Still waiting for an explanation as to why Nigeria had to buy those toys for $50million a piece. |
Wiseandtrue: ejibaba:@bolded, funny how everyone seems to miss a very vital and obvious point which answers all the questions. Nigeria imports all its fuel with dollars; if imported PMS cost N142/litre in 2014 when the dollar was N160, do you still expect the same imported PMS to cost the same N142 when the dollar now sells for N360? When comparing landing costs/pump-price/subsidy value between 2014 and 2018, don't forget to factor in the fact that the Naira has been devalued by over 100% between the 2 periods being compared. With oil prices hitting $75 this week, landing cost should currently be around ~N190-N200/litre and subsidy payments will continue to increase. This vicious subsidy cycle will continue until Nigeria grows up and starts refining its own fuel. I expected the current government to take ambitious loans to scramble modular refineries as a permanent solution, but the lazy government preferred the option of waiting for Dangote to complete his refinery. Unfortunately, with Dangote refinery is completed, whilst it may force Nigeria to stop importation, I don't foresee Aliko selling for anything less than N200/litre. http://www.punchng.com/rising-oil-price-pushes-petrol-landing-cost-higher-nnpc-to-spend-more-on-subsidy/ Just to clarify, NO! this isn't a defense of anybody or government, it's just a clarification of the common confusion I keep reading online regarding people asking why Nigeria should still be paying subsidies even though PMS now sells for N145. |
erico2k2: erico2k2:Wonderful! The matter is even worse than I thought; how come I'm the only one witnessing this funny dude's inverted logic? ![]() @erico2k2, Okay sorry Oga, NNPC imports fuel at over N300/litre but lies to Nigerians that it buys it for N171. The idea is for the government guys to steal the -N129 deficit. You win abeg! Bye! |
After reading the title, I just stepped in here to behold the verbal destruction PMB will get ![]() |
Thegeneralqueen:The only person who 100% doesnt care about what the world thinks about them is a mad person on the streets. Of course if you bother too much about the opinions of everyone, you will be overwhelmed, but that notwithstanding, every sane human MUST listen to and consider the opinions of others. |
erico2k2:If the idea is to make money by falsely inflating the quantity supplied, so why bother deflating the price by up to 40%? Isnt that already cancelling the marginal profit they try to steal by inflating the quantity supplied? If I have an intention to corruptly steal money, why then would I buy a commodity N300 and tell people I bought it for N180?... Shouldnt it be the other way around?... Quite amusing that you still cant see your flawed argument. I suggest you go take a deep nap ![]() |
erico2k2:Good stuff! You are beginning to help me answer your own questions. Keep the answers coming, keep searching within and answering yourself. Very soon you will also realise your upside-down logic all by yourself. At least youve now acknowledged that there are certain internal factors which could make a commodity sell for different prices in different countries. So a simple question for you, if you agree there's a minimum price regulatory tax which forces B&H cigarette packs to sell for £10 in the UK, do you think the same tax would be imposed on the packs sold outside the UK?... If not, why did you bring up the comparison of PMS prive in UK vs Nigeria in the first place? |
enlady:So in essence, are you saying all vigilantes bearing pump action and other types of non-automatic weapons around the country are illegal? Im not understanding your point..Vigilantes are vigilantes and police is police; why are you mixing the two? |
erico2k2:That petrol sells for £1.18 in UK, it doesnt mean it has to sell for over N500 in Nigeria. A pack of benson and hedged cigarrette sells for over £10 (~N5000) in the UK, but the same brand sells for less than N500 in Nigeria. So Oga please leave this your repeated inconsequential question about how much petrol sells for around the world. Meanwhile I'm still waiting for you to explain your logic about NNPC buying petrol at over N300 and telling Nigerians they bought it for N180. You termed it "over-inflation". I'm not doubting that the govt is trying to swindle Nigerians somehow, and neither am I doubting that you may have a point. But I'm just struggling to understand your point as it makes no logical sense. A boss sends his servant on an errand to go buy a commodity. The servant returns and tells his boss he bought it for N180. You claimed the servant actually bought it for over N300 but is lying in order to swindle his boss. Can you be kind enough to explain the logic in your allegation? |
