A Video footage where suspected drug smugglers under interrogation linked high profile NDLEA officials to 25kg drug smuggled into the country via Ethiopia from Brazil has emerged online. Posted by Onome Naomi A press conference organised by Mr Femi Babademi, the Special Adviser on Media to the NDLEA chairman, Mohammed Buba Marwa, had accused Kyari and four others of being members of drug syndicate. The police also issued a statement signed by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police’s Deputy Force Relations Office afterwards saying the five police men tampered with exhibits in a case of illicit drug trafficking. The police said after investigations, it was able to identify two international drug couriers identified as Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus, who were arrested at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu on the 19th of January, 2022 upon their arrival from Addis Ababa aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight ET917. The two suspects were subsequently transferred to the NDLEA on the 25th of January, 2022. However, investigations have shown that only four police officers from IRT were involved in the arrest of the suspects and the 25kg of the drugs. It was reliably gathered that, the four police officers ran into trouble for being unable to get compensation from NDLEA for the whistleblower, as always the case, having promised him he will receive full compensation, an agreement the whistleblower undertook to reveal the arrival of drugs into the country. The head of the four police officers who went to Enugu for the operation subsequently contacted Abba Kyari if he knew any senior officer in the NDLEA so he could help get the whistleblower his compensation. Kyari, acting on the fact that the four officers were under his control and moving to assist, accepted and called one of them, who was seen in the car with him. They met two times according to the reliable source, with the second meeting showing a photograph of Kyari standing near the NDLEA officer’s SUV. According to the source, the NDLEA had in their custody the two suspects and the drugs since January 22th but never proceeded with the case and only came out with the news declaring Kyari wanted in their bid to absolve the agency’s men, who are complicit in the deal. But a reliable source at the Police headquarters revealed that Kyari alongside three other agents of the IRT were called into the police headquarters on Saturday to enable the police carry out its investigation. The police kept the four men until Monday to the full know of the NDLEA, according to the source. He added that Kyari and the three others were actually with the police at the force headquarters when the NDLEA declared them wanted, raising concern about the motive of declaring people ostensibly under custody wanted. CRIME: TWO YEARS AFTER, WOMAN ROBBED BY POLICE SERGEANT YET TO RETRIEVE CELL PHONE. By Akuekwe Joy @Vonnews Reports that a travel agency operator, Mrs. Adeniyi Aderonke whose cellphone was snatched by a gun trotting policeman in 2020 at her Ikotun, Lagos office has yet to recover her gadget despite having petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police about the robbery. The alleged incident took place on a fateful day in the month of Sept, when a certain police officer, Sgt. Idris Samson, stormed her office situated at the top floor of a two storey building, claiming that Aderonke had taken photographs of him and the LASTMA officials he was attached to whilst they impounded a vehicle. Aderonke stressed that immediately Samson entered, demanded her phone, and pointed his AK-47 riffle at her when she proved adamant, action she said forced her to release her phone. " Samson who quickly rushed out and descended the stairs, moved straight into their vehicle. " Appeals for him to return my phone fell on deaf ears. He only told me to come for my phone at their office as they zoomed off", Aderonke noted. Aderonke and her husband went to the LASTMA office where she quickly recognised the sergeant because his name was conspicuous, and that they were asked to go beg a LASTMA officer for the release of the phone, advice which her husband frowned at, leading to his petitioning the AIG, Zone 2, Onikan, as the Divisional Police Officer of Ikotun Division had advised when they went there earlier. As the phone remains in the custody of Samson, as the authorities have not taken any drastic action, Aderonke is appealing to well meaning Nigerians to intervene for the sake of justice, particularly as the absence of the phone containing meaningful contacts has warranted business setback and loss. Mrs. Aderonke also called for SOS as she can not tell the reason Samson Idris had withhold her phone, as well as every of her information is embedded there in. Moreso her safety and that of her family is at stake and as such she calls on the Inspector general to look into this case and help move into action.

