would you just hold it! It is the practice everywhere in the world that whenever there is VIP movement in the airport, then no other plane can land. Go and ask if another plane can land in the USA if Obama is landing. And this didn't start with GEJ. U don't have to find a way to link him to every imbroglio

It isnt the practise in the UK o! When the PM or even the Queen is arriving or departing, life continues as normal. They usually travel on scheduled BA flights and everything in the airspace and at the airport carries on as normal.

Car Talk / Re: Nigerian Auto Insurers: Do They Ever Pay Up? by norrisman: 7:36am On Jun 22, 2012
manny4life:

1.8% of both cars? Are you serious or just joking? Assuming that the estimated book value of your car is $50,000 and you have a 1.8% annual premium, so you're convincing us that you're paying $900 annually for both cars, BRAND NEW? I mean regardless of the fact that it's brand new, maybe you're an excellent driver, you drive avg miles on he car, etc

Keep in mind that I used $50,000 for both cars, what this means is that, the higher the value of the car, obviously the higher the premium.

5% flat rate is expensive although I accept thats what works best in Naija.

I pay circa £700/ year as premium for a car I bought new and is valued @ circa £35,000. My premiums reduce annually as my no claims bonus increases. Imagine I was asked to pay 5% of the book value of the car, I would have paid about £5000 in my 3 years of ownership! God forbid, e pay me make I dey ride bicycle.

Young, first time drivers do get hit with premiums of up to and sometimes more than £2000. This is in most situations more than the value of the car they are insuring. Its all about risk calculation

scopusng: By AbdulSalam Muhammad, Kano

KANO – Heavy artilery fire and sporadic gunshot around Naibawa and Darmunawa area of Kano over the last couple of hours have forced residents to remain indoors.

Witnesses say the first shot was heard around 3.25am and had since then gained intensity in the affected areas. Vanguard gathered that parents who were initially unaware of the situation in the area have besieged several schools to pick up their children.

The Kona Masalchi area where two students of Federal Government College, Kano were killed on Monday have been cordoned off, while motorists passing the strategic Kano-Zaria federal highways are been diverted.

Banks, public and private businesses are hurriedly closing shop as Military apache helicopter were seen hovering the skyline of the embattled ancient city.

When contacted , JTF spokesman, Lt Ikediche Iweha told Vanguard that the JTF will soon speak to the press on the development.

Details later.

Since I left 10 years ago, I have been back 4 times and the longest I have stayed is 12 days. I enjoy it when I am in the country (suya, old friends, charcolit chicken cheesy) but the security situation always makes me countdown to the when I leave from the day I arrive! The fact is I never go on holiday to Nigeria, I always go for a reason e.g. my wedding, my mums birthday, my friends wedding. I go on holiday to more exotic places.

I think 2 weeks is more than adequate provided you are not trying to do stuff like, the decking of the house you are building, obtain a new passport, collect your transcript from some university in rural Ekiti state e.t.c

Politics / Re: Senior Dana Air Indian Managers Flee Nigeria by norrisman: 12:47pm On Jun 06, 2012
Nigerians are so racist! Indian this, Indian that. You are all feeding on speculation and conjecture. Even your gutter press is helping this feeding frenzy by faning the embers. Why wont the Indian run (thats if he did cos this report is mere speculation) when they have been convicted and waiting to be crucified by the court of public opinion!

First it was a poorly maintained plane that made an emrgency landing last week, then we found out that the registration number of the plane that made the emergency landing is different from the one that crashed.

A toilet washer at DANA Air then called Channels TV claiming the ''plane was spoilt''. WTF does the ''plane was spoilt'' mean? Nigerians are so dumb to believe a woman that can barely speak english and didnt have one technical term in her vocabulary. It is little wonder that many Nigerians are easily drawn into scams like Nospecto cause they will believe any stupid thing.

Then it was the presidents wife that caused the crash becuase the plane was held up for 2 hours. How can a plane which was scheduled to leave Abuja at 1415 (probably left later) on a 1 hr flight and then crashed between 1520 and 1540, have been held in the sky for 2 hours. Basic maths eludes many educated Nigerian illiterates.

OMG! shocked I can't help but conclude that these MacDonald Douglas MD-80 series airplanes have some really big technical issues with them. No wonder the american company is gradually phasing them out.
.

You are either being sentimental (which I can understand) or you cant read and comprehend.

