to your mum, 4am to some and 10pm to others.

The most reasonable comment on here is from the person who said there is a high chance the driver fell asleep. I am sure some mumus must have been blaming the Anyenes for taking the whole family on that Dana flight and other mumus would have blamed the residents of the houses the plane crashed into for not living in Victoria Island.

At all. I watched the semi finals and she came second behind Jeter and she ran sub 11 seconds, 10.99 I think. it was infact her personal best (PB) and she let out a loud shriek when she found out. I didnt watch the final and I am suprised she was faster than the Jamaican and American, there was another Nigerian in the semi final but she was representing Norway though. I no blame am.

Pot of Life - Omila! Come to me! The thought of that movie still gives me the creeps.

Then Jimi Odumosu's Evil Encounter. I can never forget a scene where someone runs out of a house to a woman frying akara on the road and a guy appears and disappears repeatedly on the roof of the the house that person ran out from. There was also a scene where someones face was burnt on the cooker

And there was Lynx on Saturdays..... Hauwa!! Ooooo, scary!

Then a last one which I think was called The Dream. I remember a family driving @ night and then had a flat tyre. The dad starts walking and suddenly a vulcanizer appears out of nowhere @ like midnight. The stupid man then requests the services of the vulcanizer (which vulcanizer sits by the roadside @ midnight looking for customers?) Then I remember a group of people eating the intestines of the family in the car.

pato405:

I'm enjoying your argument. but it beats me that you are in support of the cancellation of PSW and their unfriendly inconsistencies with student visas. it has always been about students, students and students. WHY? anyway,I wish we could have an opportunity to debate about this face-to-face because NL pages won't contain my in-depth explanations grin grin. these guys are smart and their targets are mainly African students.it's all a conspiracy. you and I are fully aware that over 60-80% [conservatively] of students who stay behind for PSW are African students and may be Indian students . many Chinese students [who also form the bulk of their revenue] are not usually keen on part-time work while studying or post study work. hence, they can have their cake and eat it by mainly recruiting Chinese students and others who are willing to come in with loads of money and leave immediately rather than those who'll be willing to pay and stay behind for two years. this, they believe will not only cut down on the back-log of students staying behind, it will also help them cut down on their responsibility to afford these students an opportunity for employment particularly in recession times like these when some competent foreign students jostle for limited employment spaces with their own home students. so, the strategy is bring them in annually, let them pay the exorbitant tuition fees and let them leave immediately. that yields lots of money annually and also leaves spaces for employment for their own home-students. although employment rules favours home graduates and EU nationals, there are clauses that support recruitment of non-EU members but this strategy will obviate such clauses and make the coast entirely devoid of foreign students. it's a win-win situation for them.

secondly, other countries you mentioned - US and Canada..e.t.c are not these stringent with students staying behind after studies. UK is one hot-spot because tuition is sometimes more affordable and duration of PG courses are shorter. the PSW even makes it more attractive..alas, now, they have decided to take the patronage of foreign nationals/students for granted and I'm sure it's a decision they'll not only rescind soon [because they've been consistently inconsistent with student visa regulations], they'll regret it. as if those who gain employment from PSW don't pay the 33% tax and contribute more money to their economy.

I am not in support of the cancellation but I am just looking at it objectively. One thing I definitely do not agree with is the moving of the goal posts by the UKBA for people like yourself who came to the country with the belief that they would be able to get some work experience at the end of their studies only to find out later that they cant.
Travel / Re: UK Crackdown On Fake Foreign Students by norrisman: 12:21pm On Jul 08, 2012
pato405:

a critical analysis of your comment shows that you speak for yourself. hence the first person singular ''I'' in bold font. let's speak in this context with respect to the generality of students [particularly the average Nigerian student]. we are all aware of how Nigerian employers hanker about experience, and talking about experience, who wouldn't appreciate the chance to add a UK experience with reputable institutions to their CV's. if you are in the UK for a PG Degree in banking for instance, a 2yr post qualification experience with leading financial institutions [e.g Llyods Tsb, Barclay's, or HSBC] wouldn't be a bad idea. the same goes for other fields. In as much as some students [like you] are ready to come, pick up a certificate and zoom off once their certificates are handed to them [some dont even mind the certificates being mailed to them in their home country], very many others are more than willing to wait and gain knowledge relevant to their qualification. really, it's the whole essence of that international exposure and may likely enhance the chances of getting a good offer when you are back to your home country.

the way employers pant about experience 10yrs ago isn't the same today. 10yrs ago, while they may be willing to waive the experience part of it or be less rigid about it, today, they insist INTRANSIGENTLY about experience. so, why would a student who has been searching for a job and has not been successful because he's always been turned away in the name of 'experience' want to gather so much funds, advance his academics [possibly to enhance employability], chose not to capitalise on that 2 yrs PSW to add the much needed experience? PSW remains a main motivation.

How many countries offer you the chance to get this experience you talk about on a platter of gold i.e. PSW and the likes? Definitely not the US, not even immigrant friendly Canada. You have to work hard for it in places like the US (and now the UK)where you may get lucky to find an employer wishing to sponsor you. If as someone quoted, 300,000 student visas were handed out last year are you saying those 300,000 thousand should have unchecked access to the job market when they graduate without consideration for the settled population, during a recession ?
Travel / Re: UK Crackdown On Fake Foreign Students by norrisman: 11:22am On Jul 08, 2012
pato405:

they have pulled the trigger on themselves! besides increasing maintenance fees, the cancellation of PSW will discourage MANY students. no student is willing to part with over £20,000 [5mil] and be turned away just like that after the programme without the 2yr opportunity/grace to get a job, garner some useful experiences and prolly make some cash. it shows how self-centred the UK is. they are only interested in milking others without giving anything in return. how I wish this rule was in place before I came. grin grin grin grin. I go siddon for house.

It depends on your definition of the word STUDENT. When I came to the UK to study just 10 years ago, there was nothing like PSW, HSMP, Fresh Talent (Scotland), Tier 1 e.t.c, it was just something called SEGS (for engineering graduates) and the employer sponsored work permit but myself and hundreds of thousands of others still came in search of quality education.

If your main reason for coming to the UK is to get a PSW visa or work during term time, then maybe you are not really coming here for the education. Regardless of what the UKBA do, hundreds of thousands of prospective students from all over the world will still flock to their nearest High Commission or Embassy in search of that student visa.

My HTC Desire Z (Android 2.3) is the worst. This one just switches off sometimes and wont turn on unless you remove the battery and re-insert it.

Richtalk: If he says it is doctored, is easy to get the full coversation from the telephone provider. This is not just a tape recording, but a telephone converstion that is stored in the data base of telephone providers Two recordings are stored, one in the caller's data base and the other in the reciever's data base. And if there are two seperate telephone providers, then that makes it even impossible to try and tamper with it, cos both must tally.

Phone calls are not stored o! absolutely false. If your phone is wire tapped then the conversation may be stored but phone calls are not routinely recorded and stored. Maybe you mean call records.

Nigerian lawyers must be one of the most inexperienced in the world. Why are they even issuing statements about a recording that is in the public space? That is not what is going to be used as evidence in court. It could be Baba Sala and Samanja conversating on that recording for all you care. The best he should have done was issue a statement saying he is aware of a recording purpoting to be him, that his lawyers are aware and the appropriate authorities have been notified. Chikena! Why all the hullabaloo about where is the beginning, where is the ending? The lawer even asked for a video of a telephone converstaion
