@Eze Ndigbo 1 of NL,

Ok.

You know that as our own Eze which we revere, this would be a true test of your "Ezeship/leadership".

I think we must go for a 7-day. We need to set the bar so high so that ndi-iro ndigbo would know how Ndigbo organize their things and how effective we can be.

Agwo niile ra-ira mana, enwere eke nwe ofia. Ikemba bu eke nwe ofia.

Remember, it is an iroko that has fallen among men.
grin grin grin

Nwanne, where have you been all these while?
Everything you said is SPOT ON.

You need a mailing list of all Ndigbo on NL in politics, ethnic & tribalism and cultural sections. You need to easily notify all of us, as our revered Eze, of your articulations and decisions. (I have a list where I mentioned your highness and other ndigbo as part of new year greetings in the cultural section. Andrew uweh, Nri priest and Dede also have theirs there. You could start gathering the monikers from there. )

Create a new topic dedicated to ndigbo of NL to, ascertain how many days we need to dedicate to Ikemba's entry to mother earth.

It might not be wise to create a poll cos, it'll definitely be rigged by you know who and who.

Eze Ndigbo Nairaland, daalu sur. But is only a day enough for a man of Ikemba's stature? Surely a 3 to 7day break/stay-off/boycott is most befitting.

My two cents.
Nwanne, if it is left to me, I would go for 7 days! lol grin

You know how Nairaland is; some of our people are already challenging even the one day off.
We are already mourning, and will continue mourning until his remains are interred.

Methinks that if we observe a one day total and complete lay off, it should be enough.

Nwanne m, what I find most laughable is that the people holding those same views will still wonder why we are killed easily without consequences; they still expect us to be able to unite and fight for our defense or freedom. Of course that is impossible without a common authority, without a common front!
What those folks fail to understand is that, since our circumstance is like that of the Jews (somehow), we should really copy a lot of things from them. For instance, even at the earliest times of their history (according to the Bible), they had judges. After that, they agitated for "a king that will go before us in war" - a physical leader.

It is my personal opinion that the greatest achievement of the Igbo nation in 1967-70 is the fact of coming under ONE leadership. It is powerful stuff, and our history changed for ever after that.  cool

What we must fight for, now that Ojukwu has died, is to find another leader who will surpass or equal him in VISION, TOUGHNESS and FOCUS, to lead us going forward.

We must find him!  cool

Not to worry, Onyisi Ndu Chuks.   A delegation of nervous peace-makers, wearing ill-fitting three-piece suits from the Thrift Store, have just arrived from the NorthSharp encampment, and they have now been permitted to proceed cautiously through the no-mans-land mine-field, towards my bunker, with their message requesting a tentative cease-fire for the duration of this discussion, after which normal artillery exchanges will resume per schedule.

PoliticsRe: It’s Shameful That People Rally Against Subsidy And Not Boko Haram -Oritsejafor by Onlytruth(m): 4:53am On Jan 15, 2012
The question that I have for such persons is: Where were you when Nigerians were being shot all over the North? Why did you not organise this kind of protest? Are you trying to tell me that petrol is more important than human life? Can we put petrol and human life on the same scale? We can’t do that! I mean human life is precious. You can’t compare petrol to human life. Dead people don’t buy fuel! Dead people don’t go to the market! Dead people can’t drive cars! It is only the living that can use fuel for God’s sake.

There are some wrong people out there right now. I am very sad with the House of Representatives for convening an emergency sitting because of fuel. They could not convene emergency meeting when people were being killed every day. In fact, it was on a Sunday. The Christians abandoned church services because of fuel subsidy.

As we are talking now, people are dying. Last week, four young Igbo Christians, who were buying fuel in Potiskum, were gunned down and nobody is talking about this. Three women in Tafawa Balewa in Bauchi went to look at their farms but were gunned down. Some people said that their eyes were plucked. They had to call me to console the people and talk to the elders of that community by phone. You could feel the pains.
Pastor, for being a true servant of the most high, may God bless you and your family. May he feed you fat in the days of famine. May your mistakes turn to good fortune. May you never lack, and may untimely death never see you or your children.
Amen! cool

Sam_Ikenna:
The pain we feel Nigeria and her owners dont know and may never know. This pain has gone a long way in determining most of our choices and I believe at this point its too late to go back. Some folks come here and talk about subsidy protest because that's probably the only time Nigerian father Christmas refused to foot their bill. Good for them if they win or not win. In fact, I wish them luck for the sake of the working poor not for the sake of PMS importers and their buddies who badly want to win this protest for bragging right. In the end when the protest dust has settled, then what? Police back to checkpoints? Fulani back to Berom invasion? Arewa - Ohaneze - Afenifere - back to useless meetings? Boko Haram back to full business? bad roads gallore? power failure SinParty? Wow! looks like low velocity object orbiting around something massive right? This is the reality Nigeria finds itself, constantly moving around in circles with no direction.

