To be brief, similar to posters story, I made very unwise financial choices ranging from paycheck to paycheck living, frivolous spending with gambling sprinkled all on top. I do believe I learned my lesson, I am making changes and hope others learn from my earlier mistakes.

Moral of the story? The best approach to money is to see it as an ends to a means, not the end goal otherwise you can end up in similar situations when life throws you inevitable financial/economic troubles or worse. Multiples sources of income + savings/investments is the best solutions. Income producing assets also helps.

I wish I knew this when I was late teens/early twenty when I was OK financially unlike today.

I fully support this (along with marijuana decriminalization but that's a story for another day). Aside from exporting and the money that brings, this could create a tourism avenue also if done right. If you are into investing, this could reap some very good rewards. I just hope the right hands/heads are involved.

Can a Yoruba get a job in Borno though with the NGO? I've been trying for over a year and had no luck whatsoever. Despite the situation, would not mind living/working in NE. Plus it's on my bucket list to learn the Hausa language.

I can't talk for other places in Nigeria, but from what i've seen in Lagos I would say yes. Anybody who has at least one source of income (let's say NGN150,000 net monthly the minimum) that allows them to save/invest, keep roof over head, pay for living costs (and dependencies to an extent) and enjoyment through the twelve months of the year to me is middle class in my own opinion.

Nigeria is not an easy country to quantify in such terms. For instance, I watched a Youtube Video featuring this African American guy whose market angle is on African Americans retruning to Africa. He says he likes Nigeria but he does not really. In any case, one of his trips to Africa was to Ivory Coast where he travelled to a home he considered example of the kind of lifestyle African Americans could expect if only they but travelled to Africa. Well, it surprised me (meaning I wasn’t impressed, sorry). In Nigeria, a cousin of mine who regularly complains of poverty, lives in a 18-bedroom house, all rooms En-suite. All floors of the house Italian marble. Home is well-furnished in combination of local carved furniture and western ones. They have TV and computers, American style fridge and while they don’t eat yoghurts and hams they eat beans, yams plantains, gari, pounded yams, fist, fruits indomi, bread, ovaltin, biscuits, soups, Adidi, portage, crabs and the rest of the stuff Nigerians generally eat now and then or often. He is unemployed and earns by renting, running a small church and Keke. We have offered to sponsor him to come abroad but he refuses. In the area he lives in Warri Delta, he couldn’t in truth be considered upper class or even middle class nor could he be considered poor. He does not own a car but majority of his mates own cars. These people couldn’t be classified upper class. Nigeria is not an easy place to quantify. With Nigeria, it is best to employ the term Relative.

This is all well and good but please government apply maintenance culture to this and Nigerians let's treat buses like it's our personal property.

Op, take the chance on the 50k job and do your best to make it work/progress. Just because the job pays 50k today doesn't necessarily mean it will pay you 50k in the next year or two. Who knows this could be where you kickstart career, make good earnings, meet the one person who changes your life forever directly/indirectly etc etc. Go for it and all the best.

I recently applied for a role with this organisation, but have an interview...saturday morning for 8:00AM. Does that seem legit or should I not attend?

Two piece suit, shirt & tie, black socks and polished black shoes. I'm guessing you are a male so make sure night before your hair/beard are trimmed neatly. No earrings, tattoos and/or loud watches on show. To finish off, if money for taxi to take you there is available take taxi as this will keep you fresh and clean en route as public transport doesn't like keeping you fresh and clean en route.

In my honest opinion op, stay in Nigeria and work hard/smart to make your OWN situation better. I don't trust who is guiding you to Canada and would hate to hear you were sold a pipe dream. Looking at Canadian Dollar v Naira, yes you might make more money in Canada (and Obodo Oyinbo to a greater extent) but your cost of living will increase drastically (higher tax rate, monthly rent) which doesn't necessarily mean higher quality of life. Also cold weather will affect your health. Unless you NEVER want to come back, you'll have to look out for your people back home which is extra pressure. One more thing, I don't know how important it is to you but your culture could die with you once you leave the shores and "coming back home" may be very tricky.

in relation to your children, all I would say is that education does not guarantee/equate to success, whether they are in Nigeria or Canada.

This is just my opinion, ultimately the choice is yours. You already see the pros, my purpose here is to provide the cons.
