Honda is a worldwide engine manufacturer from cars to boats to airplanes. Their engines are very good but Toyota cannot be relegated to the background too because their hybrid synergy drive engine is top in the world, everybody's favorite.

Now let the challenge begin
Honda 2.4L k series vs toyota 2.4L 2azfe. Here the honda beats the toyota in reliability, power and overall usage. The honda k series has less complaints than the 2azfe popular competition Honda accord vs toyota camry

Honda J series 3.0L to 3.7L vs toyota Mz/2gr series. Here the J series did well but has some issues in some model like the EOD and DC 3.0L V6 was plagued with some issues but the J series.is still solid starting from the Honda legend of the 1990s to the brutal power coming out from the RL and other powerful sedans.

The 1mzfe 3.0L, 3mzfe 3.3L to the 2grfe 3.5L were very okay but some error in the design of the 2gr seen as oil cooler line collapse without engine shutdown with low oil, the 1mzfe was plagued with oil burn in sienna and.lexus Rx300 though not as pronounced as the 2azfe, the 3.3L was the best but if the timing belt cut in motion

Honda is a very good engine manufacturer but toyota too also try. Respect to the Toyota UZ V8 engines

Personal use and cost of acquiring honda Odyssey is okay but for the love of your sanity, don't buy the EX-L and touring trim with the VCM engines just buy LX or EX.

Commercial use and ruggedity sienna is better though more expensive in price than odyssey

For 4 cylinder go for 2010 and 2011 with the 2.5L i4 engine

For V6 go for any model year 2007 to 2011

For hybrid engine go for any year 2007 to 2011

Mazda tribute is identical to ford escape first generation of the escape is okay but something with the engine entering limp mode around 150k miles until timing is touched or so for the 1st generation, second generation (2006 upwards or so) I can say is okay, from all indications a neighbor used brandnew unit and it was really reliable. They are good on gas whether i4 or V6 cause they are the light weight of your choice.

Acura MDX 2002 to 2006 has a V6 engine option only this generation was plagued by transmission issue less pronounced in 2005 and 06 model but ensure you test the gear selection vigorously or scan b4 u buy the unit.
The 2007 upwards is also a V6 but not too good on fuel economy but has power and drives smoothly, you will enjoy it if you love speed and premium interior finish.

Lexus RX300 is a reliable horse. It is only available in V6 except for the Japanese variant Toyota Harrier with 4 cylinder engine. The engine and transmission are very solid if well maintained you will only have issues with shocks and steering if Ill maintained and driven without recourse and try and buy better steering oil.

Let me explain eg if I have a very close friend who died and I am not aware, while traveling to my home town I saw him at a junction, we greet and hug and he says his coming just want to buy something along the road, then I get to my hometown and they broke the news of his death. Car drives but leak oil alot means engine is good but seals are worn out, replace seals not engine.

Car drives okay but smoking alot means internal damage, mechanic has to open engine and confirm what is damaged there it could be as simple as only rings and as expensive as valves, pistons and co. If cost of ringing is minimal you can try.

If the 150k is okay by you, then by all means buy a tokunbo engine not a reworked engine cause that is penny wise pound foolish.

I observed my car started smoking and shortens oil about a month ago. After servicing I thought it Wil be fine but nay it got even worse. As at last week it went down to consuming a 4litre of oil in three days.

So my mech said engine wears and ringing it could be best option until I'm ready to buy a new engine.

So I approached another (reliable) mechanics for comparative opinion. Then he told me ringing engine is only good for a short time& in essence a waste of time money & resources.

So he advice I better look for money to get another engine.

So he suggested I add oil treatments & STOP SMOKE to the oil that it will reduce d SMOKE & shortage for now. So I did with my last kobo.

Just about 20km from his workshop (on my way home) d car started jerking badly. Called him & he Said I should check fuel filter since fuel pump is new.

