PoliticsBuhari Jets To London With Diezani On Board by olatade(op): 9:42am On May 22, 2015
Embattled Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, today booked herself on a British Airways flight to London with Nigeria’s President-Elect, Muhammad Buhari, who sources claimed was on an scheduled trip.
Diezani had been billed to travel to the UK next week Tuesday according to a source, however upon learning that Buhari was traveling to London, she asked the airline to book her on the same flight as Buhari so that she could have a chance to discuss directly with the President-Elect. The British Airways flight departed Abuja this morning at 9:00am Nigerian time.

Several aides and close associates of Buhari said they were surprised to learn of the trip since they were with him till 7PM last night shortly after he arrived from his hometown, Duara.

A family source told SaharaReporters that Buhari was traveling to London for the weekend and is expected back in Nigeria on Tuesday in time for the swearing in ceremonies.

PoliticsHow First Lady ‘influenced Rivers Governorship Poll For Wike’ by olatade(op): 6:24am On Apr 14, 2015
Fresh facts emerged yesterday in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital,on how  President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife, Dame Patience, influenced the April 11 governorship election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)standard bearer, Nyesom Wike.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the poll’s results at about 4am yesterday. Wike polled 1,029,102 to beat the Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 124,896 votes.

A source revealed that Mrs. Jonathan, an indigene of Okrika, the headquarters of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, took undue advantage of her husband’s position to undermine the electoral process in Rivers State.

President Jonathan voted in his Otuoke country home in Bayelsa State without the First Lady. He arrived at his polling unit where he voted at the State Assembly election in the company of his mother, Eunice.

Mrs. Jonathan has relocated to Okrika in the evening of April 10 to ensure victory for her political godson and former education minister.

According to the source, President Jonathan was opposed to proposals to manipulate the process to pave the way for Wike’s victory, a position the source alleged, never went well with the First Lady.

An unconfirmed source said the First Lady was unhappy that the President conceded defeat after losing the March 28 election to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the APC without putting up a fight.

It was learnt that the First Lady decided to sacrifice her vote in Otuoke for the trip to Okrika to see Wike to victory.

Dame Jonathan allegedly summoned the leadership of the Rivers State Police obtained commitment from the police to support her in the manipulation of the electoral process in favour of the PDP.

The officers and men of the Command assured the First Lady of their support, a source claimed.

When the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 6, Calabar, Tunde Ogunsakin, an ex-Rivers Commissioner of Police, who supervises Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Ebonyi States, arrested a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) with electoral materials in Rivers, the First Lady immediately intervened by calling his husband.

The source disclosed that President Jonathan quickly got across to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, and directed him to order Ogunsakin out of Rivers State. The AIG returned to his Calabar base at about 5am on April 11.

Efforts to get the First Lady’s reaction proved abortive as calls made to her Glo line were unanswered as at press time.

The Rivers PDP governorship candidate and his allies are also panicking over the likely cancellation of the polls in the state.

One of Wike’s close associates sent a text message to a frontline journalist in Port Harcourt to know if there was a move by the INEC headquarters in Abuja to cancel the flawed elections and fix a new date for a rerun.

The Rivers Chairman of the APC, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, also decried the senseless killing of 19 members of his party on Saturday. He pushed the polls cancellation.

Ikanya, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Media and Public Affairs, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, described the governorship and House of Assembly elections and the announcement of fake results as tragedy.

The Rivers APC chairman said: “What took place was a macabre dance of intimidation and violence, perpetrated against the peace-loving APC members, after which results were written in favour of Chief Nyesom Wike of the PDP. It is evident that the announcement of winners for the polls is a travesty of justice and a rape of democracy.

“We insist that the purported governorship and House of Assembly elections be cancelled in their totality and a new date set for proper polls, as prescribed by law. We hope that INEC will enforce the rights of Rivers people to free, fair and credible elections, by heeding the clarion call.”

Ikanya also stated that many eligible voters were disenfranchised, as all hell was let loose throughout the state.

He accused the state chapter of the PDP of mobilising militants, who went on rampage, shooting, bombing and killing, killing no fewer than 19 APC members.