NOTORIOUS SCAMMER, ZEBEDE CHIBUZOR GOES INTO HIDING WITH WIFE AFTER SWINDLING BUSINESS MAN N19M By Onome Naomi The security agents have commenced manhunt for a notorious scammer and Managing Director, Home Decor Trend Solution, Zebede Chibuzor, who allegedly absconded with his wife, Patience, after he swindled a business man, Chief Julius Okwara, to the tune of about N19m under false pretence in Lagos State. The suspect, Chibuzor, whose fake office address was located at GT 16, Lekki Garden Estate, Lagos, was said to have obtained the money and went into hiding with his wife and had been on the run since then. The victim, Chief Okwara, who hold the chieftaincy title, Agubata, reportedly fell into his trap after he was introduced to him by one Golden, that he was into production and supply of unique Aluminum doors and windows including protectors and he promised that he would deliver the items within two months to Okwara’s home town in Ideato, Imo State. However, the whole arrangement turned out to be a scam after Okwara had paid him about N14m with the written agreement that when he supply the items to his home town and he would be paid 20% balance and if he eventually fix the items and he accepted. According to Chief Okwara, the contract was signed and agreed in Ideato South in Imo State and the address on his letterhead was discovered to a fake one, which he used to dupe people as there was no house with that physical address. “I was introduced to him at my site in the village by one Mr. Golden, who was also doing wrought iron contract on the same site. The contract agreement was signed on 7th July, 2021 and to supply as agreed in the contract in two months being 7th September and this more than 5 months overdue. All efforts to see him have been negative because he refused to meet me in person. The public should avoid Chibuzor and his wife because they are scammers and should be apprehended and handed over to the Police anywhere they were found” he said. Chief Okwara said he has a handsome reward for anybody that will give any information of his residence, hotel or hideout and urged the public to be good Samaritans and help to take them off the street for good by giving useful information on them, which can done by calling the given number, 08086062433. He regretted that after he paid him the money, he absconded with his wife and since then he has been on the run and did not either refund his money or supply the items since last year. Rather, he was said to be threatening Chief Okwara that he can be kidnapped and dealt with, in order to intimidate him to forget the money. Efforts to locate him at his known home have proved abortive as the residents stated that he had been on the run as EFCC had been on his trail and he had sold his house and escaped to unknown place. The alleged fraud was reported to the security agents, who have been trailing him but were yet to apprehend him or his wife. According to Police sources, he rented an office at Marwa area of Lekki and when he discovered that the security agents had located the place, he abandoned the office and ran away. The victim, Chief Okwara, described Chibuzor’s action as shocking and lamented that his dubious character has delayed his ongoing project in his home town explaining that Chibuzor has exhibited some traits that he was of a dubious character and had been defrauding innocent Nigerians. When the suspect, Chibuzor, was contacted on the phone via his number, 08035022030, it ranged severally but he did not pick his calls confirming that he was actually into hiding. The above insight is largely true of the incumbent as well as the 11th Provost of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Ijanikin, Lagos State: Prof. B.B Lafiaji Okuneye. Though a woman, but as the Chief Executive of the Citadel, she has succeeded in achieving much more than several contemporary men in her status and height could. Evidently, today, her strategic role speaks volume of sound leadership skills and pedagogic as an actualizer and game-changer. Sure, *in just two calendar years, she has not only covered grounds - but has likewise scored over twenty indelible "firsts!* Certainly, she is a God-sent imbued with selfless services, needless to also add that she is a role model for good governance. Here is something else we should know: *She is an incredible teacher and a bank of wisdom! Words are not just enough to describe her empathetic and noble leadership style.* Notwithstanding feminine traits, her unassuming attribute is worthy of commendation as we can attest to the truth that she has given much dedication and Commitment towards the upliftment of staffers and Development of the Citadel in general. At 24th of each month, the salary of workers are already disbursed .... ▪️Near-Completion of ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCK that has been abandoned for over a decade. ▪️Construction of huge AUDITORIUM with befitting offices to replace the old dilapidated school of Part Time Studies. ▪️Completion of modern portable E-LIBRARY donated by Speaker Gbajabiamila and ably supervised by her office. ▪️Construction of new Under BRIDGE ENTRANCE GATE sponsored by His Royal Highness , Oniba of Iba Kingdom, and ably monitored as the Chief Executive. ▪️Building and maintenance of all abandoned, but accessible ROADS within the College. ▪️Migration of the College to a UNIVERSITY of EDUCATION status under her tenure. ▪️Prompt writing and submission of EXAMINATION RESULTS, unlike before, where students were the one dictating when to sit for exams. ▪️Introduction of Staff and Acrobatic GAMES ...The first ever staff game that cut across all ranks and files. Such games as Tug-of-War, Ludo, Hockey, Mix men and women Soccer games etc, were introduced and sponsored by her Management. Besides, the monthly Acrobatic Trek Game, first of its kind, has been of tremendous benefit to all the participants, needless to also add that testimonies abounds from Staffers who had participated in the game with regards to their renewed physical fitness. *While all of these are certainly ever refreshing, for us on many levels, from the vintage point of the present, Prof. Lafiaji Okuneye, an icon of academic 'Distinction' has not only made history, but has continued to blaze a trail.* *BY PRINCESS AGBONIFO