erico2k2:The NNPC is saying the landing cost of PMS is about N180, you consistently claim it is a lie, that the true cost must be over N300; and then you turn around to say NNPC is OVER-INFLATING because it wants to steal?... Where is the logic in this? Lol... guy maybe you need to go back to bed, and then when you wake up refreshed, try and re-examine the logic of your argument again. ![]() |
enlady:Vigilantes may not be allowed to wield automatic assault rifles like AK47s, but there's no law stopping the state government (with the backing of the state HOA) from setting up and arming state vigilantes with guns line pump action rifles. If they are arrested and the governor pays a visit to the station, not even the IG can prevent the governor from releasing his boys legally. Let's forget all these excuses and ostrish play by the governor, even though we practice a strange federal system, the fact is that we still have a federal system and the governor wields enormous powers. |
ajebuter:And so what?... Do yourself some good and wake up from this your endless 2015 Jonathanian delusion. Between 2010 and 2015, thousands were also killed by the very same herdsmen in the middle belt but it was never reported at the time because a bigger overshadowing menace (BH) then was killing tens of thousands. The govt at that time was incompetent in it's security (and other) responsibilities and so it was booted out. Oh yes, I have absolutely no regret for booting out the old scumbags. Fastforward to 2015, new set of guys guys take over and have once again proven to be another set of incompetent scumbags, they will also be booted out but that is only assured if people like yourself wake up and stop dwelling in this your endless Jonathanian wailing. |
GrammarNazi1:Huh?... How can a self acclaimed grammarian be correcting a correct statement with a wrong one? Naija una too much.. ![]() |
erico2k2:Bro you are wrong! I dont know the exact figure as at today, but PMS landing cost in Nigeria is currently less than N200; if there's any reason the NNPC/PPPRA would want to lie about landing cost, they would more likely be inflating the figure to steal money, not the other way around. |
What exactly is stopping the Benue state government from setting up a state-wide armed vigilante group to flush out and expel every Fulani from Benue? How can massacres like this keep happening unhindered every other day without a single resistance?... not from the police, not from the military, not from civil defence and not from vigilantes?... not even a single one of the perpetrators arrested or killed, like absolutely zero resisitance?... Even in Taraba, at least we hear of attacks and repisals, but in Benue, it just seems the Benue people are just inanimate objects. This situation lacks logic. |
erico2k2:You haven't still clarified your point.. So because pms in the Uk is £1.18, you have simply done a conversion and assumed landing cost of pms in Nigeria has to be over N300? |
erico2k2:Oga, cut the riddles and simply explain your point; the country where it comes from, how does that matter?... How did you arrive at your over N300 landing cost conclusion?... If that were the case, how come PMS still sells for N145?... That woukd mean a subsidy of at least N155 per litre. |
erico2k2:There's no way it can be up to N300, else subsidy would have been up to N3trillion by now. |
erico2k2:You mean currently?.. |
Issakendrick:This is very standard practice in Warri and environs; a very disgusting and retrogressive way of life that has succeeded over the years in destroying the business climate in Warri and chased away all investors. Just imagine a company as large a Shell packing up and relocating to PH and Lagos? I still shake my head at the foolishness of people who still ignorantly defend the miscreant youths perpetrating these acts, mostly excusing their actions by arguing that "the youths are restiveness because govt did not provide |
Miyetti Allah guys have never denied it that their members are responsible; instead whenever the issue is raised, they simply give dirty excuses about how stolen/murdered cows or anti-grazing law or retaliatory attacks is the reason behind the mayhem. Enough of these excuses being made for these guys; those responsible for the massacres are Fulanis from Nigeria and it will take the Fulanis themselves to stop the crisis before it turns to a full blown civil war by Nigerians against Fulanis. |
Cromcruach91:Sadly, if oil goes up to $150, there will be no succor because petrol landing price will go up to N300 and that means more subsidy. If the government was serious about solving this subsidy crisis without inflicting pains on Nigerians, a dedicated loan should have been taken to speedily set up several modular refineries (just at the site of existing refineries). After completion, the refineries should be handed over/concessioned to private establishments to run them efficiently and profitably and pay royalties to government just like the NLNG. With that arrangement, the loans could even be paid off in a couple of years and Nigeria would kiss the vicious subsidy cycle goodbye. |
