Funny how petty romance section could be. Someone opens a totally meaningless thread and people come to fight and defend their wives. Two guys were even arguing amongst themselves who's more handsome. It's not worth it friends. Beauty is an unmerited gift given randomly, and at times stupidly. akinsadeez: @ the bolded.... The bride price payment analogy you have made is also flawed. There are some places where if you want to obtain the services of a sex worker, you pay the madam/owner of the house and not the sex worker directly. Now does that change the act from being prostiution? No. The same thing with the payment of bride price to the parents of d bride and not d bride herself.
Why is it that traditional divorce necessarily entails the return of d bride price? If you pay a prostitute for her services thru out d night and one hour later she says she is no longer interested, you are entitled to collect back your money. At worst or best depending on how u look at it, she deducts an amount commensurate with the one hour service she gave you. When you also marry a lady(which is supposed to be for life) and you guys later decide to part ways, you are also entitled to receive back ur bride price. Again, at best ur in laws would deduct an amount commensurate with what you have used in their daughter.
I might not personally agree with him, nonetheless there is a bit of logic behind his assertion that marriage is a form of legalised prostitution. well I haven't visited brothels before, so I'd yield to your knowledge, but lemme use your logic also. There are SOME places where you don't pay a bride price to marry a wife. Therefore you haven't exactly paid a price for long term sex. But you cannot deny that it is marriage anyway. So if it CAN BE marriage without a bride price, why presumptuously try to force a square marriage peg into a round and definitely smaller prostitution hole? Call marriage glorified buying and selling, and I might see reasons. Prostitution? Long shot. |

mumumugu: you beat me to it. In my next post,i was going to write on "marriage as legal prostitute" "marriage as longterm prostitution" since bride price is the price. that flawed argument is very dead on arrival. A prostitute does so for payment. How is it you say it is the price, when the bride price paid to the father and not the bride? You can try to paint orange and black stripes on your pet frog. The nearest snake would still try to eat it, because your paint hasn't made it a tiger. Glorify prostitution all you wish, it wouldn't change reality. Prostitution is prostitution, dating is dating except in certain moments of intersection, and marriage has no business being in any picture in which prostitution is posing. |

Funny op. So the presence of sex and money makes dating and prostitution similar? Really?
Ok, let's analyse marriage, shall we? You must pay bride price in our part of the world for the lady you love, seal it with a ring, and sex is expected.
Mathematically... Marriage ∝ love + sex + money + ring But from your equations, prostitution = sex + money And dating = love + sex + money + c = love + prostitution + c Where c is a constant which you alone understand (no ellipses in mathematical equations)
Therefore, Marriage = dating + ring = love + prostitution +ring + c
That's how you were born. No? |

missjenna: Its supposed to be, To every successful man, there is always a woman "Beside" him
When you use the word "behind", you are in a way demoting and disregarding the huge influence of the woman
Let me give you an example. Steve Jobs is widely recognized as the sole founder of Apple, but he didn't found it alone. He alongside his friend, Steve Wozniak, co-founded Apple.
When you ask people, they will say Steve Wozniak was the brain "Behind" Apple. But I tell you one thing. History will only remember the great Steve Jobs
I just used this illustration to buttress my point Thanks *sigh* When someone says "Mr A is the one behind all the attacks," what does it mean? Compare your answer with your 'point'. |

REGRET'S PATH Once upon a gloomy day When dark clouds had their say, In an empty shed, on a stack of hay Sat a child who had lost her way.
"Oh dear, what shall I do? I missed the path where mangoes grew." Then she hungered anew But not for a taste of mama's stew
"Oh that I knew where to go. If I really did know, I'd get there, fast or slow, And help papa carry his hoe.
He would pat me on my head, And pluck me mangoes nearly red, And tell me stories before bed Of men once alive, now dead."
But the lightning flashed, And the thunder crashed, Then the clouds, shamefully unabashed, Released droplets it had stashed.
Like her tears, puddles formed freely flowed, And on them dead leaves rowed. In the distance, a familiar light glowed, But her gaze had left the road.
'Don't go alone to papa's farm, Stay obedient and out of harm' Mama had said, peeling yam. Now it sounded, her mind's alarm.
"Aliya!" It called again, Up she looked, and forgot her pain. She ran to papa's arms like one insane, And over his shoulders she watched the rain.
So you see what disobedience could mean, Comfort or safety tossed in the bin. But sometimes when we are truly sorry within, Love would find a way to win. 8 Likes 4 Shares |

