@Dr. Ayo: Have you learnt about "maxlength" in text fields before? If not go learn about maxlength. You use that to special the maximun number of character allowed in a text field.

As for the special characters elimination, why not use PHP to strip those things off. I'll still fix up something in case I can lay my hand at one.

It depends on the type of search engine you want to create. The desired output determines the coding. If you still search around you can get at some open source programs you can modify and use. Work out something then ask questions. Alot of people are here to help.

I'm personally working out a small CMS application and I noticed that it is not really a nice option saving HTML tags to the DB because most times it conflicts with the HTML formatting on the web pages. Though I still think you could add them into posts body for formatting the texts. I said this based on my coding anyway. I used a simple textarea without any WYSIWYG editor integrated. But I'll try integrate one and see if there will be any difference.

I'm on a project that requires lots of web resources. In my search for online resources to borrow ideas from, I came came across lots of wonderful creativities by different programmers on different platforms and i was really thrilled. In fact, I started wondering at what i've so far seen and gathered. I started drawing a conclusion immediately that programmers are under rated gods. They create and give breathe and the programmes come to live. :-P But I'm pretty serious about it. To crown it all, i deviated attention to designers. What have they got? Total dependency on Programmers.

Designers only use outcomes of programmers' resources to work. In fact, I came up with decorators as a better adjective for designers. But what baffles me is how they grew in large numbers just like the Israelites outnumbered the Egyptians. Well, i guess that is why the big distinction between gods and their creations. Few leaders, many followers :-D Though their works(designers) are amazing, I still believe they should acknowledge this fact and accord more respect to those that make them what they are(programmers).

But is this my belief true? I guess so but hearing from you all will be interesting.

Disclaimer: I'm not in any form or void under rating any profession. All I said are just personal, littled biased and mixed with lots of prejudice conclusions. I don't intend to cause any anger or name calling on the thread.

Remember i pulled this from a previous thread which i posted the link. It baffled me even you Afam couldn't contain reading that line where the original poster said he/she will not be happy to get Nigerian developers to meet with better people with new and better technologies. For me, i wondered at what this new technology we don't know was all about. No matter what it may be, i think it was said with regards web development industry and i strongly believe we are abrase of new technologies because they are not and cannot be hidden. Personally, if i were a client and you intend using an unknown technology invented by your team and not posted for standard testing, compatibility issues, security et al, i'll not give in to any advice or whatever you bring up to lure me into letting you work with that technology for me.

Just a little disprove to the original poster from where i drew the topic for this thread, we are well aware of any technology out there on the www. If others say they are not, i am. I make researches, study, integrate and test new techs even if i don't use them to work now, i guess my library is a store room for them until a project that needs them come knocking.

Does it mean that there is no media or forum through which we are alerted of the latest developments in the industry or is it that we use a different Internet connectivity apart from the known and acclaimed WWW. Still wondering how possible it is that we are at aback when it comes to being informed on latest technologies. Well, I was thinking may be some people are only informed about this while the others are left to wait decades until the original users are tired of them before we get to know them.

I don't know what you feel about this but if you are really aware of new technologies as they are unravelled then I think you should speak up to counter this misconception.

But Kin Uche, I think you should also be part of the shame because you are a Nigerian, no matter where you are based. Conclusions cannot be drawn here yet and it cannot. You have stated your own part of the story. We saw and read them all but where is Quadrillio (Wale)? He must have some say here. Drawing conclusions without his comments is as good as a judge giving a final verdict from his room without hearing from both parties.

Even if you are the developer of aratext, I guess you should work up your rankings on the search engine thing and get to #1 to cover up for this thread's ranking as #1.

I'm still waiting to hear from Quadrillio on this issue. No matter how it gets resolved, at least, he needs to say something here. His not saying anything seems as if he is caged and his name being dragged to the mud. Or has he suddenly varnished from NL?

I still take to the hold that developing your own framework is better. You get it to work your own way and you integrate whatever you want to your own way. Even in the next 20 years, you can still manipulate it to work provided your earlier plannings have made way to accomodate as much updates in the W3C and other coding specifications available. Open source is good but I think whose got time could work his out and can borrow ideas from already existing ones.
