mr boss man I hate arguing....d person in question have already commented on this trend abt his DE admission into medicine and as for his utme admission,I saw his admission letter with my eyes....am a medical laboratory scientist(practising) in a federal teaching hospital but I still went for DE just to read mbbs(u and I know that a medical laboratory scientist starting salary is slightly higher than an optometrist ,dia professional body is d weakest in medical field) ..so mr boss, mbbs and optometry aiint same and if you are truely an optometrist u probably would know that Nigeria is d worst place to practise optometry(I mean no disrespect boss),how much do de pay dia interns(optometry)?....broda when u go to to hospitals(federal) u see optomologist(mbbs graduates dat became specialist in optometry dpt) so me no blame d guy for opting for mbbs after optometry and I don't doubt him,cos I saw his admission letter into year 1 and in his PUDE screening photocard I saw course studied: optometry...happy sunday boss

In my case, i had appolo n wanted it to go dat instant it occured, i used a very harsh eyedrop n d following day my eye was completely covered, later i struggled to make it open n eventually treated d apolo. Later i started noticing my vision was blurred, so i ignored it feeling it would clear. One morning, i woke up n though d right eye which had d apolo was open, but i couldnt see wit it, i only see wit d left eye. Since it was an emergency i ran to an eye dr who gave some prescription n dat was how d eye got open n i could see.

So i had to check into central hospital to see anoda eye dr. D prescribed drug dosage was making me swell, had to stop it. Its effect was killing. I read d test board n was unable to identify d alphabets in d last 2 lines with my right eye. Now I got a blurred vision n do see black spot going along ma vision.

Please how can i get my eyes completely cleared n d black spot removed as well. Thanks. Please

do u notice coloured circles around lights? Re u also photophobic? Do u find it difficult seeing in nt well lightened places

dr steroid cataract may b suspected frm my point of reasoning.

it shows u re highly photophobic,try reduce the brightness of ur laptop screen..and avoid 2 much bright light..or better still u can visit an eye clinic were a photochromic lens can be prescribed 2 u with ur refractive correction if any..tanx

. Photophobia is a symptom tellin u smtin iz wrong wit ur eye. So its better u go to ur eye dr so he or she diagnoses d underlyin cause.

I'm 35 and i'v been wearing glasses since 2001. i'm myopic, by that i mean i don't need glasses to read or write but i need glasses to drive. Since february this year i'v been having dual vision when i use glasses (i mean i see double). i'v changed glasses about 3 times since then but none is good enough. is it age or i'm not getting d right test & glasses. what causes dual vision?

U wlc. BTW : if its myopia then it might increase over time.

my daddy have glaucoma but we have tried many eye drop but it is not work. what next should we do

wz it recomended by his eye doc nd did he stick to d medication. Glaucoma is to b managed for lyf. If he sticks to his med nd constantly go for his iop monitorin, den he cld preserve his remainin vision

diplopia is associated wit diff eye conditions. Wld require alot of questionings nd probably test to knw whts d cause of ur diplopia. Its best u go see ur eye doc d earlier d better for u as it cld b smtin more dn u think

Doctor,is there any cure for strabismus?....I'd like to know cuz someon close to me is going tru psychological trauma due to this "deformity".I've done quite a few research on strabismus and I found out that surgery can be done.tho it can be complicated @ times.please dr,I'd like you to enlighten me more on this issue.its quite depressing.thanks in anticipation of your reply.

is d strabismus of recent onset? Any history of trauma to d eyes or surgery? Diff tinx can lead to one havin strabismus. I tink d person in question should go for an eye exam. D eye doc wld take a proper case history to knw its etiology cos even intra cranial masses cld cause strabismus

Pls Dr. anytime I close my eyes (mostly especially at night when I feel sleepy) I feel that there is something coarse under my eyelids. It doesn't itch, but I feel something is there when I close my eyes and move my head sideways or up & down. I tried to take a look under my eyelid using a mirror but there is nothing there except blood vessels. Pls Dr. what's the problem?

it cld b more dan jst a refractive error because of amaurosis frugax. go see ur eye doc. Cnt type much nw i m tired

I was struck in my eye with a metal object about a month ago.

