alfa you tried with your own opinion though. My 2 cents I think that thaere is no country under the face of the Earth that does not have corruption. As long as human greed abounds, selfish interest often fights against common interest. And what is 'common interest' varies from perspectives. The USA tries to act as the Law to the rest of the world but it is in the same country that we saw the level of corporate corruption that sank the likes of Enron, Arthur Anderson, etc, Giants in their field. Even the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark etc) which boast of the best managed economies would have traces of corruption. The differnce between the level of corruption in Country A (Nigeria for example) and Country B (Ghana for example) is a factor of a few things including but not limited to the following: The level of Greed of the leaders and the led The value sytem of the people The control systems in both Public and Private sector The level of Greed among Nigerian leaders and Nigerians is very high, way higher than in many countries. This is why scams worth billions of Naira is no big deal to the average Nigerian. This includes the Nigerian in govt, the one in the private sector and the one doing Yahoo+ The Value system here encourages and abates fraud. If I steal enough money to be able to contest the Senatorial seat of my town, the chances are that I might bribe my way through to the National Assembly, become the Senatorial face of Anambra state and one of your leaders. Nobody questions where I got my money from and even if anyone does, the question will be "Is he the only one?" I could be the traditional ruler of my town just because I can afford it. This is the society you and I come from. In China, Japan, South Korea and most Asian countries, most top ministers commit suicide for corruption charges. In China in particular, the chances is that the corrupt officer is executed if found guilty. In Nigeria, you are celebrated and even encouraged to contest for the Presidency. The control system to check fraud in Nigeria is so weak and little wonder, it is set up by the powers that be, which are corrupt themselves. How many Nigerians pay tax? Pose this question to UK or American citizens and you will get the picture. In the UK, you inhale and exhale tax. How many wealthy men/women pay tax in Nigeria? Can you try it in the USA, UK or the Scandinavian countries? No! The most efficient control sytems to have come out of Nigeria in recent times are the NAFDAC and the EFCC. The Director of the former (Dr Dora Akunyili) has survived several assassination attempts for trying to curb corruption in her jurisdiction. The latter (EFCC) has been made a lame duck by the present administration and corrupt politicians are once again roaming scot-free in this country. Dr orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia state recently purchased 9 ships valued at about N31 billion Naira for God knows what! EFCC under its former leader (Malam Nuhu Ribadu) stepped on toes, big toes and look at the huniliation that both the outfit and its former leader is currently facing. I rest my case here. You can add your own. |

Romance / Re: Too Perfect by opokonwa(m): 3:32pm On Oct 16, 2008 |
@poster Just keep being yourself! The guy probably cannot comprehend why you're so cool. So all you need to do is keep being you irrespective of whatever tantrums he throws up. I had the same impression about my girl. I still do but not in the same word as 'perfect'. I had tried several times to unsettle her. I admit that I could be difficult at times. But somehow she seems to be pretty mature to handle my pressures. So what do I do? Give up on being difficult and accept her for who she is. |

My babe stays with me every single day. There is never a dull moment with her. Neither does she lose value before me. Hence the poster's game of 'making a man miss you by making yourself scarce' does not work with me. |

@alfaprime With all due respect to you, you're beginning to sound 'out of touch'. And I mean out-of-touch with the plight of Nigeria and Nigerians. It's like the USA has a way of making its 1st-time visitors from Nigeria begin to hallucinate. Whether Nigeria held her election an hour, day or minute after that of the USA, it cannot change the price of Garri in the market. Our political structure has never been modeled after the USA except of course on paper, where we adopt 'democracy'. I have long found out that the word 'democracy' means different things to different people and hence, is not identically applied everywhere. The problem peculiar with Nigeria and her 'leaders' is that we are currently ruled by some greedy, corrupt, occultic, never-aging, power-hungry folks. And this happens at all levels of the government. These folks re-cycle power among themselves, allies and croonies. Hence, I am not surprised that politicians who have been in the corridors power since my elementary school days still call the shots now. If they die or get tired of being on the fore-front of power, their self-appointed or annointed croonies take over. Nigeria is running a pseudo-feudalism in the name of democracy and the current power-brokers would never copy anything that may jeopardise their selfish clutch to power. Get your mind to the real issues at home my guy. Enjoy your stay in the USA. |

