Morn ...my quest for nailing Hot Bird came to a haltreet as I thought it may need a bigger dish as from 5M upwards to try an get the 40dbw beam that covers Middle East plus pan dishes have low efficiencies going down to 60% ...this means underutillised dish...

More to that getting a 380cm offset will push the efficiency to 70-75% and adding a subreflector to the system will kick it to 85% to max....fingers crossed

you are right!I think you may need something more than 5m prime focus dish for Hotbird! if I may predict @my location and from what I got from 13east! I need at least 4m dish for full Hotbird signals!since Hotbird 13D is a bit weaker!while 13C is stronger and 13B weak but a little bit stronger than 13D...

talking of offset dish with sub reflector! It will give more
efficiency than normally dish though dish should be designed for sub reflector! Like few weeks ago I used a flat surface that covers the center hole of my 1.8m as sub-reflector on my 80cm dish with my sky mini dish lnb! Dish pointed at 36east lnb faced reversed pointing at sub-reflector I hit 36east signal...that is satellite signal will hit the dish..and reflects to the subreflector and to lnb!if dish is designed for sub reflector! I would have got more gain from the dish!

thanks oga odilibe and all.since hotbird is 80% scramble and since i dont deal with the darkside .i think i should focus on nilesat 7° west.where i can get more free to air channels.i hope they have alot of english channels.gurus in d house ur advice is needed.thank and GOD bless u all

..Yeah nilesat is the better option for fta!as usual you will get MBC movie package on 7west, some English channels like city7tv,CNN,pressTV,france24,BBC,aljazeera news,I FILM,bloomberg TV,mtv music mid-english!sometimes al oula under mbc package does English programmes, other transponder hosting nageo channel,gear one,Dubai sports 4 Arab! On 12226v27500 Are weak but it will be stronger when it will move to nilesat 201!if you have good 3m dish better still 3.2m or above you can point dish @7.3west and also focus on 7west to receive 12418H27500 ON eutelsat@7.3W for b4u movies( subtitled) ZEE living entertainment English! B4u India! Etc or 7.3west 12111H27500 Oman tv / Oman sports Hd

...from that your your location and for better reception you need!3.4m dish for Hotbird!easy TPs to receive are 11334(arqiva)/11804 (rai)/11355(sky Italia)/11747(du)/11373(mediaset)/11727/11766(rai)/11526(SRG SSR!open with key)/11488/12224/11317!
Hotbird track frequency is 11334H! other sky Italia transponders except 11355V are hard to receive! And 80% of Hotbird channels are scrambled and less of english channels!

seems like pauxis is no where to be found! haven been looking for the pauxis 0.1lnb!To compare it with my current MTI high line ak54xt2n lnb! ;lol
Here is a quick review and final test results between inverto black ultra quad, digisat quad! Premium HD single lnb for who needs it!..and compared results with Mti high line lnb! On 80cm dish ws-6906 sat metre!on 36east!

12073=68%
11977=68%
11938=70%
12207=60%

digisat
12073=68%
11977=71%
11938=73%
12207=60%

inverto black ultra quad
12073=70%
11977=71%
11938=74%
12207=58%

compared above results with MTI highline previous test results
mti. High line ak54xt2n
12073=76%
11977=72%
11938=70%
12207=67%
As you can see from above frequencies!digisat quad lnb is good as it is better than premium HD lnb!while inverto is slightly better than digisat! Digisat is good alternative for inverto black where Mti ak54xt2n lnb..is a little weaker on 11938 though stronger on 12073 and 12207 to make it an undisputed champion!until then!

Nice question! the technical spec of Amos 5 claims 90cm dish for reception of C band coverage in lagos and Nigeria!@ some Ku band coverage reduced dish size of 50cm
But according to the sat owners!amos5 encountered some problems of the power system, which leads to it's inability to control some of the 8 engines! and this might lead to a reduced orbital life time!

if this is the case it may also affect the overall output of the sat!

eutelsat21b @ 21.6east wide beam!easy with 3m dish in Enugu!it's reception better than 7west!though the sat has not much tp or channels!

How did you managed to track europe C beam of 7east!The 7east europe C beam is ka band!while muvi TV is also on Europe c band beam!is same to say that you tracked 7east europe C beam with ka lnb! possibly you may have got muvi tv Ku band frequency!or do you have ka lnb..