Its healed and though the sight is not perfect as it used to be (I sometimes have to close the eye to focus better with the other and sudden eye movement takes time to focus).

The main concern is a flash of light.......like light caught in a drop of water that flashes past a corner of my sight at intervals. Its quite distracting.

Pls, What could it be??

u shldnt tk dis lightly as its smtin serious go to a gud eye clinic where dey hv gud equipments. A retinal tear cld b suspected which cld also lead to retinal detachment.

Drsteoids, I discovered I had eye issue in September 2011 when I went for an official training and couldn't read the content on the projector from the seat I sat, whereas my colleague that sat just beside me could read everything clearly. Earlier, I had noticed I don't get to read road direction messages until I get very close

I complained to my HR which gave me a letter through my HMO to see optician.


I was tested by optician and she asked why it took me so long to complain, that my eyes were bad.

I was given glasses. That's how I started using glasses. I use it only to drive, when in an event/class/programme that requires me to see long distance.

My question now is: my glasses does the job currently, do I still need to see an ophthalmologist for treatment? I have never seen an ophthalmologist. Never bothered about corrective treatment, since my glasses puts me in normal eyesight position.

sori an optician dosent examine d eye its either u visit d optometrist or d ophthalmologist these professionals are d ones dat can hlp u out wen u re havin an eye issue

d best advice is to cal ur doc nd inform him or her abt d discomforts u re havin wit d glasses. Den dey may review d prescription if need b. They wld knw wht to do. So i suggest u inform dem nd den get bk to d thread nd kip us informd on d outcome

thanks for your advise but this particular lens m using now was prescribed for me like 6 months ago and I remember complaining to My optometrist about the frequent headaches that comes with d prolonged use of the glasses but She dismissed It sayin that with this new glasses that I won't experience such again. truth be told ,this headaches keeps coming back intermittently especially at d left eye . I forgot to say that the two eyes ain't d same. the myopia is more at d left eye so I guess d power of d left lens is higher . actually I don't know the exact power of the lenses

its cald anisometropia. Probably d lens prescription may b wrong or smtin more to it dat nids more investigation. Sir how old re u sir nd wld like to knw wen last u checkd ur bld sugar.

@70 cataract is common and its not surprising. Its actually the lens in the eye that dev opacity. The management is simple : if the cataract is mature, then she should go for cataract extraction. Usually its done one eye at a time. If it is not mature, then the doctor might try some optical corrections to determine if there will be any improvements in her vision and comfort until the extraction. NOTE : Be careful not to allow anyone deceive u into buying cataract drugs such as catalins n catarest with the claim that it will clear the cataracts. Although they might help a little especially @ the early stage of cataracts BUT they do not cure or clear cataracts completely esp when dealing with mature cataract. Save ur money and do the cataract extraction.(The doctor will have to first assess the integrity of her ocular system especially the Retina to make sure that it is healthy b4 doing the surgery).

sori doc bt i tink it may nt b cataract @ her age she cld be havin keratoconjuctivitis sicca (dry eye) nd reflex tearin which d eyes tend to use as a compensatory mech in response to d dryness also occurs in sm cases. I dnt tink its cataract frm her complaints. More investigations shld b done. My humble contribution sir

there are basically different types of myopia each with its own causes n prognosis, hence,it usually nt compulsory dere mus be a change in ur refractive status after using d glasses 4 a while.I wil like 2 know the actual power of ur prescription.5years is realy too long 4 u 2 ve stayed without visiting an eye clinic...if u have high myopia,u ought 2 be visiting an eye clinic @ least every six mnths...I belive ur refractive status nids 2 be reviewed,dats y u experiencing eyestrains and headache cos ur glasses is no more compensating 4 ur refractive error..tanx

i doubt hw he wld b able to tel d lens power hez using as such is nt normally dixclosed to patients. Its gud he goes for an eye exam takin along his glasses.

goodevening doc , thnx a lot for ur help. i m short sighted nd i use a concave lens but my problem is that is already upto 5yrs since i started using my lens yet no improvement. day and day is just like its getting worse. please i dont know what to do and d problem is that i cant view distant objects without it. secondly whenever i wear i for long especially in d classroom during classes or during postings in d clinic, it gives me this scary headache in he left eye that makes me so uncomfortable. this is my HPC, thanks in advance for ur advise.