Politics / Re: MEND Declares Ceasefire In Niger Delta by opokonwa(m): 4:19pm On Sep 22, 2008 |
Both sides have probably suffered casualties. But it seems to me like MEND have suffered more than the JTF. Na person wey suffer pass na im dey first call for Cease Fire. MEND are buying time to re-strategize and recover from the beating they've probably taken from the JTF. And are lacing their 'beating' with tough words. |

paulipopo: Everything I had posted earlier is self-explanatory to even a half-informed. Your references speak for themselves. I have illustrated them. Your denial also speaks for itself. What I see above is not a problem of not understanding what I am saying. What I see is a problem of 'face saving' and denial. Who appointed you to warn anyone? Do you assume that your audience are largely ignorant? Do you think that you are saying something that we don't already know? Something new perhaps? Noooo. The much I can make from this thread and your elaborate efforts is that you were entertaining a lot of us. That is why you were being cheered by the 'class' esp in the beginning. Now you're beginning to sound boring. However, your flaws are very obvious. Even Seun has threatened to lock up the thread for gross plagiarism. And you hate being challenged by an equally scrutinizing mind. You expect an audience who will swallow everything you said like A B C without scrutinizing them? And lap you up like a demigod much as the pastors you so much criticize above? Well, not while some of us grace this thread. Post on brother. I would like to read more modules. |
Romance / Re: Ladies Please-tel Me The Truth-b4 A Saint Bcoms A Devil by opokonwa(m): 5:03pm On Sep 18, 2008 |
Neither be nice nor bad. Just be yourself. There is a lady out there for every type of man. There is a lady out there for you. You only need one. The way nature makes it, you will either find her or she finds you at the appropriate time. Any other thing before or after that ain't worth it. |
Religion / Re: How To Become A Super Rich Holy Businessman by opokonwa(m): 10:26am On Sep 18, 2008 |
paulipopo:One thing is openly judging others, another is taking responsibility for your actions. So far, you have refused to accept the latter. Kindly let me know what your references below imply? The pioneers of this kind of business are the best masters to learn from because they know all the tricks and have sufficient experience at their disposal. Interestingly they are mainly of American citizenship. The most notorious of them is evangelist Benny Hinn, who is best known for his extravagance, craftiness and pomposity. Is this passing judgement or what? Then there is equally another approach used successfully to deceive and milk people dry of their earthly treasures and that is the use of voodoo miracles. Do not confuse this with Holy Spirit inspired miracles which are genuine and which are often accompanied by sinners repenting and turning to God. Voodoo miracles achieve the exact opposite. They create fear in the minds of those who witness them and cause the weak at heart to look at the voodoo practitioner as an object of veneration quite contrary to what the disciples of Jesus Christ were known for. A very successful practitioner of this wicked science in Nigeria is a man named TB Joshua What about this? Don’t be as foolish as the likes of Jimmy swaggart, Peter popoff or Reverend King And this? rather adopt the craftiness of Benny Hinn And this? 3. Sale of money spinning daily devotionals with the face of the holy businessman or better still Church Proprietor/CEO and maybe his wife, that may be RHAPSODIES or simply episodes which appear to reflect REALITIES, but in totality is merely an avenue for lining their pockets. What about this one? Don't think that I would be one of those readers who may get carried away by your writing veracity and penchant for arguement but fail to point out to you your flaws where necessary. Whether you accept them or not is entirely your own responsibility. Much as I do not regard any of the personalities you mentioned above, their time of judgement will come. It is not my place to kick-start it. Anyone who has a certain level of the Spirit of God in him/her will somehow sense falsehood from the truth. Majority of Nigerians have made their choice consciously or unconsciously. You have made yours, I have made mine. That is what is important. |
Religion / Re: How To Become A Super Rich Holy Businessman by opokonwa(m): 2:08pm On Sep 16, 2008 |
What can I say I am late to the thread but I prefer it this way (having read many modules of the 'course') Paulipopo you caused quite a stir here and attracted many nairalanders Because you touched on a topic and named personalities that many Nigerians would not dare touch with a long pole; The pastors Nigerians are generally superstitious people and many believe it is not their place to criticize pastors Better to be safe than to 'touch the Lord's annoited'. Well they are right. Even David in the Bible would not kill King Saul when he had such opportunity because he feared God and understood his principles. Why do the work of God for God? Why not let HIM judge them when their time comes? Afterall, Jesus Christ in the Bible predicted that there shall arise many false prophets in his name. Is it not happening now? On the contrary, I do not only admire your audacity, I also admire your writing skills. The way you express yourself shows that you are not only informed but perhaps, you've been watching those pastors you mentioned and their 'abracadabra' antics for a long while. My instincts tells me that you cannot stomach it anymore hence exposing them here. I admire your courage. However, much as I admire your courage and your enterprise in venturing where angels fear to thread, I have to caution you. I also am disgusted by what I've watched of those pastors on tv. I also do not trust most of them. I feel the same disgust you feel about them. I have felt it for many years. But I know what you don't. That it is not my place to openly judge them. Their coming had been predicted more than two thousand years ago and hence their flourishing is no surprise. What is surprising to me is how gullible we humanbeings have become. That also I leave to God. But as far as there is hope to be given, miracles (no matter how fake) to be performed, disturbed minds to soothe and a market ready for them, these 'holy businesses' as you coined them will continue to thrive. |