He noted that the victims were attempting to prevent the rigging plot of the PDP, in conjunction with INEC and some policemen, led by a deputy commissioner of police.

Ikanya said: “Rivers APC declares unequivocally that the elections were fraught with violence, unbridled manipulation and intimidation, while no voting took place in most parts of Rivers State.

“At Tai Local Government Area, Lekia Nkirine was shot dead, while Gbaraka Nna was shot on the neck. A PDP chieftain in the area, bought the guns, while another PDP chieftain fired the shot.

(Nkenya listed the suspected killers.)

“In Buguma, Asari-Toru Local Government Area, seven APC members were killed, with three killed and thrown into the rivers and one beheaded. Two buses and INEC office were burnt, while the house of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Joeba West, was bombed. These exclude tens of buildings and cars that were destroyed.

“Three persons were killed at Etche Local Government Area. One was killed in Ikwerre Local Government Area. Two APC members were murdered at Egbeda Ward I of Emouha Local Government Area, while Hon. Chidi Lloyd, the leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, was beaten to a pulp, while attempting to prevent the rigging of the elections in his constituency.

“In Obga/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, there were at least five reported deaths, namely: Obinna Ndubuoke, Jeophat Kingdom, Ndidi Ebere, Sydney Wokocha and Hon. Clever Orukwowu (APC Youth Leader).”

Ikanya stated that among the persons injured by the blood-thirsty PDP thugs was; Evangelist Faith, who was beaten to a pulp at Dere in Andoni Local Government Area, with her whereabouts remaining unknown and Alifor Onyeso, who was shot by armed thugs, led by a lawmaker from Omuma constituency in the Rivers House of Assembly.

The APC chairman insisted that on April 11, in most parts of the state, voters were disenfranchised, intimidated and harassed, with outright manipulation of the already-announced results at the various units.

He said: “There was no election in Rivers State on April 11 and anyone who says otherwise is an enemy of this state. We had vigorously campaigned for the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Mrs. Gesila Khan, because of her well-known support for the PDP, but our cries were ignored.

“Now, what we feared has happened – even worse than we feared. We cannot in all honesty accept the results announced, either for the governorship or state’s House of Assembly elections.”

Ikanya pleaded with INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, to save Rivers State from doom, by cancelling the purported elections and rescheduling them.

PoliticsAnonymous INEC Staff Allege Akwa Ibom Presidential Election Result Was Bought By by olatade(op): 5:02pm On Apr 08, 2015
As of last Monday, five days to the governorship and State Assembly election when the petition itself was being written, the group said, “The Original Copies of the Results Sheets for the April 11th, 2015 elections have been handed over to the Governor to perfect yet another plan of rigging the elections.” They therefore Professor Jega to postpone Saturday’s governorship and State Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom as there is a looming clash between the major parties which may culminate in bloodshed and loss of life.

Full text of the petition:

6 April 2015

Prof. Attahiru JegaNational ChairmanIndependent National Electoral Commission, Abuja

Dear Sir,

PETITION AGAINST GOVERNOR GODSWILL OBOT AKPABIO, CON AND HIS COHORTS ON THE CONDUCT OF THE MARCH 28,2015 PRESIDENTIAL AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONSIN AKWA IBOM STATE

We wish to express our profound gratitude to you on the way you conducted the Presidential and National Assembly Elections held on 28th March, 2015. This goes to attest to the fact that you meant well for Nigeria and Nigerians when you promised to give the people the best in the 2015 elections.

1. However, despite your consistent warnings against fraudulent practices during the elections, Akwa Ibom State Governor, in connivance/collaboration with the State PDP Chairman, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, and, indeed, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) staff notably, the Electoral Officers, SPOs and Ad-Hoc Staff who, probably may not have been those employed and trained by your INEC, but employed by the State Government (Cultists/Thugs armed to their teeth), perpetrated fraud in a magnitude that was unimaginable, hence this petition.