What Nigeria needs more than anything is separation today which is already 46 years late, any more of this "I feel good" protest is a diversion from the 900 pound gorilla in the room. Each time I remember that Igbo youths have consistently resisted the temptation of taking over oil wells or blowing up oil pipelines in Igboland like their brothers are doing in SS I know that my people have understood the game. Guess what, our detractors have not given us a single credit for not helping in bringing the economy down through this kind of sabotage but they are too quick to shout Igbo is sell-out! they are tribalists! they are not protesting! we shall marginalize them after we win! like we are not already marginalized. I know for sure if we touch those oil wells or pipes in our land they will yell OLE! OIL THIEF! THAT'S WHY SOUTH SOUTH IS NOT GOING WITH YOU! LEAVE OUR OIL! SEND IN THE ARMY! LETS FINISH THEM THIS TIME! BASTARDS!

Now check this out. They will shout OLE - wow, but we didn't steal the 12b dollar gulf war oil wind fall. OIL THIEF - but isn't the oil found in our land? THAT'S WHY SS IS NOT GOING WITH YOU - ok, but some folks in SS are Igbos aren't they? LEAVE OUR OIL - again should I leave my land and move up north so you can kill me when am fleeing? SEND IN THE ARMY - mmmh well I 'll give that one to them because Nigeria is good at shooting at what moves and what doesn't move. LETS FINISH THEM THIS TIME - well, I don't know how they will achieve that but then again there is no harm in trying. BASTARDS - well, last time I checked Igbos have more monogamy and are more family oriented than any ethnic group in Nigeria and possibly Africa, I guess we manufacture BASTARDS in Aba.

We will never win in Nigeria law court or in NL shouting march. What they accuse us of is what they are doing be it in producing bastards (Almajiris and Agberos) or in stealing both our oil and SS oil. But justice is on our side and its better and stronger than winning a NL shouting march.
Thank you again, ezigbo nwa!

The truth I am telling you and all Igbos today is that WE CAN CHANGE OUR SITUATION.

YES WE CAN! cool

There will be problems along they way, heck some of us are already being tortured persecuted DAILY because of our decision to change our situation. The enemy has learned nothing from history.
The enemy respects Islamic extremists and suicide bombers more than God fearing peaceful agitators; but guess what? Every human being can be pushed to the most extreme of actions. FACT.
Every human is capable of evil. FACT
The day our youths shall rise with force, NO POWER ON EARTH can stop us! cool
We can decide to change our situation and LIVE IN FREEDOM, or, our children unborn shall remain slaves to peoples of evil lineage.

ONLY US CAN CHANGE OUR SITUATION.

Here I stand!! cool cool cool

This Ikemba's funeral will say a lot of things about us Igbo, our neighbors and Nigerians in general.
I was reading where someone who recently visited home was saying that not much work in going on per road works in Anambra in readiness for the expected crowd during the ceremony.

The Peter Obi government will get a very raw deal if he fails to put those roads in order, because there will be MASSIVE publicity coming from all and sundry during this ceremony.
I won't want to be in his shoes if he fails to deliver good roads in ONE month. lol

lets not destroy this thread, but the last time I checked there are still 2 factions of APGA. which one do you pledge loyalty to? I still have not seen any reason to join APGA. If there is a sensible plan for a sensible regional party I will like to work towards one. But I don't think APGA has shown leadership or even the willingness to embrace others and learn how to build a movement. Dont wanna get involved in the Victor Umeh vs Checkwas Okorie show.

We need a new movement! or a Rebirth of the existing one. I am not going to blindly accept any crap just because I think a regional party will help advance our agenda.
What is needed is a REBIRTH of APGA, and it will not be done by ghosts, but humans like yourself. If everybody "wuo ahu apia" (claims don't dirty me), then, nobody will even register a new one. In any case if you register a new one, it will take YEARS to get to where APGA is today.
The faction you talk about is only there because folks have abandoned the APGA project to Peter Obi.

Well, I've said my own.

