Akpabio meets Buhari in London: Strikes Senate Presidency deal, more than 10 House of assembly members to defect with him. Embattled former governor of Akwa Ibom state, MR Godswill Akpabio, has finally met with President Muhammadu Buhari in London after striking a deal that has cemented his defection move to the ruling All Progressives Congress last Friday. Propellerng.com learnt on good authority that a deal has been struck between the APC and Akpabio that the former governor be made to succeed Mr Bukola Saraki as senate president after he (Akpabio) delivers Akwa Ibom state to the APC in the 2019 election. Propeller Newspapers had last week exclusively reported Akpabio’s planned exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform on which he served as governor for 8 years and was subsequently elected senate minority leader in 2015. Akpabio had recently faced threats of arrests by the country’s anti-graft agencies on grounds of massive corruption during his reign as governor if he failed to defect to support the president in 2018. Sources close to the former governor accuse incumbent Governor Udom Emmanuel of not doing enough to protect Akpabio from the ruling party’s threats. ”Udom betrayed Akpabio by opening him up to the scavenging federal government. He didn’t do enough to cover the tracks, and this is the result”, one of Akpabio’s senior aides said in an anonymous interview granted Propeller Newspapers Saturday night. According to him, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission “could not have come this close to unearthing everything during Oga’s era if Udom had not maliciously cooperated with them by allowing them unrestrained access to classified financial documents”, the aide said referring to the massive thievery and misappropriation of public funds during the Akpabio era. More than 800billion Naira is believed to have been stolen by Akpabio and his cronies within 8 years. Authentic sources confirm that the EFCC have evidences of foreign currencies stashed away by Akpabio in his country home and in foreign nations which they believe is part of the stolen resources of the state. But rather than press charges against him, “they seek to take political advantage of the helpless man by forcing him to work for the APC in 2019”, a top government functionary in Abuja confided in our Group Political Editor last week. Akpabio to defect on Wednesday with 5 House of Reps, more than 10 House of assembly members. __________ In an exclusive chat last night with Propeller Newspapers, presidential aide and former senator Ita Enang has confirmed the defection of senate minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, to the All Progressives Congress (APC). “I can confirm that he is coming to the All Progressives Congress. There will be a grand reception for His Excellency (Akpabio) on Wednesday and for others who will be coming with him.” Propeller Newspapers can confirm that former Governor Akpabio was today issued his membership card of the ruling party. We can also confirm that some political heavyweights mostly from Ikot Ekpene senatorial district are moving with Akpabio to the APC. They include former works commissioner in the state, Mr Don Etim, former senator Effiong Bob, Leader of the House, Mr Udo Kieran Akpan, former Speaker and House of Reps member for Etinan Federal Constituency, Mr Sam Ikon, respective House of Reps members from Abak and Essien Edim/Etim Ekpo/Ika, Mr Emmanuel Akpan and Mr Emmanuel Ekon, former Information Commissioner, Mr Aniekan Umanah, state House of Assembly members, Nse Ntuen, Usoro Akpanusoh, Aniekan Uko, Aniekan Bassey, Idongesit Ntekpere, Uduak Ududoh, Mark Esset, among others. At least 10 house members are said to be ready to defect to the APC with Akpabio. Also defecting are Mr Victor Antai, serving commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the state as well as Ibanga Akpabio, commissioner for Labour and Manpower Development. Chairmen of Ikot Ekpene and Essien Udim are said to have also signed on to the defection plan. Speaker Onofiok Luke and Senator Bassey Albert are said to have defied Akpabio’s request to move with them to the APC. In a meeting with stakeholders of the PDP at the banquet hall of government house on Saturday night, Governor Udom Emmanuel called on partymen to brace for a “rough and tough” battle in 2019. https://www.thekillerpunch.com/akpabio-meets-buhari-in-london-strikes-senate-presidency-deal-more-than-10-house-of-assembly-members-to-defect-with-him/amp/ |

