Gerrard59: Well, Dangote, Access Bank, Glo and other Nigerian companies operating outside the country also do same by repatriating profits to Nigeria. What you imply is that Ethiopia should make it difficult for Dangote Cement to repatriate her profits to her home headquarters' country, which does not make sense. Once you make it difficult for companies to repatriate back to their head office, they stop investing.
@Topic: The comments by Nigerians simply means they are averse to FDI and the benefits it brings. Not only is the business environment already tough but you make it difficult for foreign investors to thrive thereby reducing FDIs. I don't know which top 20 economy that is not open to FDI. Saying that Nigerians are up to the task is entirely false if not they should have met demand and even open branches abroad. I cannot think of a major fashion (high or low) retailer that started from Nigeria and has opened stores abroad like Mr Price, Uniqlo, Zara etc. With this mentality, I doubt Nigeria will one day become a top 20 economy in the world anytime soon. Even Vietnam and Myanmar do not operate like this.
my brother, I know that in principle this qualifies as an FDI. But in essence, someone who is not bringing in machines to manufacture here in Naija did not really bring in FDI
Jwonder: Investors are running away, nobody wants to invest in a volatile economy where one furu drinking slowpoke will wake up and increase tax without taking into consideration that these companies provide their own security and power, it ain’t easy naa.
That’s why Nigerians can never get the best products especially the telecommunications industry because most companies need to compromise in quality so as keep up with the cost of running their companies and still make profit.
abeg, no be this kind of investment we need. We don't need people that will import and resale. We need pple that will bring in machines, manufacture in Nigeria and create jobs.
israelmao: Ghana's bitter rivalry with Nigeria is age-long but the fact that Ghana must come to term with is that,Nigeria even in her worse state is better than Ghana in term of human and material resources.
before, I don't really give a damn. But now, I don vex. The reason for demolition is a slap on our face. It could have easily been resolved. I propose we give them 2 choices....either they rebuild the structure at Thier own cost, or we pull down their embassy here in Nigeria.
GentRoyal: I wanted to say Computer Science but I won't coz your course of study may not necessarily bring food to your table, after school.. However, Computer Science grads will agree with me that the syllabus is wack and completely outdated. I wonder what languages like Fortran, COBOL, PASCAL, etc.. are still doing in 21st century when you languages like Python, Java (Android dev), Swift, C# are being sidelined.
DorianD: 1.8 million naira in a cartoon, assuming it's a thousand naira denomination would be suspiciously heavy.Story is plausible but false.Specious!!
I suspect u have not seen that much cash in your life before. (Na joke oooo). But The difference in weight won't be much compared to the real indomie
joey150: But, But, why was 1.8 million naira inside an indomie carton in the first place?
On second thought....
Was the indomie carton sealed or not? How can a sealed indomie carton have 1.8 million naira in it?
Again, if it wasn't sealed, why would anybody buy indomie in an unsealed carton?
Even if it was unsealed, did the seller not check the content at all throughout the transaction?
Let's pretend the seller was careless, did the buyer not bother for one second to look into the unsealed indomie carton before walking away from the store?
I'm just one of those people that like to question everything they hear.
ok let me educate u on why this is possible. Traders in busy markets that are not so secure often hide their cash proceeds for the day among the goods before closing for the day. It is a common practice. No one would think of looking for money to steal among cartons of indomie. It is even less conspicuous if the carton is re-sealed to make it look intact. It is possible the trader hid it the day before but his assistant opened the shop the following day and started selling before he came.
Musisco01: Maybe you haven't been to the market in a long long time, if you have, maybe your idea about fishery and poultry would change instantly
oga accept it. U are grossly ignorant. I am a poultry farmer. I really wish I had more knowledge. Probably if I had trained as one, I would be more knowledgeable. One of my kids would definitely study veterinary medicine
Oyindamolah: One of my friends from college dated a girl for a few years. He was rich and he suspected the girlfriend was a gold digger. People believed that she had actually dumped her previous boyfriend when she found this current one - because the current boyfriend was richer.