2. i) That the Resident Electoral Commissioner collected from the Governor of the State a whopping amount of N2.5 billion, a Prado Jeep and other items and specifically instructed the Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, CON to sit in the office and write the election results without sending any materials(sensitive materials) to the respective Units and Local Government Areas.

ii) Sensing that this plan would definitely arouse the curiosity of the major stakeholders in the State, both opted for the second option. It is a known fact that before 28th March, 2015 elections, the sensitive materials, notably, the Original Result Sheets meant for the State were handed over to the Governor by the Resident Electoral Commissioner for completion at the Governor's House, to be announced by the Commissioner - a practice which is not in conformity with the laid down procedures of conducting, collating, compiling and announcing of results.

iii) That as a matter of policy by INEC to deploy all male indigenous Electoral Officers to other areas, leaving behind female indigenous Electoral Officers was a misguided policy and should be revisedimmediately for the sake of the 11th April elections in Akwa Ibom State in particular. It may interest you to know that the female indigenous Electoral Officers left in State are even worst than their male counterparts.

iv) That materials were not sent to so many areas in the State considered to be the strongholds of opposition parties like APC, Labour Party, Accord Party, etc. and where such materials were sent it was accompanied with photocopies of the Result Sheets, some areas, none at all thereby leading to beating up the Original Ad-hoc Staff employed by INEC resulting in inflicting serious wounds on them. It would also interest you to know that many Ad-hocstaff, including Corpers deployed to the Units died in the event as they were seriously manhandled by the electorates.

v) That the materials, instead of being sent to the Polling Units, were sent to the houses of some notable PDP Stalwarts by the Electoral Officers at the instance/instruction of the Resident ElectoralCommissioner, the Governor and the Commissioner of Police. These materials were duly escorted by the Police to the respective residences of the Party Stalwarts as indicated below:

(a) In Oron axis, all the materials were escorted to the residence of Mrs. Akon Eyakenyi (Hon. Minister of Lands and Housing) along Secretariat Road, Oron. Princess Felicia Bassey's residence along Uyo-Oron Road (PDP House of Assembly Candidate).
(b) The materials meant for Uyo were escorted by the Police and diverted to Mr. Enobong Uwah's residence (a serving Commissioner in the State)
(c) In Ibiono Ibom/Itu Local Government Areas, materials were diverted (escorted) to Mr. Bassey Albert Akpan's residence (Uyo Senatorial District Candidate for PDP).
(d) Materials meant for Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, Obot Akara were escorted by the Police and diverted to Governor Godswill Akpabio's residence in Ukana.
(e) Materials meant for Nsit Ubium Local Government Area were diverted to Senator Effiong Bob's residence.
(f) Materials for Abak axis were escorted and diverted to Mr. Aniekan Umanah's residence (a serving Commissioner in the State).
(g) Materials meant for Onna/Mkpat Enin Local Government Areas were diverted to Mr. Udom Emmanuel's residence (PDP Governorship Candidate). Materials meant for most LocalGovernment Areas were diverted to the houses of PDP Stakeholders in those areas.

3. You may agree with me that the elections in the State were marred with high frequency fraud.
vi) That members of the Civil Defence that were meant to oversee the conduct of the election became accomplice and some who could not concede to their antics were driven out of the premises where these materials were taken to.

NEW PLANS TOWARDS 11TH APRIL ELECTIONS

(i) That as I am writing to you now, the Original Copies of the Results Sheets for the April 11th, 2015 elections have been handed over to the Governor to perfect yet another plan of rigging the elections.
(ii) Plan to kill so many that would want to raise a voice against their planned action is in top gear.
(iii) Plans to reduce the materials meant for areas known to be the strongholds of opposition parties like APC, Labour, Accord Parties, etc. have been concluded and perfected by the ResidentElectoral Commission (REC) and Electoral Officers as series of meetings have been held in this regard.
(iv) Areas considered to be volatile during the elections, MUST not be given materials at all.

OUR PRAYERS

(1) That the Governorship election and House of Assembly election should be postponed as indices on ground posits that there would be a serious clash between PDP and other opposition parties which may culminate into loss of many lives and bloodshed.
(2) That the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State should be deployed and a new one who is corrupt-free be deployed to Akwa Ibom for the sake of this election of 11th April.
(3) That all the Electoral Officers in the State should be deployed to other States and fresh/new Electoral Officers deployed to the State for the purpose of 11th April, 2015 elections.
(4) That the Akwa Ibom people are aware of the antics of the current Resident Electoral Commissioner and are poised to set ablaze INEC Office. His safety, as a matter of fact, is not guaranteed.

