PoliticsRe: Why Is There No Looting In Japan? by Onlytruth(m): 8:15pm On Mar 22, 2011

Culture.
If you want to address an issue truthfully, do so COMPLETELY. undecided

Yes it is culture (duh! undecided ). . . but I would say cultural HOMOGENEITY -they believe in the same sets of ethos and values.

That is what is missing in any country where people steal at any given opportunity, and I don't care how "civilized" the country is.

A friend who once visited Botswana in southern Africa described something similar to the Japanese culture of dignified and calm decency.

Those of us who would rather have an Igbo-only country are mainly inspired by this philosophy.

Wealth is much more than money. It includes being able to sleep with both eyes closed every night, going to where ever you wished with your doors left unlocked, and returning to find your house intact.

That is what is missing in Nigeria and similar countries worldwide.

This is why they say a nation gets the leaders it deserves. You don't want theory. You want someone that will just enter and start charging around like a bull in a china shop. Headless chicken runnings. Buhari-type arrest everyone, freeze all projects, Probe this and that person, War Against Indiscipline, etc etc.

Do Nigerians really deserve educated, thinking technocrats like Jonathan, Sanusi, Madueke, and Aganga at the helm, or are Buhari's rampaging, slash-and-burn tactics, thugs in tow, really what they merit?
Abeg help me ask dem o! cry

I don't know how they can look at Buhari and see a Nigerian president in this century.
I tire frankly. cry

The only problem with this whole uprising thing is that the Nigerian Army is way more resourceful then the Libyan army just saying.
^^

You meant the Nigerian army is more murderous than the Libyan army. undecided

The truth is that the world will not stand such murder again. All it takes now is for an armed uprising to begin anywhere in the East or SS and the world powers will intervene to stop the Nigerian army.

Gone are the days of such "resourcefulness" in the world.

Yes I have problems with your amala biased head. If you ever thought outside of the gbegiri gate, you may actually see that Buhari is a semi literate extremist trying to steer the nation in the 21st century.

I'm listening to the debate posted by Chyz. Will be back to continue this debate. My summary though is that Buhari is NOT broad minded enough to see me (my people).

Look, guys, do not be ethnic bigots. Why are you all still talking about interest?? It makes not sense. Please, let us reason without sentiments.
Believe me I'm reasoning without sentiment here. The Buhari dude cannot understand Nigeria enough to proffer viable solutions to her problems.

How can I not be biased against a guy who cannot see me, due to his educational limitations?
If he is educated enough, he would have at least learned to woo all parts of Nigeria. He doesn't even pretend to have a clue!  cry

I am more concerned with societal development- economic, social, political, cultural, technological,  etc.
I don't see Buhari outperforming Jonathan in these. Frankly.  undecided

This is where education gives you the edge. This is why President Hu Jintao of China is a graduate

This is 21st century, not 19th century.

Again we are talking about Nigeria - a 150 million nation with 250 different ethnic groups and the most powerful country in Africa in practical terms.

We also have the highest number of educated folks in Africa.

Who can Buhari work with in this 21st century Nigeria?

Abeg Nigerian presidents should have at least a Masters degree level of education.  cool

Dude its all about societal development and modern perspectives in this case. You and I know that the Nigerian society cannot equip anyone who never ventured into school with enough skill-set to thrive in modern thinking.

US society is different; so quit bringing in Bill Gates here.

This so called puritanism is why I believe that Sanusi killed our banks by destroying Soludo's vision of an African finance hub in Nigeria.

Jonathan is bullish, while Buhari is bearish. I'm a business man mehn!

Steal $100 but create $10,000.  cool

Don't just come to save $100 and only creating $200!  undecided cry

Nigeria should be rushing forward not backwards.

Beaf is correct. A lot of this expanded income issuing from the PIB is not going to be money going directly into government coffers, but rather, the wider economy.
Seconded solidly. The truth is that there is something this government is doing already that it liberalizing the Nigerian economy. There is no way Buhari can understand the Nigerian economy more than Jonathan. NO WAY. Period.

Whether these anti-GEJ folks realize it or not, Jonathan is a Liberal while Buhari is a dubious conservative.

I don't want someone who would be shouting corruption this corruption that while our economy is pushed into the stone age, cos frankly, Buhari is not educated enough to have a clue. Quote me on that.  cool

Ihe eji adi dike abua aga n'okwu bu maka na nke onye chefuru, ibe ya echetara ya.

The reason you should send skilled word-smiths in pairs to handle difficult negotiations is because each needs to remind the other of salient points. You need backed up negotiators.

It is the same govt that is pushing for the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) and not renewing any drilling contracts until that bill is in place. In one word, it is a revolution!

Never has Nigeria seen a govt that can means to get our due from the oil companies. By the way, the PIB will multiply Nigeria's income 7 times, from $102billion annually, to $687billion annually. Thats yet another revolution.
Bros Beaf

Abeg can you explain the bolded for me. I've heard about this bill but I've not really researched it yet. What and what does it do for Nigeria?

@ Bro Ibime,

I see your points too, though you leave out the PPP aspect of it. Your point about the Lagos location is unimpeachable.
Why not Onne or anywhere near the oil production communities?

The article is nuanced but the core message is only lost to fools. cool I didn't miss the message, which is simple:

"You (our so called Yoruba brothers) stole our oil wells by ceding them to Ondo state. angry We will not fight you, yet, because historically, we dialogue first!"

So, the REAL Itsekiri was even considering WAR against the Yoruba for control of own oil resources. hehehe!  grin

In fact they indirectly accuse Yoruba of theft here! shocked

So who is this jason character speaking for when he says Itsekiri will follow Yoruba "cousins" into Oduduwa?

I dey laugh o! grin grin
