eaglechild:I am not making excuses for Gov Ugwuanyi. But, If you consider that Ugwuanyi has one of the lowest allocations in the country, you will appreciate him. Personally, i think it will be a monumental waste for Ugwuanyi to spend money building more flyovers in Enugu, when more than 8 already existing are unkempt. I just blame him when even less capital intensive things he could do- such as beautifying the environment and all open areas such as Naira triangle and roundabouts and flyovers are left in unkempt conditions. Many African countries with much less resources than Nigeria look a lot better than Nigeria because they maintain their environment with aesthetic trees, flowers etc. They can't afford flyovers, but they build aesthetically pleasing roundabouts furnished with flowers which more than compensate for flyovers. Let Governor Ugwuanyi concentrate on how to transform Enugu using trees and flowers along the roads and in ALL roundabouts and already existing flyovers. If he budgets N1 billion naira for that project, he will see the quadruple effect of his effort to beautify the city as the choice destination in SE and SS regions. Beautifying Enugu with trees and flowers will more than transform the ambiance of Enugu as a tourist garden city than building a N50 billion naira flyover at ninth mile or Emene. Kigali does not have a single flyover, yet it's rated higher than Kampala or other African capitals that have multiple unkempt flyovers. Kigali simply make their roundabouts and roads beautiful and stand out. Gov Ugwuanyi should simply concentrate on transforming Enugu roads and open spaces with beautiful trees as Kigali has successfully done in the last few years. Enugu should totally focus on the Kigali example and try to out-do Kigali in planting trees and flowers along major roads and roundabouts. Then Enugu will have achieved it's niche as one of the few truly habitable Nigerian cities.

Buhari and his bunch of jokers. So Okonjo Iweala padded budget with projects and blinded the Senate from seeing the budget? Senate only saw the padded budgets under Buhari? Buhari is a shameless failure. Telling silly childish lies portrays how desperate he is to continue looting Nigeria. Today, oil price is more than $70 per barrel. What has Buhari done with the doubled national earning? Has the economy improved as a result of earning double? Buhari is simply a THIEF! |
nwabobo:Unfortunately, it will happen again. Those southerners especially the Igbos silly and thoughtless enough to still enjoy the graveyard peace in the north now are welcome to stay. When it starts, as they stated in the documentary, i will come here and simply say "it has started". Those southerners and Igbos crazy enough to still be living in the north will be lucky to escape with their lives, talkless of any property they think they have now.

They should go to the 8 flyover bridges around Enugu and clear out all sorts of illegal structures built inside the ramp of those flyovers and immediately begin to beautify them with planting trees and grass. Especially the 4 flyovers along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway end of the city. The same process that happened at upper Iweka flyover where you clear the area of miscreants, Ashewo kiosks and illegal parks already built within the ramp, then plant trees and flowers in the reclaimed areas should be replicated in ALL Enugu flyover bridges Enugu flyover areas need to be popping representation of the city and not bush paths abandoned to miscreants and motor park touts.

post=67937537:Solid erosion control work! One hopes the control is taken all the way to the valley. Any exposed soil will probably leach and eventually develop into an erosion with subsequent rains and speed of runoff water over the bare land surface. Unless they plant trees and grasses on the remaining land not covered by concrete is covered with trees to hold the soil firmly.

ANSMEDIA:I love this. If our people keep it up and make an appealing environment with trees and flowers just as in the picture, before long we would achieve the same type of environmental ambiance as Europe in all our cities. That is the only difference folks have been hammering that we should always accompany physical development with beautification of the environment to make the beauty complete.