Probably its high tym u renewed ur glasses 5yrs is quite a lng tym now nd there might hv been sm refractive change in ur eyes dats why ur lens prescription is no longer comfortable for u givin u strains. I guess initially wen u were given d glasses u were nt havin these complaints. I wld advise u go for anoda eye exam

I'm a 19 year old dude, early dis year, i started having eye floaters, it started from a single black/dark floater on my right eye, now i have few floaters on both eyes. This is both alarming and depressing considering my age (teenager.) Please what can be done about this? Thanks a lot.

The last one i visited asked me to read some letters which i did and later told me that the pressure in my eyes can be overlooked and later gave me gentamicin and one other eye drop which i don't know it name.

pink eye also known as conjuctivities re of different types a proper case history nd physical examination may b needeed to knw d exact type nd d course of action to b taken. Though sm may b self limitin i.e they resolve on their own. Probably u may hv patronized quacks. Probably dr steroid nd jaunty wld b in a better position to suggest d right place for u

hydrogen peroxide is used majorly for tooth whitening, nd also in prevention of plaque accumulation and inflammation of gums. So if d pain she was feeling was from gingivitis as a result of plaque accumulation, it could av worked and relieved her of the pain . But for the efficacy of it on toothache caused by caries, I don't think so. Cos Dat pain is caused by the action of microbial activity on tooth structure.

. She had carries. D tooth givin her d ache had a hole. Nd i tink hydrogen peroxide has anti microbial property too

That's a possibility. However Retinal detachment do come with flashes of light and smtx floaters. Also the age of the patient as well as family history is considered too.

Everybody wants to be a doctor withour having to go through the stiff competition and rigors that medical school entails. The pharmacists, the optometrists also recently started a 6 yr program and are now called doctors doing all kinds of things including seting iv lines in phamacies and 'optometry clinics'. I wonder what the nurses, physiotherapists and radiographers are still waiting for. Truly competent unionists perhaps?.

Pharmacists and Optometrists who left school long bf this fraudulent scheme was contrived are brandishing complimentry cards appending 'Dr' to their names. We dont know who is a real doctor anymore n Nigeria.

Pharmacists have since abdicated their roles in the health sector to traders and are now looking for fertile grounds by corrupting an allied profession. Pharma practice in Nigeria has stagnated in Nigeria so badly. While breakthroughs are being reported in other countries their only achievement in Nigeria is being called doctors.

But the sad part of this is that if u want to be a doctor and still legitimately proceed with your parmaceutical dreams, U can. They are called clinical pharmacologists and the country has many of them. But these charlatans want a short quick route. Why not? Everything goes in Nigeria.

For those who are quick to draw a parallel with what is obtainable in the US and other countries, the Nigerian Pharm D is a fraud for many reasons I dont have the time to go into. Ghana started bc they saw Nigeria and many other countries with vocal trade unions will soon follow.

The Nigerian pharmacists have simply taken the fight against doctors to a whole new level and they consider this a victory in what is no more than licensed quackery. The consequence is a chaotic health sector where nothing appears to be what it seems.

Perhaps this wouldnt have happened if doctors out of selfishness have not tenaciously held on to leadership of the health sector in appointments to political and administrative positions! God help Nigeria.

wht do u knw abt optometry dat u shld mk such comments. It pains u optometrist re cald docs right? Dey re properly trained to handle eye issues independently. So dnt compare dem wit oda professions. Even u makin noise abt d doc title can u diagnose eye conditions? Lets learn hv respect fr oda professions nd set sentiments aside. Peace
