Good day sir, I need your help on how to use ratios to analyze a company's result and make investment decisions for short, medium and long term.Thank you megainvest: That book is too "American" to some extent. I had to skip a lot of pages that didn't catch my interest. Anyway, its a nice book to read. Lots of great insight. |

Dear house kindly assist @ufotty2001 pls help a friend in the house. Am tire of all these wahala by registrars ORAGBON: Goodmorning house, kindly assist again. Is it proper for first registrars to reject my signature specimen processed by my broker via CSCS on the ground that I did not use a particular unit bought by me through my broker from CSCS or on the floor, but that I quoted the total balance in my account as a unit? So because of this I should re-process another transfer form stating a particular unit bought through my stock broker. I thought processing of transfer form is to validate ones signature specimen, though I may be wrong. I need you advise. |

ufotty2001: good day everyone.. please i went to firstregistrar office yesterday to register for E dividend.. but later on they told me that i should meet my stockbroker(morgan) to upload my SIGNATURE SPECIMEN.. i have sent an e mail to morgan about the issue but morgan till now have not reply me! please anybody encounter such problems when registering for E dividend? what will i do to get my signature specimen uploaded? thanks I have similar issue but slightly differs from yours. In my case I have processed my signature specimen through my broker "Morgan Capital" and they have sent me the acknowledged copies from SEC and also confirm same been sent to the various registrars I have dividend with. This been done since March 23, till date I have not received any alert. I called up the registrars one by one only to find out they are yet to receive my specimen from SEC. Been calling, sending mails, SMS but no response from my broker.I don't know what to do now! |

ExLaidback:

Sure, only I don't know where to start.
People like Megainvest, NuttyChoky, Intendy, Raider76, Mercylicious and some others here are in a better position to answer this. There's another guy who's moniker I've forgotten.
But I'll just give you my brief answer as I know am reach for now. I've come into stock trading with a background in Engr not economics so... Anyway, the two most basic skills I believe you should have are Analysing Balance Sheets/Annual reports and trend analysis/pattern recognition skills. I've found the two, very key skills They entail a lot when you break them down. People generally say technical and fundamental stock analysis. But without being too esoteric, I think one can start with these.
There are so so many things that can affect the price of a stock. So many. Economic policies, business news, Nuttyfraud, deaths, appointments, new products, new competitors, profit, loss, war, time of the year etc. You have to be aware of how many indices may be playing on a SP at a given time t.
There are resources on the internet anyway. Of course we learn everyday and continue learning some more. I only started making money in stocks recently after taking it more seriously. The thing fit frustrate you if you'Re not careful o. So ... Thank you sooo much I truly appreciate. @Mercylicious@Megainvest@Nuttychoky@Intendy@Raider76 your help will forever be appreciated. your friend here has truly lost money in this market, I mean money! I believe God linked me to this forum to meet with great men & women like you all |

ExLaidback: OK you got it for N3.05? Very good price. I already have quite a lot of FBNH. I was almost gonna buy UBA on Friday, but my bid was too low by a few kobo, so I missed out on that.
Anyway for now though, I have just Zenith and FBNH in my portfolio. I try not to own too many (not more than 3 stocks) at a time. I have not made up my mind on the next, cos it takes time to do DD at times. Pls can you help with step by step guide how to do a dd on a particular company? |

iyb: registrars@cardinalstone.com send them an email they reply as soon as possible they will tell you whether they have your signature specimen or better yet just fill out the e dividend payment form and get a banker's confirmation of your signature then send it to them or the new e-dividend system i have been hearing about After doing all that, you will have to wait for another 6weeks before getting credited/paid. Been waiting for 3 weeks now going to the forth week after filling the e-dividend form, banker's confirmation and a written letter instructing them to credit my account.Rubbish!!! |

NuttyChoky: I learnt this the hard way as well...
Going forward I always use the concept of a trailing stop-loss.
If a stock you are holding for JIJO loses value by 5% ... SELL, you can buy back at lower levels.
If you are holding a stock and it is appreciating in value, at the end of EVERYDAY revise your stop-loss position upwards that way you can make sure to lock in some gains.
The only exception to this rule is when you are sure a stock (from every fundamental and industry analysis) is significantly undervalued.
As for FBNH, if you are not in it for the long term... Just take your L and move on with life Many thanks, just learnt something new |

ExLaidback: If you're targeting dividend or JIJO with a small margin, this is about the best time to enter.
Some of us first entered at N11.00 and have been averaging down since, so we don't really find these small small percentage increase amusing or welcome. For us FBNH has been disappointing to say the least! That is true talk. Been averaging since in entered@N11.07, and its going south.I don't know what to think of them. |

Raider76: All this discussion on when to sell and still get dividend is up in the air in my view. The system has so many loop holes and inefficiencies to be precise. I heard of cases where people get dividend years after they sold. On the other hand you can qualify for dividend and still not get the money without some hassle depending on how registrars go about verifying your holdings. Of course things have improved with better data handling and e-dividend. For me I normally decide if I am going for dividend. Then I buy early and hold until payment day. I also try to perfect my e-dividend mandate early, and reconfirm with registrar every year. There are stocks that I don't buy for dividend if I had difficulties with the registrars. If I think that I can get dividend and capital appreciation from a stock I will hold after payment date and wait for a rebound after mark down. This is what works for me. I don't try to work the thin line between closure and qualification dates to hit both div and cap appr. Nice one. But i think regulators should do something about registrars like Cardinal Stone who deliberately will hold your dividend for no reason, especially when one has met with all the requirement for e-dividend payment. These are part of the lapses we have in the economy, not just political office holders. Than God i have learnt my lessons. will never hold the share of any company that is under CARDINAL STONE REGISTRARS. They are fruad! |
