I think Yoruba has given niger Delta more freedom in Yoruba land than any other tribe

They should return all the lucrative lands they own in lagos
Last I checked apapa that's worth more than $35bn is largely owned by niger deltans
Guy, be guided in your utterances lest you sound like iporks who are fond of making wild claims. Dangote and Flour Mills of Nigeria are the two largest stakeholders at Apapa hence their willingness to voluntarily fix the dilapidated road the fg has long abandoned in that axis.

I think this excerpt from Baba Awo should be a common knowledge for all Omo karo ojire. It was obvious that the Northerners and the Easterners deliberately conspired against Yorubas during the first republic because of our development and success. As God will have it, both of them got at each other starting with trigger happy Igbos young soldiers killing Hausa/Fulani leaders, and Northerners soldiers retaliating during the 2nd coup. Mind you, Yoruba leaders and soldiers were not spared during the 1st coup by the Igbos and 2nd coup by the Northerners. That's why I'm surprised when I see any Omoluabi begging for unity with these 2 tribes that hate us so much.
Kpom! I hope that boy will begin to receive sense sooner than later else their kind won't hesitate to support another declaration of a state of emergency in yorubaland again today as an excuse to promote their jaundiced narrative, as if we have had anything close to the bloodletting going on in Boko haram ravaged Borno that isn't under a state of emergency, or Kaduna and kano with their recurring ethno-religious crises.
CultureRe: Highlighting The Ethno-linguistic Groups that Make Up Akoko Ondo by ODVanguard:
pazienza:
Claiming Ife origin means nothing. Oral history in this part of the world are usually tainted to reflect present political realities.

Many communities in Akoko SE claim Ife origin, yet they all speak Edoid languages, from Isua to Ipe, Epinmi, Ipesi, Ifira, Sosan, they all speak Edoid languages as first languages and Yoruba as a second language.

From my encounter with these people , I believe they are Edo people who are suffering from inferiority complex and are striving too hard to become Yorubas when it's obvious they are Edo. They all claim to have migrated from Ife and that the current Edoid languages they speak was as a result of their interactions with Edo people during their journey From Ife to their current location.
Their identity crisis is reminiscent of those of Ika and other Bini origin claiming, but Igboid speaking Igbo communities.

The entire Akoko SE is Edoid, and have no reason being part of Ondo.
But the people are currently Yorubaphilic and Edophobic, and are currently striving hard to kill off their indigenous Edoid languages and replace them with Yoruba languages.
They had already done this with their names, as most of them now bear Yoruba surnames and first names, Edoid names are becoming a rarity amongst these Edoid speaking people.
It's truly amazing.
Guy, why are you like this?? Pesin talk say his ancestors originate from Ile-Ife, and you are arguing with the person that you know better, abeg what is your own? The Ga-Adangbe tribe (aboriginal people of Accra, Ghana) and Ewe folks of Volta-Region of Ghana also claim to have originated from Ile-Ife, and yet do not speak Yoruba as first or second language today, so will you also call them liars or tell us that their claims are due to 'present political realities'? Abeg omo yigbo wetin consign you for this matter? Na wah for you o.

Agreed, but why was it the west of the 4 regions we had at the time, that got embroiled in such political turmoil as to get a state of emergence from an ordinary abokkki

My late grandfather almost lost his life in the crisis. He had already been daubed with petrol before...
I'll say it again that you're arguing from a position of ignorance. I'll allow Awo himself to respond to your 'why the West of the 4 Regions' question coz even he didn't feel the state of emergency was justified, considering that other regions also had their own fair share of crises yet the central government didn't deem it fit to declare a state of emergency in any of those hotspots. Read it slowly and hopefully your ignorance would be cured once and for all.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/07/awos-reply-state-emergency-1962/

Awo's Reply to the State of Emergency in 1962:

(Excerpts)

“The first question which any reasonable person ought to ask himself is this. Is there a state of emergency in the Western Region? That is the most important question which the Prime Minister and the Cabinet must ask themselves. I submit with greater respect that a state of emergency does not exist in Western Nigeria. “Not long ago after independence, there was rioting of a most severe nature in the Tiv Division of Northern Nigeria.

