Yyeske:Part of the Nigerian mentality is looking at Lagos as a standard and trying to repeat the same mistakes of unplanned growth which forced the capital to move to Abuja. We should ALWAYS think of the BEST PRACTICES GLOBALLY AS THE STANDARD. PLANNING IS EVERYTHING! Many cities in the world are much bigger than Lagos, yet they are well planned and liveable. If the way estates are moved and well spaced in the surburbs of Abuja continue, even in 50 years time, it will not become a congested nightmare. Because it is decentralized and people can live in different zones comfortably. That is the best practice that should be adopted and not putting more and more things on Oguta road or Awka road in Onitsha or Zik avenue in Awka. Instead we should build MORE Zik avenues in virgin territories on Awka so that new developments can go there. The same way we should develop the Nkisi road all the way to Aguleri as a dual carriage way as Obiano severally promised during his second term campaign. The idea of confining every development within the old city boundary from generation to generation is the hallmark of failure of Nigerian cities and should be desperately avoided in Anambra. If the map below is laid over Anambra, it will cover from Onitsha to Awka in an East - West Direction and from Aguleri to Ihiala in a North- South direction. If you think about it, Anambra mega city project could adopt a plan like this and not that talking about Lagos all the time. The key to this plan is Roads, Roads and more wider roads. The culture of building dual carriage ways should be inculcated. Even if what can be afforded immediately is a single carriage way, just make enough space on one side of the road so that in the future, the other lane can be constructed without demolishing anything. That is how America function. They first build a single carriage lane BUT LEAVING SPACE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR FUTURE EXPANSION OF THE ROAD INTO MULTI-CARRIAGE WAYS. In the aerial map below, many small town were enveloped into a mega city with well connected railway tracts and dual carriageways. This is the best practice globally that should be the plan and not replicating past mistakes of Lagos because some people who have not been outside Nigeria are yet to realize that indeed Lagos is a slum city of unimaginable dimension. This is not an insult to Lagos, but merely a statement of fact. The fact that Nigerian cities base their model of development on Lagos is what makes Port Harcourt, Kano and other cities in Nigeria look the way they look. You only need to leave Nigeria and come back after 6 months to see Lagos with a trained eye.

Rochas should please leave these poor people alone. There is soooooo much hardship, unemployment and hunger under this regime. Please these people that are struggling with Keke to eke out a living free of crime should be supported by government and not bringing senseless ideas to make life unbearable for them. If they react and start burning things, then you call them unlawful. They should ban them from major roads with high speed limit so they don't slow down traffic or get killed, but they should be allowed to ply minor streets and take poor people from point A to point B. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iq460FrlToU |
cool318:Rochas and indeed an average Igbo person has a penchant not to patronize their own and run to Kaduna to buy PAN rather than buy INNOSON that is well adapted to our rugged environment and offer complete servicing and parts for many years after the purchase. Having said that, i give Rochas MAXIMUM credit for his efforts at developing Owerri. If Other SE governors developed a major city in their state by opening up many well planned estates to foster planned development. Then SE cities would soo begin to attract foreigners who would invest and live comfortably in the SE with all the amenities of a planned city available in living in Abuja. Rochas has a point to make at least ONE destination in Imo state of the standard seen elsewhere in Abuja. He MUST make sure Owerri International cargo airport attracts a foreign airline. Preferably Air France can combine it's Malabo- Paris flight to become, Paris-Owerri-Malabo. Or South African airline can combine it's Darkar flight as Jo'Burg-Owerri-Darkar-Washington DC. In time, Owerri will be among the Eastern cities and indeed frontline Nigerian city to attract major foreign investment as their base in Nigeria. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUjWuxA1l6U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVPBYZxQx38 |
slivertongue:When are we going to hear about what really happened on September 14th ? Who killed Nnamdi Kanu? or where is he being detained and on who's orders? |
My guess is that Hausa and Yoruba no longer exist in the SE and SS. I know the word reprisal has been removed from English dictionary. |
property123:Ok, i apologize for my choice of words. I want to buy or build a home in Naija. Just that people like to reap their brothers off. Even in America $50-60K will fetch a small decent home in the surburbs of most median cities, despite their huge cost of labor.
|
property123:God forbid me waste N18 million naira ($52,000 dollars) to buy that nasty crap posted there. Instead of spending N18 million naira to buy in that nasty, prison yard of an estate, i would buy land in Spyder's estate for N1-2 million naira and enjoy decent looking houses in my neighborhood and gradually build a decent duplex with enough flowers and trees to make it conducive for raising my children. The total cost will a still be better than one of these tiny jail cells for N18 million naira in such dusty environment.

Uglyojuku:Mehn, you are not ashamed of posting artist impression and renders as projects abi? Okay, i decided not to join issues when folks argue pointlessly and shamelessly post the same pictures a thousand times just to be posting something. Once you post same picture twice, you tell your opponent you have been disgraced but just too proud to accept it. But other spectators know you have nothing more to post that is why you are repeating the same pictures. |
Second Niger bridge again? I thought Cameroon built it already at their border with Nigeria? Remind me where this second one is located?

