PoliticsAtiku-akpabio Pdp Ticket? by Oduok(op): 10:33pm On Nov 30, 2017
In 2015, while premuting possible contender against PMB for the office of the President, I saw Atiku-Akpabio. But by then Atiku and Akpabio weren't in the same party. So I was of the feeling that maybe Akpabio will join Atiku in APC. As events unfold now and Atiku is the one joining Akpabio in PDP it makes me to ask: could it be that Akpabio will run with Atiku come 2019?

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Jobless First Class Graduate Gets Instant Employment After PREMIUM TIMES Report by Oduok(m): 3:14pm On Nov 25, 2017
This doesn't seem to be the 'summon bonum' for a valectorian. I don't know how to put it. A 4.83 CGPA valectorian under an ideal situation should not be begging for job. She is supposed to have come up with a solution in her field. An idea that needed grooming. Now that she is employed that is end of her story. If care is not taken no one will ever hear about her after now. So you won't say I didn't congratulate her; let me say congratulations. But truth is employment is cheap. If all your toiling in making 4.83 was to get employment then something is wrong somewhere. The same employment people get with 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 etc. I really wish our contribution to the society should be proportionate with the height of our CGPA.

CareerRe: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by Oduok(m): 2:13am On Nov 22, 2017
OmaniPadmeHum:
Good evening.

I must say that you are really a go getter. I say this because you already know the way to go and you are striving to get all background necessities to start in the world of private consulting.

There are still some things remaining and you need to do them when you have the funds:

1. You need to register your company as cooperate member of professional bodies. e.g. ISPON, NES, SETPOM etc.

2. You need to register your company as a vendor or contractor with various companies. To do this, get their HSE Contacts there to give you guidance on how to go about it and the necessary documents you will be asked to present. e.g. CAC, HSE MS, Company Profile, HSE Policy etc.

3. If you seek contracts above 10 million naira or so, in the oil and gas industry you also have to register with NIPEX.

4. Get a good brand for your company. NOW PLEASE LISTEN UP. I WAS BORN AND RAISED A CHRISTIAN, BUT COMPANY NAMES LIKE GOD IS GOOD HSE NIGERIA will not cut it. If you name the top 1000 businesses world wide, I don't think you will see a God is Good whatever limited there. Please and please I hope your company has a good name and not one religio-sentimental thing? After the name comes the Logo. Get a good logo with good brand essence i.e. a Logo that is explainable from the color choice to the symbols or letters. A meaningful logo that in future you can put with pride on your company flyer, bill board, gift items, t-shirts, etc. If you see the shell logo, they needn't write the words there. Automatically you know it is shell. Do the same for your Logo.

5. Get to go to conferences and keep contacts of professionals in various companies. They will give you a host of information of upcoming contracts and their areas of need which you can provide services to fill. You need to know people. I recall telling someone why I have two phones. One is strictly business. The other friends/family etc. Pile up contacts as much as you can.

6. Prepare a good business card with your company Logo and where possible a company flyer which details/summarizes you company and its capabilities as a HSE Consulting firm. This is so that you can give out when necessary. To make business cards these days, 5 Thousand Naira will get you between 100 to 200 copies.

7. Get technical partnership with other HSE Consulting companies. You will need them and will form the basis of an MOU or contract when you are jointly executing a job.

8. Develop an online presence for your company. Does your company have a website yet? Does it have an official twitter account? How about LinkedIn account where you can connect to companies and professionals. And Instagram account? How about a Facebook account where you can post about trending stuff in HSE? I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL ACCOUT. I MEAN ONE WITH YOUR COMPANY NAME.

9. Learn the principles of entrepreneurship. If you don't have a contract directly, get technical partners that you can share with when they have. Learn to see opportunities. Learn to see where demand is greater than supply in the discipline and take opportunity of the situation. This should be rule number 1. YOU MUST HAVE AN EYE OF SPOTTING OPPURTUNITIES AND TAKING THEM.

10. After all the work, please pray to whatever you believe in to bless your works. Never relent. Never give in.
Thank you so much sir. This is what I really wanted to hear. I will act on it sir. Thanks a lot.

Congratulations on your height as a First Class graduate. I respect you a lot for this feat. Jobs are very very difficult to get. Especially if you are above 25. However your First Class will give you an advantage in lecturing career. Hustle the more, set up coaching centre, volunteer to teach in Secondary School, raise some money and purchase Masters form. Commence your Masters and apply for graduate assistanceship position in universities. Being a Masters student will give you much advantage for Graduate Assistance role. Don't do PDE: 1. It would cost you up to N200,000 (form, fees, books, transport etc). Money that can handle a semester of your M.Sc. 2. You can't use PDE to do M.Ed. 3. With First Class you should look at a career in lecturing not secondary school teaching. Kids in secondary school care little about high scholarly wit. You are lucky to have graduated with First Class. It will soon pay off. Have you applied for Graduate Assistance position in the Nigerian Maritime University, Warri.

Congratulations to the would-be graduands and congratulations to NSChE branch of the school. My school, UNIUYO, took 3rd in the 2015 edition of the competition. Chemical Engineering design is a very hectic task especially for undergraduates. That is why I still hold in high esteem the students that represented us and the lecturer that supervised the work.

