In terms of actually getting admission to a Uni, the UK is by far easier. If you don’t have at least a 2.1, getting on to a masters course in Canada can be tricky. In terms of the visa application itself, the UK is also generally easier in terms of have the cash in your account or your parent’s account, have an unconditional offer and you’re most of the way there. The main thing I think Canada has over the UK in terms of the application process is you can use a third party as a sponsor. Note that, as per your question, I am only talking about academics here and not post study visas or route to citizenship. Canada beats the UK there hands down. Hebraeem: Good morning guys not to derail the thread but to resolve an argument, between Canada and UK which is more easier to navigate in terms of Msc. for immigration purpose as an IT student? |

Have you done any research at all? Tuition fees per year at a relatively cheap Uni will set you back around £12k a year. That’s N7.3m. Undergrad courses are three years long but if you’re able to transfer, you might be able to start in second year. Still, you’d need 14m for tuition alone. Even if you plan to live with family which I assume is the case since you say food and accommodation are sorted, you would still need to show UKVI that you have the funds available to you (living expenses £11,385 + tuition for one year.....so about £23,500 sha). TheGodlessGod: how much is enough?? including tuition and all
I must leave this Nigeria. |

Oh the 5m includes tuition Short answer, definitely not! TheGodlessGod: I tried reading it and it's really confusing.
I don't even know what's cas and it's documents.
I just need to know how much is required from a student here in nigeria to study in uk(london).
I've 5 million naira as budget a for the tuition fee, passport and visa etc .food housingehousing yare already taken care of.
Will that be enough? |

Contact Unis yourself. Universities deal with this differently. You’d need detailed results to date (similar to a transcript) and it’d have to be for the exact same course (or similar). TheGodlessGod: How can I tranfereed from a Nigerian university to study in the UK??
Please expert help me. |

5m naira is about £8,300 today. Divide that by 36 months, £230. That’s not a lot in London even if you don’t have to pay for accommodation as transport costs alone can chop most of that. TheGodlessGod: I meant london.
Is 5 million naira enough to study for 3 years? That's minus housing and taxes |

Nothing to worry about. As long as there’s nothing dodgy and you have followed the guidelines, you’ll be fine. Joseph1960: Thank you for applying for a UK visa. Your visa application has been received and is under consideration. We aim to process non settlement applications within 15 working days (unless you have opted for the Priority Visa service), and settlement applications within 60 working days.
Unfortunately, the processing of your application has not been straightforward and we will be unable to decide your application within our customer service targets. We are continuing to work on your application and aim to make a decision as soon as possible.
We will write to you again if there is any change to this. Please do not attend the Visa Application Centre until you have been advised that your application has been decided and that your passport is ready for collection.
Kind Regards,

I don’t think you need to renew your Naija licence to get an international licence. Donracy: So I need to get International drivers license in Nigeria after renewing my license in order to be able to drive in the UK with the License? |
|
Travel › Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by Oloshi83: 8:45pm On Aug 30, 2020 |
I don’t believe this is true. The licence itself doesn’t have anything to do with how many lessons you need to do but because you can already drive, you wouldn’t need to do as many lessons as a new learner would. So download the theory app and start practicing for that before you land. When you arrive, apply for your provisional licence and then start driving lessons. I’d say do a lot of research online especially for the bad habits (which is easy to pick up in Naija) and then you may be able to get away with only doing only a few lessons but only your instructor would be able to give you an exact number. You can get an international licence in Naija but that would only be valid for a year here and you’d still need to do a test to get a full UK licence anyway (for which I would advise you do at least a couple of lessons - for reasons mentioned earlier - even though you are not required to) so the former is the better option in my view. Donracy: @Mimilyrics @duchess @Skymoore @Justwise and all with relevant knowledge.
Is it true that if you have a valid Nigeria Drivers license it will help you to get UK drivers license by shortening the driving courses you are supposed to go for?
If Yes, my Nigeria drivers license have three names on it while my other documents have 4 names. Please will this be a problem if present it as a proof of driving experience?
My drivers license just expired and I want to renew it. But your responses would be the determining factor
Waiting for your prompt responses
Thanks |

Just put 4-6 weeks from the date of your application. You can’t travel without a visa anyway so even if the date isn’t feasible, everyone knows and understands why. It’s really not a big issue. I have helped a couple of people with applications and they both put mid August based on their resumption dates and they got their visas last week (end of August). Fwaz: Thanks duchess90... My main concern is that my course will be starting 7 September, even if I said I will arrive UK by 5th or 6th September, the chances of getting a visa before those dates is only when I opt for priority or super priority.. I read somewhere that UKVI will be considerate due to pandemic. I will be starting the course online so I thought maybe I can choose a date after the course start date and go with standard visa. Do you think the ECO will have any doubt? Please do you suggest I stick to a date before the course start date? What if I indicate that I'm starting the course online and I choose to arrive UK after a month?
NOTE: getting a biometric date is another thing on its own.maybe that's why the latest resumption date was extended till February.i read here that walk in isn't available in some Visa centers |

Best to renew it now in Naija. If for nothing else, because it is a pain in the backside to do it in the UK. Mikeval001: I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend. Can a passport that will expire in less than 6 month be use to apply for visa? His passport will expire April 2020 and he is going for February admission intake.