NEWS: AOCOED POSITIONS FOR GREATER ORDER AS SENIOR STAFF GETS BEFITTING CLUB @Vonnews To declare that the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Oto/Ijanikin, Lagos is growing in leaps and bounds is to state the obvious, and to also affirm that the institution is progressively perfecting its readiness to wear the new mien of Lagos State University of Educatiin , LASUED which comes upon it soonest, will be another statement of verity; this is because the entire AOCOED internal space is fast becoming a breeding ground for development. With the recent accomplishment of a senior staff club meant for the after- work parley of the senior staffers in the institution, no doubt, greater sanity leading to colossal productivity will be guaranteed. According to the the first elected President of the club that will be a rendezvous of principal officers, Mr.Abayomi Odu,who was officially sworn in recently, the club will create an atmosphere for unity, collaboration and progress, especially as it will bring the think tank of AOCOED together under an atmosphere of leisure and relaxation to further proffer meaningful panacea to issues in the interest of peace and progress. Abayomi who hailed the BOT members and other stakeholders for this unique development also pointed that the time for people who carried erroneous impression that staff clubs are places for beer and alcohol to discard their myopic impression is now, as such does not reflect the true narrative. There used to be a staff club in AOCOED, but the berthing of the senior staff club has been greeted with accolades by the community of principal decision makers. NOTORIOUS SCAMMER, ABUBAKAR MAYAKI SWINDLES IBEJU LEKKI LANDOWNERS OF MILLIONS WITH COMMISSIONER’S NAME Posted on January 25, 2022 MICHAEL AKINOLA A notorious scammer, Abubakar Mayaki Suleiman, may have landed in trouble with serious upcoming legal battles after he allegedly swindled innocent landowners of millions of Naira under the false pretence of procuring land allocation from the Lagos State Government using the name of the Commissioner for Waterfront, Mr. Kabir Ahmed, which turned out to be a scam. P.M.EXPRESS reports that security agents are now looking for Suleiman, who was said to have gone into hiding over the alleged fraud. The suspect, Mayaki, who hails from Bida, Niger State, claimed to be untouchable because he knows the Presidency, former Inspector General of Police, IGP Idris and top Lagos State Government officials including the Commissioner of Waterfront, Mr Ahmed. He is also said to always go about with sophisticated guns and shoots indiscriminately in the sites at Ibeju Lekki and obtains money from landowners. It was not confirmed if the guns he uses were approved for his use by the top government officials he claimed to be working with. Mayaki has landed in trouble as the security agents are now after him for having reportedly obtained $40,000 USD from a businessman, Kenny, under the false pretence of facilitating to procure land allocation through the Commissioner of Waterfront, Mr Ahmed. However, having obtained the money, he absconded and did not get the allocation as he had promised to do and did not make any contact with the Lagos State Government officials. In a letter sighted by P.M.EXPRESS, sent to Mayaki dated 11th January, 2022, by a legal practitioner, Barrister Elvis Iyamu, captioned “Demand to Refund 40,000 Dollars”, the lawyer wrote : That you, Mayaki, whose address is located at 107 Ogudu Road, Ojota, Lagos, on Sunday 2nd May 2021, demanded and received 40,000 dollars from our client at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, claiming to be acting on the instruction and on behalf of the Commissioner for Waterfront, Mr Kabir Ahmed. That the money was needed to help facilitate the process of land allocation letter from Lagos State Government through Ahmed within two weeks.” “However, findings showed you were not acting on behalf of the Commissioner, Ahmed, as you claimed, and your claims were false because you did not procure any letter for our client land situated at Ibeju Lekki.” “Consequently, you obtained the money using the Commissioner’s name which amounted to fraud.” When P.M.EXPRESS contacted the suspect, Mayaki, on his known mobile phone number 08033414901, his phone rang, but he did not pick his calls. However, it was learnt he claimed to know high profile people in the Presidency, the Police and top Government officials and he can do whatever he likes because his contacts will protect him no matter what. P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the victim reportedly fell into Suleiman’s trap when a notorious company, known as Urban Shelter, allegedly invaded a community known as Amisu in Idi-Orogbo area of Ibeji Lekki, Lagos, for land grabbing. When the company was repelled and sent away from the victim’s parcel of land, Suleiman suggested to the victim to bring the said money for him to go to the Lagos State Government through the Commissioner, Ahmed, in order to secure the allocation, which will solve the issue of land grabbers in the site. The victim believed him and gave out the money but he did not fulfill his promise of bringing the allocation or returning the money, which is now going to lead to heavy criminal legal battle in the Court of Law.