Governor Udom lambasts Senator Akpabio, as PDP mourns exit of senate minority leader. Gov. Udom Emmanuel has dismissed his estranged godfather and Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as a greedy, insatiable man who wanted him to be his puppet. He was addressing an emergency PDP stakeholders meeting summoned to address the exit of the former governor from the party. He told the meeting that he couldn’t surrender the government to the former governor to run from Abuja, hence, their parting of ways. He told the meeting that he did everything to please Akpabio but that he couldn’t be satisfied. He opened up to the meeting that he had to resort to legal tactics to stop the EFCC from probing how the former governor spent state funds when he was in power but yet he couldn’t be satisfied. The governor said his estranged godfather is too proud, egoistic and arrogant and that it took him a lot to condone him. But some of the stakeholders who spoke at the meeting lamented that the party is in big trouble in the state as so many people may follow Akpabio to APC. A lawmaker hinted that some members of the house of Assembly are on their way out of the party. The meeting agreed that some chieftains of the party be watch listed as they may be moles for Akpabio who’s all out to dislodge Udom from power come next election. On the 2019 election, the governor told the meeting to brace up for tough and rough times as they are plans by the APC to rig him out of power using federal might and INEC. The governor was advised to rid the government of all the Akpabio men. The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, is defecting from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a presidential aide has said. President Muhammadu Buhari’s Special Assistant on Prosecution, Okoi Obono-Obla, posted a message on Facebook, Saturday night, saying that Mr Akpabio will be received into APC on Thursday by the Acting President Yemi Osinbajo and other top leaders of the party at a rally in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state. https://www.thekillerpunch.com/governor-udom-lambasts-senator-akpabio-pdp-mourns-exit-senate-minority-leader/amp/

Quotes From the Video..... "Whatever crowd you might have seen or told, just take it as a mere story. “As a matter of principle, it is not in my character to abuse people, but, what I am assuring is that, Sokoto state is an APC state.” “But, I pity my younger brother, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal. He is a very promising young politician, with full potentials. “But, maybe something else is guiding his decision. This is the worst decision he has taken in his life. “At his age, he should not be in a hurry. He is a fine young politician. I have a lot of respect for him. “If he had taken the consideration of the people he is representing, the people of Sokoto State, seriously, he would not have gone into the PDP. “The people of the state are also solidly behind me, other Senators, other House of Representatives members and elders who have chosen to remain in the APC,” ”In the next few days or months, Nigerians would be surprised how the APC is going to fare.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L11y7Ynr7So |

Reacting to Tambuwal’s defection, Senator Aliyu Wamakko said the action of the defectors will not affect the chances of the APC in the 2019 elections. Daily Trust reports that Wamakko and the Sokoto State Deputy Governor Ahmed Aliyu did not leave the APC. Speaking on NTA last night, Wamakko said “Let me assure you that the Sokoto State where I come from is an APC state. The entire state is APC. Whatever you might have seen or might have been told, just take it as a mere story. The people of Sokoto are behind Mr President General Muhammadu Buhari, they are certainly behind Senator Wamakko their former governor, and all other leaders who chose to remain in APC. Insha Allah by Saturday or Sunday when I get back to Sokoto, you will see who is really in charge of Sokoto. I am assuring you that there is no cause for alarm.” Culled From Daily Trust Newspaper https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/buhari-meets-apc-govs-leaders-as-tambuwal-returns-to-pdp-263750.html

This is getting interesting.... Good move by Sen Wamakko...... At least he now has the chance to install the original person he wanted to succeed him before Tambuwal the opportunist came into the picture. |
A former Commissioner for Finance in Sokoto State, Farouk Malami Yabo, has declared his intention to contest for governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Yabo vowed to challenge Governor Aminu Tambuwal. Yabo, who served in the administration of former Governor Aliyu Wamakko, promised to reposition the state on the path of economic prosperity, strengthen its values, empower and encourage self-reliance among youth, women and the physically challenged. He said: “Sokoto State needs to be transformed and revived economically through job creation to make it an enterprising hub.” The former commissioner said such can best be achieved by diversifying the economy by improving on farming. He urged party faithful to work for its victory in the elections. Yabo said: “My declaration is informed by the passion and vision to advance the state on a new economic, political and infrastructural stream, better than its present state for the benefit of all.” http://thenationonlineng.net/ex-sokoto-commissioner-eyes-tambuwals-job/ |
Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa has pledged to deliver Adamawa to President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general election. Bindow made the declaration at a political rally organised by the state chapter of the APC to welcome him back to the state on Tuesday in Yola. He said that the reception was a demonstration of the love people of the state has for him in particular, Buhari and the party in general. He said that the event as well as the turn out of the people convinced him that the administration had affected the people of the state positively. “With what I have seen today, I am convinced that APC is the party to beat in Adamawa,’’ the governor said. He also said that Buhari would win more votes in the state due to his development stride across the country. He appealed to followers to continue to support the party to win all elective positions in the forthcoming elections. Bindow also promised to sustain his transformation of the state by delivering more dividends of democracy. He advised the party faithful to register and collect their permanent voter cards and ensure the victory of the APC at the polls. According to him, “your love for the party will become useless when you don’t have the voter card to vote’’. Earlier, Alhaji Ibrahim Bilal, the state Chairman of the party, commended the supporters for trouping out in large numbers to welcome the governor. Bilal assured that the party was not afraid of any opposition in the state. He said that the achievements recorded by the administration had already destabilised the opposition in the state, adding that the chances of APC winning the state were brighter. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/2019-gov-bindow-pledges-to-deliver-adamawa-to-buhari-262483.html |
Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, is not leaving the ruling party. Describing Ortom as a man of honour, Oshiomhole said the Benue governor who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over three years ago cannot return there now. On Monday, Ortom had said he was considering joining a new party since he had been given a “red card” in the APC. But Oshiomole said the APC does not have a red card, therefore it can not give what it does not have. Oshiomhole spoke after meeting with Ortom at the APC secretariat on Thursday. “For PDP hovering round they must know that only people without honour will vomit in the morning and in the afternoon, they convert it to lunch. People like Ortom who have honour cannot leave PDP three and half years ago, with his eyes open, and then there is some tension in his master bedroom, he is thinking of returning to People Deceiving People? I mean that cannot be an option,” he said. “He is a man of honour. He knows that once you make one step forward, you take the second step to consolidate the first step and that is the way to go.” He said the issue between Ortom and George Akume, a former governor, would be resolved and there would be peace in the Benue chapter of the party. “Senator Akume is a respected leader of the party. He is former governor and a current senator. He will recognise the need for peace and we have what it takes to make peace,” he said. “In Benue, we are going for win-win solution. Governor Ortom is not going anywhere. He is a very prominent member of our party and we appreciate his leadership in Benue. We will do everything possible to help those who have issues to resolve the issues. The only thing will we not accept is anybody leaving the house we have toiled to build together. “APC does not even have red card, so we can’t give what we don’t have. We recognise that there could be a legitimate legal issue like agreement, disagreement and contest. All these we are familiar with, they are evidence that we are a democratic party. When leaders have disagreement, it is to help them and find a common ground and issues in Benue are not so fundamental that cannot be resolved. We are very confident that we will resolve them.” Ortom was among the three APC governors who met with PDP leaders in Ilorin, Kwara state capital, on Wednesday. Also in attendance was Senate President Bukola Saraki. The politicians met during the burial of the mother of Kawu Baraje, leader of the nPDP,a faction of the APC. https://www.thecable.ng/ortom-is-not-going-anywhere-says-oshiomhole |
Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State has congratulated Dr. Kayode Fayemi, of the All Progressives Congress, over his victory in the Ekiti governorship election on Saturday, even as the PDP condemned the poll. Dankwambo, a PDP presidential aspirant, in a tweet today said: “We gave all the necessary support to our party and the candidate, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka to win the #EkitiDecides2018, but sad we lost. In life, you win some and lose some. Congratulations to the winner, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi.” He urged supporters of the PDP to be steadfast, adding that the defeat should further strengthen the party's resolve to give Nigerians, a credible alternative in 2019. "I call on our supporters to be steadfast. We must not lose hope and be discouraged. The task ahead is too great for us to dwell on the current setback. This defeat should further strengthen our resolve to give Nigerians, a credible alternative in 2019". https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/dankwambo-congratulates-fayemi-261063.html |

