lucabrasi:that is our problem as black people as a whole. we wait for the white man/woman to come and help us. Look at movies, shows, etc. any time you see charity work going on, it is from the help of white people. Even growing up in the states i see this same problem. The white guy is the one who sets up after school programs and volunteers time. i think as black people as a whole we have this mentality that it is every man for themselves. like all think if you dont do something for me i aint doing nothing for you. we as a whole must get past this mentality. we are basically seeing our children, people, gov't demolish before our very eyes. |
ifyalways:hmmm really?? i must have over read it. yeah it is much harder to read then to hear it being spoken. ![]() well i guess one of yal could give me a sentence to see if i could translate. ![]() |
JeSoul:They Rockets saw what they could do if they work as a team and play smart. i mean that winning streak is just the tip of the ice berg for the Rockets. Seeing in what they can do, will bring them back confident and hungry then ever. And the next you know, they win the play offs and we be the one on the streets parading around with the championship trophy in its rightful home. |
lucabrasi:It pisses us of too, in the States. we all know that Naija has to the ability to be up there with the U.K and the U.S. but us living aboard can only do so much. Yes we can send food, medicine, clothes, but eventually these people are going to want to see progress. It is nice to hear that you are doing your part to help but why not start to branch out?? have your community help you to start an after school program to keep kids from doing things they should be doing. Get the church involved. in the states, the church is the heart of the community. |
JeSoul:Yeah, but you are going to have to wait another 24 years for that to happen |
SAUCEKID!!!! omg, he came to houston once and just killed it. i loved it. ![]() |
@ hero Was Abia State the only one you went to?? |
lucabrasi:Yes i live aboard but i do what i can to help. Me, i started an organization to send basic needs to people in Sierra Leone. My parents and their friends raise money every year to send money to better hospitals. So dont give me that. it is just that yall rather sit around in your friends house in front of a television eating Kola Nut and complain about the Nigerian Society. Set up things to help your people. Work together as a community to help fix roads, help send our children to college. Im tired of seeing smart young brothas you are nigeria have their talent wasted and end you as armed robbers. you dont need to wait for the gov't to change your life. I know yal can come together as people because we do it all the time when we go to these all night long Nigerian parties. use that energy to help rebuild a school. Or start up a fund to help better our hospitals. We all can do something. God helps those you help themselves. |
Man if Tyson Beckford just came up to me and proposed, who am I to refuse. ![]() |
CH3COO:and we all know that the gov't is corrupt right. we can agree on that. so why do we depend so much on them?? we know they are no good but some how feel they will deliver us from the problem. if the PEOPLE dont start to take charge of their country, naija as a whole will demolish and the people with it. |
@ lazy a lot of these people are just looking out for themselves. they rather sit around with their buddies with their kola nut and whine and gripe about the state in which nigeria is. but those same people will keep quiet when giving the chance to make a change. when asked for money to help organizations, they refuse to give. saying that nothing will ever change. with people thinking this way nigeria will demolish and the people with it. |
@ all it is not just the president, foreign partners, but nigeria as a whole. why do we as nigerians sit around and complain but when the time comes to speak we go mute?? we all have faults in this problem. we as people depend so much on our leaders to some how deliver us from the commotion as a country we put our selves in. why don't we as people stand up and take charge. we see bad roads, we fix them. we see bad schools, we as a community rebuild them. |
madamkoko:so are you saying that nigeria should pull away from foreign affairs?? i understand what you are saying but how could we go about this?? our economy depends on these people. |
@Lazy people dont understand it is not the leaders who do every thing but the people. it is like an army. it is the troops who see the needs and do the work. |
i feel the nigerians themselves should stop waiting around for this wanna be president. if you see something wrong in your community, take charge and fix it. you guys know that the Nigeria has so much to offer. but where does that money go, not to good use. instead of importing foreign cars you only drive once, save money and put it to good us. start a committee of people to some how better the roads, the schools, the youth. just a thought. |
Personally i feel that we as black people are not on the sense of corrupt but more lost. we as people wait for leaders to do everything. we wait say "oh it's such and such responsibilty" but it is all of ours. how did the Civil Rights happen in the States?? It just wasn't leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., it was the people. the people took the intiative. we need to stop waiting and saying that nothing is ever going to change. in stead of waiting to build better roads, use some of that money you use to ship foreign cars and start an organization. All of us as black people just wait for controversy to simulate us to take action. when you see things are bad in your community, take charge. dont wait for the next generation to deal with what you could have put an end to. |
Dakore:that is exactly what i love about quite guys. there is something mysterious about them that you just want to get to know more and figure out. Me personally i like guys who are the quiet, poetic, intelligent type. people think because they are quiet that most be dull. but to tell yall the truth, my best conversations came from guys who were deemed as the "shy quiet" type. |
I recently was viewing the news and President Bush, as last deed as a leader, he is starting a "campaign" for all the world leaders to help Africa as a whole. Personally i feel in theory it sounds nice but in reality it will be tossed aside. There are always people who claim to help Africa but they seem to fall short. If they do help they usually go to the same countries of South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, and etc. what about all the other countries suffering. I would like to know yal's view if you think this is all a "scam" from the President or it is something that might bring change. |
CH3COO:Oh heck naw!!! what in all that is reasonable would you even dare call any woman a squirrel??EWU!!!! and all those personalities of guys u just described contradict each other. |
i loved how you described your "love" for nigeria in a sense of a woman. the way you described her emotions and senses was incredible. what she likes and how she acts. i mean i dont know if i could ever put as much imagery in my poetry. got any tips?? |
quiet guys are mysterious. when you encounter one, they dont say much but there is so much you wanna know. so it draws you in. it is our natural sense of curiosity. |
ifyalways:1. yeah most of my igbo friends are american born too, so they cant speak it either 2. of course i would love to learn how to speak the language. 3. well uhmm. . . i believe you asked me where i am? correct me if im wrong. |
ifyalways:yeah my parents speak the language but i can only say phrases back to them. yeah i go to naija every few years. but i try to speak the language but i have this thick english accent. |
the only hope i have is that maybe the Houston Rockets will come and bring home the championship to its rightful place. im very confident in the team this year. if a team like celtics can, then any thing is possible. |
Hero:yes, i believe it is October 1st. we celebrate here in houston every year. and i have a blast. they also celebrate it in New York. |
yeah i was born in the states so i was hoping you guys could translate for me?? i have a heard time reading igbo. |

EXPONENT:i know you trying to bring us together as people, but by calling people of darker skin color "darkies" you are only bringing them down. |