22 MILLION BITCOIN: VICTIMS ALLEGEDLY EXTORTED BY A DSP, CORDILIA OTHERS PETITION IGP -They extorted N22m from me ,Nigerian in Diaspora alleges @VONNEWS The end may not have been heard of the indictment of a woman Police officer, DSP Cordellia Nwawe and members of her team , attached to the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCIID, Alagbon ,Lagos, who were alleged to have extorted N22 million worth of bitcoin from two young Nigerians in July 2021. This followed petitions by some Nigerians who claimed to have fallen victims of same fate as the two real estate developers identified: Morakinyo Peter and Yusuf Samson , attached to the Special Investigation Panel instituted by the Inspector- General of Police, IGP Alkali Usman Baba, to investigate the allegation of extortion by the police officers. It was gathered that some of the petitions were written by Nigerians based abroad , some of whom recounted their ordeals during visits to their home country. One of the petitions by a London- based Nigerian, Tosin Enikuomehin, alleged that DSP Cordelia and her team forced him to cough out N2 million to bail himself, three years ago. Enikuomehin, in the petition, said, “ I had just come into Nigeria from London, to set up my business and further create employment for the people of my neighborhood in Lekki Lagos state. On September 2,2019, I went to the bank to deposit some money into my GTB account in Victoria Island , when I noticed some men looking at me strangely. I ignored them as I was in the banking hall and felt a bit safe. "As I was walking out of the banking hall towards my car, I noticed the men were following me. I got into my car and drove off as fast as I could. On reaching LekkiToll gate, they jumped out from a van, banged on my glass violently and demanded that I wound down my glass. I was shouting from inside my car, demanding to know who they were. ” One of them showed me an Identity card which read FCID with his picture and name on it. I calmed down a little bit and wound down, speaking to them. But one of them pushed my window down forcefully, opened my car door to allow his colleagues in. They seized my phone and started yelling at me ,saying I was into illegal dealings. “ I laughed and showed the person that earlier introduced himself to me, (Austin) my work details , my business information and also a CAC certificate to start operations in Nigeria. They told me to get to the back of my car, they handcuffed me and seized my phones. "When I got to the police station, they demanded N20 million for bail, which I thought was insane. They started making threats at me with their guns pointed at me, saying things like if I don’t cooperate they would put a placard on my neck and label me a fraudster and also parade me on television. They even threatened to shoot my ankle. “ At that point I started pleading with them to give me my phone so I can speak with my lawyer and a family member. They refused and said I would only get my phone if I was calling to ask for money for them, otherwise I would be locked up. "I demanded to speak to their superior who at the time was DSP Cordelia. She also showed no remorse towards me nor handled my matter professionally. Instead, she ordered them to lock me up if I didn’t pay. By then it was getting dark. They decided I was to be locked up in the cell with a bunch of criminals. While in the cell, I started thinking to myself what could happen if I didn't cooperate with them. The next morning when they came to the cells, I told them that I would pay and they said my bail money was N2 million , I agreed out of fear of uncertainty. One of the officers drove me to the bank where I withdrew N2 million cash and gave to them. The following day after I was set free, I started feeling sick and subsequently got diagnosed with malaria. A few days later I flew out of Nigeria to regain sanity. "Seeing the spotlight being put on these police officers is a major step forward in fighting corruption and also weeding out criminal elements within the police force. Officer Austin is a short light skinned officer and DSP Cordelia, the lady who apparently schooled in the UK with such a bad example. "I have the receipts of the forceful withdrawal made from my bank account and also video evidence of me in Alagbon. I have Austin’s phone number and his colleague's, Kenny ,who equally harassed and extorted me. I also have a lot of alibis in case this is needed in bringing these policemen to justice”, he stated. Moves to truncate investigation: From all indications, there are reportedly moves by some Nigerians to truncate ongoing investigation into the alleged extortion of N22 million bitcoin. Some of these moves, as reliably gathered, are from relatives and friends of top police officers, said to be prevailing on members of the Special Investigation Panel instituted by the IGP to carry out discreet investigations. Already, DSP Cordelia and the other Police personnel allegedly indicted in the report, were ordered to report to the Special Investigation Panel, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on December 21, 2021 to answer to the allegations against them. The Police High command in a statement signed by its Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, stated categorically that, “ the alleged actions of the Police Officers in question do not represent the standards and practices of the Nigeria Police Force and as such any officer found wanting will be visited with the full wrath of the law. Members of the public are enjoined to remain calm as the Force will provide timely updates and make the outcome of the investigation public”, Mba urged. BY PRINCESS AGBONIFO