Senator Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday took a swipe at opposition Peoples’ Democratic Party Senators as she asked them to stop daydreaming of becoming majoring in the Senate. Tinubu made the statement in protest to the decision of the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, when he asked her to second the adoption of votes and proceedings of Tuesday 10 July moved by a member of the minority PDP, presiding officer. She accused Ekweremadu of favoritism. Excerpt: “With due respect Mr. President, can you give me a minute? Why would I second a minority for crying out loud?” she asked. “I am not a minority,” a PDP senator fired back. She continued: “We are majority, you ought to choose a majority before moving the motion and with all due respect to the Senate President, I have been here before you. All of you that are sitting, you can see that the ranking senator, permit me, all of you that are even revolting are just rookie senators. “Excuse me. This time, I would do it because I don’t want to waste much time, I would it because you chose Senator Gilbert Nnaji. Nnaji used to be my colleague in the seventh senate but if you had taken some of these new ones that came, I don’t think I would have done it. “Because you ought to learn order of precedence. They call it order of precedence. You have to learn order of precedence. You are not yet a majority and you can never be a majority. Mr. President is just doing favouritism which shouldn’t be that. “But I would do t because it is Senator Nnaji happens to be my neighbor and also a well-respected colleague, i will do it for you but not for the new ones. Thank God you chose well. “Anyway, having registered my protest, I rise to support the motion ably moved by my colleague that the votes and proceedings of Tuesday be adopted.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97VIpHkfbBk |
Barely 24 hours after the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and 34 other political parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), some of the parties in the PDP list have distanced themselves from the opposition coalition. On Monday, 39 opposition political parties were said to have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to field a single candidate for the 2019 presidential election. The political the parties under the aegis of Coalition of Unity Political Parties (CUPP) also resolved to enter into a covenant with the Nigerian people by commencing work on a blueprint manifesto. But some of the political parties, including the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) and Accord Party (AP) yesterday disowned the PDP coalition, alleging that they were fraudulently included in the list to deceive Nigerians. Accordingly, a total of 20 political parties under the auspices of Coalition for Progressives Political Parties (CPPP) have formed an alliance to back President Muhammadu Bihari’s re-election bid.[ Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, chairman of PDM, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, said the CPPP coalition is “made up of like mind political parties who believe in the unity and stability of the country”. He noted that the coalition which was formed in 2014 ahead of the 2015 presidential election aligned with the presidential candidature of the current president, emphasising that the coalition was resurrected to counter the “orchestrated PDP coalition” against the APC-led government. While berating the PDP coalition, he stated that the parties were driven by selfishness and hunger to capture power in 2019. He explained that the 20 parties that formed the coalition and those who abstained from the PDP charade believed in the drive to building a new Nigeria. The PDM chairman alleged that most of the parties in the PDP list were fraudulently included to sign the MoU to deceive Nigerians. He noted that, while the Accord Party chairman, himself and other parties abstained from the PDP meeting, their party names were found on the list without their consent. Noting that this alone raises doubt about the credibility of the coalition, he said, “, we woke to a new development where PDP outside power has now managed to create another coalition. As facts continue to emerge, they listed 36 political parties. Our analysis of that coalition reveals that a number of political parties were included in that coalition fraudulently. “Part of the 42 political parties they listed is Accord party and the chairman of the party is here with us. If you are creating a coalition, you need to be honest about it as to who and who are members of the coalition. “As of today, the membership of that coalition is in doubt. Two members also listed at that coalition are here. We are not part of that coalition because we represent a type of politics, which is in total contradiction of what they are doing. “We do not believe that our country should be governed by people whose only objective is to capture power. Of what purpose is that coalition