obnelly: Signal update on the home made dish , dlee the focal point fall at 65cm .the exact point in the picture after playing with the lnb I wa able to improve more on my signal eutelsat 36 now 74%, astra 75%, nss7 70%,, w3c signal is ok too.may be when the cloud is clear will try more sat.

OBNELLY well-done once again.I am not surprised that your focal point/feed is far away From the dish at prime focus position.looking at pics it appeared that you built a shallow dish,practically the deeper the dish the closer the feed assembly/focal point is to the center of dish and less f/d ratio or gain.The shallow the dish the further away the feed assembly is to the center of the dish the greater the f/d ratio or gain..apart from errors you may be close to or at correct focal point.

BUGS12: @ihacked, so what you mean is that, if a satellite is at 42.5e, it means the satellites orbital position in the sky is also 42.5e in the east.

Don't be this funny. that is what it means 42.e is the satellite longitude in orbit,the only thing that varies is the angle of elevation and azimuth of an earth satellite antenna pointing at the same satellite in orbit as per different region or countries ,i.e the angle of elevation and azimuth of different regions changes.

Bugs1234: @all, nigcomsat is located at the west, it is very bright and visible here in naija, just go outside and look at the sky in the west here in naija and u will see it shinning so bright like a star.

@LOVALA,lol i did not motorize my dish i am using 80cm dish with a 0.1db 6 degree monoblock ku lnb,with the lnb satellites that is 6 degree apart can be received on one dish that is astra 1=19.2degrees,hotbird=13degrees by calculation 19.2-13=6.2 approximately 6degree apart, it is dark now i would have post the pics of my set-up 80 cm dish/monoblock lnb, as for the window at right of the pics that is posted that is packages that my receiver can open. .but here is a picture of a 6degree monoblock lnb.

Loss during the day around 11 am to 5 pm and why do we gain signal from8pm till yhe following morning on fringe reception signal like nilesat hotbird astra and co.using pan dishes? Effects. Of temperature changes on lnb performance( thermodynamics) i think.what is your view?

11am to 5pm;the effect is from an increase in noise power/interference due to the sun's radiation degrading satellite signals,radiation from the sun is a combination of electromagnetic waves ranging from infrared and ultraviolet rays etc, radiation from the sun is active @11am to 5pm and even more active @/from 1pm to 3pm this is the worse time to track nilesat. at 8pm till morning warmer temperature could have an effect on satellite signals.

All the same ses 4/nss14 will replace nss7 at 22deg west, enabling nss7 to move to a new orbital position, it seems like west-africa beam has been extended down to zambia,kenya,congo,tanzania ,this will allow canalsat to extended coverage, however this satellite won't make much difference. on the other hand it seems like south africa KU beam was ommited on SES 4 unlike NSS7 .

yesterday night when PHCN brought light my srt 699XII power plug was connected to my extension, as soon as plug in my extension cable to d wall socket mehn i heard a funny sound(more like a spark). now my decoder refuses to ON, i guess power section in my decoder is burnt, but i'll be taking it to an electrician. am saying this so that if you are one of those like me who careless when nepa takes light and you refuse to unplug your power cable of your receiver, then you will learn the hard way, thank you.

Unplugging electrical equipments when their is power failure/outage by PHCN, is not a precaution to avoid electrical appliances been damaged by high voltage.Get yourself a good automatic electrical voltage stabilizer. your receiver has been hit by high voltage.

do your receiver and tv has HDMI port, if it does then use the HDMI Port/cable for audio and video.

@odilibe thor5/6 ku are not available here in nigeria, intel10-02 also u can only get the cband here, so the sat that are available are sirius4, atlantic b@5w, so wich sat will i use now @the top of arc to get the sat that are out or the arc.

use atlantic-bird 3,but to achieve this your dish should be able to bend sideways to the left when it is facing west or bend sideways at the left when you stand at the back of the dish on atlantic-bird 3 @ 5west and  when moved to 0 degrees it should bend  sideways to the left when standing at east.if you are already receiving sirius 4 at4.8east,atlantic-bird 5 @ 5west,nilesat @ 7west,then you are already receiving satellites that are not on the same arc.

@people, why are you forcing Cband LNBs mearnt for 1.8m to 3m prime focus dishes on 90cm offset dishes? is it to save cost or space? Discussions on this subject on other forums indicates that this approach usually catches the strongest transponders and misses the rest.

lol is it it against the rule to use 90cm dish/C-band lnb to track a C-band satellites , there are specially made conical scaler ring for C-band lnb on offset antenna, that will even produce more signal. actually some C-band satellites recommended dish sizes as per eirp level are below 110CM dish .i am referring to amos 5 @ 17east C-band its recommended dish size is 90cm for ghana /nigeria/zambia, arabsat 5a @ 30.5east recommended dish size for ghana and nigeria=100cm,zambia=90cm,nss12 @57east west hemisphere nigeria and ghana =110cm and a dish size below stated can still give good result . it all depends on EIRP level/recommended dish size of a particular C-band satellite

*Check arabsat 5a @ 30.5east C-band, for rtm laayoune frequency 4015 R symbol rate 2220, you have converted C-band frequency to the ku band*

@George-d and odilibe pls i need ur explanation on this, sat alignment says nile sat is 262.416 of azimuth, w4/7 is230.149 and intel7/10 is 120.532 azimuth now all this are not thesame azimuth how did a motorised dish manage to get all this sat when moving the dish in elevation alone, as i understand rotation of the dish on the pole clockwise is call azimuth. Pls kindly sheld more explanation this pls.

