Phizzlephizz:Money rituals? Atheists generally don't believe in superstition. Money rituals don't work. scam someone on internet, rob someone's home? Maybe I don't want to do that. I like helping people, not hurting them, so why would I do something I don't like to do? Besides, if I wanted to scam someone, I'd probably become a pa$tor; it's much easier than doing scams on the internet. |
MizJanet:MizJanet you are really destroying the arguments of the God-believers here! Keep up the good work! |
This question has already been asked elsewhere, and this is the best response I have found.

benedictuyi:LOL. This is the pinnacle of stupid. Einstein was not Christian, he was Jewish! He was not religious, though he did not call himself an atheist, rather he preferred agnostic or pantheistic. This is what Einstein wrote about his religious belief in 1954: "It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it" In 1945 Guy Raner, Jr. wrote a letter to Einstein, asking him if it was true that a Jesuit priest had caused Einstein to convert from atheism. Einstein replied, "I have never talked to a Jesuit priest in my life and I am astonished by the audacity to tell such lies about me. From the viewpoint of a Jesuit priest I am, of course, and have always been an atheist. ... It is always misleading to use anthropomorphical concepts in dealing with things outside the human sphere—childish analogies. We have to admire in humility the beautiful harmony of the structure of this world—as far as we can grasp it, and that is all." In a 1950 letter to M. Berkowitz, Einstein stated that "My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment." ....Einstein sent Gutkind a letter in response and wrote, "The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this. These subtilised interpretations are highly manifold according to their nature and have almost nothing to do with the original text." |
dadido:If your god is wrathful then he cannot by definition be perfect, for wrath is a human characteristic. But let him be angry, I think it's kind of funny that poor little me can attract the wrath of the creator of the universe. |
hahn:I'd say you are correct in the sense that agnosticism is the only truly rational position. I'm agnostic atheist: I can't prove the existence or inexistence of god but my opinion is that there is no god. |
francizy:The Bible has made no more predictions than your average astrologer. |
italo:The Catholic Church tried to accommodate fascism in the 1920s and 1930s. They did so successfully Italy and Spain. The Pope wanted an accommodation with the Nazis and was willing to work with them, until the Nazis decided that the Church did not fit into their plans. In other words, it wasn't the Church that opposed the Nazis. 1.4 billion is too high; even the Church itself says about 1.2 billion, but certainly the Church's own estimates are high. |
AlfaSeltzer:I hope Jesus didn't tell you to sacrifice your first-born to show your love of him. God, his father, did that once before to some guy and he was going to do it until God said he was just trolling, just sacrifice a sheep and cut off a piece of your pen.is instead lol. |
italo:Yes but not because the Catholic Church opposed them; rather the Nazis had other ideas that did not include the Catholic Church. Of course there were some individual priests who actively opposed the Nazi regime and died heroic deaths. I don't hate Catholics (at least I think that they are Christian unlike some of your other Christian brethren), but the Church has run into serious trouble in Europe and is starting to see trouble in the Americas, including Brazil. What happened in Ireland is a sign of this. |
Jesus was dead by age 33, crucified by the Romans as a common criminal. As he died he said "God why have you forsaken me?" What a pitiful death. |
italo:There are now only about 150,000 Catholics in Russia--about 0.1% of the population There are about 35,000 Catholics in Turkey, which includes ancient Byzantium/Constantinople--about 0.05% of the population No doubt the Nazis persecuted Catholic organizations, but not because the Church opposed the Nazis. The Pope was quite anxious to come to an agreement with the Nazi government, as the Church had openly supported Fascist movements in Italy (Mussolini) and Spain (Franco); the Nazis had other ideas as they didn't really want any kind of rival organization with outside support. There is no evidence that the Church was inherently opposed to Nazi ideology. |
Tobiee:I believe in evidence. At this point there is no evidence for the existence of any particular god, and it is evident to me that religions are all man-made. |
Tobiee:The god of Abraham did not make me. |
Tobiee:God sounds like a lovely guy. |
italo:The church was not dying in Byzantium; it flourished until the schism of 1054 when suddenly half of the church became Orthodox instead of Catholic. The Church was barely present in the Soviet Union; Russians are almost entirely orthodox The Church was not dying in Nazi Germany; they willingly cooperated with Hitler, and they maintained their anti-Jewish position until the 1960s. I'm not saying that the Catholic Church will disappear anytime soon, but it has lost a great deal of power in Europe over the past 50 years. |
sundayerhun:People talk about Harry Potter and Superman; I'll talk about any god I want to. |
italo:The RCC is dying in Europe. The priests and nuns are ancient and the churches are empty. The US isn't far behind. |
johnydon22:It annoys me to no end that 'faith' is seen as a positive thing in society. I regard it as a negative. How can believing that something is true without evidence be held as a positive trait? We need to try to change this. |
niyi20:I disagree. I think it is biologically based just like left- or right-handedness. And (mythical) Sodom was not destroyed for homosexuality: "Sodom's sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door." --Ezekiel 16:49 There is more of Sodom in Nigeria than in much of 'gay' Europe. |
xest:I'm not gay because.....I'm not attracted to my own sex. Isn't that enough? |
sundayerhun:Well, I don't believe in any god, so I can talk about any god any way I like. |
If you become atheist, you should not 'blame' anyone. You just realized and accepted that religion did not make any sense. I am atheist, and I am the only one responsible for my lack of belief. My own thinking and reading led to my conclusion that all gods are created in man's image and not the other way around. |
xest:Do you support women's rights? If you do, then it's obvious you are a woman. Now go and get pregnant. I'm not gay, but as an atheist I can find no reason to be against two people marrying, nor against multiple wives or husbands. The Catholic Church has richly deserved to be told to piss off by the Irish, and rightly so. |
An2elect2:Thanks. I added it to the list above. ![]() |
Pick one of these reasons: --it's a parable --you don't have enough religious instruction to understand it --you need the Holy Spirit to understand it --the Lord moves in mysterious ways --'body' doesn't actually mean 'body' --you need to ask a pa$tor --how dare you try to read the Bible for yourself --why are you trying to mock Christianity? --I'm offended --this is stupi.d |
If this is what the world is like with God alive, I'd say he is doing a terrible job. He should be sacked and replaced with a new god immediately. |
The plural of anecdote is not data. It all has purely scientific explanations. |
I've never seen a hadith talking about this. I think it comes from an early Islamic scholar who was just writing his own thoughts. Nevertheless I have certainly heard about the 'pregnant hand' from Muslim friends--at least one of whom thought it was ridiculous. If your hand gives birth to more hands does that mean you have more hands to mast.urbate with? ![]() |
Impressive building. Some of the most beautiful buildings ever built were for religious purposes. Yeah, one could argue that the money could be better spent elsewhere. However, most of the old grand buildings that we consider to be priceless treasures today were built upon the backs of the poor and suffering (Versailles, the Vatican, the Forbidden Palace, various buildings in the Middle East), but I'm glad we have them today. |
johnydon22:Doesn't matter. My god can beat up your god, because the book that I wrote says so. I am a profit. |
johnydon22:Don't be silly! Anyone with even a few brain cells knows that Odin is real, not Osiris! |
