Very wrong statement to make. A campaign to end police brutality does not equate to a plot to destabilise Nigeria.

If the security forces were on ground to manage the protests, miscreants would not have hijacked the protests.

No fundamental human right was trampled upon, if there's any, it's the right of the president of the largest black nation that was trampled upon, by deleting his "arguably harmless tweet" while leaving the field open for terrorist and enemies of the state to peddle their false and propaganda thereby inciting people to take up arms to kill and destroy...The use of twitter is not a right, and the right to freedom of expression does not start nor end with Twitter. Before Twitter Nigerians expressed themselves and after Twitter Nigerians will still do as we are doing on this platform.
Diplomacy is not in the vocab of double standard Jack, he simply goes with the vocal majority to harness traffic.
Freedom of association was and is enshrined in the constitution. Whether the tweet was harmless or not is open to debate. I've seen BBC describe it as genocidal but that's neither here nor there. So what if tomorrow BBC posts an opinion or news story not in the government's Favour, will they also then ban BBC?

This morning I saw a post somehere that the first lady Aisha Buhari deleted her Twitter account why has the government and president not followed suithuh Why drag innocent Nigerians into it? Many Nigerians make a livelihood via Twitter by advertising their products on the platform. What becomes of them?

Brother this is a democracy let's try to resolve issues by dialogue as much as possible.

There are less than 2million Nigerians on Twitter (including duplicated Account). That's less than 1% of our population.
When an international organization becomes a law unto itself (sentimentally and hypocriticlly determining what is right or wrong with double standard) and a willing tool in the hands of terrorist and purveyors of hate and fake news, then the government is left with no other options than to maintain law and order.
Maintain law and order by trampling on the fundamental rights of Nigerians over the deletion of a tweet? Could this not have been better handled diplomatically? This is just akin to throwing the baby away with the bathwater.

And Buhari also hold the right to determine what's best for Nigeria by suspending Twitter indefinitely in his domain. We can all be mad together.
If a single man (jack) can unilaterally determine what's permissible or not with his brazen double standard and hypocrisy then a government of over 200M people (voted into power by over 15M voters) also possess the right to kick their ass off.
In essence you admit its a wrong decision to mute the voices of 200million people and trample on their fundamental rights because a tweet was deleted?

I've seen several celebrities delete their social media accounts when they feel they have been offended or their rights violated.

In a democracy would it not have been more sensible for the presidency to delete his account and order his ministers to follow suit in protest rather than ban a whole platform from innocent Nigerianshuh

So what next? Ban CNN and BBC when they report news unfavorable to the government? Why doesn't the government register their complaints on the behaviour of Twitter with the US government instead and ask them to intervenehuh

Let's be calming down please. Yes the government has every right to express their displeasure but this could have been better handled.

Guys let's learn to be less emotional and more rational...

Do you know how much the truck alone costs? Talk more each cow in the truckhuh

If instead of burning the truck and it's contents, same was seized and sold, don't you think the proceeds would have gone a long way to compensate the families of the unfortunate victims who were probably poor which is why their kids were sent out to sell on the road in the first place?

Let's stop fanning the embers of war and instead get wise. We have a regional party like APGA which easterners can mobilize en masses under and hold their leaders accountable for. Get the SE governors and legislators to unite and agitate for the interests of the Ibo people at the centre! We keep talking about secession but that ain't gonna cut it. SE leaders have not done enough with what they have to transform their states unfortunately. So what's going to change if they are given their own countryhuh The focus should be on holding our leaders accountable and not just mindlessly calling Nigeria a zoo and so on and so forth because as they say charity begins at home. Nigeria has not failed us as much as our leaders have done.

We talk about being tired of Nigeria but the Ibos are the most travelled tribe in Nigeria! There is no nook or cranny in Nigeria where Ibos are not killing it in business! If as this truck was destroyed some inflamed Northerner chooses to retaliate and destroy some Ibo business in the North where does that take us? Already there is an embargo on onions to the east because of the truck destroyed last week. Is the country not hard enough already for us for us to now add food scarcity and food price increases to the list? Is that how much we enjoy sufferinghuh

The Bigwigs up there talking tough and calling for Biafra and UAR would be the first to fly to safety with their families in the event of any war whilst the blood of our youth is needlessly shed.

Yes, there is nowhere i said that fixing refineries was not important
Plus, once the refineries are fixed, they need constant maintenance, upgrades, expansions, etc...plus we need new refineries.

The money to create all that is going to come from the profits made in removing subsides.

Take GSM. GSM Has never been subsidsied by government at all. They charged high prices, people complained, (and openly called for government to cut prices...and still do)but we paid. At the end they took our profits and built the IT infrastructure that we have that has also created lots of direct and indrect jobs.

Why can't we do the same for oil? YES....prices will go up...BUT....there would be enough profits, and enough investment to keep old refineries running, new ones to be built, more jobs, more revenue, more tax revenue for government...and eventually we can become chief exporters of refined products, instead of importing from other countries.

Plus, most West African countries pay higher at the pump anyways,. And most of them are poorer than we are. Yet they have not collapsed at all. Will we?
Why is it better to focus on local production of rice compared to importation of rice?

The above is why GEJ wanted to remove subsides. Nigerians said no. The opposition said no. GEJ continued the waste that was subsidy.

Now the oppositon is in power and have seen sense. But Nigerians say no because somehow we are scared. Well, our fear is now costing us N1.2 trillion annually.
More reason why the refineries should be fixed post haste to avoid this kind of leakage.

The needful should be done first.

Removing subsidy first is akin to jumping out of a burning plane without a parachute and expecting to survive.