Azimuth and elevation of a particular satellite on the same orbital angle differs from different location,lyngsat claims that the azimuth and elevation of nilesat at my location is azimuth=189.4 degrees while elevation=30.5 degrees,  w4/7 137.7 degrees and 22.3degrees while intelsat 10 @68.5 azimuth =107.5degrees and  elevation=4.7degrees,all satellites are position in orbit in form of an arc otherwise there will be no need for motorised system,since azimuth is the side movement left or right while elevation is upwards or downwards movement. [b]how do a motorised dish manage to get all this  sat when moving the dish in elevation alone  [/b]for example  eutelsat w4 is at the left of intelsat 7/10 when standing at the front of a satellite dish at your location,thistwo  satellites seems not to be on the same arc and elevation, now this is how a properly aligned motorised satellite dish with a polar mount  track all available satellite on different arc and elevation,align your satellite antenna to be vertical on a polar mount bracket, track thor 5/6/intelsat @ 1degrees west with available frequency, using it as reference adjust the polar mount bracket to bend sideways to  allow the satellite antenna to bend few degrees sideways to the left( due south) when looking at the dish from east.now move motor towards east, as you are moving your motorised dish you will be able to track all satellite at the left of intelsat 7/10 at east since you now have two tracking angles.

@George,odilibe, how do we measure the azimuth and elevation angle of a dish ? Is there any equipment needed to use to make sure if they are in correct degrees. Secondly is azimuth is the side elevation off a dish, do we need to measure with tape starting 4rm level ground or how do we go about this pls explain. Thanks

adex70,george d has explained but all this equipment are just to make work easy not necessarily for one who knows how to track a dish ,on the other hand you can usually measure elevation based on the degree markings on the back bracket of a dish  antenna,some  satellites antennas has the elevation angle marked  already by the manufaturer, i use a 30cm dish with elevation angle marked . 
azimuth=left or right position
elevation=up or down  position

Is eutelsat 3c 3.1'E different from eutelsat w3c on 16'E cos I scanned w3c 16'E but aljazeera did not come up. Is it ku or c band and what is  the dish size to hunt the bird.

"the eutelsat 3c @ 3.1east was the old atlantic-bird 4a previously located at 7degrees west ,it is now moved to 3.1 east , with europe beam, previously atlantic -bird 4a satellite signals was very weak in west africa compared to nilesat 101/102 @7west, its footprint extended further  to cover more  european countries . Eutelsat 3c @ 3.1east not same as eutelsat w3c @16east

you can track both intelsat 68.5east Ku and C-band at the same position using C/KU band 2 in 1 lnb combo.Multi tv is at 28.2east ,standing at the back of the dish ,intelsat @ 68.5east is at the left of astra /multi tv @ 28.2 east. slowly move dish   to your left hand side,then downwards towards 68.5east, move dish at the left side, up and down respectively.

@All, I have a question to the Gurus on the C-band LNBF. What baffles me is how to put the teflon for circular signals. Inside the throat of the LNBF you will notice that there are two probes which are the antenas. On the walls you will notice that are are two pairs of grooves for the teflon, which means there are two ways of putting the teflon. One way puts both probes on one side and the other puts one probe on each side of the teflon. When do you put the teflon one way and not the other?

The teflon is for circular polarity,putting it either ways in the lnb ,will give you circular polarity, the other way gives you more signal on the L/R circular polarity but block the signal on h/v linear polarity completely. You need to experiment on it

Nice question, i noticed that ka Band lnbs input frequencies range between 18.000GHZ-22.200GHZ  you can't input this ka frequency in a typical strong receivers etc, imagine eutelsat ka-sat @ 9east with this frequency 20185L . (www.lyngsat.com/eka.html) a universal ku lnb range between 10.700GHZ -12.750 a standard C-band lnb range between 3.400 GHZ-4.200GHZ. see a ka band lnb from norsat ,its input frequency  =18.200GHZ-19.200 GHZ ,not all receivers will accept this ka band frequency. As for L-band transponders it is used for digital audio broadcast and multi-media communication etc.For examlple refer to afristar @ 21 east,with L-band TP. (www.tracksat.com/satellite35.html)