Back to page 144 Pak 7 years ago, I was sitting in my dad's Sitting room watching CNN when I saw the plane hitting the twin towers To be frank, I didn't feel anything like Armageddon was coming. I only felt that the chain of events were interesting enough to keep me glued to boring CNN. In retrospect, I do not know who to blame; Osama Bin Laden and his Aqaeda troops or the USA who trained him, empowered him with dangerous weapons, gave him more than enough moral and logistic support and used him for evil against Russia in the Afghan war, then declared him the most wanted man on Planet Earth when that evil grew independent of them and turned its focus against them. The same thing they did with Saddam against Iran and when he grew powerful and stopped being a puppet of the USA, they piled up bad propaganda and rallied international pressure against him for years, finally invaded Iraq in search of unfounded weapons and toppled the regime. But one cannot cheat nature. America is paying for her dirty politics spending over $300 billion pursuing a protracted war and greed for oil. Don't even mention the loss of thousands of lives. The world is a political landscape including the media; they show you what they want you to know but all sides are evil. Both the Axis and the Allies. Jisi Your unkind words to Kenosky seem to have shut him up again. What's the fuss? Nobody go attack Nigeria, na we dey attack ourselves. Some bloodthirsty fanatics in the North killing christians over an unrelated cartoon originating from a Dannish (Denmark) newspaper or the Niger-Delta guys (MEND et al) fighting for self emancipation. All na politics! Or like Pak said PHCN already attacking us everyday with darkness, despair and disappointment, our politicians still syphoning our money under our very noses with big English, our hundreds of pastors getting richer everyday (even buying private jets) while the ever donating congregation gets leaner and keeps struggling, me beating an average of one-and-half hours and atimes two hours journey under hurrendous Lagos traffic to get to work everyday (3rd Mainland bridge partially blocked), we are under attack everyday! Pak Your pix Both are cute but the guy is the cuter of the two. The lady appears pregnant to me (don't ask me how I knew) and a bit rough-looking (forgive me her fans). LNG scam? I saw it on paper too. Sounds interesting Scams are not new in Nigeria, justice is. But FBI coming into Nigeria, that is a new one. Looking for a new bride? What happened to the old one? Obudu Cattle Ranch? Mmmh 've been there. Cold like crazy Boring as a grave if you go alone. But the sites are 'out of Naija' Best to go there either with friends, your boo or your sisi. Niger-Delta ministry? I think it's a very good move by this administration. The headache from that part of a nation long warranted a ministry. How the ministry will be managed to effectively address the needs and challenges of the ND is another issue. |

You guys deserve gold medals! Leave the bronze to Kenosky for filling the thread with renewed dumbness The silver remains unclaimed. We are entertaining most of our 'silent audience' again including Kuwena. Just check out the number of views on this thread and you will appreciate the statistics. Jisi You're still Ibo I don't know whom among the two men is your dad but both are handsome (I guess the taller one is). Those twins around the bridegroom (esp the one on his right) look like that Okoronkwo guy that played 7 in Dream Team IV That white flowergirl of your sis looks like a doll while the lady with my size of hair looks Jamaican And what's that tube you were in? Plane, boat, submarine or hovercraft's interior? Even the smile on your face as you sat there like an Angel shows enough mischief brewing in that mind. |