PDPGuy:Ticket prices fluctuate based on the season. If you try to travel from USA now, the ticket price is always more than $2000 per adult because it's Christmas. Also all flights into Nigeria from now until December 31st, will be fully booked but the plane will be almost empty on returning. The reverse will begin from January 1st when outgoing flights are fully booked while incoming are almost empty. |
I don't think it makes any difference to compare with Yoruba cities. It gives a connotation that you believe their hype that their cities are anything but... I would advice appealing with our people to remember their state and hometown while burying all their life investment in Lagos, Kaduna and Abuja. Nobody is coming to invest in the SE except people from there, so they should learn to invest in their area instead of being economic refugees thanklessly developing other regions of Nigeria where they are considered and treated as second class citizens. |
shaibu123:This is not true. I have flown from Washington DC to Enugu via Addis Ababa and my husband also flew the same day from Washington to Lagos via Addis Ababa and we both paid $1200 for the round trip regarless if we were landing in Enugu or Lagos. We flew in the same flight until we got to Addis Ababa and he joined the plane going to Lagos and i joined the plane going to Enugu. Mind you we started our journey from New Orleans using United Airways which was part of the total ticket. I don't know where the information that flying to Enugu costs more, except this is something they do to people purchasing tickets locally that are not doing so through Ethiopian Airline website or their office in Polo Park Mall. I also know it is harder to purchase tickets on Expedia and other travel sites since Ethiopian airline wants you to purchase from their site only and they will still call you to confirm the flight booking. |
post=62715744:I wish there is deliberate plan to plan these surburbs as Oba, Obosi now, before they are completely enveloped as big urban centers in their unplanned state. |
Michael004:Dude, I am not here to engage in useless argument with you. You know the truth and so do I. You are asking me to zoom in to see if Enugu has dual carriageway abi? You can find that for yourself, i don't have time for silly questions. While you are at it, make sure you count how many dual carriageways Enugu has, then compare it with Ibadan ![]() Truth is that you know Ibadan is a huge slum being passed as a city. Infact, the biggest slum in Africa, much bigger than Kibera. Infact, forget Enugu, go and look at Kaduna, Kano, Maiduguri, Jos, Dutse etc etc etc, There is none of them that look like Ibadan. They are true CITIES and not the conurbation of mega SLUM called Ibadan. Since you won't travel, Go see it for yourself and do something about it instead of playing ostrich and making fun of yourself. |
Jaideyone:You know your Ibadan. If i had posted anywhere else but Ibadan you would be first to say it. So stop playing games and accept the truth. You can see anywhere in the world on satellite now and Ibadan cannot continue to be hidden. There needs to be 20 years plan to de-slum Ibadan. Stop hiding the fact. Zoom what?? Does Ibadan even have streets in 95% of it's districts? |
Michael004:Dude, You can only deceive yourself. STOP snapping one street. ![]() Isn't Ibadan the biggest Why can't you proudly show us Ibadan at the elevation below? What are you hiding? As if we don't know what Ibadan looks like. ![]()
|
Jaideyone:Oga, No need to buy a drone. You can see even much more on satellite than drone. Satellite technology is just one click away and there will be no need for deceitful arguments when the truth is quite obvious. You know the bitter truth about the "rusted roofs" The place is a huge slum being hidden and labelled "Biggest city in Africa" Which city? ![]() We knew it's not a city but an eyesore, lack of toilets and sanitation facilities etc, but kept quiet not to ruffle any feathers Ibadan is the same exact Nigerian version of Kibera. Even Kibera is better planned and less a slum than Ibadan. Yet, it is the place that insults other parts of the country as villages. So people exposed it for what it truly is.

Africonji:No amount of propaganda will bring Peter Obi back to limelight. He was supported to reclaim his stolen mandate partly because Ikemba endorsed him publicly and said if Peter Obi did not perform, hold him Ojukwu responsible. Peter from then onwards rode on Ojukwu's goodwill to become Governor from a nobody. His next move was to dump Ojukwu and his party. As if that was not enough, he started serious campaign of calumny against the very people who supported him to rule Anambra state for 8 years! The people of Anambra have seen through Peter Obi's pretenses including myself. If you check my previous posts, you will see that i was a firm supporter of Peter Obi. Now i know the man was always just fending for his pocket and playing us all with fake tales of one watch and one shoe for 8 years. Peter Obi should retire from politics so that he does not incur more shame that will then become part of his history if he didn't know when to quit the stand. |
Michael004:PLEASE Stop deluding yourself.