It is absolutely redundant to think about the future of Ndigbo, politically or otherwise, in an equation called Nigeria. I do not want regional political party or fire-brand Igbo political leader against the backdrop of infinitesimal hope to remain in Nigeria, my unalloyed political expectation is nation state. It must be now!!!!
I beg to disagree!
One of the most important lessons of the failed Biafran effort was precisely the lack of a political movement (Party) to thoroughly consummate the Biafran message to ALL parts of Eastern Nigeria.
Methinks that even secessionist movements are more likely to succeed if they are led by registered political parties.
The end justifies the means in this case.
We are still Nigerians, until we convince both ourselves and our enemies that we must secede. Only then would our efforts not be wasted again.
For now, only APGA has that label.

You see this is the problem. I WOULD NEVER COMPLAIN about a problem I can solve. You think that the way to solve APGA problem is to be in PDP? With all due respect, that is counter-intuitive.

I have said it.

All we need is an Alex Salmond-like politician. Someone who knows what they are doing and able to inspire a generation to a common political course.

The United Kingdom as great as it is, is at cross-roads right now just because the people of Scotland has given their mandate to Scottish Nationalist Party.

Lets have a regional party that is led by the brightest amongst us, who also appreciate our history. All it takes is a successful economic agenda that exploits the ingenuity of our people and trust me a different future is possible. Our old allies will identify with us and some of our adversaries may even prefer to identify with progress.

There is no point of this pretence, we can only live in denial for so long. The story Sudan says it can be done, the story of United Kingdom says we can only pretend for so long.
I believe that the party is already there : APGA

Now, the challenge is to get PDP members (like you) to join it. Some of the finest and most resourceful Igbo politicians are in PDP. Why not them come out of it and join APGA?
Is Peter Obi and Rochas Okorocha more powerful than all of them put together?

Nna, I'm tired of pointing fingers. I must be the change that I seek!

My problem is as soon as there is a false sense of peace this group of people will go back there.

Whether you are a civil servant, businessman, student, corper, whatever you do. You have a right to stay alive. Stay out of places where you are target of attacks merely because of how you look or the language you speak or the God you pray to.

Come back permanently to down south where it is not inherent in people to take away the life of others!

A word is enough for the wise.
The problem is that most of our people are political illiterates. I just had to say it. Some of them -who are very educated- would put up SUPERIOR arguments anytime you confront them with the bolded words, only for you to see them running to the East or being butchered. It beats me each time I see this! Insanity is repeating past mistakes.

But then I am reminded that the solution is really this:

Dede1:
If Nigerians can not leave and work in any corner of the country whether north, west, south or east, then colonial contraption called Nigeria has to go. The idiotic pretence of unity and one-Nigeria has run its race. It is disintegration now!!!!!!!!
I believe that these people are WILLING victims of the Nigerian national deceit. I say this because even an illiterate Hausa shoe shiner in the East, is politically very educated. He knows to always keep to the REALITY of the Nigerian nation, and so you see them simply jumping on a "gwongworo" with only polythene bags and heading North at the slightest signs of danger. One of these days, some of our people have to face the truth and stop being smart by half.

In light of our history in Nigeria, it is the height of naivety and idiocy to build PROFUSELY outside of Igboland. Quote me any day on that!  angry  cool cool cool

The deafening silence of Northern leaders as churches are bombed and innocents gunned down, is enough evidence that Boko Haram enjoys WIDESPREAD support among the leaders of the North.
Only last week, president Jonathan admitted that Boko Haram has members high up in the Nigerian government and security formations. Just yesterday, Igbo Youth Movement also lamented the stoic silence of these Northern leaders, and issued a warning about the consequences of such silence.

I'm not a child, so don't tell me I won't understand please. I will advise you, however, to read about Occupy Nigeria, as you have their reason for protest wrong. NLC may be busy negotiating fuel terms, but Occupy Nigeria, which started one week prior to NLC's strikes, is a protest in response to the fuel subsidy removal. Not only are they protesting fuel costs, but corruption (both governmental and police). Our goal is N65 fuel, accountability in politics, infrastructural improvements, improvement of living conditions, and more. Earlier you said that Ndigbo should know their battles. This is one battle not worth missing. Pessimists find difficulties in opportunities whilst optimists find opportunities in difficulties.

Butchered in the Northeast by who? Boko Haram? You do realize that Boko Haram is a minority. A majority of Nigerians are anti-Boko Haram, so with those numbers, why fear them? When you fear a group, that group you fear becomes empowered. Boko Haram killed how many people, and it's tragic, but Nigerians are bigger than them. We always have been. Boko Haram can kill me, you, others, but they can't kill all of us or our beliefs, just as Nigerian police officers can kill Muyideen Mustapha, Ademola Aderinde, and others, but not this movement.
In Kano, Christians (both Yorubas, Igbos, etc) and Muslims formed a covenant; they protected one another. It was beautiful and admirable. Nigerians are tired of division. Millions of protesters in Lagos, Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, and Imo are joining hands. Why? Because they are optimists. On New Year's Eve, if someone asked you that within your lifetime, you would see massive protests nationwide against GEJ and rogue politicians, would you have believed it? Yet it's happening before your eyes.