As long as your first name and surname are the same/appear on all documents, you’re fine. bodyco: Your opinion is needed. I have three names on my bank account statement, two names on my passport and then two names likely on my CAS which is yet to come, my TB cert also has two names. Although I have been advised to get an affidavit, I'm worried if it will suffice. However, I have the opportunity of renewing my passport which expires in less than 6months and get the name reconciled. But the challenge also would be to amend my TB cert. What should I do. No. You have to have been resident in the UK for three consecutive years to qualify as a home student + have full citizenship and not just a settlement visa (by which I assume you mean limited leave to remain and not ILR). Lol I don’t work in HR so wetin be my own. But the company is on the UKVI’s list to sponsor visas and definitely sponsors international students + inter company transfers (to/from other countries). I started my career working for a much smaller company, a bespoke consultancy and they offered to sponsor my visa straight out of Uni (I declined and did SEGS then moved to HSMP) and again, they are on the UKVI’s list too. Although the visa sponsorship thing has changed significantly since my time, it is possible to get a sponsored job and the main reason I responded to your message was the point about Russel Group Unis. If people have ~£30k to spend on tuition only, by all means, go to a top Uni. The impact Brexit and the current climate will have on all of this remains to be seen but na so life be. Slimmzyy: Great insight and thank you for the write up!
I can tell you currently work in the UK and you have an understanding of how the system works and going by statistics over the years, you can tell the % of international students that were able to secure a Tier 2 visa and the Uni they attended.
Those bosses of yours are either British/EU or people with indefinite leave to remain, I had an interview long time ago and the hiring manager said to me I never went to Uni but I'm sure you learnt about fixed income in Uni, so I fully understand what you are saying.
But our focus is on students from Nigeria, with a student visa and possibly PGW, to give yourself the best chance you really need to stand tall in all areas for a company to think they are willing to sponsor and going to a top school is one of those areas.
Since you work in a multinational company, it would be nice to tell everyone on this platform, how many international students you company has hired and sponsored since you joined them? |

Thank you for that last bit. I was about to come at you with all guns blazing. Private equity is one small bit of one industry. I know people in investment banking that started their careers in Lagos after Uni in Naija. One worked in Zenith Bank for years and said ‘let me just try‘ and got in. Whilst graduating from a Russell Group Uni can help, it is not the be all and end all. I also know people that went to said Unis and aren’t really doing anything impressive so as people have said here what you have to offer - for the most part - is a helluva lot more important. I work for a multinational (as Naija people like to say) and a number of Directors no even go Uni. My director went to South Bank Uni and with my Russell Group Uni and all, no directorship in the offing. My point is that in IT and Engineering type roles, the no Uni at all thing is very common and there is still money in the bank. Is that not what we are all after? How many people here are doing finance related courses sef? It’s the same argument people make for private and state schools. You can say whatever you want but in terms of numbers, there are fewer private schools so most of the populace go to state schools. Same argument for non Russell group Unis. For most people here, the reason why you see Salford and Teesside a lot is financial. I had a look at my Uni for my cousin and the price difference from Westminster (where he is heading to) is about £15k. Until we all join the top 1% of the 1% that have mostly chopped Naija’s money, that is just not feasible for most people. Its not false hope. It’s called being realistic! Rant over. Slimmzyy: You are wrong sir and stop giving people false hope, I work in Private Equity in London and not a single soul in my company went to a Uni that's not a Russell Group, if anybody is in doubt, go on LinkedIn and search for any investment bank, asset management or private equity company and check the profile of the people that work there, then you would be able to answer yourself all the questions you have if you uni matters or not, and this applies to local students as well. LinkedIn is an important tool where you can see what kind of company and industry the alumni of your intended Uni are currently working, and yes someone from LSE, Imperial college, Oxbridge, Edinburgh and the likes will tell a different story to someone that's going to Chester, Teeside, East London, Salford, BCU and the list goes on.
But then again, it is not impossible, students with degrees from less prestigious universities with substantial amount of work experience from leading financial institutions also do get a shot 100% but you still need a work permit.
My advice for anyone looking to switch to Tier 2 visa from Tier 4 would be to start applying early from this October for graduate trainee programmes and focus your attention on multinational companies like, EY, PWC, JP Morgan. But if I were to be in this position, I wouldn't rely on the possibility of switching into Tier 2, as I would be exploring others means. Mr Mogatti, if you currently live and work in the UK you would understand better and the chances of getting a company to sponsor your Tier 2 visa regardless of your experience.
P.S. This information applies to a specific industry and does not reflect the overall recruitment process and preference for all industry/sector in the UK. |

