The Oba of Benin even invited both candidates and made them promise to be peaceful. The Oba of Benin defended both candidates when he felt they were treated unfairly:
1) in support of my uncle Godwin Obaseki the Oba said "Godfatherism is not acceptable in Edo state" at a time when my uncle was in a very bad political situation.
2) In support of Ize Iyamu, the Oba of Benin called upon my uncle and his deputy to shun violence.

It is only biafra-propaganda and the fools who listen to it who believe the Oba of Benin sided with Ize Iyamu, eventhough the Oba of Benin said before, during and after the elections that he were neutral and even insisted that Ize Iyamu should quash his lawsuit against my uncle (Godwin Obaseki) because the people had spoken.
