Actually the incident is very very unfortunate.Am also disturbed by the nature of comments from nairalanders on the issue and the handling of the investigation by the Nigerian Police.Is it that that organization is cursed.As an adult am into disaster/emergency mgt and also way back used to help my mum in her kindergarten school take care of kids.So from an angle can speak distinctively on two sides.Disasters both man-made and natural are bound to happen every second,it is an event that is part of human existence. Unfourtunately we in this part of the world dont really see disaster management as a big deal,even with this eye opener most organizations would not still see it as a priority to invest in disaster management.We seemly in this part of the world invest so much on building fabulous business and empires and never invest minimally in securing the vital interests of these businesses and organizations most especially when they are used to serve public interests.The tolling costs involved because of sheer negligence is crippling as we can see.What ordinarily could have been prevented ,then damage minimized if the worst come to the worst.A majority are blaming the 9 year old kid ,the mother and claiming it is a conspiracy, they have forgotten that place is a public place and not a restricted area/zone.When i was younger my parents used to take us to Leventis and Kingsway supermarts stores even though our parents bought limited stuffs for us we had the right to go round the different sections to check out stuff. my mum only used to warn us against shoplifting and did her best to monitor us to a degree.Then most especially not to play with the shops facilities. but we as kids still had our way.The major fault is the negligence of the organization for them to be selling fitted gas appliances knowing fully well the consequences.The supermarket i buy stuffs from also sells gas but in a restricted area different entirely from the main supermarket. And they adhere to safety precautions perimeter fencing of the sell area with fire extinguishers and all. Then the main section is manned by staff who direct you ,supervise and assist you on the stuff you to procure. it was later i got to understand the reason for the employment of extra human eyes and hands.Because i could imagine the payroll incurred by the organization monthly.But as we can see it is far worth it.Then i would ask what is the essence of installing CCTV ,most organizations in this part of the world do it out of pressure and formality.All CCTVs are supposed to be manned by human eyes and also to record events that transpired.But in this part of the world it is to record daily events and reviewed if only a case like this comes up.Nobody would tell the owner of the SSA that the super TV CEO got murderd to install a CCTV.The police arrested ther owner because of that lapse alone,how can they have such a volatile public institution and not install a CCTV.Most of these that contributed to the posts have already greatly outlined the grievous security lapses.My grouse is the crucifying of the minor as if a majority did not do worse child plays when her age.As for the Nigerian Police a majority of the contributors stated a basic fact the police acted very unprofessional,the interrogator gave a great outline of the operations of the force.He has further dented the crippled image of the force and should be sacked.

the OP is not wrong years back i had a near encounter with a full grown leopard in my village in Edo north (Sabo-Ora). infact as God did it there was a witness. i was coming from a village ( Eme) next to mine in the night. i was being carried on a bike on a lonely forest route.As we were on topspeed with headlights a leopard dashed across,we saw it clearly,the headlights dazed its eyes which glowed. infact the bike guy attempted to run it over because it was to real to be true. it was a scary experience for life.it was there i believed we still have wild animals lurking in the forest

We woke up just day before yesterday to learn the transformer serving our locality (Sabo-Ora in Owan-West LGA of Edo State) was vandalized and the armour cables stolen away.Right now thousands of houses and households are in total darkness.What wickedness of the highest order.I was taken aback that such primitive crime is still in vogue,because i remember such incidents were a common place years back.Right now we are in a fix and the next measure is to contribute by household or else we should forget about light till next year.Does anybody have an idea of the current market price of these cables.

How come the ones that steal transformer cables in edo state are never caught. i just paided a visit to my home town Sabo-ora in owan-west LGA. Only for us to be blackout we learnt overnight our transformer was vandalized and armoured cables stolen. i learnt they had visited another such transformer four times in a row. presently we are in blackout (ABOUT 5000 Houses are in darkness) and it might take up to six months for them to be replaced. i happened on a visit sometime ago to benin saw a transformer that was tied round with juju to deter vandals. the harm these vandals do is far from terrible. how i wish in the future a vandal is caught in my presence I SUPPORT JUNGLE JUSTICE.

Before Super Chidinma began to trend with the murder of Michael Atiga,much earlier in the year (6 months ago to be precise)another Chidinma a corper serving in Uyo was entangled in a related hook up case of murder of her male companion one Japhet.He also suffered far more brutal wounds hacking to be precise.With little chance of him escaping ,it seems he was also druged .Because it is still a mystery how a grown up man would allow himself to be mauled in such a dastardly manner and would not defend himself in anyway by a frail looking girl of the same age range .The corper chidinma was never given a chance to state her own side of the story as the police spoke on hehalf claiming self defence on an allerged rape attempt.It seems that because the victim is poor and not of a wealth to do family ,there is no member of his family to speak on his behalf on what really transpired between him as the corper chidinma. Till date 6 months after the incident nothing has been heard of the case,the corper chidinma has not been taken to court,whether she has been released nobody knows. the police have kept mum over the matter, just as the General public.When the case was about a month old,a story came up that the case is being trucated so as to make the general public forget about the case.The question is why was the corper chidinma not paraded and interviewed like her counterpart the super chidinma.there seems to be some reason behind it .
