Just30: Ghana installed capacity is 5300MW, dependable capacity is 4,800mw and consumption is almost 4000mw. Do you get it now?
Ghana per capital consumption is 600kwh whiles Kenya per capital consumption is 170kwh
That is about 1600MW electricity consumption for kenya
I told you there are many variables not just figures,Actual availability of electricity in Ghana rarely exceeds 2400mw . Per capital consumption is also a whole debate.
My old folks house back in the village is a 5 bedroomed massionate...but still has a detached kitchen where cooking happens via firewood ..so your theory on living standards doesn't necessarily apply .
Just30: but this rate of firewood usage is a lot backward and should be discouraged.. It's unsustainable
Only 23% of Kenyans use LPG gas
If you would have provided data from Ghanas census we would have the bases for discussion. Talking of firewood, (predominant )is the keyword...they also use other sources.... In terms of sustainability I still think fire wood is still sustainable for rural economies.
Appisko: Lol argue with facts this place in not kibere market Kenya’s current effective installed (grid connected) electricity capacity is 1,429 MW Kenyan population 53m
total installed capacity for existing plants in Ghana is 4,132 Megawatt (MW)
Ghana population 30m
Electricity consumption is different from installed capacity..
Why is it that 55% of Kenyans use firewood for cooking ? Isn't that so primitive? What happen to gas and electric stoves?
Kenyan rate of urbanization is around 30 percent.... using firewood as thepredominant source of energy for the rest of the population cannot be termed as primitive ..remember they also use other sources of energy .
Just30: Accra houses area culturally responsive to it society and climate. None of our designs can be found anywhere else.
Kumasi courtyard architecture is representative of it culture.
Your architects can't even build a proper house, they've built ugly stuff all over Kenya.... You guys need to come and learn designs in Ghana or even SA or Nigeria so you can stop building ugly stuff
when we talk of culturaly responsive architecture we talk of use of locally available materials and technologies .. not brick and mortar.
Just30: Basically you can never replicate someone culture for it to be pleasing in your context of a society
Even the houses in Accra are not culturally sensitive, they are just replicas of what can be found elsewhere in the world. When we start talking of locally inspired Architecture kenya will still beat you hands down....our Architects have really done good in that area.
samorobo: Pls speak for Kenya.we deal with class and urban modern style.not the ugly cryptic dungeon u have all over runda and Karen. They look depressing for lack of a better word.
i havent seen class in west africa just concrete on top of concrete..
[/img] [s][/s][sup][/sup]r=Just30 post=107932879] tiny low income stuff
And that's what impress you guys ...rows and rows of houses built nesxt to each other.
samorobo: And yes they are equally just as underwhelming as their boss Karen. U forgot to add the renowned ghetto of langata. Don’t get me started on that crappy neighborhood.
This are the kind of Estate projects that impress West Africans..
samorobo: Karen couldn’t impress it is killimani that will impress me.... That ghetto neighborhood with a little above average Nairobians. Pls let’s get serious here.
And that's where middle income guys live , Kilimani, lavington etc ...not wealthy individuals.