Several lives were lost, several properties were destroyed, there was arson and a host other crimes were committed. At that time, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was the Prime Minister as he is the Prime Minister, today. He did not think it fit to call this Parliament to declare a state of emergency in the Northern Region.

Also in Okrika- there was widespread rioting in Okrika; again, several lives and properties were lost. I understand that this widespread rioting in Okrika occurred twice in the Eastern Region. The Prime Minister and the Cabinet did not think it fit on that occasion to declare a state of public emergency in the Eastern Region.

“But, because the Action Group is pursuing the normal democratic processes as laid down in our Constitution to oust someone who happens to be very close friend of the Prime Minister, and also because the Action Group is looked upon as a moral foe to the N.P.C., this very far-reaching provision of our Constitution is now being invoked, only in respect of what might be described as squabbles inside the Chamber of the Western House of Assembly. It is doing violence to our Constitution and doing violence to the construction of words to suggest that what happened in the Western House of Assembly amounts to a state of public emergency.

Awwww

You are mixing things up.

The west was so enveloped in political crisis that Tafa Balewa had to declare a state of emergency in the SW.

That was before Nzeogwu struck.
Dude, with all due respect, you're in no position to lecture me about the politics of that era. You're the one confusing issues. Tafawa Balewa DID NOT tamper with the Regional/Parliamentary system that he was a part of at the time, the 'Khaki boys' did that by truncating the parliamentary system and introducing the unitary one we still have till today. The state of emergency (which was declared by Tafawa Balewa in May of 1962) only lasted for less than a year. Akintola was Premier till he was murdered in January 1966, long after the state of Emergency had been lifted. You're the confused one, guy. If the Western Region had been allowed to resolve its own internal problems (as it was already on the path of doing), perhaps this country wouldn't be in this shyt of a mess it is currently in. Yoruba people had already isolated SLA and by then he was already amenable to a political solution to his problems with the Awo camp.

Buhari's supporters went on a rampage killing folks in parts of the North some years back just coz he lost an election to GEJ, yet no state of emergency was declared in the affected states (more lives were lost during those riots than happened during the Awo/Akintola crisis), neither did anyone overthrow GEJ's government as a result.

Quit trying to justify the unjustifiable (the Nzeogwu coup) just coz you're trying to make a stupid point that is meant to suggest that Yorubas are incapable of ruling themselves owing to some internal political issues they had in the past. I guess your type are one of those that would rather be in servitude to other ethnicities owing to your inferiority complex that makes you feel you must be ruled over by others, else you won't be suggesting that such a great race as the Yorubas are incapable of ruling themselves. You're arguing from a position of abysmal ignorance.

Unity begging?

Come on, stop sounding like the flatiyeasterners.

Nigeria belongs to us.

Nobody is holding us down.

We once had Western Region. You know how it ended.

Awolowo and Akintola tore the West apart.
Guy, you are on your own with this your unity begging. Gbabeski. FYI, Western Region wouldn't have 'ended' (as you put it) if Nzeogwu and his boys didn't execute their coup! Yorubas didn't end the Western Region, the murderous and ill-advised coupists did that. Who's to say that the Yoruba folks would not have found an internal solution to their own problems back then if the coup hadn't taken place? They had already expressed their rejection of Akintola in very clear terms. Go back and read the history of that era. Right before the January '66 coup, Akintola was already isolated by the majority of the Westerners, and was as a matter of fact open to a political solution that was to involve the release of Awo from prison in order to douse the political upheaval that his tenure had generated. Akintola was already prepared to make concessions to the Awo camp before the coupists cut short his life and that of other victims of that putsch. You are obviously ignorant else you won't even bring up such a lame and jaundiced p.o.v.

