laudate:And why have you never considered that it could be proper planning?... Which leader likes to just sit down and watch as his people suffer even when there's money in the account? Do you really think OBJ not awarding contracts randomly (even though the funds were piling up in the reserves), do you honestly think that is an act of a man who didn't know where he was going to? So how do you compare that with the one who has finally spent al the money yet we still remain where we are?... Think bro.. try and see the bigger picture. Don't try to view this only through the lense of politics; this is common sense. |
laudate:Just like I said, it is only typical for people not to see underlying efforts, most people are totally incapable of seeing or appreciating the big picture. The moneys spent by Yaradua and GEJ for those projects you laud them for, a chunk of those moneys were saved by OBJ. OBJ met a foreign reserve of $5billion dollars when he assumed office but he grew that amount to over forty something billion dollars by the time he left office. OBJ also created the ECA account and grew it from zero to over $20 billion dollars by the time he left office. OBJ also wiped our external debts from over thirty something billion dollars to less than 5 billion. The question I ask is, what did other administrations do apart from reducing these savings to zero with next to nothing to show for it?... Yet we celebrate them and claim OBJ was a useless baboon. No doubt that OBJ was a corrupt man too, but I find it rather repulsive that he is being adjudged as having achieved absolutely 'nothing' for Nigeria. |
chuna1985:Okay I am not from the SE again... I hope that make your shitty brain feel better... okoko |
Excellentmind:Bro, first of all, i am from the south east. The only difference between both of us however is that I have chosen to be objective in my approach in national issues. Your blabbing about south westerners and Cameroon and ICJ etc is more than enough evidence to confirm your lack of objectivity. You do not deserve a further response.. Good day! |
chuna1985:I am from the SE you slowpoke |
Reference:http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fg-commences-passenger-service-on-warri-ajaokuta-railway-soon/75871/ The work commenced in the IBB days and was abandoned without any progress. The 276km ajaokuta -warri rail project was revived under OBJ as part of OBJ's rail modernisation project and a large chunk of the line (over 90%) was built by julius berger before it was abandoned again. As part of the modernisation project, the abuja to kano standard rail project was also awarded by OBJ but it was cancelled when Yaradua took over due to the fraud in the contract award. After Yaradua's death, GEJ revived the project again and completed the remaining 22km of the ajaukuta line connecting it to warri. GEJ also re-awarded and completed the abuja to kaduna standard rails. These are presently the only 2 standard rail lines in west africa. My point is simple, why not follow the masterplan and give Nigerians modern trains?... why did they have to deviate after the abuja-kaduna rail and instead, start renovating the 1903 obsolete narrow gauge rails between lagos and kano which cannot support new trains?... Now we have the useless archaic trains which take 2 days to travel from lagos to kano, yet people celebrate this nonsense by saying it is air-conditioned. Meanwhile the trains are already derailing all over the place. ![]() |
April4th:Once again I would say, it is not your fault that you do not understand this. It is not in our nature as Africans to understand the principles of long term economics. All we understand and appreciate is a thing which puts food instantly on our tables. |
April4th:Typical African mind, your only measure of achievement or progress is something that puts food on your plate today today. You are not alone, dont worry. |
laudate:Just like I mentioned earlier, the positive economic, political and social impacts of those 'mere' actions are not visible or quantifiable. So it is very okay if you and I don't see them. As typical Africans, all we can see are the things that immediately put food on our tables. |
laudate:I was only pointing out the bit which OBJ did in his tenure which people have refused to see (because it seems invisible). OBJ gathered the funds required for development and also made Nigeria credit worthy and politically respected worldwide. He picked Nigeria from the gutter in 1999 and gave us a reputation and a huge bank account; this fact I am sure you cannot dispute. It was left to his successors to build on what he had gathered (funds and reputation), but they all squandered it and returned us to nothing. Even King David of the Bible in his tenure gathered the materials needed to build the temple; Solomon eventually did the building. You cannot underestimate the importance of the 'gathering' phase. However, it is only a typical African man who only cares about the food he eats today that does not think the 'gathering' phase is of any importance. We only think progress is when a new road is built or dualised or when a public building is repainted. Bro, real progress goes way beyond that. This is the reason why most of our leaders dont plan big projects, they only engage in microscopic shabby projects which they can complete within their tenures so all the praise and glory goes to them, but this is the exact thing which differentiates Africa from the developed world. |
signz:I made several statements, which exact point do you need a link for? |
ahaz:B4 you insult someone, are you aware that GEJ spent about the same amoount on power in his 5 years?... How many megawatts did his administration add to Nigeria?.... How many power plants did he start and finish? |
signz:That is not a news report, it is simple public knowledge to those who care to know. Do you need a source to know that Buhari is the president of NIgeria? |