He explained that Chief Aguene has done so well since he assumed office and has taken Ohanaeze Ndigbo to the next level to the delights of the Igbo people in Lagos State. Eze Offia stated that Chief Aguene is accepted by every Igbo person in Lagos State and he should continue because a winning team cannot be changed. “I give him 100 percent support for him to continue and he will surely continue as President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,Lagos State” he said. With the endorsement, the coast is now clear for the amiable Igbo leader, Chief Aguene, for a second tenure as the Igbo people in Lagos seem to have realised his leadership potentials and now want him to continue as President. The chances became brighter when the Igbo King maker, Lagos State, Prince Chukwuemeka Onuoha, declared that there was no rotation of Ohanaeze Presidency in Lagos State, stressing that the position is open to any Igbo to contest for second tenure in line with the Constitution. This may have informed the decision of the Ohanaeze Women’s Wing from Badagry Local Government to pay a courtesy visit to Chief Ogbonna at the Ohanaeze Secretariat in Surulere area of Lagos, thanking him for what he has done to the less privileged in the society while asking him to continue to lead the Igbo in Lagos State. The former President of Igbo Speaking Community, Chief Chris Ekwilo, may have captured the feelings of majority of Ndigbo in Lagos State when he declared publicly at different fora that Chief Aguene was a prayer answered by God to the Igbo in Lagos. Chief Ekwilo explained that Chief Aguene has not only united the Igbo in Lagos State from Wards, Local Governments Areas and State with his leadership quality but has connected Ndigbo to the critical Igbo stakeholders, other ethnic groups and the Lagos State. Chief Aguene’s administration came with human face, truth and transparency, which a typical Igbo person wants in leadership. He has brought Ohanaeze to the limelight, connecting it to people that matters in the society and the host community with the likes of the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Grand Patron of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, Eze Uche Dimgba, Chief Oliver Akubueze, Council of traditional rulers led by Eze Chris Offia and many other respected Igbo leaders. P.M.EXPRESS reports that the endorsement may have finally sent strong signals to Igbo residents in Lagos including the traditional rulers, Council of elders, women, youths and other stakeholders, who are now in full support of Chief Aguene for second tenure for his ability at repositioning Ohanaeze in Lagos State. Prince Onuoha, who holds the title of Ugwumba in Bende, Abia State and Obi Ndigbo in Igbo-Elerin in Lagos, stated that he endorsed Aguene for second tenure because he has done extremely well by displaying leadership by example and protecting the interests of Ndigbo in the State. Chief Onuoha, also the Chairman/CEO Oman Logistics Limited, gave insight on the composition of the Ohanaeze and stated there is no rotation of power and single tenure, hinting that the position is open to every Igbo man including Chief Aguene if he wants to contest because he had only gone for one tenure. He explained that he was a pioneer member of Ohanaeze Lagos State and had occupied many positions before Ezendigbo Gburugburu, late Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, made him a king maker including Chief John Uche and Chief Osaai Igwe after Ohanaeze was formed in1998 in Lagos State. Onuoha stated that the Constitution of Ohanaeze was created by eminent Igbo people such as Professor Ben Nwabueze, Professor Anya O. Anya and many others eminent Igbos, who ensured the structure of Ohanaeze was in line with protection and prosperity of every Igbo person anywhere they resides. On the creation of Ezendigbo, he explained that the Ohanaeze constitution made it clear that there cannot be two Ezendigbo in one Local Government and where there is a Baale in such locality, the leader of Ndigbo in such area will be called Obi Ndigbo, who must link up with the Ezendigbo in the Local Government for dissemination of information to the Igbo in such areas. On why he is championing for Chief Aguene for second tenure, Onuoha stated that since Aguene took over three years ago, there has been a new face of Ohanaeze, stating that he has performed wonders and connected Igbo to the Lagos State Government. He further stated that apart from connecting Igbo to the Government, Aguene has brought peace in Ohanaeze indeed the Igbo in Lagos State with his transparency, honesty and human kindness. Onuoha noted that the past leadership of Ohanaeze led the organization either from their homes or hotels, but when Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene took over, the first thing he did was to get a befitting Igbo Secretariat, know as Igbo House in Surulere. “Today, there is direction, focus and trust among the Igbo because Aguene is open and accommodates every Igbo with every sense of love and honesty and they believed in him.” “Chief Aguene united the Igbo and repositioned the bastardized traditional institution, known as Ezendigbo and built a strong relationship with the Lagos State Government. Today, Igbo people are recognized in Lagos State due to the leadership qualities of Aguene and every Igbo man wants him to consolidate on the gains of true leadership hence the endorsement.” When Chief Solomon Aguene emerged as President, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos in 2018, many Igbo people believed he would toe the normal way of his predecessors. But today, he has changed the narrative. The present Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos has gained more popularity both home and abroad under the leadership of