So he tried a few things (not all of them were designed to test her but some were):
(1) He stopped taking her to expensive restaurants and took her to “dhabas” or just regular restaurants instead. This was in India, many years ago. A “dhaba” is a roadside restaurant with seats in the open. Not the most upscale place. The guy personally did not mind eating at regular places. He wasn't a typical show-off. He liked doing a lot of regular stuff. She had a major problem with this.
(2) He took her to a cheap circus show.
(3) He took her on a backpacking trip to Europe. Earlier he always made her stay at the best and most expensive hotels. This time, they stayed at inexpensive hostels. This wasn't really a test. The guy actually liked backpacking trips where he could stay at hostels and meet a lot of “real” people.
(4) She always demanded that he buy business class tickets for them. He started buying economy. He personally didn't mind flying economy so much. But the girl got very agitated with the idea of having to fly economy and not having lounge access.
(5) He used to give her very expensive presents earlier. He'd already bought her a car and the latest cell phone (this was in the era before smartphones). He gradually shifted to gifts that were more “personalized” and less expensive - collages of their photos together, poetry that he'd written for her etc. She didnt care for those things.
(6) She used him to further her career. She'd ask him to make a referral to all the companies where he had great contacts. She'd get in to these companies without much of an interview (the boy’s dad who was very well-connected usually pulled strings to make this happen….he was a super generous guy). The girl always left the jobs within a few months. She just wouldn't last anywhere. The guy stopped making those referrals. The girl threw a huge fit.
(7) The last thing he did was the truest test. He told her he doesn't want his father’s wealth and he wants to build his own career without his dad’s assistance. He won't accept anything from his father. The guy was actually pretty good at his studies and in my opinion, was capable of building a career of his own. But quite obviously, she didn't want to take that chance. She didn't have the patience to wait around till he built his career from scratch. She left him a few days after he told her this.
The guy is now very happy and is married to a very sensible and self-made young lady.
Criticises Hereditary Succession in Charismatic Ministeries - Putting huge doubts and questions as regard his first Son leading the Church's next generation.
much as I dislike Oyedepo, I think he is very smart. It will be foolish of him to try to hand over a behemoth congregation like winners chapel to his family member. He will just kill the church
konkonbilo: I just rented a flat last week, didn't know that they put on water only once a day and the water finishes after 30min or 1hr the most. I'm really angry now because have paid and packed in after suffering searching for house over a month and wasted alot of money on agent dues and transporting different agent from one location to another. When I was showned the house they assured me there's water and it was locked from the back.. When I complained the landlady said I should go buy drum that even her uses drum for storage of water. Though the rooms of the house are big, that was what attracted me that atleast I could use for my work as well. But that baggage de disturb me and the gate is been locked so early.
this one is ok Na. Most houses do this. If u don't, tenant will use running water to damage Ur house very fast. U will pack soakaway pit tire.
I know some landlords are unreasonable. But men, tenants can be horrible, just because they paid rent so they can damage the house. Student tenants are the worst
I’m writing to you as someone who had passed through this kind of experience before. Mine was worse than yours. I will share the experience with you
Inform your parents on what is happening, they can’t beat or rebuke you
I was admitted to study pharmacy in 2006 at the great citadel, Obafemi Awolowo University. After my first session, I had 4 carryovers. Not as if I wasn’t serious or very dull, things just went in the way I didn’t understand. I summoned courage and repeated the first year, taking only the 4 courses. I passed all and proceeded to 200level. I repeated 200level and had to take all the courses again in my fourth year at the university. After the fourth year, I passed the courses though with resit in two courses. I promoted to 300level for the fifth year. I repeated 300level and had to take all the courses in 300level in my 6th year at the university.
Finally, the worse came after my 6th year in OAU pharmacy school, it was a withdraw from the faculty of pharmacy to other faculty. I wept and felt so bad as if that was the end of my life. Every thought in me had elements of suicide in it. But my parents were so aware, I called my mum who was at work immediately my course mate notified me of my fate. Dad had known earlier that day before me through one of our lecturers.
