I have been on this for some months now and I still can't figure out what car to buy. Maybe because I have a Accord I am still cruising. I bought the 2009 Honda Accord Naija used, I need a SUV, let me say ground clearance.

My mind is telling to buy 2010 Toyota Highlander because people say it is reliable. I don't want a car that will develop fault on the highway, I don't want to be kidnapped. My job takes me around the southwest/North Central.

I also love the gait of the 2010 Acura MDX but why will the car has a timing belt? Is there a way I can use this Acura without having timing belt issue? Then I don't want a car with many sensors. But I love this MDX sha.

ML350, BMW x5, and Audi q7, RRS, lovely rides for my class, I can maintain any of these cars without shedding tears. But what if it breaks down in the middle of nowhere and bandits appear??

The highlander is a good buy since the V6 2grfe uses timing chain.

Timing belt isnt bad, it can go for as far as 100,000kms, that's roughly 10years all you need to do is change regularly say every 5years and have an extra one around like if you change a new one keep the former if still good just incase of emergency. Always buy OEM new timing belt not tokunbo.

The other cars only a Benz I can say is also common in most regions in naija. Or go for a lexus RX350 or GX series if your money can afford it.

Car gurus in the house, I want to find out if Hyundai sonata and Nissan both 2015 models are good cars for Nigerians.

The sonata with GDI engine is a very troublesome piece of shit, the engine nah big headache though the V6 maybe better.

Nissan Altima on the other hand has good engines but the CVT transmission is what am not too sure about but check complaints about it though, if okay, it is a good buy.

For me, I would rather play safe and buy Honda accord 2015

Engine oil 20w50 or mineral oils in general, 3000kms or 3months which ever comes first.

Transmission oil has a range of around 60,000kms but the ideal thing because of our condition in naija every 2 years is okay to forestall damage

No, the new kia forte started from 2012 so it doesn't have the brainbox defect, it's a bit common among bankers just be weary of the engines they are a bit expensive

Kia cerato is supposed to be same with hyundai Elantra but for some reasons, it isn't as common as Elantra though the 04 to 08 had a brain box defect issue. I would advice you stick with hyundai Elantra instead

It is ideal just ensure you service engine and transmission regularly with recommended fluid

Good vehicle, best engine and affordable too. For better handling buy the 4wd variant but ensure optimum maintenance of the rear axle.

Toyota sienna 1998 to 2003

has a V6 engine mated to a 4speed auto transmission, seats seven passengers and ability to remove the middle and rear seat to accommodate plenty cargo space. Down side is only front windows can wind down hence heat builds up on sunny days at the rear in traffic.
PRICE 900K TO 1.8M naija used depending on condition.

Honda Element 2003 to 2011
Has a 2.4L 4 cylinder K24 engine which is very rugged matted to a 4speed auto from 03 to 07, 5 speed auto 08 to 11 and a 5 speed manual transmission 03 to 11. Available in front wheel drive or 4 wheel drive (rear wheels only kick in when front wheels slip). Has a good cargo space and ability to remove the rear seats for larger space. The boxy shape is a turn off for some but gives it an edge in cargo carrying capacity.
Turn off are the funny rear doors, they can only be opened when the front has opened, no rear glass but a sunroof that can be totally removed but only available for 4wd models.

Tokunbo starts at 3.5m while naija used is 1m yo 1.8m depending on condition

Nissan Serena
Nissan serena is a cargo/people mover can. Has a FWD and AWD variant, the cargo variant is specifically for haulage purpose while the people mover variant can double for both though has less storage capacity than the cargo variant. Comes is a 1 8L and 2.0L engine the 2.0L touted as best engine among the engine line up. I don't know much about the diesel engine.
Naija used starts at 700k upwards.

Toyota Avanza/picnic/avensis verso/yaris verso
All this are cargo oriented vehicles there starting price for naija used is 1.5m, they come in 4cylinder, hood on gas.

That trim is EX-L or touring with the J35 with VCM , VCM don humble owner probably

Is your frontier 4cylinder or 6cylinder?

The KA24, VG30 and VG33 are very solid engines which were fitted to the kingcab b4 nissan switched to frontier.

Except maybe yours was fitted with diesel engine.

What to do - No Custom's documents for Shuttle Buses?


I am here at Ladipo, Lagos - trying to buy a shuttle bus.
The budget for this is between 1.5 to 2.0.

I asked the sellers about Custom's documents - that I need to
verify the custom's paper regarding payment of duties on the bus before
buying any. I do not want to have any problems with Nigerian customs.

I have been just told - by multiple sellers at Ladipo - that they do not give
Custom's papers for shuttle buses; that shuttle buses are imported into the country as spare parts,
and then assembled in Nigeria. That the only documents I will receive are receipts
and change of ownership documents.


I understand that the shuttle buses come as spare parts ...

Questions:
(1) But what if I run into customs guys and they ask about custom's papers?
(2) What if I go to register the shuttle bus to get plate number and other documents and they ask about custom's paper?
(3) What if I drive the shuttle bus from Lagos to Anambra - how am I going to handle Custom's guys?

Guys with experience, please I need your advice. I don't want to be at the mercy of Custom's people.
I am afraid that the shuttle bus risk being impounded, so a big risk of losing 1.5 - 2.0 in the future.

Nobody would give you custom docs for those korope as we call them because they arrive as CKD/spare parts form.

Even when buying tokunbo you just pick a sample pay and they couple it for you a day or 2days depending.
