PoliticsRe: Fashola Opposes Geo-political Zones, Autonomy For Councils by Onlytruth(m): 6:12pm On Feb 04, 2013
PointB: Lol. It appears Lagos State is not ready to share it wealth with other states in it's zone otherwise, I see no reason to argue against geopolitical zones, when a better argument/proposal would have been to collapse the state boundaries and extend a geopolitical zone include homogenous ethnic groups adjacent the zones.

The allocation system should be based on percentage contribution by the federating unit -the more you contribute, the more allocation you get. Simply put, the Zones pay tax to the centre.

In any case, a federation based on strong zones (regions) and weak central is best hope for Nigeria. It's in best interest of every group to consider this as a way of salvaging whatever is left of Nigeria.
You hit the nail on the head!
In any case, Lagos is probably mindful of its unique status in Nigeria's history. It was a separate territory from "Western region" even before Nigeria was formed.
Maybe current geopolitical zones need to be adjusted a little to recognize historical facts first.

PointB: In which way is it actually ridiculous? What exactly is the Eze expected to do, besides commenting (posting)? If and when the Eze decides to work offline, most of the activities will still be limited to 'commenting' or..?

If you can't provide tangible and workable suggestion to this question. I suggest you stop terming other people's comment as 'ridiculous.'. I don't know what problem such comments seek to address.
Thanks for setting the records straight. Those of us who worked very hard to design this mission must never allow it to be diverted to something else. To build is hard, but to destroy is very easy.
Simples.
PoliticsRe: MASSOB Introduces ‘biafran Income Tax’ by Onlytruth(m): 5:50pm On Feb 04, 2013
Unless there is something NEW about taxes that I don't know, I believe that this is a VERY BAD IDEA.

First, it will allienate Ndigbo from MASSOB because I can bet my last penny that no one likes paying taxes, even in developed countries. So, MASSOB is walking a minefield here. That is even more the case when they MASSOB have contributed ZERO to the purses of people in Igboland. An organization that wants to liberate people should not start by adding their own YOKE to the people's neck.
What I expected MASSOB to do (if they are serious about Biafran independence) is to seek funding from RICH Igbo and other non-Igbo Biafran supporters. If they are honest enough and have enough integrity and probity, I believe that they will get funding, and make use of the funds judiciously.
Imagine people paying Nigerian income tax, only for MASSOB to show up again asking for tax! angry I don't understand the mindset of these MASSOB people, honestly!
Must they always start their campaigns by sacrificing Igbo (whether blood or tax!)? Can't they "liberate" us without they focusing on US (Igbo folks) instead of the enemy?

Scratching my head angrily! angry
PoliticsRe: The Second Eze Ndi Igbo Parliamentary Office by Onlytruth(m): 10:04pm On Feb 03, 2013
Eze Odumchi you did well by explaining that your scarcity in this section is not a leadership strategy, but rather a factor of your being busy with other things. That is very understandable. Believe me that is one of the reasons I didn't want to continue in office. However, in your case, since you are a moderator in the culture section, I believe you can at least share your time there and here (as you acknowledged).
IMHO this section is so crucial that you will need to spend more time here, or appoint a Prime Minister who should post here often.
Nna, Umu Igbo are very apprehensive of calling anybody "Eze" as you can see from some of the posts here already. The Eze must do something that they cannot do for themselves before they follow him. I'm talking from experience now.
So, our style of leadership may differ, but some things must never miss, else, "Igbo enwe eze" will rear its ugly head again, and these are some of the things we've managed to control last year. Don't ever believe that silence or abscense from key debates here will be accepted by Ndigbo.
The COAS thread is a matter which can lead to real life consequences if we don't pay attention to it. A lie if left unchallenged becames the truth.
PoliticsRe: The Second Eze Ndi Igbo Parliamentary Office by Onlytruth(m): 9:33pm On Feb 03, 2013
@ifyalways,

Yes I maintain that the Eze's only duty here (if you really digest the full import of the constitution) is only to comment and nothing more. He uses his comments to:
movitate, inspire, credits, enables, leads and empowers Ndigbo; and his immediate sphere of influence is really only Nairaland. We have ENYI (a separate brick and mortar organization) that does everything "action oriented". We were very clear about those things when we designed them.

I don't even want to dwell on it, because it is trite that if the Eze fails to do these, he will be sidelined by Igbo people almost instantly (you know our people's restlessness!). The inspiration and crediting portion (to Igbo psyche) is so crucial that nothing else can stand if they are missing.

So, let us all help our Eze to keep focus on his duties before it becomes too late.

nagoma: Igbo's don't seem to realize that they are a minority in Nigeria.
No matter how long you peddle the lie, it can NEVER be true. If you doubt it we will use our "minority" population again to return Jonathan to power in 2015.
If I were you I would start telling myself the truth now before it becomes too late. wink

This is the type of lies that must not go unchallenged. You used it to divide and defeat Eastern Nigeria in the war. You will not succeed in repeating same in 2013 "insha allah". cheesy
PoliticsRe: The Second Eze Ndi Igbo Parliamentary Office by Onlytruth(m): 2:28am On Feb 03, 2013
Umunna I have to place this on record again as I always do. I see it necessary because we the so called "internet warriors" (apologies to side jesters) have a legacy to protect.
I state again that the ONLY DUTY of Eze Ndigbo in Nairaland is to COMMENT constantly here in the politics section (or at least visibly enough here), and engage in the so called "e-fights" to set the records straight concerning Igbo interest in Nigeria. Our Eze must not be avoiding such engagements because, if nobody is talking for us, then, history will be presented without our input. Ndigbo say that silence is a form of acquiessance (or acceptance): Ogbara nkiti kwere ekwe!.