built? Is it for the purpose of taking Nigeria back to 1999 and 2015 or is it for the purpose of building a new Nigeria? “That purpose has not been stated, even in their memorandum. The only thing in their MoU is to agree to capture power in 2019. Their programme has not been made known to the Nigerian public. We will not be part of a coalition that does not have a programme for Nigeria.” On the objective of the CPPP coalition, Ibrahim said it was to mobilise Nigerians to play greater role in political activities in the country and ensure that they are given the right to elect their leaders in a free, fair and credible electoral process. He also stated that CPPP objectives also include to monitor and exert pressure on INEC to uphold the sanctity of elections and to help identify security threat, amongst others. Also, the Secretary of the Coalition and National Chairman of the Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Shittu Muhammed Kabiru, noted that the coalition is to advance the course of democracy and to stabilise the economy which was mismanaged by past PDP led government. Shittu said the coalition would bring Nigeria out of economic impoverishment. “We want Nigerians to know that our coalition is for a new Nigeria and to advance the course of Nigeria and democracy and also to change the country from impoverishment to economic prosperity. “We want Nigeria to survive; we will do everything to defend the economy of this country. We are concerned about the unity and stability of Nigeria”, Shittu said. The political parties present at the meeting include Accord Party, Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), United Progressive Party (UPP), Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN). Others are Freedom Justice Party (FJP), Fresh Party, (FP) New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP), Nigeria’s Peoples Congress (NPC), Nigeria Peoples Movement (NPM), Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), National Action Congress (NAC), and NDLP. Earlier yesterday, PDM had distanced itself from the MoU signed by 39 opposition parties on Monday. The national chairman of PDM, Ibrahim, in a statement said the party was not desperate to capture power for its sake. The national chairman further warned party members to be alert and wary of mercenaries who do not wish the nation well. The statement noted: “We would like to draw the attention of the general public that PDM is not part of any coalition of political parties and not part of any arrangement to work with a group of political parties for the purpose of 2019 general elections. PDM has never attended any meeting at which such a coalition was discussed, let alone be part of it. “PDM is not a party of desperate people whose only objective is to capture power for its own sake. Our party has its own aims and objectives and these are not compatible with the aims and objectives of the kind of coalition mentioned in the report. “As the general elections approach, our members and indeed the general public are advised to be on the alert and be wary of mercenaries who do not wish our nation well and whose actions are motivated by pecuniary interests.” https://leadership.ng/2018/07/11/24-hours-after-mou-pdm-19-others-disown-coalition/ |
Outgoing Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose’s plan to instal his deputy, Professor Kolapo Olusola Eleka as his successor may have been dealt a big blow as several key members of his party switched support to the All Progressives Congress. President Muhammadu Buhari received the defectors today at the grand finale of the governorship campaign of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate in Saturday’s election. The mega rally took place at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti. The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the two federal lawmakers were among the defectors, along with the chief whip of the state house of assembly. There were indications dropped by the new APC faithful, that many assembly members may also be getting ready to abandon the PDP, ahead of the crucial 14 July election. Among the defectors was Sen. Fatimat Raji Rasaki, representing Ekiti Central Senatorial District. She is the wife of a former military governor of Lagos. Mr. Olamide Oni, House of Representatives representing Efon/Ijero/Ekiti West Federal Constituency also dumped PDP. Senator Rasaki represents the largest constituency in the state, the same area where Fayemi picked his running mate, an old political war-horse Chief Bisi Egbeyemi. Political pundits said if the Ekiti central senatorial constituency vote for Fayemi, the election will be lost by the PDP candidate, Olusola Eleka. The switching of allegiances by the PDP legislators was one of the highlights of the today’s rally and it was seen as a big deal as the APC national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, telling Senator Rasaki repeatedly: ‘God Bless You’, ‘God Bless you’, when they met before President Buhari arrived. The Chief Whip of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Sunday Akinniyi and the Commissioner for Justice and attorney-general under Fayose administration, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi also switched allegiances to APC at the event. Ajayi was also Fayose’s attorney-general in his truncated first term, 2003-2006. NAN reports that the National Chairman of APC, Mr. Adams Oshiomole, was also on hand to receive the defectors. He assured them of equal treatment in the party. Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Senator Rasaki, said they had to dump the PDP because of the selfishness of Governor Fayose in the state. According to her, the PDP in the state has been monopolised by a single individual, who would not allow justice and fairplay in the day-to day running of the affairs of the party. Former Minister of State for Works, Prince Dayo Adeyeye was the first to jump out of the Fayose PDP boat, after a controversial primary election, the outcome of which the lawyer-journalist said was predetermined in favour of Kolapo Olusola-Eleka. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/07/fayose-loses-senator-rasaki-rep-member-chief-whip-to-apc/

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has expressed shock over what he called mass failure of the indigenes from the state, in the 2018 May/June West African School Certificate Examination. Adeyeye blamed it on the “systemic” breakdown of education in the state under Governor Ayodele Fayose. This was contained in a press release signed by his media aide, Bayo Ojo, on Friday. “One is shocked with the abysmal mass failure of Ekiti students in the recently released WAEC 2018 results placing the state on number 23 out of 36 states. “We have earlier cried to the public that the celebrated achievement of coming first in NECO examination was as a result of concerted efforts made by Oni/Fayemi administrations to reposition the education sector. “It takes time for a seed to germinate and bear fruits. The results of the giant strides of the two administrations and huge investment in pedagogical and infrastructural facilities was undeservedly appropriated by Fayose as his achievements. “One wondered then how you could achieve such outstanding result without any investment whatsoever in infrastructural and human capital development. Fayose was claiming that he could reap without sowing. Now the deceit has finally been exposed,” it read. http://dailypost.ng/2018/07/06/waec-adeyeye-reveals-cause-mass-failure-2018-may-june-wassce/ |

For me I don't see them making any significant damage to PMB re-election bid in 2019. This is because the initial conditions that existed in 2014 when they first decamped to APC are no longer there again. In 2014 they came from a position of strength but in 2018 that position has been depleted. Furthermore a state by state analysis shows that apart from Kwara state where everybody seem to align with Saraki's Political position every other state involved in this political gamble have diverse interest at stake. Besides some of their so called members are nobodies in their state. In North West for instance Zamfara, Jigawa, Kebbi, Kastina doesn't seem to agree with them. In the case of Sokoto, Wammako is seriously watching Tambuwal moves to counter, Elrufai has its eyes on Shehu Sani and co while Ganduje is seriously waiting for Kwankwaso to do the finale battlel. In North East, Boronu, Bauchi, Yobe, Gombe are safe for PMB especially going from past election result. Atiku and Bindow will slug it out in Adamawa while Mama will battle Isahaku in Taraba. |
The Director General of the Buhari Support Group Centre (BSGC), Alhaji Umaru Dembo, has said the formation R-APC will not diminish Buhari’s popularity. “APC wish them a happy birthday…No one can start a party today and make any impact as none of them can reach where they are in a new political party within the Nigerian context, we shall see as the next general election is coming soon,” he said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/-r-apc-won-t-make-impact-259475.html DO YOU AGREE? kahal29: More comments Pls |

The new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) bloc in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the purported defection of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as fallacy and figment of the author’s imagination. The leader of the group, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, stated this in his reaction to the purported defection of the former Kano State governor to PDP. Baraje said nPDP would soon adopt a new name, adding that the bloc remains intact. He maintained that the group would make public its position on the continued membership of APC on Thursday or Friday. He said Kwankwaso played active roles in the decisions of nPDP and would continue to play such roles as a key leader of the group. “We are all still in APC but the nPDP will come up with a lot of changes. nPDP is likely to change its name as a splinter group from APC,” he added. http://thenationonlineng.net/kwankwasos-defection-to-pdp-a-fallacy-npdp/ |