Anyone with half a brain can see that 80% of the accidents listed were caused by human error. Failing to properly defrost, applying reverse thrust where non existent, failure to extend flaps, landing in bad weather and overshooting the runway are not mechanical/ technical issues.

The problem is not travelling morons. You will not be subject to any more disgracefull searches than you currently experienceat foreign airports. The main problem is once BH is labeled a foreign terrorist organisation bu the imperialists, Nigeria loses its sovreignty as the imperialists and zionist governments can blow a whole district in say Ikeja or Ikoyi to smitherings without any comebacks (The imperialist and zionists run the UN and do not recognise the jurisdiction of the ICC) if they suspect one BH member is in the area.

My folks use 200 litres of diesel every week to power their 20 year old 21KVA generator. The generator is switched on overnight and is used for approimately 12 hours on week nights/mornings and is on for approimately 18-20 hours on Saturdays/ Sundays.

That is approimately N32,000 per week! which translates to N1.65 million per year. NEPA self dey bring their own bill make them see something collect but I am not sure how much that is.

Illiterate Nigerians and big man syndrome. If its my staff, I will sack her blah blah blah! In the UK, they have employment tribunals. They have ACAS. Workers are workers and are not slaves. They have rights! The dementia suffering OP will be doing himself a big diservice hiring inhouse cleaners if his modus operandi is summary termination. He is better of sticking with cleaning companies usinf contractors as they dont have a lot of the employment rights enjoyed by permanent workers.

Which one of you perfect people has never made a mistake at work before. For all you know, the lady in question could be one of the nicest people in the world and the 'oga' omly saw her on her worst day.

The downfall of a man/woman is not the end of his/her life. The OP may have actually done the woman a favour. I love my manager who sacked me from my first 'proper' job in the UK. The guy changed the course of my life completely and O will forever be grateful yo him. Thanks Steve!

Isn't that a little bit harsh?

I live in the UK and know what it is like working for morons like this guy. His partner and son/daughter are more reasonable human beings and you can see from their reaction to the situation but he insisted on having his way.

If the lady brought physical harm upon the patient, I will understand the meaures he took but that lady is just a product of her formative enviroment (Nigeri). Dont you see how angry people are in Nigeria? add that to the sadness of working as a cleaner in a cold foreign land. The woman was wrong being rude to a customer and unless she was a repeat offender, did not deserve to be sacked let alone the cleaning company's contract terminated.

I digress but I remember a frustrated market woman in Oshodi giving me adirty slap just because I was walking on the sidewalk meant for human beings and mistakenly knocked down one of her Okin biscuits. I could have kept on walking but I stopped and picked up the biscuit, cleaned it on my jeans and said, sorry madam. As I put the biscuit back on her table, she landed a heavy slap on my face. I was shocked! I was going to go all physical on her until, a conductor who had seen the whole event ensue, said to me 'the mana, file ko ma lon tie, Oshodi la wa' meaning ' buddy, forget about waht just happened, Oshodi is a dangerous place'. I walked away with tears in my eyes but on reflection, I concluded the woman was only a product of her enviroment.

Why are you making it seem you run an NHS hospital. What you have is an old peoples home! The lady was rude...big deal. u really think that will end up on the pages of the Evening Standard? you must be deluded.

You sacked four people because of 1 rude staff and you feel it is justified. You sir, are a lunatic!

What you did is no different from a bank sacking 5 marketers becuase 1 of the five failed to meet his/her monthly target and thus the team failed to meet the combined team target.
Career / Re: Have You Fired Anyone? How Do You Feel Afterwards? I Did & I Don't Feel Anythng by norrisman: 4:45pm On May 14, 2012
What a plonker you are! What the woman did in no way warrants firing her let alone terminating the contract of the cleaning company. The woman asked a valid question as water and human waste are not disposed off in the same manner. Did you expect her to taste the liquid to find out what it is. I am not absolving the woman of blame but you have exhibited the same aggressive and rude Nigerian charateristics shown by the woman.

In any reputable organisation, the woman should have received at most a final written warning and put on retraining instead you abrubtly end a contract thereby punishing at least 5 people for the 'crime' of 1.

I hope you take a long look at yourself while you are sat there in your wheelchair.

Again, you are a complete tosser

I do not mind him being honoured for his footballing achievements but I am completely against the government giving any favourable assistance to famous footballers, musicians e.t.c over disabled soldiers, families of policemen killed in active service, retired teachers e.t.c.
