If they can find a cure for HIV, then what would be the danger to society? |
NumberOne2:Of course I don't believe everything I was taught in school. The Big Bang is a theory, not simply a belief, because it is backed up with reams of evidence. And I'd like you to name any prominent modern astronomer who categorically rejects the big bang, and what they actually believe. There is no faith here, because faith is believing in something without evidence. And priniciples of evolution demonstrate clearly how complex forms of life arise over time from less complex forms of life. Nothing at all mysterious about evolution. If evolution and the environment favored development of life forms resembling cars, then car-like life forms may have evolved. |
The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is not about homosexuality; it is about lack of consideration and empathy for other people, including foreigners. |
NumberOne2:There is solid scientific evidence for the big bang. The theory was not just made up by some Bronze Age desert dweller. Scientists pieced the theory together after following the evidence. And if it turns out that future research disproves some aspect of the theory, then the theory will be altered. There is no superstition here; superstitions don't change with new evidence; it is simply ignored. As far as atheists trolling religion section, I'm also tired of religious preachers trolling the television channels and billboards with their chicanery. Fortunately I can skip those silly channels, but I can't stop from seeing the billboards and advertisements. Maybe it's time for some atheist billboards and TV channels? |
The Quran says you can marry up to four women as long as you treat them fairly, but it also says you can never be equally fair between your wives. What a contradiction! Essentially this says that Muslims should only marry one wife (plus sex slaves). "You will never be able to do perfect justice between wives even if it is your ardent desire, so do not incline too much to one of them (by giving her more of your time and provision) so as to leave the other hanging (i.e. neither divorced nor married). And if you do justice, and do all that is right and fear Allah by keeping away from all that is wrong, then Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Quran 4:129) "And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphan-girls, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one or (the captives and the slaves) that your right hands possess. That is nearer to prevent you from doing injustice." (Quran 4:3) |
The ban on pork has little to do with the meat itself; rather it comes from the difficulty of raising pigs in the desert. Jewish and Muslim cultures have their origins in desert environments. Pigs have a diet similar to humans, so if you want to raise pigs you need to share your own food with them. In a desert environment, fruits and vegetables are quite valuable and so you don't want to be giving this to pigs. Instead, people in the desert prefer to raise goats and sheep, because these animals do not compete with humans for food. They eat bushes and grass that humans don't eat. So over time, keeping of pigs became a taboo, and then a religious rule. But there is nothing wrong with well-cooked pork. |
plaetton:I'm currently living in a country that is more than 90% Muslim and I can tell you that they are just as brainless as the Christians. So many of them believe all kinds of superstitions and blindly follow mallams, giving their money to them. And no religion is bona fide; both Christianity and Islam are contrived mish-mashes of borrowed customs from other religions. |
Whatever the case with pork, it makes people live longer. People in pork-eating cultures on average live longer than people in non-pork-eating cultures. But if you don't want to eat pork, then don't do it. That means more pork for me!! ![]() |
I don't see the problem here. I am atheist but because of my work I have had to really study the major religions so I can teach others about them. It does not make me less of an atheist. At it does not make the Bishop less of a Christian by studying Islam. |
(non-Muslim here) I don't see where not wearing hijab is actually described as sinful in the Quran. It's just a (strong) recommendation for women so that they can avoid harrassment. Notice all it says is that Muhammad should simply tell the women, not force them, and that the women should dress modestly. I don't see anything that requires the full hijab. "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their zeenah (charms, or beauty and ornaments) except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their khimar (veils) over their bosoms and not display their zeenah except to their husbands, their fathers .... and that they should not strike their feet so as to draw attention to their hidden zeenah (ornaments)." (24:31-32) "O Prophet! Tell your wives and daughters and the believing women that they should draw over themselves their jilbab (outer garments) (when in public); this will be more conducive to their being recognized (as decent women) and not harassed. But God is indeed oft-forgiving, most merciful." (33:59) |