The comments of the Eze, leads Igbo opinion here, seeks to create a common ground among Ndigbo for the purposes of speaking (not watching) with one voice. Please note SPEAKING, because total silence is not speaking in any FORUM, particularly internet one. A forum is for speaking, nothing more. We'll be damned to allow that fact swindled away from us by charlattan and dubious commentators.

Our Eze can also appoint a Prime Minister ASAP to do the speaking if he is not disposed; but somebody in the leadership MUST SPEAK and speak what Ndigbo can relate with.

Let those interested in insults continue; but facts must stand their own merit.

So, I still await our Eze to comment more in this section and lead us here. He should never allow anyone to convince him otherwise.

A word is enough for the wise.

kikuyu1: As a Kenyan,I'm neutral but support the side of natural justice & equity. We had a very similar situation in Kenya with Moi's exit. The security forces were filled with his Kalenjin at ALL levels. When natural corrective measures were undertaken they whined like a genocide. The truth is there was an unofficial quota put in place in the late 80s of only 5% Kikuyus for the forces. I know a cousin who was one of only 2 in the elite police Recce coy at this time.
OP,without firm figures of Ibo vs Naijja populations and the forces ethnic makeup I withhold comment. If I missed it-please repost.
My brother don't even bother to read his factitious tales and statistics. In Nigeria, statistics has been the most deadly weapon of internal colonization. It has played a leading role in Nigeria's backwardness. Earlier occupiers of Nigeria's seat of power saw it that way and used it effectively to corner the future of the entire country.
When later leaders came into office and started to correct things, these forces started to cry foul.

I will quote one of Nigeria's best politicians (the late Dr Chuba Okadigbo) and he said; "Statistics is like the bikini. What it shows is interesting, but it is what it does not show that is intriguing."

Use Google earth to view Nigeria, and count the number of populated cities/areas in the North, East and West, then draw your conclusions.
In any case, the Nigerian national football team has been "dominated" by Igbos for ages; nobody complains about that. But the military is a different ball game, because they have used it to oppress Igbo people in the past. That is why they are panicking now.

PoliticsRe: IBB: How To Avoid Nigeria’s Break-Up In 2015 by Onlytruth(m): 4:08am On Feb 02, 2013
Speaking on the forthcoming centenary celebrations General Babangida said, “in less than a year, in about 11 months and a few days, we as Nigerians will be celebrating 100 years of our existence as a legal united entity. We have cause to rejoice. During these 100 years, Europe has endured two world wars, Russia had gone through a revolution, a civil war and finally gone from being Russia to Soviet Union and back to Russia.

During this time, Spain and Yugoslavia have gone through horrendous civil wars. During this time, several countries in Asia, including China went through civil wars that almost brought them to their knees.

“Yet today, Europe is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. China is destined in a few years to become the biggest economy in the world. Yes, during the past 100 years of our existence, we also have gone through a horrendous civil war.
The events that led to the war and the war itself have left lasting effects on all of us, including those who were not even born during those events.

“As other countries have overcome the mistakes in their history and moved on, so we Nigerians also have cause to rejoice that even though in our history we have met with obstacles, we have experienced ups and downs, each generation had sought to the best of its ability to tackle these obstacles. That we are still a united nation is sufficient cause for congratulation.
Oga IBB your observation is correct, but your presentation of them is incorrect. I hope it was not deliberate.
In the same century, Europe has produced MANY countries, split from old dysfunctional countries Yugoslavia alone produced Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, and Kosovo. Russia has fought a brutal civil war again over Chechnya and barely holds the territory by making it very autonomous. Czech and Slovakia have split out of Czechoslovakia. And Spain is about to lose Catalonia in the near future. Scotland is headed the same direction.
The point is that peace can only be assured when anyone who wants to leave Nigeria is allowed to leave in peace; else we may be saddled with the peace of the graveyard. We should not make the Nigerian nation a forced existence. There is no way for peace and progress to happen in such a scenario.
I still respect you a lot as one of the most intelligent leaders ever to lead Nigeria.

After going through these postings one can see clearly that the people behind the OP statements are only unhappy that they did not get more strategic positions from which they can launch a coup against GEJ: Armoured Corp and 3rd Division for examples.
If coup is not in their minds, I wonder how they came up with these baseless claims and allegations.

Brothers/sisters, Umu igbo in general can we stop reading meanings in everything our Eze says? Eze odumchi is a human just like u and i,so far he haven't said or do anything that warrant name calling or whatever anyone may think he represent. Let us take sentiment aside read his post with plain mind you will realized what he is saying is really needed in Igbo nation. My advice is we should stop expecting that our Eze will always speak 100% what we want to hear or read. Even Dim Ikemba Ojukwu who most igbo held in high esteem has some mistakes, likewise our former premier Eze onlytruth sometimes wasn't 100%, but these two great former leaders always display great leadership qualities that covers up their mistakes. Please let us rally round and give our Eze the maximum support and correct him carefully when he made mistake but don't correct him in public.