Bro get your head in the game....

Fix the refineries first and then stop importation. Fuel subsidies will die a natural death.

The same thing applies to electricity. We make it look like rocket science yet even neighbouring Benin Republic boasts of uninterrupted power supply. Tariff has been raised several times to encourage private sector participation but has power supply improved? No. Look at what is happening in the Cement industry because of a lack of government intervention. We are leaving everything to demand and supply when a cabal is fixing prices way beyond market forces and no one is calling these conglomerates to order.

Stopping subsidies before fixing the refineries is akin to what happened when government raised tariffs on importation of cars and then when prices of cars skyrocketed they now saw their folly and brought down the rates. Has this had any impact now? No! Cars are still as expensive as ever. Even Nigerian used cars are becoming more unattainable on a daily basis.

How many other West African countries are oil producing states? How many of them refine locally?

The whole economy is already under severe strain from the falling naira and you want to put the cart before the horse and remove subsidy before fixing the refineries?

I asked you what economic impact the last set of palliatives had on the Nigerian economy during the last round of fuel increases. Instead of focusing on stopping importation of fuel like the government did for importation of rice we are hearing that for fuel it's ok but not for rice.

China is also an economy that relies heavily on industrial exports, a higher tax to gdp ratio, and as a result has a much higher revenue than Nigeria which relies on oil...so they can afford protectionist whatever

Besides..petrol in china costs 459 naira per liter .

Fixing the refienreis is not the problem...making sure they earn enough of a profit to stay well fixed...and to also build new ones, and expand exisiting ones...is the problem...and is why subsidy must go.
Fixing the refineries is the answer. With functional refineries, there would be no need for importation of fuel. With no importation of fuel, there would be no need to subsidize fuel because we would not be buying at international rates. This will also improve our foreign reserves.

So making our local refineries a priority will put paid to the subsidy problem. I can assure you this will free up all the monies you were referring to for other government programs.

Oga as a so called honest sales man you have a duty of telling the seller the truth that instead of trying to get top dollar for a lemon he should put his money where his mouth is and fix the car up before offering the car at a ridiculously expensive price.

Since as you say golf 2 engine can be used let him change the engine first then bring it to the market in good working condition instead of trying to foist his problem on someone else.

Do the right thing first and fix the car. Then you choose to sell it for 10million if you so desire.

Brother once again I repeat stop spouting this falsehood that refineries cannot be profitable without subsidies

Refineries only need to be offered crude at low enough cost for them to be able to sell at a decent enough rate to make a margin.

Who defines the cost of crude oil that they will use in producing? Government and they do not need to sell to domestic refineries at international rates for these refineries to not only stay afloat but remain profitable.

In fact imagine the amount of Forex spent daily on importation of fuel. With the deregulation of the naira, this will only further worsen the balance of payments position of the country and all the attendant inflationary tendencies to boot.

Then you want to first remove subsidy before fixing the refineries when you know that petrol is the lifeblood of the economy?

Kuku kill us all!

Modified....

Speaking about tax to GDP ratio.... Some time back government was talking about broadening the revenue base of the country... Vat was increased, stamp duty also, customs was revamped....

What happened to all those effortshuh?

Why are we not talking firstly about reducing cost of governance to the barest minimum which will definitely have less negative impact on the livelihood of the citizenry than a removal of subsidies? What was the impact the last set of palliatives had on Nigerians when fuel price was increased to 145?

Why are states not focused on increasing their revenue sources instead of waiting all the time on federal allocation and bailouts?

Why are we not looking at these instead of subsidieshuh

You mentioned the nominal cost of fuel in China... Why not mention the cost of fuel in China relative to its per capital income and then compare same to Nigeria and then ask yourself what any responsible government would do in such a situation knowing the impact it would have on its citizens...

Again, renovating refinereis won't solve the problem.....infact the whole renovating refineries brouhala is indicative of the kind of corruption that 1) not proivatising NNPC 2) KEEPING SUBSIDY causes.

Deregulate the market....and privatise NNPC. This would force NNPC to work for its money, and use the resulting profits from subsidy removal to see that the refinereis work properly, and even build new ones....because no price controls .

Government saves at least a trillion naira a year...which it can use for other things like educaiton and health.
Big big lie.....

6 years of fighting corruption and you are still spouting the story that refineries cannot work because of corruption.

We keep talking about deregulation as this is only path to heaven. Even China with the largest economy still employs protectionist policies till date to ensure the welfare and interests of its citizens is paramount.

So dear brother what is lacking is simply the will to make things work especially the refineries. Stop brainwashing yourself that deregulation is the way.

Well, refinereis don't work because subsides means that they don't earn enough of a profit to work

Petrol in Nigeria has been sold below its cost of production since 1988....meaning that the refinereis don't earn enough of a prpfit for them to pay for maintenance and upgrade costs...plus even new refienreis.

Even if government found some money and fixed the refienreis...so long as they don't earn a profit....they won\t be able to buy money for spare parts and stuff.

Well, in 2019, the amount we spent subsidsing fuel could have paid for NHIS costs for millions of Nigerians...plus we lost N10 TRILLION between 2006-16 on subsdising fuel...and at least 6 trillion more.

That's money that if there was no subsidy could have been used for other things....like refinereis.
Again I ask you again, how much has been spent on renovating the refineries and why can't we even get one fully operational? How muchhuh?? Would it be more expensive to refine petrol locally and sell to the domestic market than importing and subsidizing imported fuelhuh

Why are we placing all hopes on the Niger refinery and Dangote refinery?