Got home & took it to another mech around & d sad news was broken . The STOP SMOKE treatment worsen d engine conditions.

The new mechanics suggest I just have to get another engine.
MY DILEMMA
#I tested it yesterday & d jerking was worse & it begin to STOP/ off while driving.
# tried it this morning & it's not even starting at all. Though engine roll & all lights on.
#I am stranded now as it's this car been putting food on my table
# I make a weekly contributions from it & that's on halt now, don't even know how to go about that ... (though next three weeks is my turn & it solve halve of the engine prob)
# my wife is eight months down & we need to start arranging for baby stuffs & delivery session ( d car is our only source & d weekly contributions was our initial plan for this)

Ring the engine if you can't afford to buy tokunbo, you bleeped up by switching to ammasco oil.

Change pistons when necessary

Buy tokunbo crank and camshaft sensor you will need this 2 after engine has been done.

Let him change the necessary things in the engine and fix the timing chain well, I believe if not stretched no need to buy another.

Change gasket and buy 8L of oil, they shouldn't use black oil to start the car after coupling everything. 4L to first start the car and warm it up then the extra 4L to drain and refill again to guard against impurities in the engine (metal fillings)

Don't faya the engine pass 2k rpm and for the 1st 1k km change oil totally.

The engine should still last more than a year if you use it judiciously and don't buy all those low quality oil, stick to total quartz 5000 20w50 or Mobil xhp 20w50.

That engine is bullet proof

NOTE if the crankshaft and camshaft sensor you bought are bad, engine won't start but the timing chain is the most headache quack mechanics would face, if they don't set it well engine would crank and not start.

My Honda (baby boy) always has it's D4 light blinking almost constantly. I've taken it to gearbox electrician. He's done all he knew to do to gearbox electricals, yet the problem wasn't solved.

It was suggested to me I change/check the brain box. I've done that, didn't solve the problem.

And it's not as if the gearbox's fibre has spoiled, because it was checked too.

So, pls anyone knowledgeable should help a brother. The thing is even making my car guzzle so much fuel (especially when the AC is on).

Note ; I changed the gearbox July 2021.

When gearbox is faulty first thing to check is the fluid, is it gauged or dirty. If dirty drain and replace with OEM fluid.

ZDX is a crossover form of MDX though be like say you will leave the tech pack. This is more beautiful and well though out than crosstour. Not common because it ran from 2009 to 2013 with about 7xxx units produced.

Engine is 3.7L V6 and fuel economy is smiles per gallon. The ZDX is an extreme chick magnet, has a good ground clearance too from my sighting, never drove one b4 sha but seen the interior and its bae.

ZDX would be my choice too if I wanted something rare but parts sha no cheap but not as expensive and scarse like recent infiniti vehicles

I got a Used Toyota RAV4 2005 model in February 2022 and drove it from Lagos to Akwa Ibom. The previous owner used Mobil oil for service. I noticed the oil level dropped after 2 weeks and I also noticed some leakages around the bottom plate. My mechanic fixed the leakage and I decided to change to Genuine Toyota Synthetic Oil 5w30. It's been about a month and the oil level this morning is a little above Low on the dipstick. What could be the reason for this excessive oil consumption? I hear metal noise whenever the car is ascending. My mechanic said the car is doing internal bleeding and we would need to change rings and grind the bearing responsible for the metal noise. Change back to Mobil xhp 20w50 and study oil consumption.

It isn't always good to change from 20w50 to full synthetic 5w30 on engines already used to heavy oil weight.

As for the gringrin noise, it could be oil starvation caused by the current weight you used.

Advice
1. Check exhaust for smoke when car rpm is at 3k with car stationery.

2. When current oil has drained check for tiny metal particles if present wahala yapa inside engine be that.

3. Check for sludge in engine and oil pan as full synthetics have bleach that will flush sludge to the wrong place causing oil starvation.

Also is your engine 1az or 2az?