@blexxonmak! I think you are a bit higher on Eirp values versus dish size! that is an Eirp value of 50dBW is just 60cm dish! while a 47dBW will be equal to 75m dish! while a decrease in (-)minus 3dBW is equal to an increase of 15cm dish at coverage zone!
Based on what you said, if Eirp is 3dBW less or 47dBW,the antenna diameter will need to increase by about 50dBW,the antenna diameter will need to increase by about 50% to 1.5meters!based on eirp vaue, this is not correct, for example nilesat 201 eirp is 50.1dBW at the edge about 47dBW which is equal to 75cm dish!if 47dBW or 3dBw less will result in increase of 50% to 1.5m dish like you said! that means ..fringe coverage in Nigeria will result in nothing less than 3m dish to track nilesat 7west in Nigeria!that means I will need 4.5m dish for 7west @ my location!lol

a guy use inverto to track eutelsat 2b @21.5e on a 90cm,yet i use strong lnb on a 90cm &1.8m all i get is 74-75 on signal strength no green

This is the tracking frequency! for eutelsat@21.6east fr/sr(11610H6200), a 75cm dish with a dvbs receiver will lock this TP, though don't expect any channel on this tp!for the rest of the channel on this sat! use bigger satellite dish 2.4-3m!while the MBC channels on this sat is MBC pro sports! on multi stream broadcast!the sat has nothing much to offer!

well if I could recall on 7west MTI highline quad lnb was better than inverto quad on frequency 12303H, 11766H,10992V and 11900V
On sat meter with mti highline lnb i could get upto 87% to 88% on tp 10992v while inverto was about 83 to 85%!though frequency 11766H was about 43% (which is equal to 62% on old strong receiver) MTI it beats inverto quad by 4% on BBC frequency on Jim7west!43% on 12303H With mti lnb, with inverto not upto 43%!though MTI lnb was a little bit down on 11938Vand 12284V, I didn't notice much difference with both lnbs on this frequency!cos of increase in signal on 11766H with MTI lnb I have to remove inverto quad lnb from the dish!though last time I checked 11766H on 7west has jumped to 46%!

The intelligent box may not allow you to use it!it only accepts few symbol rates 22000/27500/29500 so no feed haunting,the box will need NIT search to update channel list,that means if you have poor or no satellite signal from bad whether,there won't be any channel list!if you manually input frequency to scan channel,the box will scan channel,but you may not see any channel list,if you are connected to 28east!the box will use NIT to update channel list, since you don't have sky+ subscription, the box is now good for freesat @28east and you may need a bigger antenna for this !since you are not connected to internet and no sky+ subscription some features will not work,you cannot record any programme and fast forward and rewind buttons will not function!the box can only be good for astra free to view UK!

last time I checked 3m was not doing well on badr in Onitsha/Enugu!anybody else can have a different view!east may require 3.5m to 4m dish!for badr; 4/5/6!

..yeah! the lnb is in the UK!but I am in naija at the moment! I will find out if any family member is coming down within short period to bring it down here!...then I will order the lnb! post to my address in UK..at least that will save cost! (transport)I will let you know within 2days!

It would have been better, if we have your own benchmark of some of the local lnb,or which is better among some of the lnbs you have listed above! digisat lnb is also good on fringe sat! having used digisat twin and quad lnb, I found the lnb having same gain with premium X single output lnb!

Invacom is not on the league table!Inverto black ultra series is no doubts the best lnb in europe according to German magazine sat vision,below is their lnb benchmark..

where inverto 8 output octo lnb having benchmark of 95.9%
I have tested Mti highline ak54xt2n lnb..and found it better than inverto black ultra quad especially on Horizontal transponders!
For now Mti highline ak54xt2n quad is best lnb from my own experience!having power consumption = 250mA and 70db gain noise, figure of 0.2dB

Next lnb to be tested is inverto octo 8 output lnb! having benchmark of 95.9%

Never heard of xcruiser lol!smart lnb and smart titanium lnb is also good!but If you are to use those lnb(s) on your 2.4m offset antenna, You need a Ku lnb feed horn to match the dish!cos those lnbf are designed for small offset antenna! otherwise they will under-perform on dish upto 2.4m offset dish!in that case modify their feed horn to improve signal!

You mean to say horizontal. The manual that came with the dish says 110cm, then the manufacturer must be wrong too.

"to determine the focal length of an offset dish"..the width,height and depth are not negligible! where the horizontal/width diameter is the actual dish size,in a standard offset dish!the height is taller than the width!unlike my sky mini dish where the width is taller than the height making it an oval dish!where an lnb placed on offset position on a standard offset dish sees a circular dish! for more info follow link below!

my fence is not tall,and were am mounting it is 260cm from fence if not more than,and guys extending the pole will cost me 5k the pipe use is very big

I could get signal from Intelsat 14@45west close to a fence! and 68.5east close to one storey building at the backyard with 80cm dish!where dish height is almost same level with the fence and a bit away from the fence!