If this isn't the time, then when is? Nigerians were hungry and impoverished before 1 January 2012. How do you think they're doing now? How about 6 months from now? 5 years from now? That is, if fuel prices and minimum wage were to remain as they are currently. Progress can only come from change. My human development professor always told us that change is always there for the taking, but it won't come unless you tell yourself, "Now is the time". Progress can only come from standing up for what is right and criticizing the wrong. Nigeria needs to be changed, and it will because we want it changed now. We have Twitter, Facebook, Al Jazeera, CNN, BBC, and others on our side. The world is watching. Step up.

Imagine if Martin Luther King Jr, Gandhi, or Nelson Mandela shared your notion. This belief that because Igbos endured Biafra that they can sit this one out is just as silly as African Americans complaining in this day and age about slavery, or the Japanese complaining about Hiroshima and Nagasaki. No amount of complaining anyone does about past events will change the past! So to stop history from repeating itself, act differently now.

Selfless people make this world go round. None of them protested or went through what they went through because they wanted better lives for solely themselves or their families. They saw their nations, this world, as one big family of people deserving equal rights. The sooner Nigerians see themselves as one Nigeria in one world, the better.

From an Occupier via twitter: "You have two powers as a citizen: to vote and to protest. You may have voted wrongly, so protest rightly. Support #OccupyNigeria" -Alex
@ogugua88, firstly, the quote above is it YOURS, or is it Alex's? Please clarify first. undecided

Secondly, though we all don't have to agree on every issue in Nigeria, and how to fix them, I really think that you are being VERY INSENSITIVE to the MORE EGREGIOUS and DELETERIOUS problem facing BOTH Nigeria and Ndigbo: THE QUESTION OF CITIZENSHIP.

You sound like someone without the slightest clue about the REAL issues facing Nigeria, and the more you post to argue your case, the more ridiculous you sound.
I must hammer into your head that almost ALL of us Igbo Nairalanders who today resist this quick sand protest, were formally the MOST NATIONALISTIC Nigerians you would ever come across. I was here when Olodostein joined Nairaland, and he sounded just like you!

I don't want to sound sexist, but in Igboland, when certain SERIOUS issues are being discussed, women sometimes are excluded because they are seen as statistically more EMOTIONAL and FANTASTIC about life issues. They are not called the "weaker sex" for nothing. So, go ahead and join the protests and KNOCK YOURSELF OUT. cool
Just allow those of us with eyes to the ground and complete faculty to stay home. BTW, spare us your fantastic sanctimonious preachings; it ain't gonna work!

The day the issues we care about rise up to sea level from the Nigerian bottomless pit, we shall equally rise to make hay!

For the people attacking alh harem, he is not me and if you don't like what I have written, suicide is always an option. I am an Urhobo living in Lagos, spent my service year in a horrible hellhole called Ibiasoegbe in Oru West L.G.A of Imo so when I talk about Igbos, I speak from a position of authority. If you are so brilliant in entrepreneurship, relocate and set up factories in your villages, lets see who you will sell your fake products to. The big men like Sunny Odogwu who made money off their suffering during the Civil War are living comfortably in Queens Drive Ikoyi, the poor zombies are still shouting "Biafra", how pitiful.
I just checked my map, and your land is NOT in the East; so I wonder what your problem is. The only group in Delta State that I know that qualifies as "Eastern Nigerians" are the IGBO (Anioma), who, by their blood and sacrifice during the war, became "Eastern Nigerians" automatically.  cool

So, stay in Lagos and enjoy your clubbing.
Leave matters that don't concern you.

Notice that I don't care what your REAL tribe is. lol.
It is a free world dude!

frosbel:
The frightening silence of Northern leaders has got to the breaking point. Lord Fredrick Lugard’s idea of a Nigeria he forcefully almagamated in 1914 has got to the point of severe survival test by Boko Haram, it is doubtful if the centre can hold.

We’ve been told severally by globally respected writers that this house has fallen. We’ve also been told both by Late Ghadaffi and the C.I.A that we would disintegrate. We have had faith that we could manage but Boko Haram and their sponsors think otherwise.

The emergence of a Southern Christian President has finally brought to the fore, the folly of a section of Nigeria who believes they are born to rule. Their inability to accept stark reality that Nigeria belongs to all and their desperation for power has brought the nation to its knees.