I think it should be your school address as you cannot be expected to sort out private accommodation until you know for sure you are landing. So, make sure you have done your research and know where (as in areas) you want to live, budget etc so you can spell this out if asked. You can also explain on the form if you want that although you’ve put your school’s address, as you’re travelling with a dependant, you would need to rent privately. Saying that, some Unis can help with this as they have private accommodation off campus that is suitable for families. I know my Uni did back then and mature students often went down this route. olarewajuo: My school address |

This would probably be interpreted differently by different people. Personally, I would answer no as the intention was not to present false information + you wrote Kano in your AR form. Then in the bit of the form that allows for any additional information, I would explain clearly that I noticed an error in my previous application where I mixed up place of birth/place of residence. I think it is a ‘small’ error because your passport clearly states where you were born AND, in your case, where you reside (issuing authority). It’s not like the ‘mistake’ was one that would give you any sort of advantage so clearly explaining it on the form should suffice. Or you can include a cover letter. Would be interesting to see what others think. Fwaz: While cross checking my previous Visa application summary ( I got refusal though). , I noticed I might have mistook place of birth with place of residence... I just noticed that now
My birth place is Kano as shown on my passport and my place of residence is Lafia..
The address used during visa application is bearing LAFIA through out because that's where I work and reside..
Authorization of my passport too is from Lafia
Meanwhile I was giving a chance for admin review after the refusal and while filling the admin review form, I wrote Kano as my place of birth. I also checked that now. the admin review wasn't successful either because I later presented a new document" bank statement" which I didn't present in my previous visa application.. so the admin reviewer upheld the decision of the ECO as they don't accept new evidence and the can't verify the bank statement as the fund didn't matured upto 28days...I got delay from my employer in crediting my account that's why I made used of the award letter as someone told me it will suffice.
Note: Reason for the refusal is that " despite numerous attempt to verify my award later the result return back inconclusive.
Please how do I address the question below
Have you ever: given false information when applying for a visa, leave to enter, or leave to remain..
I wrote Lafia instead of Kano as my place of birth during visa application but during admin review I wrote Kano... Is this little error term as given false information?? It wasn't intentional
I intend to reapply for visa as I await my CAS..

If it’s the school asking, then saying your brother should be fine or just put family but add that the funds will be transferred to your account so it is clear you know what you’re doing (as UKVI stipulates that only your parents can sponsor you.....everyone else needs to transfer the cash to you). You don’t need to include their property documents. It has nothing to do with your application. Your main address would be your Uni address as you’d be there for most of the two years. Mosopea: Please help house,

Lol remember to pack Indomie You can arrange internet from your house. Maybe get someone to organise sim cards for you guys before you arrive so at least you can hit the ground running. You can also get someone to order groceries online for delivery to yours. It’s not ideal but it shouldn’t be too bad. TheGuyFromHR: Crazy, man. The logistics too - you arrive a new place, so organising a place to get food , internet, and all that might not be seamless if your freedom of movement is curtailed except for finding a shop to buy whatever it has in stock like it or not or ordering in pizza or whatever.

Lol It’s possible to get a student visa without venturing out of Naija so it really isn’t that serious. What I meant is proving that you have been to C or Y country is not what they’re going to use to decide whether to give you a visa or not. The select countries listed in a different section (EU/EEA, US, Canada etc) is the key thing and it is very easy to check and verify that. Is that not why we advise people not to lie about previous refusals? No harm in providing evidence for everything asked about in the form. I was just saying it’s not absolutely necessary. mattfeuter: Wrong.
If you don’t provide copies of your travel history, how will the ECO know you’ve gone to those countries ?
@TheGuyFromHR is right on the money. |
Travel › Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by Oloshi83: 3:48pm On Aug 21, 2020 |
I don’t think there’s a need for any of this. The application form asks for details of all the countries you’ve been to in the last ten years or so. Including dates. Once you fill that in, there is no real need to provide anything else. Bio data page of your previous passport if you must. The form splits it into a select list of countries and then ‘all others’. Best to avoid going over the top. TheGuyFromHR: Both. Basically referring to the practice of sending in old passports when applying for visas so that they can see any travel history you have in an old passport(s). My wife and I both went along with old passports and they said submit only your current passport.
I might add - if you have any travel history in an old passport, scan out the visas as a pdf file and upload in the self-service platform/make copies to be uploaded for you if going for the assisted service. In any event, the people at TLS will not take more than one passport from you. |