Please Sir, act now and fast too, for 'a stitch in time saves nine.

Thank you.

Sincerely yours,

Signed:
Concerned Staff of INEC, Akwa Ibom State

PoliticsPanic In NNPC, Other Oil Agencies by olatade(op): 7:58am On Apr 04, 2015
•Jonathan’s administration begins reconciliation of crude oil records
•How Mandela predicted President-elect’s victory

The victory of General Muhammadu Buhari in the March 28 presidential election is already causing panic in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other Federal Government-owned companies in the oil/energy sector.
Officials of the companies, many of whom did not anticipate President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat, are now under pressure to bring their accounts and oil receipts up to date for presentation to the in-coming government.

Some of the information is even expected to be made available during the transitional period in the coming days.

President Jonathan yesterday kick-started the transition by meeting with General Buhari at the State House, Abuja, even as associates of the President-elect recalled how the late President Nelson Madela of South Africa predicted,12 years ago, that Buhari would one day return to lead Nigeria as a civilian president.

It was gathered that the outgoing administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has commenced the reconciliation of crude oil production records including royalties and other funds remitted into government accounts and taxes paid to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Government expects oil records to dominate discussion at the transition committee briefings since oil is Nigeria’s financial back bone. It is a familiar terrain for Buhari who was Commissioner (as the position was designated under the military) for Petroleum Resources in the 1970s.

Lately, public interest in the finances of the NNPC has soared, sparked by an allegation by the immediate past governor of the Central Bank (CBN), Mallam Lamido Sanusi that $20 billion of its funds was missing.

For instance, he told a Senate Committee hearing on the allegation that NNPC officials were withholding large amounts of money from crude oil exports from the Federation account.

He said that during the period 2012-2013, the NNPC sliced off 76% of crude oil proceeds – a total of N8 trillion ($48.9 billion).

Sanusi was later suspended and is now the Emir of Kano.

His predecessor at the CBN, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, said in a different allegation that about N30tr was either missing or unaccounted for by the Federal Government.

An audit report prepared by Price Water House Coopers on NNPC finances showed that less than $2 billion was missing.

Government asked the corporation to pay the money forthwith into its account.

An oil/gas sector source said yesterday that a major issue being addressed by the outgoing administration is how to put oil records in proper perspective because the new government will be interested.

“There is panic in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other subsidiaries on oil receipts,”the source said.

“Already, officials of some of these agencies have been working round the clock to reconcile oil records in order to be able to face the Buhari transition team.

“Some of these agencies might also meet with FIRS to make sure that the records tally. No one expected a Buhari presidency but it has now come. This requires working round the clock to give full account of oil production and revenue.”
Another source said: “Feelers indicate that Nigerians would want cogent explanation on the controversial $20 billion.

“So, the development in the oil sector is key to the work of the transition committee.”

Sources also said that some of the international oil companies (IOCs) are prepared to make their records available to Buhari.

“You can see that if any attempt is made to pad the records by any agency, the IOCs will not be part of it. This is why it is necessary for every official to be straightforward.

“Some of the IOCs are willing to release the records in their care to assist the government to put things in order in NNPC and other agencies.”

On Mandela’s prediction, Buhari’s associates said it had been a massive motivation all these years.
One of the associates said that shortly after losing the 2003 presidential poll to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, Mandela had a one-hour engagement on the phone with Buhari.

Mandela asked Buhari not to lose hope about ruling the country.

Mandela said: “I spent 27 years in jail and came out to become South Africa’s President. You can still be president.

“Since the election of Buhari, what Mandela said 12 years ago has been resuscitated. We were all excited when we saw a copy of the newspaper which reported Mandela’s advice to Buhari. Though he is dead, his prediction has come to pass.
“This has confirmed his sage status. His golden words were part of those behind the resilience of Buhari. We are hopeful that the President-elect will serve the nation like Mandela did because they share many things in common, especially selfless service.”