Nneka123: I totally understand your point of view and where you are
coming from with your point. You're actually talking about the women who just decided that they wanna show their booobs or asss on social media like Instagram. For example, if a girl was suppose to put a picture of not showing her breasts or ass, just a simple picture, she will not get as much likes, as she will, if she had a picture of her displaying her boobs. I'm not against you trying to prove this point that women are the cause of them being objectify, but first of all it's not in any way their fault! it's society. The idea that sex sell is a hallucinating idea, A false hope in some sense because when we try to sell sex, we try to sell subjectivity and objectivity, where men act as subjects and women acts as objects. And objects can never be empowered. So, even those models who are paid, they are not empowered, and they are not choosing it they are being forced to do it, As because of the existing male chauvinist society, where women are for being used for sex, to do work at home, to be a baby doll, etc.And that's what mainstream media tries to project and tries to sell women in this way. In all those music videos, you will realize that women are unnecessarily asked to be dancing and shaking their ass! while men are in full clothes. most of the male singers are comfortable in clothes while female singers are overly sexualized and hyper sexualized to sell that music or video. It's not the fault of those women but it is the fault of those directors trying to promote those videos.
Anyways! your point wasn't bad. i understand where you were coming from. now this here is what I dislike the most about the average woman - she's always the victim. She never does something wrong because she's dishonest or greedy. No. It's because men (or the society men created) made them do it. In fact the ladies are always forced, and they cannot walk away from the money because no woman is supposed to walk away from the money. So what of the ladies who have stood different over the years? The leaders, nobel laureates, writers, etc. Why aren't they twerking off by force on some music video? Thank goodness I know some ladies with brains. It's just a shame that the rest of you are in the majority. Seriously, Nneka123, you don't sound like someone who knows she's ALLOWED to use her brain. Goodnews is, you don't need permission from men. |

It's only in cases of embezzlement that theft intersects corruption. Besides that, theft is theft and corruption is corruption. Even in such a case, one shouldn't escape with the lighter punishment. I agree with the president.
Anyone who says every act of corruption is an act of stealing [sic] has no idea what we are talking about. |

*sigh*
The immature do not know the difference between wisdom and cowardice, and the self-centred never realise that their actions could affect others including their parents.
One of the worst cases maybe, is the mentally deficient who presumes his mother and himself represent every parent out there.
Nice thing parenthood has helped him see things more clearly.
Some parents (who have risen above 'parental cowardice') have let their children do as they wish, and as a result the society have more daredevils (criminals and delinquents) than it can handle. Less fortunate herioc parents have lived to bury their own kids. |

Can't believe a professor of law would say "Ultimately, every act of corruption is an act of stealing." That statement is too silly to even give any serious consideration.
If you are talking morality, then you can argue that they are both the same, since they are both acts of dishonesty that cause suffering to the victim(s), whether directly or indirectly. However that argument is unnecessary since the president didn't say one is wrong and the other right.
It's only in cases of embezzlement that theft intersects corruption. Besides that, theft is theft and corruption is corruption. Even in such a case, one shouldn't escape with the lighter punishment. I agree with the president.
You shouldn't argue against a logical statement just because you don't like the person who said it. Argue against it because you understand his position and still can prove he's wrong. Anyone who says every act of corruption is an act of stealing [sic] has no idea what we are talking about. |

dealslip: Let whoever wins take his rightful position in Aso Rock. Whatever be the case do not help to heat up the polity. This politicians we always clamour for dont have our interest at heart. When the violence start, they and their children will flee to fortification while the military men will be wasting the lives of Nigerians. Recall the Nigerian civil war, the principal actors lived to ripe age. Gowon is almost 80 and Ojukwu died at the ripe age of 78 leaving inheritance for his children but do not forget that 3 million people lost their lives on both sides. Their death was in vain as the politicians reconcilled and many are now great friends and they are still ruling us. Let us be wise, vote for your candidate and move on. We have never voted anyone that will please us for even a term, before the tenure ends we will start screaming and shouting for another. Politicians are not your messiah. We are the ones to drop our selfishness, materialism, hatred, insensitivity and wickedness towards another. Our division is greatly helping their own agenda. As long as we are divided we will always be at the loosing end. What they owe us is infrastructures, security and proper resource control. It is not theirs to help us define our heritage, an Hausa man is not better than all the other 250 tribes and vice versa. We are first human before we recognise any tribe or nation what we owe each other is love. We are not different in anyway except our mindset. It is not theirs to help us discover religion, it is supposed to be between us and our God. Religion is a personal thing, as long as it works for us. God is the judge not us or them. Please keep yourselves safe, you too can rule one day. well said. You have a good head on your shoulders. |
