PoliticsRe: The Battle For Senate Presidency: PDP Has The Upper-hand by OnReflection: 7:52pm On Sep 23, 2015
TonyeBarcanista:
The Upper-hand Is With PDP:
The Senate composes of 109 Senators. The PDP has 49, while the APC enjoys 60. Of the APC 60, about 12(including Saraki) are seen as rebels and has been ostracised by their party. The PDP must meet these pro-Saraki APC minority group to present a PDP candidate from NC as Saraki's successor(anybody but David Mark). The APC rebels should be rewarded with membership/chairmanship of choice standing committees. With 61 senators(49 PDP Se+ 12 APC) behind PDP candiate, the party stand as "Majority" to defeat whoever the gods of APC present as their candidate because APC will be left with 48 senators. A very wide majority. Considering that PDP need a minimum 55 senators for this battle, 61 will be more than required. This is enough to humble APC.

Saraki Must Make Up With PDP
As for Bukola Saraki, he is unfortunate to be served the same meal he served former president Goodluck Jonathan and PDP. However, he has to repent and respond to his alleged offence. But, he should be told that the only way he can redeem his betrayals towards PDP is by supporting a PDP candidate to succeed him. This will also defeat the evil mechanism of Buhari and other APC gods.

Finally, the PDP must not let go of this rare opportunity to legitimately control the Senate and have the Umbrella standing in the office of the Senate President. Buhari will have no choice but to work with PDP-led Senate.

Let's teach APC how to play politics.

The Chancellor of Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) and Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has pledged to pay four- year wages of 15 science- based professors to teach at the university.

In a press statement addressed to LEADERSHIP in Kano to mark the 15- year anniversary of the university, the Vice Chancellor, KUST, Prof Shehu Alhaji Musa added that the business mogul has also promised to construct houses for the professors.

The vice chancellor stated that the university is currently undergoing serious improvement in all spheres where an international acclaimed university wishes to be.

According to him, capital projects worth N8 billion are either completed, ongoing or on early stage of development, from individuals, Tetfund sponsored projects, as well as the state government.

He noted that the university is in collaboration with various stakeholders from within and outside Nigeria in view of making the varsity best among equals.

Alhaji explained that the university has made huge progress in the last 18 months and that has been achievable with the support of his dedicated academic and non- academic staff.

Prof Alhaji revealed that the university has produced four professors and scores of PhD holders as well as other qualified teachers who are currently studying in various universities across the world.

Ikpeazu Condoles with Awolowo Family over Death of Matriarch

September 20, 2015

https://metrowatchonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/ikpeazu1.jpg

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has expressed his condolence to the family of the late Nigerian statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, over the demise of the matriarch of the Awolowo clan, Hannah Idowu Dideolu, who passed on yesterday at the age of 99.

Governor Ikpeazu extends the sincere feelings of the good people of Abia State to the family of Awolowo, the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and to the great people of Ogun State for the vacuum that has been created in the social and political life of the people by the death of the famed matriarch.

The Governor noted that, until her death, HID was the “living tree” of the South West political history and stood as the rallying point of all political leaning in the South West, having married a man whom the Yoruba see as their political symbol.

He noted that, until yesterday, HID was the living representation of that symbol and therefore commiserates with the entire people of the South West over the irreparable loss.

Governor Ikpeazu described HID as a woman of courage and resilience who stood doggedly behind her husband throughout his embattled life as a foremost Nigerian politician and community leader and prayed God to grant her soul an eternal rest.

He also prayed God to console her family, relatives, the people of Ogun State and the entire Yoruba race who must surely be touched by the passing on of the legendary matriarch.

PoliticsRe: How Bukola Saraki's Trial Confirms/Expose The Insincerity Of Buhari And APC by OnReflection:
TonyeBarcanista,

Although I plan to fact-check the veracity of some of the claims made in your post, when I can spare time later, it is beyond question that you raise several salient points. It is true that hypocrisy is the bane of politics in Nigeria today, at both a personal and national level. And yes it is also evident that, unlike what obtains in saner climes, all federal agencies including those tasked with oversight functions have been compromised.

