CrimeRe: Oba Beats Wife In Public! by OAM4J(mod): 10:30pm On Jun 01, 2010
THE FULL STORY

BUT for the quick intervention of men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Ondo State Police Command, the Deji of Akure, Oba Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina, would have been lynched by irate residents of Akure when he engaged in a public brawl with one of his wives, Bolanle, on Sunday evening.
The first class monarch was however stripped, with his royal robes torn to shreds, his cap removed and his pathfinder Sports Utility Van (SUV) totally destroyed by the mob who attacked him for allegedly desecrating the throne and bringing the customs of the people to ridicule before he could be ferried away to his palace under heavy police guard.
Bolanle whose skin started peeling and oozing blood after Oba Adesina allegedly poured ashes on her, an action that signified infliction of leprosy in Akure tradition, is lying critically ill at the Intensive Care Unit of the Akure Specialist Hospital. She told The Guardian yesterday of her intention to sue the monarch for assault.
Oba Adesina, who got protection from the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko recently when the Akure community, through the town’s council of kingmakers declared him unfit for the stool because of allegations of extortion, public fighting, maintenance of a band of dreaded hoodlums and drug addiction and subsequently dethroned him, was molested by hundreds of residents who poured invectives on him.
When contacted on phone yesterday, Oba Adesina told The Guardian that he had nothing to say on the occurrence and that “the press can write whatever you guys want to write, I don’t give a damn.”
It was gathered that the monarch, in the company of his newest wife, one Remi Abiola, had gone to the 141, Hospital Road, Akure residence of Bolanle who is one of his earlier wives, with the intention of beating the latter for allegedly abandoning the palace.
Olori Bolanle, who had three children for the monarch, was said to have left the palace when the monarch allegedly abandoned her and the kids for his latest wife who was conferred with the traditional title of “Eyesorun” or head of the queens against the custom of Akure which stipulates that the title be conferred on the oldest wife in the palace.
Eye-witness accounts have it that the monarch and Abiola arrived at Bolanle’s residence around 6.00 p.m. in company of a palace chief and announced that their mission was to burn the building “for harbouring an enemy of the king.” But they were resisted by residents of the area who demanded to know the offence that could warrant such barbaric judgment.
A middle-aged woman, who claimed to be Bolanle’s friend on a visit from Lagos, said at that point, “the Olori who had ran into hiding on sighting Kabiyesi’s two-vehicle convoy, came out and asked what her offence was but was immediately attacked by the new wife who hit her on the head with a big plank she was clutching”.
While craving anonymity “because I don’t want to be killed”, Bolanle’s friend further disclosed that “the chief, in a most barbaric way, snapped the head of a cock from its body, and started pouring blood on the threshold of the building while Kabiyesi requested for the ashes which he poured on Olori Bolanle while muttering unintelligible words. Immediately her skin started to peel and blood was oozing out.”
The witness who said she is an Ekiti indigene but resident in Lagos added that although she was scared of the unusual rituals, “I was incensed by the sheer impunity of the injustice and I didn’t know where I got the courage to ask the monarch to explain his action while Bolanle gathered herself and slapped the Kabiyesi several times, asking him to kill her”.
The 45-year-old Adesina, a man of modest educational background who was brought from Europe to occupy the throne five years ago, removed his flowing agbada gown and at the same time made calls on his mobile phone to a notorious hoodlum in town “to come with the boys”.
At that point, the irate crowd, which had blocked the entire stretch of the busy Hospital Road, rose in defence of the assaulted Bolanle and descended on the monarch, removed both his traditional neck and hand beads, the inner clothing and the cap, even while he made attempts to escape the mob.
His pathfinder jeep was however prevented from escaping from the scene by one of Bolanle’s younger brothers, who blocked the road with a Nissan Exterra belonging to the Olori while the youths in the crowd beat the monarch with sticks and cudgels. Those who cannot move near the scene threw stones at Oba Adesina.
With shouts of “ole, ole”, meaning thief, the crowd vandalized the monarch’s car, smashing the windscreens while some old women, who bared their bosoms as a sign of rejecting his authority, provided salt which they poured in the radiator of the vehicle which bore the title “Deji of Akure” on its number plate, to demobilize it.
Another car, a Toyota Starlet with registration number AL 963 AKR, which conveyed two unidentified persons who brought the ashes that was poured on the Olori, was totally destroyed and the occupants escaped with injuries.
The situation was however saved with the arrival of a detachment of armed policemen, led by the Officer in Charge (OC) SARS, John Mark. The security agents dispersed the crowd with tear gas and threw a security cordon around Oba Adesina, who had started bleeding from the nose. The monarch was later freighted away in a police Hilux van with registration number PF 4598.

The history of Ikorodu is as rich as the enviable track record of its sons and daughters who have not only excelled in their chosen careers, but have also left their footprints on virtually all the strata of our national history for posterity to see. It is the history of a people whose ancestors, according to available history, descended from the Remo stock of Yoruba tribe who came settle on a plateau and named it Ikorodu, a shortened word from-Oko Odu-which literally means Odu farm. Odu now in extinct vegetables specie used for cloth dying, grew luxuriantly on this plateau, hence the early settlers for want of a better name, found it convenient to name their new found settlement after this abundant vegetable.

With time, Okorodu changed to Ikorodu. The fact of the history seems to tilt in favour of Oga as the founder of Ikorodu. This by extension, confirms the Remo link in the origin of Ikorodu. The males among the early settlers in Ikorodu had facial tribal marks found among the Remo. The late Oba Adenaike Alagbe had such tribal marks.