Fuel scarcity loading! A nation that cant refine its own fuel after 60 years, it also wants cheap fuel but doesnt want to pay subsidies. Such an interesting situation. |
Suplexx:Before we even go to external reserves, let's concentrate on the FG's lion (52%) share of the same ECA; who do we blame for vaporizing that chunk too?... Maybe Amaechi must have also charmed Oga Jona. Meanwhile isnt it suspicious that at the time, PDP had up to 28 of the 36 governors, but whenever the story is preached, they only just carefully mention names of a bunch of APC governors. |
TonyeBarcanista:I can bet my last dime that the only governor out of the pack of 36 who supported saving in the ECA was Peter Obi. Since this issue arose, there's been one lame attempt after another to skew the narrative along political lines. NOI in her write-up mentioned "MOST GOVERNORS", but when given an opportunity to mention names, they always conveniently just mention 2 or 3 APC governors. You are surprised that Akpabio was involved? ... if up to 28 of the 36 governors at the time were PDP, and the narrator said "MOST GOVERNORS", then yoir guess is as good as mine. |
vizkiz:Misplaced priority?... You were just told he's a blogger, but you obviously still dont get the import of an original post like which has already driven some traffic to his blog this morning... Meanwhile, as irrelevant as this post might be, a fact is that even after seeing its irrelevance right frim the title, you still clicked on it and so did I. The joke is actually on you and all others commenting on this thread about how 'irrelevant' the thread is. ![]() |
Deltatoto:Dino is a big shot, a noise maker and an influential person. If he's taken to the station, he would shake the place and there's nothing they can do to him. Everybody knows the problems he's facing are all due to his cat and mouse game with Yahaya, there's hardly anything they can do to him in terms of conviction, he isnt a common man. |
Deltatoto:What exactly is the humiliation in inviting a person or driving a person to the station?... How on earth does anyone fall for the cheap theatrics by Dino?.... Nobody is humiliating Dino, Dino is the one humiliating himself! 1. Firstly, when he was invited a month ago by the police, as a 'big man', he could have simply honoured that invitation and this whole case would have been crushed even before it started. 2. If Dino had simply followed the police to their station yesterday in an orderly fashion, no policeman would have dared come close to him or attempt to humiliate him. Even as things are currently, the police did not ask Dino to jump off a moving vehicle, neither did they ask him to sit on the floor and start taking pictures for bloggers to see, Dino did all that by himself intentionlly as a protest to buy sympathy from unsuspecting Nigerians like yourself. I wouldnt even want to talk of the hospitalization or the fake unconsciousness of today; just after he was seen in videos yesterday vibrating about implicating the police... Like seriously, who falls for all that ICU ruse? For the record, I have nothing against Dino, he's actually my favourite Senator as I see him as the most active in the entire chambers. But the drama and distraction is now too much, he should go and settle hos personal beef with Yahaya. |
Like seriously, why is it so difficult or impossible to expel ALL Fulanis from Benue state? ![]() |
I wonder why these modular refineries have to take so long to complete. These licenses were given since 2015 and even Dangote's which is a monster is almost complete. |
emerged01:Lol.. you're absolutely right, a lot of Nigerians just derive a certain strain of pleasure from criticising everything. You do, they complain; you no do, they still complain. I've been hearing too many people preach about collecting PVC. But ask these cursing and criticising folks who they intend to vote in 2019 and they all instantly go dumb. |
SalamRushdie:First of all, Dino's travails are because of his personal fight with his governor Yahaya; Buhari doesnt even know if a person called Dino exists so I wonder why everyone keeps calling out the president on this. Then secondly, Dino is just being a drama king trying to escalate the nonsense just to gain support and sympathy from unsuspecting Nigerians like yourself. Firstly, if he had simply honoured the invitations he got from the police, this issue would have since been crushed. And then, about what happened yesterday, those SARS guys didnt ask him to jump out of the moving vehicle, and neither did they ask him to sit on the floor. He's doing all that for publicity. |