Ucheosefoh: Etruth:For those of you wondering what OBJ did in 8 years, you are not to be blamed. Most Obj saved several billions of dollars in his 8 years of leadership so that his successor will have funds to bring about massive infrastructural development. Go and check the amount he met in Nigerian coffers in 1999 when he assumed office and also check the amount he left behind when he left. Good leadership requires forward thinking, vision and proper planning. It is not about indiscriminately awarding contracts or what you achieve now, but rather, it is about what your efforts achieve much later for your constituents. After many years of military rule, OBJ successfully lifted Nigeria out of a deep economic and political pit and placed Nigeria on the world economic map. OBJ cleared Nigeria's external debts and boosted our foreign reserves like never before. The reason behind that was to strengthen Nigeria's credit worthiness and restore Nigeria's political relevance in the international scheme of things. OBJ's 'wasted' 8 years was wasted in building a mega-momentum for the nation to launch us into massive infrastructural development. Unfortunately for OBJ and for Nigeria, OBJ never knew his successors were going to be visionless, irresponsible wasters. The train tracks you talk about, it was under OBJ's regime that the masterplan of the modernised Nigerian railway system was prepared. OBJ successfully constructed the Ajaokuta - Warri standard gauge line (which is of great economic importance to the steel cities) and he was about commencing the Abuja to Kaduna standard gauge rail when he handed over to Yaradua. However GEJ came in and renovated the 1903 narrow gauge tracks from Lagos to Kano instead of following the masterplan which was meant to replace the old tracks with modern standard gauges. Now we can only have snail speed trains and people are celebrating GEJ and insulting OBJ. A little investigation would even reveal that the money squandered in resuscitating the 1903 lines would have at least built half of the modern lines thereby giving us standard world class high speed trains. |
Another Ijaw man appointed!.. When will they appoint Igbo? ![]() **runs away from thread** |
Vanquay:Do you know what you are?.... an IDIOT! ..and an idiiot does not deserve an explanation on what PMB is going to do in Cameroon because your microscopic brain wouldnt still assimilate it. |
Every single thing about this 8th NASS is just controversial. Very soon someone will raise another crisis because of the flouting of the senate standing orders. |
And how is it the business of Metuh/PDP who Lai Mohammed serves? Is this what the joblessness of Mr Metuh or the clueless, convoluted opposition of PDP has gotten to? |
FowlYansh:Abii oo... They called GEJ clueless, and the man became even more clueless to the detriment of Nigeria and Nigerians. Now they are calling the present guy dullard.. God help us! ![]() |
disloman:The matter tire me... I think they would just keep wailing till 2023. |
Since Ive been following this Saraki wife issue, I've always assumed Saraki to be a PDP man... but then it just dawned on me once again that Saraki is actually in the APC. A queer case of a PDP man in APC clothing. ![]() |
SouthernBreeze:Only a stupiid person resorts to insults when asked to kindly explain the meaning of his own words. I didnt even know I was conversing with one earlier.. Good night. |
SouthernBreeze:Please can you kindly explain what you mean by 'falsehood' based on the topic being discussed and based on my response? Is it asking you to wait until a reasonable time has elapsed before you start expecting completed projects or is it my statement that Dino or anybody has a right to take pictures?.... What exactly do you mean when you say falsehood? |
basilo101:On the contrary, you are the one who is on a long thing... By this time last year, BH was engaging in face to face battles with the NA on a daily basis. On several occasions, soldiers were overwhelmed and took to their heels with several being murdered, NA barracks and armories being looted freely by BH and large Nigerian towns being siezed and ruled by BH for several months. But all that is no more and will never be allowed to happen again, that's what the general is trying to say. BH forces have now been decimated and they are scattered in several directions. Their present strategy is to just attack soft defenseless targets such as markets with suicide bombers. That is a classical sign of a decimated force, but sadly, this is the most difficult phase of the battle. Even the almighty US couldnt clinch victory in iraq and Afghanistan when their enemies resorted to attacking soft targets. |
SouthernBreeze:You want to see commisioning of projects in the first 50 day?... Even if its a barbing saloon it would take longer... Stop being ridiculous. Besides, its the man's right to take personal pictures; its also your right to stop going to invade his private photo albums to start complaining. |
A lot of wailing wailers are very angry at this development.... They wanted a confrontation, they wanted a major crisis in the creeks, they wanted the country to be grounded to a halt, the wished and prayed in their foolishness for the country to be ungovernable for Buhari... But this decision by Buhari has brought them much sorrow. Shame on you all!... Whether you wailers like it or not, no matter the evil you ediots wish for this country all in a senseless bid to say "I told you," Nigeria must move forward, Nigeria must be great again and the process would be kick-started by this very Pa Buhari whom you all love to hate. |
Everyday I just wish I wasnt a Nigerian... With the way in which the masses have been impoverished by evil greedy thieving political leaders for decades, how can any right thinking human not be in support of probing past leaders and recovering stolen funds? It is only a thief that would be uncomfortable when he hears the word 'probe.' Consequently, it is okay to mention here that all these desperately evil people calling for Buhari not to probe the last administration, all these people know for a fact that the last administration was filled with thieves. What kind of humans are we for Christ sake?.... Because of the love of 1 man (GEJ), millions are willing to keep suffering for life. Sometimes I just wonder why I was born into this zoo called Nigeria. Oh God, how I wish Buhari was still a military man. That is what Nigeria and Nigerians dearly need at this time. |
ElekeNtioba:Well as for that, I would rather support a dullard than support a proven imbecille; a case of a lesser evil. |
SolutionsGuy:My broda the matter tire me. When I read the kind of comments some of my compatriots make, it just weakens me. A fact which is as clear as glass, people just jump up on a faithful saturday morning and start spewing trash because they saw a tweet by cnbc... Kaii... I dey shame to be Nigerian sometimes. ![]() |
ElekeNtioba:As you can see, CNBC are not ignoramuses, they are simply humans and can make errors. On the other hand, you have proven yourself beyond doubt today to be an ignoramus for thinking CNBC were gods who were incapable of making errors; you believed CNBC reporters were more knowledgeable in the matters of the world bank than Oby who had previously worked there as a vice president. The most ridiculous aspect of your sorry case is that even though several people (including myself) pointed out with clear evidence that CNBC made an error, even though you had the privilege of the internet to just do a 2 minutes confirmation from the world bank website, you were still adamantly insulting everyone. A simple lesson you should have learnt today, hate will only eat you up; most times it starts by eating up your brains and eroding your ability to reason objectively. CNBC has now apologised for their error, an apology from you to all the people you insulted today would be in order. www.nairaland.com/attachments/2669645_screenshot20150725182508_png01cb44c74e344fb84d80416764b93a9c |
