The Communications Minister has directed Mobile Network Operators (MNO) to ensure that unused data and voice bundles purchased by their subscribers do not expire. Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the unused data must be rolled over to the next data purchased by subscribers. The letter addressed to the Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Mr Joe Anokye on Friday explained that the move is to minimise the negative impact of the current mode of deduction of the Communication Service Tax by the Telecommunication Companies. “CST should be treated the same way VAT, NHIL, GETFund levy and all other taxes and levies imposed on entities doing business in Ghana are treated…” “All unused data and voice bundles purchased by subscribers do not expire and must be rolled over with the next recharge,” the Minister urged. The letter copied to the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of MTN and Vodafone as well as the two Deputy Ministers of Communication, Mr George Nenyi Andah and Mr Vincent Sowah-Odotei comes on the back of Communication Service Tax which was increased from 6% to 9% effective October 1, 2019. Per this tax, every ¢1 of recharge data purchased, a 9% CST fee is deducted, leaving the consumer with ¢0.93 of the purchased data. This is wrong, the Ministry of Communication held in its release. According to the ministry, the “extraordinary upfront deduction of CST and notification of same to subscribers must stop with immediate effect.” https://www.scribd.com/document/429822005/Telcos-directed-to-stop-charging-9-Communication-Service-Tax-on-subscribers |

Auwal Mustapha Imam Posted: "My friend Usman Yusuf Abubakar battled with kidnappers some weeks ago along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari road. They were blocked, robbed and kidnapped. They were led into the forest by one kidnapper holding AK47 riffle while others stayed back to cart away their properties. In his car alone, the kidnappers took over N400,000, laptop, handsets, etc. On their way into the forest, Usman attacked the kidnapper, disarmed him and set the other captives free. He left the kidnapper down after he has beaten and injured him seriously with stone. He is later reported dead when negotiations were on to release a Pastor in their hand. They demanded that Usman should be handed over to them. Usman took away the kidnapper's gun and moved out of the forest. But on his way out, he dropped the gun somewhere in the forest for fear o been presumed kidnapper by the police or anybody. He met a police patrol vehicle immediately after coming out of the forest. He was taken to Kaduna and debriefed. He later led the police team to recover the gun he dropped, but I was no where to be found. In his bravery, Usman freed himself and many others. Sometimes, we need to display a little courage to set ourselves free from captivity since nobody would go to save anyone once taken. Some of these Fulani bandits and kidnapers are weak and malnourished. Their only power is the gun they are holding. May Allah continue to protect us. Amin." Copied from facdbook.