The Muslim conquest of Spain sounds a bit like what Israel has done today. They took over a desperately poor area, fought and drove out those who wanted to resist, and tolerated the indigenous people who did not resist (20% of Israel's population is Arab today). And like Muslim Spain, they took an area that was essentially undeveloped and poor and transformed it into a highly developed civilization. Yes, those people who resisted the Israelis are still present, and Israel still has to fight them occasionally, like the rulers of Muslim Spain had to do with the poor uncivilized Christian kingdoms. And, like modern-day Israel, Muslim Spain was quite tolerant of gays. Some of their rulers were even openly homosexual. Quite a few parallels there. |
ISIS has nothing to do with Islam Terrorism has nothing to do with Islam Islamic governments have nothing to do with Islam Muslims have nothing to do with Islam The Quran has nothing to do with Islam Allah has nothing to do with Islam Muhammad has nothing to do with Islam Islam has nothing to do with Islam There. I've made it easy. |
Jeffy1206:But shouldn't you also be fighting divorce as well? just as sinful and perfectly legal in the US and Nigeria. I would really like to see a prominent preacher attack the legality of divorce and see his church empty out |
danielmichael:That wasn't me you were talking to (I left church more far longer than 8 years ago), but I'm sure that some people have said the exact same thing about me on multiple occasions. I'd like to shake your friend's hand. |
If Boko Haram has nothing to do with Islam, then the invasion of Iraq in 2003 has nothing to do with the United States. |
In my opinion, since god does not exist, it therefore follows that there are no 'men of god'. So comedians may make fun of any pastor or mallam or priest that they wish. ![]() |
Believers in god are always saying that atheists will call on some god if they feel they are about to die (like a plane that starts to crash). My question for you is this: Say you start choking on a piece of meat. Will you ask someone to help you remove the piece of meat from your throat or will you ask them to pray for you? Simple answer is all that is needed. |
Thanks for my daily laugh. |
How can an atheist blame a non-existent being? I don't blame any god for anything. Occasionally we atheists do talk about god as if he exists, but only to point out the obvious flaws and contradictions in such a god. We are engaging in academic exercises only. |
doofanc:But there is no specific law against fornication or divorce or gluttony. And some people are quite proud of their big stomachs or their success with women. |
If we cannot choose to sin in heaven then there is no free will, we are just robots in heaven. How sad. |
It's amazing how religious people become when people mention homosexuality. But mention divorce, greed, GLUTTONY, and fornication and religion goes into hiding..... |
God does not sit on his throne and watch people suffer.....because he does not exist. |

winner01:Most atheists I know will say 'I don't know' if there is alien life elsewhere. Until there is solid proof, I don't believe one way or another. Same with any god. I don't know if any god exists or how many there might be, but I see no solid evidence of any particular god's existence. The Bible, with all its errors and contradictions, is a man-made book collected over several centuries by various 'church fathers' by general agreement and not by some god dropping from the sky. |
Joagbaje:Show me where it is forbidden in the Bible (like adultery and homosexuality are). |
I don't believe in any god, but even if I did I wouldn't believe in a hell. I think the idea of an all powerful, all knowing creator putting his creations in hell is absurd. It's like a writer who writes a novel and then gets angry with the characters in the book that he himself wrote, and so he adds another chapter where they all get punished, even though he is the ultimate cause of their behavior. |
Anas09:Since when and where is pedophilia banned in the Bible? As far as I know pedophilia (within marriage) is Biblically acceptable. |
I will gladly 'convert' to Christianity or Islam for 10 million dollars, as long as I can live alone so that I can do whatever I want without being watched in my own place. I'm atheist, but I could go to church or the mosque once a week and say "inshallah" or "praise Jesus" from time to time. |
Image123:True, and neither do you. |
After doing some research, I found out that they have a business and not a church. They basically perform weddings for profit and not as a religious duty. Therefore they cannot exclude people for discriminatory reason. Meaning that they also cannot turn away a black couple just because they are black--that is why they can be sued. |
wiegraf:I have been enjoying these last two days. The butthurt from the religious jokers has truly been sweet. ![]() |
