Good face and oremi, its not a news that abia is the best planned state in southeast, bad leadership is just the problem.
Abia state is the ONLY SE state that shares boundaries with ALL the SE states (Anambra,IMO,Enugu,Ebonyi) and also shares boundaries with SS states including River, Akwa Ibom and Cross River State!

This uncommon centrality shows how central the development of this key state will energize the entire SE and SS zone.We must all enthrone good visionary leadership in Abia state. Our lives depend on it!

It is obvious that Obiano wants to bring Awka to the level of a developed state capital.
He will be the first Anambra Governor that developed the capital city instead of their home towns, which they develop rather than the state capital city.

Abakpa junction, on the road to Emene Enugu.
We needs a roundabout at Abakpa junction just like the Ogui road roundabout. There is no need to maintain yellow fever police in run down traffic shades at Abakpa junction to control traffic 24 hours if we can have a good roundabout there. When the traffic police leaves his post for a minute to eat lunch, the drivers have no clue of what to do and traffic jam accumulates fast.

A roundabout at that point connecting two major roads is vital to maintaining a smooth flow of traffic, not to talk about the great beauty such roundabout will bring to the area as you enter the city.

PoliticsRe: Some Mind-blowing Tricks Used During Any War? Lesson To Be Learn by OreMI22: 1:03pm On Dec 10, 2014
DonaldGenes:
I've actually redacted this story to fit in our war against BH- something to_Learn

Now, when the British captured senior German officers during WW2, they didn't put them in a prison camp. Instead they took them to a beautiful country mansion, and plied them with magnificent meals and drink, and allowed them to listen to German radio and read newspapers to keep up to date on the war. Each had his own room and a batman, and were treated like senior officers in the British Army.
Of course, the officers had much to talk about to each other, but unknown to them, the Brits had wired the entire mansion and had a team of intelligence officers working in the basement.....Are you with me?

The intelligence they got was far more effective than pulling finger nails. They learnt a huge amount about the relationships between senior commanders and with Hitler. They also learnt a lot about German military strategy and tactics ... From the top.
Now that's intelligence.

In essence, this is something our Military men out there fighting Boko haram needs to learn from.
There is a difference between a fanatical terrorist and a professional soldier.

A soldier fighting is merely doing his job and may not even like the President or Hitler in your example. A fanatic is a morbid mindset. He wants everyone to die and thus why the commit suicide bombing etc.

A fanatic will never give you useful info in order to stop the war. Unlike a soldier that may decide to cooperate and allow you win so that the war will come to an end.

CIA has a reason for keeping fanatics captured in battlefields away from the real soldiers.Treating Boko haram terrorists as if they were captured British or German soldiers is a complete waste of time. Terrorists don't care to obey the rules of war or Geneva convention.

Agreed, many toes will be stepped on to get the development plan right, but it is a necessary evil. No one is guaranteeing it will go down smoothly, I doubt if it has ever been peacefully done anywhere. El Rufai pulled things down to get Abuja to its present status. Rivers state governor did same as well. So, I don't see why an error should not be rectified to get the city in good shape. Problems have always been with people not possessing necessary legal documents of their lands and properties so as to get compensated. Also not forgetting money-miss-roads that put up illegal structures, they will find it hard to be compensated and then resort to fighting dirty... but that shouldn't faze the govt. as long as it's determined.
I have no qualms in dualizing all the roads in old Awka and demolishing any structure within the right of way and dully paying compensation for the structures demolished. The question is at what cost? Where will the money come from?

Remember Awka, Nnewi and so on were people's hometown. People built in their ancestral land long before East central state talk more of Anambra state came into existence. So saying you will demolish structures without government approval and not paying enough compensation for the structure and the land is like going near a tanker full of fuel with a burning wood and saying you didn't know the flame will be so big.

El- rufai pulled down structures which were illegally erected outside the Abuja masterplan and he didn't have to pay any compensation because they were illegal and built after Abuja had become a federal capital. The analogy is different here. A better analogy will be the trouble that Governor Ibikunle Amosun went through to dualise a 3 KM road. People took him to court claiming their houses was worth N50 million even without cost of land, while N5 million was paid as compensation. About 200 houses were affected in that exercise and even at a conservative cost of N5 million naira for each demolished house and the land, it was easily a bill of N1 billion naira spent on compensation alone before talking about the actual construction cost for the road project.

The cost of paying adequate compensation for such a massive undertaking as rebuilding the old Awka will be beyond what a state like Anambra can afford.Instead of investing N1-3 billion per street project on compensation in old Awka, it can be used to build a 1,000 housing units Wuse II Abuja type housing estates in the new Awka city. Even Amaechi dualizing trans-Amadi and Old Aba road was a huge struggle in spite of all the wealth of Rivers state. In this case, he had no choice because there was no where else to build Port Harcourt, in Awka land behind UNIZIK and behind the state secretariat on the opposite side of the express is begging to be developed.

There is a bush town which became a state capital the same day as Awka in 1991. The wise planners of that state simply went to the land opposite the old town and started developing an Abuja -like modern city! Today, it is one of the amazing new cities in Nigeria because they were wise to invest all their money into construction of high quality projects than to be bugged down paying compensation for medieval structures in the old city.Only the transformation of Uyo is comparable to this city's transformation from what it used to be.
I will not mention the name of the city because our people in our self-styled ignorance believe we are wiser than everyone else. The video is just for you to see the physical developments (Roads,Housing estates, public buildings) not for the cultural or political things.I will want you to judge how far this city has come and see if there is anything we can learn from what they did.