PLEASE, What is Nigeria turning into? Intolerance everywhere. It is the type of nation you get when everyone from the President to the street sweeper sees the country only through the lens of ethnic bigotry. Nigeria needs inspiring and detribalized leaders. |
mercyville:Oga, why do afonjas always try to be smart by half? Keep deceiving yourself snapping one tiny estate and one building in Ibadan? You snap the same estate 50 times from different directions. See how the cordinate arrow keeps changing from direction to direction. Shebi Ibadan is the biggest city in Africa (Another silly lie). So the biggest city in Africa now has only ONE estate? What are you trying to hide? ![]() Why don't you snap the entire city? Is it only one estate you have in Ibadan? Notice that when your opponent snaps SE cities, they use at least 500 feet elevation so you see most of the landscape. What are you hiding from us in Ibadan landscape ![]() Zamo Zamo ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey5RCh7iios

ChimaAgbalajob:I always wondered why yorubas were so pained about development in the SE and SS. It is obvious they deeply resent people from there. Yet people from SE and SS troop to SW to invest and actively develop the place. Yorubas are one of a kind of people sha. |
post=62704825:While many people will say a lot of Housing estates have taken off, i hope Obiano gets more housing developers in his second term. The acute shortage of decent housing in Awka makes Anambra civil servants to live outside the city due to the unbelievably expensive rent on 1945 buildings in the old city. Awka needs at least 10 years of constantly opening new estates to meet it's housing requirements. Therefore, i'm glad Obiano jettisoned the tactics of former Governors of delaying the signing of MOU for very unknown reasons which frustrated the housing development in the place for a long time. I also hope they have removed ALL obstacles to planned development of Akpaka Forest into GRA Phase II Onitsha. Once the Nkisi road is dualized from GRA Onitsha and spurs into Nkwelle Ezunaka road until it meets the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, people can move up to Nkwelle Ezunaka to access vast land and everybody does not need to crowd into Onitsha for lack of roads to the surburbs. |
post=51229642:Awka needs one more flyover at Regina Caelis crossing the expressway. Onitsha needs at least 3 flyovers crossing the expressway at 1. New Cemetery road - Oraifite road, 2. At Oba Junction crossing the Onitsha -Owerri road for those going to Nnewi from Onitsha and those heading to Owerri from Nnewi and 3. A small flyover connecting Ezeiweka road Awada from Onitsha -Owerri road. This one is just to make it easy to access Ezeiweka when coming from Onitsha and to connect towards going to Owerri when coming from Ezeiweka road. These flyovers will remove the usual bottlenecks as buses and pedestrians struggle to cross the express to access these important roads bisected by the express way. I hope Obiano builds at least two flyovers in Onitsha within his second term. |
These Fulani people are truly obsessed with fostering deceit to advance their strategy of DIVIDE and RULE |
The so called investor should surrender the hotel to the State Government having breached the terms of the contract by refusing to commence renovation immediately. I don't trust these Nigerian business people that go and hijack a hotel without funds to renovate and return it to life. The same thing happened at the Onitsha Hotel close to the Onitsha Mall. Some faceless 'business' man said he would complete it into Radisson blu and he was given a huge concession to pay less than the construction and land cost. Only for him to abandon the project after acquiring it. Perhaps looking for who to re-sell the edifice to at an exorbitant price. Obiano should also re-acquire that hotel from those shady people. |
michlins:What can Obiano do in 2019 if the majority of the people vote for another candidate? Buhari is a heard sell in the SE and he knows it. It's like asking people in Kano state to vote Ikemba Ojukwu for President if Ahmadu Bello is running. Who do you think they will vote ofr even if they will be called 5% for it? The Best Obiano can do for Buhari is for APGA not to front a candidate so that he will get at least the constitutional 25% of votes from the state. |
ayokellany:C'mon Shatap with your silly lies! I know very few educated Igbo contractors such as Syder880 that use Eagle cement or other southern companies for his projects. The overwhelming majority use Dangote. Go and check the cement used in the construction showed in this thread to begin. Contractors in SE are using Dangote like its about to run out. Some say it's cheaper, some just because they are easily accessible by many distributors even in villages where distributors are supplied. As i said, i wouldn't have minded if Ibeto cement got the same patronage in Fulani northwest or if you people would patronize industries in the SE. Thus, when you secure northern markets and come and displace those eastern companies creating jobs in the east the chance to stay afloat, it is very concerning to an average citizen. |
horsepower101:In 2013-2014 when i was building a house in Nigeria, i struggled to beg the contractor to use Ibeto cement. He refused. The contractor confirmed that Ibeto cement was of the highest quality. However, then Dangote came out with the propaganda of 21 vs 42 grade quality cement. Claiming he was doing 42 grade cement. My contractor said everyone was using the Dangote and that the cement had become slightly cheaper than Ibeto. The trend has continue until date. Infact,it's not only Ibeto that was edged out. Unicem and others have gradually been edged out of SE and SS market by Dangote. If other Nigerians supported factories in the SE and SS such as INNOSON etc it wouldn't have been an issue. But the fact is that these SE companies only have a chance of patronage in the area where they are based. The way Dangote displaced them from the SE & SS market due to all the concessions the FG gave Dangote smacks of an economic strangulation plot. The FG only bans importation of commodities where Fulani holds advantage. See how they banned importation of beef to force everyone to eat expensive Fulani herdsmen beef. If Ibeto had the monopoly as Dangote, the FG will not ban cement importation to make sure he reaps maximum benefits the way they did for Dangote. Just as they will not ban new cars importation because they think INNOSON and few car companies in Yorubaland will reap the benefit. |