My parents stood by me and made sure I was happy and supported me financially, physically and spiritually until I was able to change my department to Geography in the faculty of Social Sciences.
I’m a Geography department graduate now and on a verge of being a registered Surveyor and I feel more happy and fulfilled than being a pharmacist
Being withdrawn from the medical school is not the end of life. There are billions of opportunities in other fields.
Please notify your parents now. They will know later, but they will feel more disappointed then than now.
I am so sorry. But I just can't resist sounding cynical on Ur case. If u no know book, there are departments u just can't survive in. All Ur parents money can't keep u there. After passing WAEC and JAMB thru special centre and all that, u think u can still come into some departments and continue that way....... E no go work.
One advise: spare no expense to educate Ur kids properly. Don't allow them to cut corners in their early education. When they get to university level, they would have been academically toughened to take the stress
Wyloutproperty: You are sick. Didn't you hear she complained to other passengers and even an officer of the law. They all failed her. The best she could have done is what she did. Keep calm and collect evidence. She could have been the only female there, and it could have gone the Indian bus rape way if she insisted on raising dust at the moment. Don't let me curse you m
u are not smart at all. If u were, u would have realised she ONLY complained after calmly watching the man grope her while she videos and gathers evidence. That is stupid. Her way no pure and those people she complained to realised her impure intentions and ignored her.
A pure person with good intentions will be immediately too mortified at the first attempt to grope her and will quickly raise alarm or at least complain loudly to embarrass the man.
Dunno what to say sha. But what kind of drama queen will keep watching a man grope her just so she could get video evidence? Is she a LovePeddler? Why not just give him a blow to the face or ribs, he will behave. But she rather chose to capture a video of her own groping for over minute.
Final verdict......her way no pure. She is an attention seeker.
I stopped watching when I heard she was studying political science.......like WTF!!!!!! How can one travel all the way down there to study something u can easily study very well here in Naija? Total waste of money IMO
Golan007: But when they aren't attracted, its because government doesn't know what it's doing.
This is what your face is like hearing this news:
oga, what we need to actually grow our economy is FDIs and not FPIs. FDI is designed to remain, to be sustained. It will create jobs and all. FPI is so volatile and so unstable. The investors can pull out any time and cause u serious economic drain.
Am sure ur politics clogged brains won't enable u to understand the difference nor the implications. No be me go teach u. Just go to school
oshozondii: Remember Ese Oruru, the 14-year-old girl resident with her parents in Bayelsa, who was abducted, taken to Kano and impregnated by Yinusa Dahiru aka Yellow in 2015.
Oluneutral: Fine, apologize to her for raising up your hands on her explaining to her that it wasn't intentional that it was out of provocation and calmly tell her that you can't do more than you're already doing presently, so you advise her to spend her money the way she deem fit, afterall, it's her money.
I don't know why people over react to issues. Except the OP has other issues he is not telling us. If not, the solution is simple. Just apologize for hitting her. Then give her the marching orders: if u can't live within the means I have provided for u, there are 2 choices. Either u provide the rest urself or u get the f*CK outta my house- without Ur daughter ooo. If I catch u cheating just to meet up, u will still get the f*CK outta my house. Sense will just come to her Naturally. Despite all those stupid friends of hers, she can never be deceived about the need to remain married to a good man and have a stable family life. She won't be foolish enough to be a divorcee over something she can avoid. If she decides to leave and marry another man, then know she was never meant for u initially.
Vietnaminfo: I deal with fact and not hear say. The same letter was sent to us in Vietnam too and no one cares to listen to them. How can one run from frying pan to fire. Vietnam has 200+ cases of Covid 19 and no death reported and almost all are treated and discharged without paying a kobo to the vietnam hospital. They were all fed by the vietnam government and most milliary baracks were used for Qurantine. Nigeria, which way?
oga stay in Vietnam. It is not by force to return. But if u chose to return, bear your own cost