PRESS RELEASE: Students' Union Leaders Appreciate Jonathan, Condemn 'Political Tools'

PRESS RELEASE

Revolutionary greetings to all and sundry in the South West Zone, Osun state, Ife community and the generality of Great Ife Students on a successful host of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR for a special meeting with the Council of Obas in South West.

The leadership of the Students’ Union is appreciative of the listening character of the President as well as the efforts of individuals who facilitated the meeting with the President. It is imperative at this point to relay the product of the discussion with the President. The Speaker of the SRC addressed the President and submitted the protest letter which he personally received and gave assurances that the major issue in the letter – increment in fees is going to be addressed holistically in no long time as there are other schools that are affected. He committed himself to address welfare issues that affect OAU specifically.

Although some self-centered and politically-sponsored individuals attempted to unleash their demonic resolutions to deter and dissuade the union leaders from making pressing demands that will enhance the welfare of Great Ife students on campus, to make necessary demands for the reversal of fees and the reinstatement of some of our suspended students from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. On his way out, the president stepped out to the cheers of the students, receiving a lot of applause from the entirety of Great Ife students and commuters having heard that he had committed himself on the increment.
Meanwhile, just as the Union President conveyed to His Excellency, we again implore the president to stick to his promise, as a man of honour and integrity, as Great Ife students are in great anticipation and expectance. The cheers you received today at the time you were leaving were premised on the fact that we believed you will address the increment immediately. Mr President, the reversal of increased fees should also be extended to all Federal Universities and pump funds into education in the interest of the country.

However, we condemn the attitude of some individuals who portrayed themselves as elements of frustration and cheap political tools. Through this medium, we warn them to stay away from OAU campus as they are not unknown to the leadership of the union. We maintain our ground as Intellectual Fighters for Emancipation and not as uncoordinated confusionists and anarchists.

The leadership of the Union is very much undistracted in the maximization of this opportunity to solve the myriad of problems confronting Great IFE students. We also remain committed to the execution of our proposed projects and the completion of ongoing ones – Angola and Mozambique hall water projects, Great IFE app, Union website, and buses for campus shuttle, union hostel, among others.

The brand new road from Enugu to Abakaliki, smooth as silk. grin
I am glad that the Abakaliki -Enugu express way had been rehabilitated to reduce accidents and make traffic flow easily.
However, Obasanjo actually promised to dualize Enugu-Abakaliki road during one of his visits to Enugu when Chimaroke was governor. Even GEJ also reaffirmed that promise to dualize the Enugu-Abakaliki road. Infact, Abakaliki is the only state capital that does not have any dual carriage road leading to it.

I wonder why Martin Elechi has not followed up on such promise, instead he is spending his time blocking investments into Ebonyi and playing acidic politics.

I still think this is a local government project, Enugu state government does not work as slowly as this.
I think the state government should step in and atleast help tar the major streets in Emene such as the old Abakaliki road, the rehabilitation road, Nkubor road and road linking Emene to Abakpa.

We all cannot live in Independence layout, therefore developing Emene is a way to make sure all income groups in the state feel a sense of belonging.

Awka Capital Development Manual Ready

the Secretary of the Board and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Housing and Urban Development, Willie Okafor, said the development plan for Awka capital territory has been developed into hard and soft copy prototypes, with visuals, while the aerial topography of Awka has been taken, toward making Anambra a smart city with satellite towns that will decongest the state capital.

The board members also assured that there would be no undue victimisation when they commence full operations, saying that genuine land owners would get compensated if their property are affected in the course of work.
Read more: http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=93007
A lot of demolitions will have to occur and a lot of people will lose their properties in order to get Awka planned. This will naturally lead to a lot of outrage, law suits and corrupt favoritism by officials who will be pressured or bribed to spare some buildings. In the end, all the energy will be spent in courts and the project will eventually stall from a lot of problems.

One often wonders if these demolitions and loss of property is even necessary at all, considering that a brand new city can be built around the greenwood estate and just leave the old Awka alone as the historic district.

We can truly plan the New Awka city using housing estates block by block as shown in the first map called "Extensions". The government simply needs to conceive a "Ring road system" to open up new areas for well planned residential or industrial estates to develop simultaneously inside the New Awka city.

Again, notice that in the first map, the streets inside each "residential estate or extension" isn't tarred yet, but the building pattern obviously reveal the entire area had been planned. Thus, the city can continue to develop for hundreds of years following the same organized pattern of expansion.

To launch the new city, the government simply built a dual carriage 'ring road system' which has roundabouts at every intersection to open up the entire virgin area. We should simply replicate the first map above on the empty land in the second map labelled New Awka Capital city and we would have been on our way towards building a well planned and modern Awka capital city.

One hopes that they take landscaping around all the projects very seriously to bring them to world class level.

Proper Finishing of projects is always our single biggest problem. Just as the Park road was beautifully dualized and they still failed to install street lights nor mark the road.

That is the basic difference that makes Akpabio's projects stand out. He doesn't play with the final perfect finishing and landscaping of all his projects to a world class level. His roads are always marked with street light and his hotels have excess flowers &trees, if you can ever call aesthetics and landscaping that.
For example, Uyo Meridian hotel is ugly structurally, but made beautiful by good landscaping.