Chief Solomon Ogbonna and Ndigbo are well respected in Lagos because of him. His administration came with human face, truth and transparency, which a typical Igbo person wants in leadership. Today, Ohanaeze Lagos State, has a new face via Chief Solomon Ogbonna, who they so much trusted that he can deliver the dividends of good leadership, which he has been doing since he took over the leadership. The former President of Igbo Speaking Community, Chief Chris Ekwilo, captured the feelings of majority of Ndigbo in Lagos State when he declared publicly at different fora that Chief Aguene was a prayer answered by God to the Igbo in Lagos. Chief Ekwilo explained that Chief Aguene has not only united the Igbo in Lagos State from Wards, Local Governments Areas and State with his leadership qualities but has connected Ndigbo to the critical Igbo stakeholders, other ethnic groups and the Lagos State Government. Indeed, the Igbo people have seen, believed and they want continuity in order to consolidate on the achievements of Chief Ogbonna with his transformation agenda for good leadership in Lagos State for the good of Ndigbo as the endorsements continue from different Igbo groups in Lagos State.

WAEC ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF RESULTS FOR THE WEST AFRICAN SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (WASSCE) FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2021 ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2021 AT THE WAEC NATIONAL OFFICE, YABA,LAGOS Speaking during a press brief with Gentlemen of the media, Patrick E. Areghan, FCGP Head expressed his gratitude to God on behalf of the Registrar to Council, the Management and Staff of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, as he welcomes all to the press brief to officially announce the release of the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2021 in Nigeria. The examination, which was an international one, took place simultaneously throughout the five member countries of the Council – The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone, using the same International Timetable. The examination spanned seven weeks, between August 16 and October 8, 2021. Throughout the period, we were faced with serious security challenges in the South East (IPOB and ESN sit-at-home order) and banditry, kidnapping, insurgency, etc, in the north and other parts of the country. All these, coupled with the continuous effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic, made the whole exercise an Herculean one. In conducting the examination, we were guided by the various measures/ protocols rolled out by the Federal and various State governments, aimed at checking the spread of the Corona Virus Disease. The Coordination of Examiners and Marking of Candidates’ Scripts took place at Eighty Five (85) traditional and three (3) e-Marking Venues throughout the country. A total of Seventy Seven Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty-Eight (77,368) Examiners participated in the coordination and marking exercise. The examination ended on October 8, 2021 and today, Monday, November 22, 2021 – 45 days after the conduct of the last paper, we are releasing the result! This is a record time, taking into consideration the fact that we lost a week to insecurity, during the marking exercise in the South East, occasioned by the heightened tension before and during the Anambra Gubernatorial election. It is, therefore, not true, as you can see, that WAEC delayed the release of the results of the WASSCE (SC) 2021 as is being speculated in some quarters. We have kept to our promise, in spite of all odds. We should be praised rather than being vilified. Nothing can be faster or earlier than what we have done. We do not release results without marking the scripts and processing the scores. We are grateful to the examiners for doing a good job within the stipulated period. Addressing the media, he further stated that the Council in Nigeria has continued to reposition itself by the deployment of technology in most of its operations to enhance its service delivery to stakeholders, hence, this has positively affected our prompt release of results. Today, I am happy to inform you that all the processes leading to the release of results have been completed. It is now my pleasure to announce the release of the results of candidates that sat the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, 2021 in Nigeria. A total of One Million, Five Hundred and Seventy Three Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty Nine (1,573,849) candidates registered for the examination from Nineteen Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty Five (19,425) recognised secondary schools in the country. Of the number that registered for the examination, One Million, Five Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty One (1,560,261) candidates sat the examination. The examination was also administered to candidates from some schools in Benin Republic and Cote d’Ivoire, where the Nigeria curriculum for Senior Secondary School is being used. Schools in Equatorial Guinea could not present candidates for the examination due to logistic challenges posed by COVID-19. Reporting that a total of One Thousand, Five Hundred and Thirty Nine (1,539) candidates, with varying degrees of Special Needs, registered for the examination. Out of this number, Four Hundred and Sixty (460) were visually challenged, Five Hundred and Eighty Two (582) had impaired hearing; Three Hundred and Sixty Two (362) were spastic cum mentally challenged and Fifty Nine (59) were physically challenged. All these candidates were adequately provided for in the administration of the examination. The results of