Do you expect someone like him to know that having a Yoruba country doesn't necessarily mean that we can't have diplomatic relationship with other countries? Many of the Yoruba businesses on this thread have companies located in other countries.

No country stands alone. Having a Yoruba country simply means that we have all rights to govern and develop ourselves at our own pace. i.e Yorubas can emphasis on tourism, cultural exploration, natural resource exploration etc.

Hate is a strong word, it's a feeling I don't like entertaining. But....If na say I hate pesin, na unity begging Yorubas who are so ignorant of Yoruba success and commonwealth. Everything falls back on Nigeria's dilapidated education system.

Nigga is even quoting kiriji war...... o ma se. Are y'all still living in stoneages?
My sis, the truth is that Nigeria is only living on borrowed time, either way we want to look at it. It's like asking why the need for this particular thread afterall, if we can't live without one another? This thread is a reinforcement of our SEPARATE IDENTITY compared to the Igbos. History and the Nigerian experiment has shown that we can't live together in the same country with them -- not that we haven't tried anyway, but their domineering tendencies will never allow us be at peace with one another. We will definitely make better neighbours as separate countries coz then there'll be no need to chest-beat or heat up the polity over who rules over whom, and we'll respect each other's boundaries, something that WILL NEVER happen within 'One Nigeria', no matter the 'restructuring' -- as it stands, if all igbos decide to relocate to the SW, we Yorubas can't do shyt about it all in the name of 'One Nigeria'.

But as separate countries we'll both respect ourselves and our boundaries and will be free to deport any troublemaker in our midst without having to apologize for sending their destitutes littering our region back to Anambra or wherever they may come from.

The 'Big Three' tribes will always be at each other's throat trying to dominate one another. Nigeria has proved since independence that we all can't live as a nation. #Fact. This parasitic relationship that currently exists is not sustainable, and will only continue to breed hatred and animousity.

Yorubas are an homogeneous group of people with contiguous borders and a common origin (ile-ife). No such commonality exists amongst the 'Nigerians', which is why Nigeria has been finding it extremely difficult to truly unite as there are no real ties that bind us. All Yorubas share culture, food, dressing, language, etc in common. Again, I emphasize that such commonality and homogeneity doesn't exist amongst Nigerians in general and that's why there can't be any real unity.

This unity begging from some of our folks is just too embarrassing please. Let's even pretend, for the sake of pride, that we too can stand on our own if need be abeg. Or must the rest of Nigeria kick us out before we grow some pride as a people??

There are so many factors to consider.

Do you think an independent Yorubaland will be politically stable enough to attain it's full potential?
Gosh, did you just ask this?? Is Nigeria after all these years politically stable? This is unity begging at its worst form. It's like saying Yorubas can't live without Igbo's or Hausas. It's this sort of embarassing unity begging that makes us butt of jokes. There are many Yoruba enterpreneurs that are doing great in Ghana as well as other neighboring countries without qualms, so who says we can't be good neighbours with the others while doing business with one another?

The entire population of Kenya (East Africa's largest economy) is barely 40-million and yet it's doing great, even though their economy is only barely the size of Lagos (that doesn't even include the rest of the SW).

Even the Northerners have said they are not afraid to stand alone so why this unity begging for goodness sakes??

We still need one Nigeria though.

Our companies, organisations and interests are doing well all over the country except maybe in iboland.
Restructuring is only a worst case scenario option for us in my opinion. Ideally we ought to be an independent/sovereign country. Yoruba's are too big not to have their own country. In fact it's tantamount to an insult to suggest that a people numbering as much as over 40-million can't stand alone.

We can have good neighbourly relationships with other neighbouring countries and ethnicities. As a matter of fact we would fare better that way coz then we will be able to control our own borders and resources too. One Nigeria is holding us back from attaining our full potentials as a people. We shouldn't have to depend on permission from Abuja or some other place to get things done as is currently obtainable.

So much so that you can quite easily access, compile or put together their company profiles as well as the profiles of the individuals behind them by doing a simple online search about them.