Now despite being in accord with your observations, I do have a poser for you. Please cite just one example of any milieu in the world where ALL corrupt individuals were made to account for their actions at the same time. Bear in mind now that our society is one that just happens to be saddled with what an Irish political commentator once described as 'horizontal corruption' - with tentacles not only extending across all known agencies but also holding an entire population in its grip. My point - short of resetting the clock back to 'year zero' as the Khmer Rouge did in Cambodia with disastrous consequences, you are hardly likely to find any worthy example. Even the government of China takes a considered approach, by choosing the appropriate time to prosecute high profile individuals, in order to send out a message.

Chinese authorities say the arrests are part of the Communist Party’s latest anticorruption campaign — and they include the arrest last month of four employees of the British-Australian mining giant, Rio Tinto, on bribery charges.

But analysts say that prominent corruption cases in China are often the outgrowth of power struggles within the Communist Party, with competing factions using the “war on corruption” as a tool to eliminate or weaken rivals and their corporate supporters.
Source: NewYork Times

It is with the foregoing in mind that I regard your cries of insincerity as a distraction. This is especially so because I recall just how muted you and other TANoids were during the course of Jonathan's administration, which was characterised by ineptitude and indifference to corruption. I agree that the APC government does harbour sacred cows who should, in the fullness of time, get their own comeuppance too. But please do not expect me to mount a soapbox with cries of hypocrisy, as you do every other day, when your hero recorded no notable convictions.

While it is clear that Buhari's anti-corruption campaign is likely to be selective to an extent, I think most Nigerians are prepared to swallow this bitter-sweet pill.

man with all the long epistle you have written on almost all page just goes to prove how envious you are of the IGBO people success, why didn't you spend much time disapproving that (result)of the Chinese, indians or the other African people who a lot better than your tribe the luganda but you find it so convenient challenging our own report because it put the igbos ahead of you lads. This is not about chest pumping or beating or what ever you call it, but its clear to all unbiased mind that the igbos are far superior being in Nigeria to any other tribe, that's why there so much envy in any part of Nigeria the igbos settle. please don't hang your self on a report that took thousands of man hour resarch to come to an unfortunate conclusion that proves what we already know in Nigeria to be true that Igbo are the best in everything the lay there hand on.
You've merely confirmed my point - more vacuous reasoning.

Even though my intervention on this thread was intended to inject clarity, reposed with a 'persecution complex' (which is not entirely baseless, by the way), you stand logic on its head just like so many others.

@ excerpt in bold - that's the crux of the matter, and it's problematic. The jingoism defeated the purpose of the stat and the radical improvements being made in inner city schools. And rather than focus on what the government is doing to bridge the gap between disadvantaged ethnic minorities, in messed up catchment areas - where the schools used to be utterly terrible - and folks from better areas with access to better schools, these folks are using it as a premise for ethnic supremacy and that's troubling.

I'm not even defending Yorubas here - I did the same on a next thread in the family section a few weeks ago when folks were posting ridiculous stats to show that black African kids in the UK are superior to Caribbean kids, without considering a lot of factors. At the end of the day, black folks are still at the bottom of the totem pole of everything and a lot of factors play into that.
Exactimo Shymm3x.
From playing up some synergy with the people of Israel, to ideas about keeping the bloodline pure, this thread has featured some of the most invidious arguments I have read in a long time.

Now if such bigoted rants were merely confined to a small section of NL, perhaps one could overlook them altogether.

Lol. These folks are even terrible at chest-beating...they labelled themselves as the most brilliant African race based on a flawed stat, despite Luganda speakers from Uganda topping the stat they provided.

What the stat did was to show the improvements made since 2009 in the inner city schools (public schools), and that's evident in how the Yoruba kids went from 39% pass to 75% within two years, since most of the Yorubas in Lambeth live in the most disadvantaged areas (Brixton, Stockwell, and Kennington) - while the few Igbos in the borough live in better areas like Streatham, and Clapham - and they mostly attend Catholic schools. It's also evident in the performance of Ghanaian kids since there's a huge Ghanaian population in Streatham. It's just common sense and nothing to brag about.

I guess it's safe to say that Ugandans are more intelligent than Nigerians - bwahahaha. I'd wager that they'll disagree with that, but that's what's on the stat they're touting for vacuous academic supremacy.

Anyway, I want to see the stat for Tottenham, since there's a huge population of Igbos there. grin grin grin
I won't even begrudge the Igbo, the Lugandans, the Krios, or any other group for their well earned achievements.
The problem here is not the limited report itself, which is perfectly clear on the results it advances, but with reprobates whose stock-in-trade is ethnic jingoism.

truly your bitterness and hatred for IGBOS is incurable. your case is deliverance case.
Hatred and bitterness for Igbos? Au contraire, nothing could be further from the truth.
What I do loathe, however, is any inherent bias which makes the truth malleable.