these candidates have been processed and are also being released along with those of other candidates, he said. Of the total number of One Million, Five Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty One (1,560,261) candidates that sat the examination, Seven Hundred and Eighty Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Seventy Seven (784,677) were males while Seven Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand, Five Hundred and Eighty Four (775,584) were females, representing 50.29% and 49.71%, respectively. Out of the total number of candidates that sat the examination in Nigeria, One Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand, Nine Hundred and Ninety (1,256,990) candidates, representing 80.56% have their results fully processed and released while Three Hundred and Three Thousand, Two Hundred and Seventy One (303,271) candidates, representing 19.44% have a few of their subjects still being processed due to some issues being resolved. Efforts are, however, being made to speedily complete the processing to enable all the affected candidates get their results fully processed and released within the next one week. The analysis of the statistics of the performance of candidates in the examination shows that out of the One Million, Five Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Two Hundred and Sixty One (1,560,261) candidates that sat the examination, One Million, Three Hundred and Ninety Eight Thousand, Three Hundred and Seventy (1,398,370) candidates, representing 89.62%, obtained credit and above in a minimum of any five (5) subjects (i.e with or without English Language and/ or Mathematics; One Million, Two Hundred and Seventy Four Thousand, Seven Hundred and Eighty Four (1,274,784) candidates, representing 81.7%, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Of this number, Six Hundred and Thirty Thousand, One Hundred and Thirty Eight (630,138) i.e. 49.43% were male candidates, while Six Hundred and Forty Four Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty Six (644,646) i.e. 50.57% were female candidates. The percentage of candidates in this category in the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2020, that is, those who obtained credit and above in a minimum of five (5) subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, was 65.24%. Thus, there is an appreciable 16.46% improvement in performance in this regard. The results of One Hundred and Seventy Thousand, One Hundred and Forty Six (170,146) candidates, representing 10.9% of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, are being withheld in connection with various reported cases of examination malpractice. Of great worry here is the activities of rogue-website operators and some other social media platforms, who post examination questions online immediately after the commencement of the paper being administered. The increasing use of cell phones in the examination hall, in spite of the existing ban, and organized cheating in some schools, are other big concerns. All the cases are being investigated and reports of the investigations will be presented to the appropriate Committee of the Council for determination in due course. The Committee’s decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates through their various schools. He noted during the briefing that the results are being uploaded on the results website. Candidates who sat the examination and who have fulfilled their financial obligations to the Council can access their performance on the Council’s results website: www.waecdirect.org. Needless restating the fact that the results of indebted candidates/Schools/States will not be released until they pay up. The Result Checker PIN and Serial Number required by candidates to check their results online are contained on the Candidate’s Smart Identity Card used during the conduct of the examination. Certificates of candidates whose results have been fully processed and released will be ready within the next 90 days, counting from today. GENERAL Using the opportunity of a briefing with the media, the FCGP Head acquainted the media and other stakeholders with the latest developments in the operations of the Council. 1. WASSCE FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2022 (1) Period for the Examination He thanked the Federal and the various Ministries of Education for working so hard to stabilize the academic calendar. Accordingly, as a result of the return to normalcy, the Honourable Minister of Education has requested that the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022 should be conducted in May/June 2022. This position has been communicated to the Registrar to Council in Accra and he has assured us that it will be reckoned with in drawing up the International Time-table for the examination. And so, by the special grace of God, the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022 will be taking place in May/June 2022. Entries for the examination will be floated on Monday, December 6, 2021. (2) Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS) All schools are to willy-nilly upload the CASS of their candidates as earlier stipulated – SSI and SSII in the respective years and SSIII during the registration of candidates. It is important to note that there is always no result without Continuous Assessment Scores (CASS), which are always standardized before use. We appeal to schools to co-operate with us to avoid the hiccups experienced in 2021. (3) National Identification Number (NIN) Another component of the registration requirements will be the National Identification Number (NIN) of candidates. Schools will be expected to supply the NIN of every candidate as part of the registration