EducationRe: Hit Or Miss:see What A Student From Auchi Poly Student Innovated by Oduok(m): 1:18pm On Nov 12, 2017
Often times I see projects being put on display in nairaland for comments. We comment "hit or miss" merely because of the body work. If this is a scientific, technological or engineering work, then we can't conclude whether it's a hit or miss until we are able to find out what were the hypotheses, aims, and objectives of the work. Have they been achieved? What are the recommendations made for future work? Where is the engineering design? Or was the work designed at all? On the body work or finishing: I want to say that it is due to our backward knowledge of basic technology in secondary school. Under ideal condition, a JS 3 ceritificate holder was supposed to weld, fabricate, and polish better than an uneducated welder. Deficiency of this has led to the setback of our engineers who will come to shout, "it is not the work of engineers to do practicals" - a requirement we all were expected to meet before entering senior secondary school. Whoever knows the owner of this work should tell him that Nigerian government encourages innovations. When he is done with his schooling, let him put together his design philosophy and the objective of his work and forward it to Technology Incubation Centre, Ministry of Science and Technology, and other relevant bodies that will work on developing this prototype and scaling it up if viable. I have consulted for men who built miniature systems while in their undergraduate level but are now owning big firms with wide clientele.

OIL AND GAS
I have consulted for over 200 individuals that have built Petrol and LPG stations - for registration with DPR, EIA, Site Suitability Analysis, and Equipment Specification. It is really luctrative. They will keep coming for more after the first station. Fact is: the project is capital intensive. You will need not less than 2million naira for paperwork: DPR, EIA, Police Report, Fire Service Report, Engineering drawing, and Integrity Test of Equipment. The return on investment is really high.

Maritime Academy, Oron has every facility it takes to be uplifted to a Maritime University!!!

Mtcheeew!!! huh
I'm sure you are not a product of Maritime Academy, Oron. If you were you will see that the management of the school could be the once that opposed upgrade of the school. Many of them have qualifications below Ph.D but are gods there with high pay and position. Upgrade to university would mean downgrading them. A case in point is Petroleum Training Institute. Federal Government fought so hard to upgrade the school to Federal University of Petroleum Resources (PTDF released N10billion in 2008 for facility upgrade) but the management opposed conversion to university, opposed affiliation for the school to at least award degree. Highest government could do was to establish a Federal University of Petroleum Resources in the same local government.

YOUR BUSINESS WOULD NEED THESE SERVICES ...
For your company/business to run effectively, these are services that you need to seek:
1. Environmental Services: EIA, Site inspection and plan for projects, 2Km stretch map, and environmental evaluation.
2. Safety Services:HAZOP, HIRA, JSA, safety training/orientation, hazard assesment/risk evaluation.
3. Oil Servicing: coordinating of document for oil service registration with DPR, coordinating of document for registration of petrol stations, depots, LPG filling plants, and design/maintenance of downstream petroleum oil facilities.
4. Supply of chemical products: germicide, detergent, antiseptic, and disinfectants.
We have ten (10) years post petroleum training experience and inside knowledge from internship in the following establishments - Environmental Health Office, Department of Petroleum Resources, and Exxonmobil (Id Oduok, PTI ND, B.Eng, is the director, Odfid Technical services - 07037263653)

When you say UK SHE Organisation, it is quite vague and ambiguous at the same time.

The benefits of HSE Levels 1,2&3 have been greatly duscussed in this topic. Various explanations have been provided both from a regulatory and a skill/knowledge point of view.
So if you are interested in HSE, then that is the best way to start especially in Nigeria. Do your basic levels and keep developing yourself in this area. Then if you are interested try to get NEBOSH when you have the funds.
You are doing great work sir on this platform. I need advice though I don't know where to start from. But let me highlight my journey in HSE so you will know how to help. I have National Diploma in Industrial Safety and Environmental Engineering Technology from Petroleum Training Institute and a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering (both as best graduating student of the programmes). My passion in HSE is a burning one. I have always wanted to own a firm that provides quality HSE consulting services. After my PTI ND, before proceeding for my degree, I purchased membership form from ISPON/NISP, paid N20,000 for the form but was unable to submit it as my degree was competing with funds and time to do the course that was necessary for membership. I have also registered a firm with CAC with general nature of business being: Environmental Services, Fire & Safety Services, Oil Servicing. I have practical experience in HSE from internship that I did with Environmental Health Office, Department of Petroleum Resources, and Mobil Producing Nigeria. I have also done consulting services to oil service companies/petroleum (these were not major contracts; I got them from referals by DPR staff). Now i'm back from NYSC and want to fully maximize my potential in HSE consulting. I don't want the knowledge i've acquired from school and industry to be dormant. I have always wanted to consult for companies rather than working in a company. Please read through my journey and advice me. Thanks

I was a YES-P participant. Truth is, they were dishonest with us. That is just the summary of it all.
This summary and conclusion though. This is businessworld where nobody owes you any duty of "honesty". You have to be smart at all times to protect your interest - without being dishonest on your own part. I have seen things these few years in business. I always try not to be dishonest but I don't place any burden of honesty on people I deal with. Instead, I have my safeguard against dishonesty while transacting business in such a manner that my interest is not jeopardized. If you won't mind, i'd rather you ignore the dishonest part on the part of YES-P organizers and itemize the challenges you encountered so that we share in this forum and plan some safeguards.
