You maybe right about the position of towns like Obosi, Ogidi, Ogbunike, Oba etc, but I must tell you the utmost truth those towns are a part of greater Onitsha metropolis. It is a tag they have to live with by their mere proximity to Onitsha. If all the entire metropolis is put into consideration as it were then I can assure you that Onitsha would just make this list like a walk-in-the-park.

That's often how big cities are made; by merging together big towns in close proximity, or by forcing smaller towns to empty into the biggest one around.

Onitsha represent to the SE what Lagos and PH represent to the SW and SS respectively. Onitsha is not all about commerce, there are industries, blue-collar and white collar jobs. The economy of the city is mixed and diverse. As for the IGR status, though Anambra did not release that of the 2016, but the rough estimate put the state's IGR at over 24B, the highest in the SE.

Look chino, i think the problem with Onitsha is that it's just not a big enough market. The likes of Obosi are still having a hard time accepting the tag of being regarded as part of the greater city, hence limiting and denying Onitsha of its place as a large enough market to be contended with. Onitsha as presently constituted is too small, that's the truth.

Take it easy and learn to view issues from different dimensions. Aba and Onitsha are distributor markets and not consumer markets and in truth they are the largest markets in Nigeria. This report is not about the largest distributor markets but consumption or end user.

I think this counsel and perspective should be directed at those that tout those markets as their sole arguement in support of their inclusion as high consumption cities, as they're the ones arguing for their inclusion. That explains why even Enugu has a higher purchasing power than either Onitsha or Aba even. Obviously that image of Onitsha and Aba being consumer markets is a deceptive one that is most often being pushed by their indigenes. Na them make you direct am at.

Guy… your argument does not hold water. If you had said that perhaps Anambra and Abia had been understating their igr figures fir the past couple of years perhaps then you would have had a case. But to connect high igr to bailout funds? Come on… you can do better than that. Enugu for instance had been the undispited SE state with the highest igr for many consecutive years even before any single bailout was doled out. How do you explain that, compared to relatively underperformin market states like Anambra and Abia? Even Ebonyi posted a higher igr than Anambra about two years or so ago. Your argument no make brain jor.

I can't argue with you but it is a very big insult to compare Edo market with any Eastern markets, the biggest market in Edo is ringroad and new Benin market, the two market put together is not equal to the smallest market in Onitsha.

Dude, the problem with some of you is that you base a lot of your arguments on your supposed economic superiority on wild assumptions that can't be backed by credible data or the reality on the ground. The data I attached in my earlier post came from the telecoms companies (atleast you can't argue that they're biased or compromised on ethnic grounds). It clearly suggests that there are more people in Edo with phonelines, whom are also spending more money to purchase data subscriptions, than any SE state. That's raw data right there. These are some of the data that investors consult before making decisions concerning FDI into Nigeria, in order to ascertain purchasing power.

Obviously, those much-touted 'markets' at Onitsha and Aba aren't amounting to much in terms of economic output coz even Enugu that isn't known for any major markets has consistently posted higher IGR numbers than both Anambra and Abia. So perhaps it's about time you lot quit basing your supposed economic strength on those overhyped markets. Anambra didn't even post any IGR data from last year, yet it expects to be taken seriously?? This isn't about chest-beating but data.

Lagos:

The economic and commercial strengths of this coastal city have been the topic of major fora and conference, both within and outside the country. It has a projected population of over 25 million people.
Lagos is the fifth largest economy in Africa and second largest metropolitan city in Nigeria. In the last few years, the city has been the major destination of foreign capital inflows (FCI) into Nigeria, accounting for over 95% of all FCI in Nigeria.
Recent statistics also show that Lagos has the most value tech ecosystem in Africa, alongside the presence of major markets satisfying the need of many neighbouring countries.

Also in the city is the Lekki Free Trade Zone, which at present has over 120 FDIs operating and undergoing development within the zone.
The Neighbouring state of Ogun has also benefitted from the positive externalities of Lagos in terms development of many suburban cities such as Mowe, Ibafo, Agbara among others.
Based on this fact, entrepreneurs can be best assured that their businesses and products have a high rate of survival if sited in the city.

For the Benefit of Doubt , Lagos is not my Only Base, i have travelled all the 36 states of Nigeria including Abuja the FCT, I have travelled almost all the Local Governments in the South West , North West and the North East , I have bases in Lagos , Abuja and PH , i dont want to start mentioning my bases elsewhere .