By Aminu Baba..... APC should be wary of these traitors who stayed behind. They are more dangerous than those who decamped without qualms. They hate the party but yet have no better alternative machinery for returning in 2019. We must never repeat the mistake of returning these group of rancorous legislators who have nothing better than to sabotage the good programs of Buhari for this country |
**** Boasts Kwankwaso will lose election in his Kano ward Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Sunday described his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as political lightweight who cannot win election in his ward and does not have what it takes to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari in the next election. Ganduje was responding to claim made earlier by Kwankwaso that he was capable of defeating Buhari in he next election if they handed him the PDP ticket. But Ganduje, in a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba and made available to Vanguard in Abuja, said Kwankwaso had since lost political relevance in Kano politics and was merely flouting and day-dreaming about his assumed popularity. The governor also said that Kwankwaso had since become “a political fugitive who does not have the platform, the intellectual capability and mental ability to manage the affairs of Nigeria.” Ganduje said, ”Senator Kwankwaso’s latest utterances have confirmed the fact that he is now a confused politician who is grabbing every opportunity to relaunch himself back into relevance. “For over three years, he has been sleeping in the Senate without sponsoring even a bill that will positively impact on the lives of Nigerians. This is a clear indication that he has nothing to offer. He is just being boastful. “For over three years, Kwankwaso has been in the Senate, he has not visited Kano Central, his senatorial district. He has not executed any tangible constituency project for his people. “Since then, he has not been around and we have been here in Kano playing the game of politics the way it should be done. The good people of Kano are appreciating our modest achievements and they have expressed confidence in us.” “Senator Kwankwaso’s dream to get the PDP presidential ticket remains a tall one that can never see the light of the day because those he is going to meet there are familiar with his antics. They have not forgotten in a hurry the role he played in destroying the same PDP. “I am surprised that Kwankawso is now talking about people like Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, a man he persecuted and betrayed in many occasions. I am surprised he is talking about the PDP, a party he destroyed and betrayed many of the chieftains who are still there today to pay him back with his own coin.” Ganduje insisted that Kwankwaso is no longer relevant in Kano politics, pointing out that all his political structure had been completely dismantled adding, “Those who know him will understand that he is overrating himself and cannot be seen as a major contender in the 2019 presidential election. He is a usurper who wants power by all means. Here in Kano, the support for President Buhari and the APC is non-negotiable.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/07/2019-dont-takes-beat-buhari-rule-nigeria-gov-ganduje-blasts-kwankwaso/ |
Afenifere chieftain, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, yesterday urged leaders of the socio-political organisation to avoid former President Olusegunn Obasanjo. He noted that the former President’s agenda was at variance with the objectives of the Pan-Yoruba group. The elder statesman said Obasanjo was seeking relevance, having outlived his political usefulness, adding that it is time for him to really go on political retirement. Fasanmi, who spoke on phone, objected to the invitation extended to Afenifere by the former President to team up with him in his plot to frustrate the second term ambition of President Muhammadu Buhari. Warning the group to beware of the antics of the General, the Afenifere chieftain recalled that Obasanjo once cajoled the group in 2003 to support his second term ambition, only to turn his back against the organisation after his victory. He frowned at the disposition of Obasanjo to Yoruba affairs, regretting that he once described the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawle (MKO) Abiola as “not the messiah we want”. Fasanmi doubted if Afenifere would embrace Obasanjo with open hands, recalling that one of its leaders described the former President as evil in his book. He said if a section of Afenifere decided to team up with Obasanjo for next year’s elections, it would create fresh divisions in the larger fold. Fasanmi said: “As far as I am concerned, Obasanjo has become a spent force. He wants to be recognised as the one directing the affairs of the nation at every stage: from the time he was military Head of State, civilian President, through (the late President Umaru Musa) Yar’Adua’s time to (former President Goodluck) Jonathan’s period. He has the feeling that he knows it all. “I cannot recognise any invitation from Obasanjo. He described Abiola as not the messiah we were looking up to. Is Obasanjo the