The endless slaughters of Southerners and the calculated attempt by Boko Haram to draw Ndigbo into the fray portends great danger to the continued survival of Nigeria as a corporate entity.

The calculated attempt to provoke reprisals by deliberately killing Ndigbo in the North, designed to bring the government down will only result to a very bloody civil war, the kind not experienced in Africa before now.

It is time for good men and women to stand up and save Nigeria.

The South East leaders are under intense pressure to authorize reprisals. There is a limit to our ability to hold on for continued tolerance and endurance.

The people of the South-east are surprised that Nigerians are only interested in fuel price, nobody is talking about the Ndigbo that are being slaughtered daily in Northern Nigeria. In churches, during town-hall meetings, in buses on their way home and even passer-bys.

The key problem is the unworkable unitary structure and desperation to occupy centre. Half-witted ignoramuses cannot set agenda for us. We will not play into their hands.

Politicians who used empowerment and emboldened Boko Haram have already lost control.

Those who think we will not fight back may not be right. We will decide when and how. It is not in our character to kill helpless women and children.

The endless slaughtering of Southerners and the calculated attempt by Boko Haram to draw Ndigbo

The calculated decision by Boko Haram sect and their sponsors to disintegrate Nigeria has gone on with it’s attendant blood letting for much too long.

The olodo liar, OnlyTruthLies, was voted Eze Ndigbo of Nairaland through rigging, cheating, and childishness. See it here ===> https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-819196.0.html
My renegade brother ndu_chucks

You are equally enjoined to lay off Nairaland on that fateful day; it won't kill you.
Though your mother ran away with aboki to ugwu awusa where you were born, you still remain our brother, nwanne. cry
So, this is an opportunity to repent and embrace your true heritage.
Nama ugwu. wink grin

Hey OnlyTruth, who made you Eze Ndigbo on Nairaland?  grin

Igbo enwe Eze. Abi you done break tradition?

Anyway RIP to Ikemba, but I think this is a bad idea. One only "fasts" to a deity, not a human.
My Eastern Nigeria brother Ibime

Every group of people serious about moving forward, must have a leader, whether you call him "Eze" or whatever other name that won't give you a heart attack grin, it is well. So, calm down bros!

As for your allegation of deification of Ojukwu, FAR FROM IT my brother. In the Igbo worldview and spiritualism, NO HUMAN, or HUMAN DESIGNED SYSTEM would ever replace the Great God, who created the whole universe, whom majority of us serve. NONE!  cool

So, pay your respect to Ojukwu and move on. It won't kill you. However, you can also share with us whatever other reasons you think this is a bad idea.

I dey wait.  cool

Sam_Ikenna:
I will respect the decision of my people and why we at it let us use this period to reflect on the man, Ojukwu, and remember that he did great things for our people at a young age. Most of us today are within this age bracket which means we must be ready to serve and, if need be, lay down our lives for the emancipation of our people. There is a little Ojukwu in every Igbo/eastern man and woman. For me and my family I would say this - I shall not rest neither shall I weary nor slumber until my people are free from Nigeria. Nigeria woke up the giant in all us and its our duty to unleash this giant at the fullness of time. I say this to my people - lets keep towing the part of virtue, love for our Lord and people, and science and maths, because this cookie is going to crumble any time. Let's ignore but not overlook our detractors and evil wishers, lets take note of them and respond with strategic military silence. Let us bear the pain and humiliation Nigeria and her "owners" have shown us with unbreakable fortitude and be ready to unleash our venom when the time is right. We are united in aspiration and freedom. We are united and will remain united, despite Nigerian torpedoes we have carved a formidable nation with one dream, justice, love, equality, and freedom for all.

I will not say goodbye to Ikemba, not yet. Ndigbo si "nwata welu ike bulie nna ya elu, nyoyo ogodo ayochie ya anya" Nigeria tried to toss us up in a hurry and our "ogodo" has blocked their sight, need I say their sight will remain blocked until the last battle?
Thank you my brother.
We the youth of Eastern Nigeria must answer the call of our time. We must choose to live free, or die trying! cool

@My brothers Omenala and PointB,
The condolence thread is a very good idea, except that it should come AFTER Ojukwu's burial, precisely because of the concerns raised by One_Naira below:

One_Naira:
It wouldn't work. With the likes of some bigots who go on attack whenever ojukwu name is mentioned, the thread will result into a tribal bashing on both side. The purpose of the thread will head another direction.
Thank you my brother.

So, basically we should open that condolence thread on the 4th as suggested by PointB. At least from that date, life basically returns to normal here on Nairaland.