requirements. This is in line with the directive of the Honourable Minister of Education. We advise all schools to comply accordingly. They should ensure that all their SSIII students and indeed, all students register to obtain their NIN in order to make the registration process seamless. (4) New Registration/Entry Fee Owing to the devastating effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic which has brought the global economy to its knees, the unabating spiraling inflation in the country as can be seen in the general cost of doing business and the multiplier effect of the unabating insecurity in the country, which have consequential effects on the cost of our operations, it is no longer possible to continue to provide services with the current fee of N13,950.00 per candidate. Furthermore, our ad-hoc workers – Supervisors, Examiners, Checkers, item Writers and indeed, all examination functionaries, have been agitating for improved remunerations. We have received approval from the appropriate quarters with effect from the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022, to charge N18,000.00 per candidate. We are, therefore, asking all school principals to collect N18,000.00 per candidate for registration. A part of this new fee has been dedicated to the enhancement of the remunerations for the various examination functionaries and our Governing Board has graciously approved the remunerations, which will come into effect from the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2022. Any amount beyond this ceiling will not be to our consent or knowledge and will definitely not come to the purse of the West African Examinations Council. (5) WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021 – Second Series The WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2021 – Second Series is currently on-going. The examination which started on November 12, 2021 will end in December 22, 2021. There is provision for entry as a walk-in-candidate throughout the duration of the examination. You can enroll a day to the date of the paper you wish to take and simply walk into the examination hall to take it. This is also an international examination. The result is expected to be released 45 days after the conduct of the last paper. (6) WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2022 – First Series This is also a Private Candidates examination. It will take place from February 2 to February 18, 2022. The entry will be floated in due course. There will also be provision for walk-in-candidates. The result will also be released 45 days after the conduct of the examination. Why the Series of Examinations? The various examination diets have been derived to address or reduce the waiting time for the release of results and hence, avail candidates endless opportunities to obtain their papers and enable them to access tertiary education without any loss of time. The available opportunities also equip them for gainful employment and other endeavours. (7) WAEC Verify The Council has successfully launched the use of WAEC VERIFY Platform to checkmate result falsification by candidates and other stakeholders. WAEC Verfiy provides access to tertiary institutions to integrate the result verifier directly on their admission platforms. This facilitates the verification of intending students’ credentials, thus making admission and verification processes seamless. ( Rebranded WAEC – Info BoxWAEC Nigeria has launched a rebranded WAEC Info-Box which is aired on some national Television channels every Sunday (Silverbird Television and TVC by 3:30pm and 9:00pm, respectively). This is used to campaign against examination malpractice, stress the need to maintain integrity of WAEC examinations and enlighten stakeholders on the activities of WAEC, generally. (9) WAEC CHATBOT WAEC Chatbot, which is an online communication channel between WAEC and its stakeholders has been launched to help reach out to many candidates and other stakeholders who have one enquiry or the other to make. They can now access WAEC services, real time, online in the comfort of their homes without necessarily traveling to visit any WAEC office. (10) Digital Certificates We have been working with a technology company on certificate digitalization. We are now ready with the product and it will soon be launched. This will make it possible for candidates and stakeholders to access the exact replica or images of candidates’ certificates online, real time. The electronic image remains, even in cases of fire or other natural disasters. It can be carried on cell phones and other electronic gadgets. It makes it easier to authenticate the genuineness of certificates. I'm conclusion, he stated that the Management and entire Staff of the Council in Nigeria, wish to express their profound gratitude to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Honourable Minister of Education, Minister of State for Education and the various State Governments, for providing an enabling environment for the successful conduct of the WASSC examination for School Candidates, 2021. He extended his gratitude to all the Supervisors, Invigilators, Custodians, Examiners and other Ad-hoc personnel for their contributions towards the successful conduct of the examination and marking of scripts. Our sincere appreciation equally goes to the Chairmen and Members of the Senate and House Committees on Basic & Secondary Education, Chairman and Members of the Nigeria Administrative and Finance Committee of WAEC, all retired staff of the Council (for their continuous prayers and support) other Friends of the Council, ANCOPSS, and the Nigeria Police for their assistance and cooperation before, during and after the conduct of the examination.