messiah now? I think he should retire. I know Obasanjo well. He cannot enjoy my support.” The former Federal legislator advised Yoruba to be steadfast and support President Buhari in next year’s poll. Urging the Afenifere leader, Chief Rueben Fasoranti and Ayo Adebanjo to ignore Obasanjo’s antics, Fsanmi said the former President was trying to sow new seeds of discord in the group. He added: “Fasoranti and Adebanjo are my good friends. We were in the Jos convention of the Action Group (AG) together. We were followers of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Obasanjo is not sincere. We should not allow Obasanjo’s politics to divide us. “We should be careful about Obasanjo. I have my reservations about him. Yoruba must come together, but not behind Obasanjo; Obasanjo can’t lead us. He was a minister, military Head of State and civilian President. The honour that was conferred on Abiola by President Buhari should have been done by Obasanjo. He did not do it. “We thank President Buhari for doing this. We should support him and not Obasanjo’s agenda. Obasanjo should go into retirement. He only wants to be seen and heard.” Fasanmi also lauded the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the success of its national convention. He said: “Contrary to expectations that things would fall apart at the convention because of the rancour that attended the earlier congresses at the ward, local government and state levels. There was also the issue of the complaints by the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) members that had dominated the media for some time. “So, all eyes were on the party last Saturday as it went into the convention. But the leaders were able to manage these issues maturely and the convention ended well. This is highly commendable. “President Buhari, APC governors, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and some other leaders of the party particularly deserve commendation for displaying sagacity in successfully managing those tough issues. It is hoped that the party will build on this feat as it faces the 2019 elections.” Senator Fasanmi also congratulated Adams Oshiomhole, saying: “The ‘no losers’ attitude of the chairmain (Oshiomhole) is the way to go.” http://thenationonlineng.net/fasanmi-to-afenifere-ignore-obasanjo/ |
The immediate past governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has explained that he deliberately avoided the APC national convention held on Saturday and Sunday to avoid breakdown of law and order. Mr. Kwankwaso said he and his supporters intended to attend the convention but did not due to the APC leadership of John Odigie-Oyegun refusing to recognise the congresses that favoured his loyalists at the state, local government and wards in Kano. The senator gave his stance in a statement sent to PREMIUM TIMES, which he also circulated on his Twitter handle. “I wish to inform the leadership of the party and the general public that we had wanted to be part of the National Convention but regrettably all the congresses that we conducted at the wards, Local Government Councils and at the State level were not recognized by the outgoing National Executive Council of the party. “Therefore, I felt that presenting ourselves at such an important event will not be in the overall interest of the entire convention that is assuming we are allowed access into the convention ground. “Because there are high chances that our presence could create embarrassments and a lot of friction similar or even worse than what occurred in the pavilions of delegations from Imo and Delta States during yesterday’s convention. However, as the new EXCO settles to start the efforts of uniting the party we wish you the very best,” he said. The senator congratulated the newly elected national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomole, and others who emerged leaders of the party. Mr Kwankwaso has been locked in a fierce political confrontation with the current Kano governor, Umar Ganduje. Over the past two years, several attacks and reprisal attacks between the supporters of the two politicians have been reported. Both men are members of the APC and the incumbent was Mr Kwankwaso’s deputy when the senator was governor of the state, the most populous in Northern Nigeria. However, after the ward and state congresses of the party, the APC headquarters recognised the Kano APC loyal to the governor. Mr Kwankwaso is a member of the nPDP, a faction within the APC that has alleged marginalisation. Many of them, including Senate President Bukola Saraki, have pledged loyalty to the APC in the past; but some are expected to leave the ruling party in the build up to the 2019 elections. On Saturday, rather than attend the APC convention, Mr Kwankwaso visited former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a chieftain of the PDP and presidential aspirant, at his Asokoro, Abuja residence. Mr Kwankwaso is also believed to nurse a presidential ambition, although he is yet to formally declare. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/273669-why-i-avoided-apc-convention-kwankwaso.html
