The drug is to be tested on a total of 80 patients at Hadassah, Sourasky, Poriah Hospital in Tiberias and Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, together with researchers from Hebrew University. Israel is among the first countries to receive an experimental Japanese drug to treat coronavirus and is testing it at hospitals, the Foreign Ministry said Monday. Testing in China has found the flu medicine Avigan, produced by Japan’s Fujifilm Holding Corp., is helpful in treating COVID-19 in its early stages, shortening the time the patient is sick and preventing the illness from becoming more severe. Pro-Israel Americans warn Benny Gantz… Netanyahu, Gantz say talks will restart… Israel recently received a first shipment of the drug. That followed weeks of work by Ambassador to Japan Yaffa Ben-Ari; Prof. Ran Nir-Paz, an expert on infectious diseases at Hadassah-University Medical Center in Jerusalem; and Dr. Esti Sayag of Sourasky Medical Center’s Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv. The committee on clinical trials on humans met at Hadassah on Monday to review some promising drugs being tested on coronavirus patients and authorized experimenting with Avigan. It is to be tested on 80 patients at Hadassah, Sourasky, Baruch Padeh Medical Center in Poriya (near Tiberias) and Soroka-University Medical Center in Beersheba. Avigan, which was developed for influenza, is meant to shorten the duration of the illness and decrease the likelihood of other patients in the hospital catching coronavirus, Nir-Paz said. Latest articles from Jpost “The medicine is being used in the front lines of care in Japan,” he said. “The goal of Israeli research is to examine if the medicine is effective for this indication.” Avigan seems the most promising out of the drugs being tested for treating coronavirus patients in early days of the infection and can help flatten the curve of patients and allow hospitals to provide better care to those in worse condition, Sayag said. Foreign Minister Israel Katz praised the work of the embassy in Tokyo, the Foreign Ministry and Health Ministry for “successfully bringing this groundbreaking research to Israel.” “In this challenging time, the Foreign Ministry is on the front lines of the battle against coronavirus and is leading, together with other ministries, Israel’s efforts to find necessary medical supplies and medical solutions to the virus,” he said. Ben-Ari said she would continue working to get more doses of Avigan to Israel to help prevent infected people’s condition from deteriorating. She thanked Fujifilm for recognizing the high level of medical research conducted in Israel. Japan plans to stockpile two million doses of Avigan, up from its current level of 700,000, Japanese media reported Sunday. It also plans to prioritize the clinical-trial process of the drug so it can be formally approved to be used in treating coronavirus patients. https://m.jpost.com/Israel-News/Israel-among-first-to-try-experimental-Japanese-coronavirus-drug-623794?utm_source=jpost&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=boost&utm_content=04-06-20 |

You guys condemning the actions of the governor are extremely uninformed and don't know the consequences of the action if not taken sooner than later. Curfew for a few days is nothing compared to the catastrophic disaster the corona virus will bring upon us. This is no time for ignorance other than to face reality of what befalls us if we don't act fast. Developed countries such as italy and spain who can boast of some of the best healthcare system in world are be overwhelmed by huge numbers patients who have contacted the covid 19 virus, a very deadly and highly contagious virus. For example if i have the virus and come in contact with 10 people, there's a likelihood that 8 would be infected, and those 8 would also spread it to their families, friends and strangers they come in contact with, and then it becomes and an endless cycles. so it shouldn't be taken with levity. I'd rather go hungry during curfew than have a deadly virus killing people in their hundreds or thousands daily( as the case might be with our poor healthcare system in nigeria) |

The government has called on the military to help impose the lockdown ordered, for the safety of the people. The National Youth Service Corps has asked corps members currently in orientation camps across the country to vacate the camps over coronavirus fears. The virus has killed over 7000 persons globally and three cases have been confirmed in Nigeria, although no death has been recorded. The Guardian learned that the corps members in Lagos camp were told on Wednesday morning to leave the camp immediately after receiving their letters to their places of primary assignment and transport allowance. The camps opened last Tuesday and usually last for three weeks. “We were told the order to close the camp came from Abuja,” a corps member told The Guardian. https://m.guardian.ng/breakingnews/nysc-shuts-down-orientation-camps-over-coronavirus-fears/ |

MP. Health officials are now trying to trace where she contracted the virus and who she has been in contact with, she added. Six people have died in Britain from the virus, with more than 370 confirmed cases. Dorries, who helped craft the legislation to fight the bug, is the first British politician to be diagnosed with COVID-19. The Times reported that she had been in touch with hundreds of people, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson. She fell unwell on Friday while signing the document that declared coronavirus a notifiable disease, meaning companies could obtain insurance cover, said the paper, adding she was now believed to be on the road to recovery. “I would like to thank… the wonderful NHS staff who have provided me with advice and support,” she said, referring to Britain’s National Health Service. The shock news is likely to increase calls to suspend parliament, despite the government’s reluctance to do so in the middle of a health crisis. Her boss Matt Hancock, who is leading Britain’s response, tweeted that he was “sorry to hear Nadine has tested positive for coronavirus. She has done the right thing by self isolating at home, and both NHS and PHE staff have been brilliant. We all wish her well as she recovers,” he added. PHE refers to Public Health England. He is expected to give the state-run National Health Service whatever it needs to help combat the virus and promise temporary support for businesses hit by cash flow issues. The Bank of England’s incoming chief Andrew Bailey last week said UK-based companies would need help in the face of disruption to supplies caused by the virus. Budget airlines Ryanair and EasyJet said they will cancel all Italian flights until early April after the government ordered the entire country locked down because of the virus, leaving thousands of people unable to return home. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/breaking-nasarawa-relocates-emir-sanusi-to-awe.html |
This nonsense has to stop. Why would the police be so debased down to this level. Only in nigeria sha |
Have you ever noticed that it is the people that are too careful or too fearful in life that often die before their time? Why don't people spend their time thinking more or focus more on the positive things of life rather than on the negative? There was a time we all heard of SARS, HIV AIDS, BIRD FLU and EBOLA and all that stuff were all on the media then and it put a whole lot of fear in people. But we don't hear much of those things again. Now it's CORONAVIRUS. Listen very carefully, If you are too conscious of CORONA VIRUS, you will have it. It's that simple. That's why the law of attraction states that whatever you focus on, think about, read about, and talk about intensely, you’re going to attract more of into your life.” |