When an Igbo Professor who claims to have discovered the cure for aids, thereby exposing UNIBEN to ridicule, gets called out - it has to be 'hatred and bitterness'. When Emeagwali's exaggerated falsehood gets torn to shreds, it also has to be 'hatred and bitterness'.
If it hurts so much to have certain unproven claims and unearned accolades dismissed by objective commentators, then keep them to yourself.

http://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov.uk/20130401151715/http://www.education.gov.uk/publications/eOrderingDownload/RTP01-03MIG1734.pdf

The UK government doesn't even do classifications based on ethnic groups within a country. I honestly don't know where these plonkers got the Lambeth link from. And even if Igbos outperformed Yorubas in Lambeth in 2009 and 2010, but both were almost on the same level in 2011 - how does that make Igbo the most brilliant African race?

How about the Luganda folks who outperformed everyone in 2011? Shouldn't Luganda speakers be the most brilliant of them all? I guess Ugandans are smarter than Nigerians then, based on the stats, no?
^^^LoL.
Shymm3x, you've got to allow it bruv.
As soon as I saw those tables, I knew precisely where they came from - by virtue of some work I undertook in SouthWOK some 20-odd years ago.

What is interesting here is that, with no real understanding of how the system works, it comes as no surprise that the untutored mind distorts the conclusions reached in a report which was intended to serve a specific purpose.

Frankly, I don't think this chest-thumping business is doing anyone any good. It saddened me to see the way Haiti was inadvertenly dragged in the mud earlier on, for instance.
Then again, I suppose since one has to break an egg to make an omelette, all fallacies must be debunked by all means necessary. grin

In any conversation we should agree terminology and be sure we are all talking about the same thing.

On this thread when we say "THE STUDY" are we all talking about the same thing? I think not. It seems many believe the information presented by the OP is "THE STUDY". That is my point. He has not said otherwise

For you to suggest we are all talking about the Lambeth study which is not reproduced on this thread is ,at best ,naive. How can that be? How many participants here have read it or are aware of it?
Now you are just being obtuse for reasons that are far from clear.
Here is what I wrote in the last post you responded to:

Of course he was being rather disingenuous, by conflating various strands of information which are completely unrelated, but then since you and I already know that much; what is the problem?
Now tell me; do the following tables, which he included in @OP, come from the US?

With respect sir.unless you are choosing to be spokesman for the OP he did not mention this Lambeth study,in fact the title of this thread is US 2015 report or something like that and I personally asked him for a source and he gave me a link to a blog which listed a long bibliography so it is presumptuous of you,I think, to hold the forte for the OP and say it is THE LAMBETH STUDY. LAMBETH is not in the US and much of the information relate to the US too.

Unless the OP says so I have not seen any reason to assume THE link you provided is the central basis for his thesis.
Now if we assume that to be the case or he comes out to say so then we can debate the study and whether it actually concludes what we are being told about Ibos
The charts he presented, which I took issue with, come from a report written by Lambeth.
What is so difficult to understand here?

Of course he was being rather disingenuous, by conflating various strands of information which are completely unrelated, but then since you and I already know that much; what is the problem?

My intervention has been focused on setting the records straight for the UK and nothing more, so it is probably best that you go back over my posts.

Where was it published

What kind of research exactly are we talking about exactly e,g primary.secondary

What is the size of the population it "STUDIED"
How long did it take

This is one of the reasons i like @areonakakanfo and @totit they respond with counter facts and disputes frivolous facts

In as much as i agree with @onReflections premise i believe as other ethnic tribes in Nigeria and West Africa we should the ndi Igbo props; as a tribe they have risen from annihilation to compete at the peak. as a Yoruba person i respect them for that and it shows they are a force to be reckoned with; they rival the Yoruba race in almost all spheres which is a great feat to pull off.

I believe sometime in the future when we are rid of our illiterate leaders both groups will be able to work together to navigate the greatness of the Black man in the world.

As young people, lets cultivate the habit of competitive rivalries that can uplift our tribes and thus improve and stimulate the black race as a whole and the onus is on us to show the Northern regions the light of education, build their people and also learn their strengths