The new settlement in the heart of a massive forest was first used by the sons of Akarigbo, Koyelu of Orile Offin Shagamu-Oga, Lasuwon, Rademo, Anoko, Osonusi (alias Ogbonyari) Igimisoje, Otutubiosun, Oladepo and Seku made. The extended area now known as Ikorodu was used by these sons of Akarigbo of Ijebu Remo for hunting and farming. As to the time of founding of the first settlement, we found it convenient to repeat ‘Igbogbo E Ko Do, KI Pakodo I do, KI Koodu I do.’

Ikorodu Oga; We the citizens of Ikorodu Town of Lagos State of Nigeria, in UK & Ireland have found a common ground for embracing ourselves and appreciate the value of a concerted effort towards the co-ordination of social-cultural activities geared towards the development of our people and town.

Kobojunkie:
That Ikorodus eat Ikokore does not mean they are Ijebus. What you hear in Ikorodu is not really same as the common yoruba dialect. Oga does not speak Ijebu. Ikorodu definitely might have some Ijebus in it(well duh) but Ikorodu is not Ijebu.
I didnt say they just eat ikokore (of course anybody can eat it) I said ikokore is their traditional food. Did you ever heard Oga speaking or you have some of his recorded speech?

And have you really ever heard the Awori's dialect (Because I lived among them in Isolo/Okota) it's nothing near what Ikorodu people speak - Fact

Kobojunkie:
Uumm . . .  That is not what it says. Read it again. The Aworis are not Ijebus. Most of Lagos, Ikorodu included is awori and not Ijebu
Yes dialects differ from one region of Ijebu to the other but yet none the same with what you have in Ikorodu.
Aworishuh? huh You really dont know Lagos. Aworis bother never reach majidun not to talk of Ikorodu. (Lagos consist of 4 major groups, The Eko people cool, the Awori, the Egun and Ijebus)

Forget the common Yoruba dialect you find on the streets of Ikorodu, the real Ikorodu (Awon omo Oga) speak Ijebu dialect (one of my ex is from Ikorodu) and their traditional food is Ikokore same with other Ijebus.

I was born, bread and buttered in Lagos and my mum is Ijebu. cool

Kobojunkie:
I know this to be the case because I spent quite a significant portion of my life in the one, and spent some years schooling in the other- long enough to understand there are differences between Ijebu folks(both those who live in Ijebu itself and those who live in Ikorodu) and the Ikorodu ijinles in Ikorodu.

Here is a piece on the history of the town
http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/282631/Ikorodu
Even the dialect is quite different.
Kobo, Ikorodus are Ijebus, likewise some part of Epe in Lagos. Even the link you posted does not suggest otherwise.

The Ijebu dialect differs from one region of Ijebu to another.

@topic.
I have nothing to say cos i know such merger will not happen in this present Nigeria.

Reps cut Bankole's quarterly allowance to N100m
*Nafada N80m

*Akogun N60m, principal officers N50m

Members of the House of Representatives yesterday kicked against the N140 million quarterly allowances for Speaker Dimeji Bankole and N100 million for his deputy, Usman Nafada.

They, however, reduced the allowances to N100 million and N80 million respectively.

In the new structure drawn by an ad-hoc committee, Tunde Akogun, the House Leader’s allowance, which was N40 million, was raised to N60 million per quarter while other principal officers would go home with N50 million each.

Members therefore felt that since the allowances of principal officers could be increased, their own allowances should be jacked up to N42 million as against the previous allowances of N27 million statutory payment as stipulated by the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocations Commission.

http://money.howstuffworks.com/question449.htm

As president, Bush makes $400,000 and gets additional money in various expense accounts. Cheney makes $208,100 and also has expense accounts. In September 1999, President Clinton signed legislation that increased the presidential salary to $400,000, effective January 2001. The Constitution prohibits pay raises for sitting presidents. This presidential pay raise was the first since 1969, when the president's salary was raised from $100,000 to $200,000. Adjusted for inflation, $200,000 in 1969 would be worth $930,232 today. On top of the salary and expense accounts, both the U.S. president and vice president are given free housing with plenty of amenities. The White House has 132 rooms, 32 bathrooms, a movie theater, bowling alley, billiards room, tennis court, jogging track and putting greens. Bush also has use of Camp David, the presidential retreat. Cheney lives in Number One Observatory Circle, which has been the official vice presidential residence since 1974.
OP

Your topic and post is misleading. You should compare a senator/Rep basic salary with US president basic salary or add up all the allowances and compare.

You quoted US president basic salary (less his allowances) and you compared it with  house of rep quarterly allowances. that is wrong.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

The Executive Board of Nairaland have resolved to appoint Mama-gee as a Super-Duper-Moderator to oversee all posters and Moderators.

With this new position, Mana-gee has the power to ban and un-ban moderators and common posters.

In her acceptance speech, she thanked the owner and the executive board of nairanland for the honour giving to her and promise to make good use of this office.

She also promise to enforce discipline among posters and moderators.

In demonstration of her new powers and going by her words, mama gee has announced the immediate-indefinite ban of Nellaluv.

Also Mukina2 has been suspended as a super moderator until further notice. According to her this is to serve as a warning to other trouble makers in Nairaland

as she is presently considering the list of over 1500 members of NL due for banning.

Mamagee has also introduce registration fee for all active posters. Anyone who wishes to continue as a poster must register with N10,000 or $100 while those

interested in becoming Moderator must apply with N50,000 or $400. This is to ensure that this forum do not accommodate underage/jobless people and to ensure

that enough fund is generated for the smooth running of the office of the  Super Duper Moderator.

You are here by warned not to comply at your own risk. This Thread is hereby officially closed, any further posting on this thread will warrant immediate ban.  cool grin

I agree with the OP fight against selective Justice and I also agree with the bold. The challenge is to get this government to do the bold.