Cjrane2:The problem is that Enugu state government has NEVER taken city beautification seriously EXCEPT Sullivan Chime. Enugu is only lucky that it was a well planned city. So every the distortion of its master plan and people building in open spaces which should be parks has not totally ruined the city. Yet, such rascality and distortion of the city should not be tolerated and must be addressed by a responsible state government. Enugu was always planned to be a great city, but those in charge have let all sorts of urchins to distort the master plan by building illegal shacks in every open space. If you visit Gariki flyover, there are markets, motor parks etc built on the ramp, Yet nobody cares about distortion of the city's masterplan to demolish these illegal structures. So now, it has become the trend in Enugu to build solid structures inside flyover ramps at Independence layout phase one to Phase two link flyover, the Ugwuaji flyover and many others. One hopes that somehow those close to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will prevail on him to do something about the bastardization of Enugu ambiance by building motor parks and shops inside all Enugu flyover ramps. Imagine how Enugu would look if Naira triangle and others are beautified and made aesthetically pleasing? Enugu will be the number preferred city in Nigeria because of the decency and ambiance such will bring. |
ShyCypher:EXACTLY |
investnow2013:Anambra does not need another substandard Sh!t called stadium. Such as the Linda Ikpeazu stadium in Onitsha. Its better to build a world class international conference center that can bring important conferences to be hosted in Awka. In the future a wide expanse of land to accommodate an international level stadium with parking for at least 1,000 cars can be built somewhere along Awka-Onitsha expressway to make sure it's easily accessible. |
spyder880:EXCELLENT WAY TO MAKE SURE ALL NEW HOUSING ESTATES ARE WELL PLANNED AND MODERN |
Xander85:The painting will make it look local and mediocre. But Nigeria governors are local and mediocre anyway. So, expect it to be painted yellow and black ![]() |
SalamRushdie:EXACTLY THEIR PLANS. Meanwhile other parts of the country, people are frustrated from registering and collecting even one PVC |
igbodefender:This Igbodefender is an abooki trying to insult and ridicule Igbos. I wish folks should just ignore him and his thread. |
Anything that is a raw material that will make this Federal Government to develop the mine in Igboland, they will rather import the product from abroad. meanwhile they will ban cement, beef or any product that fulanis hold a monopoly in Nigeria. |
meobizy:Buhari is seriously making so much money from oil sales now and just keeping everything quiet. If he were earning $37/ barrel, he would be blaming Phee Dee Phee. Now that he is packing money and flying around the world for check ups, he will just keep quiet so that Nigerians won'r ask questions where all the money currently made have been channeled. |
Buhari desperately seeking how to use fronts to loot Nigerian treasury. He will use attorney general to loot some Abacha funds, use Dangote to loot some investment dollars. Buhari is the worst corrupt dictator in Nigeria's history. Yet he screams "Kworruption" the loudest to cover his own corrupt practices and looting. HYPOCRITE! |
Onitsha mall now. Agulu lake (Golden Tulip) now Obiano could have abandoned these projects as other Nigerian governors do. Or even start his own malls. If Obiano completes the Nnewi and Awka malls tomorrow, he deserves the credit and not who flagged them off without money or even a great plan to build them. For instance, Look at the silly design of Nnewi mall to have a car park on the roof without seriously considering the serious financial implication of such design would make the mall un-affordable to build by a state government. If they were smart at all, they would have make the car park on the ground floor and use the top floor for the mall and it would have been a great plan without building such pillars used for bridges in order to carry a suspended parking lot. Only Julius Berger can build that type of structure in Nigeria and it will not tragically collapse because they have the technical ability. Those indigenous companies used by Peter Obi cannot dare such projects or it will collapse and kill people inside the mall.
|
I will not give Peter Obi the credit for Onitsha mall, Agulu lake hotel and Onitsha hotel. Obiano deserves all the credit for completing them. It is very easy to award N1.5 trillion naira project knowing you don't have the funds to do it. But just playing to the gallery. The credit must go to the guy that struggles to find funds to build it. This is the same problem Enugu international conference center suffered. Nobody wants to take the pains to complete it because despite their suffering, our people will give the credit to the man who merely flagged off the project. The Enugu international conference center was even at a far advanced state of completion than Onitsha mall, Onitsha hotel and Agulu hotel were in 2015. See 2015 shots of Agulu hotel, Onitsha mall and Onitsha hotel pull from skyscrapper.com. It is clearly obvious Obiano completed the edifices.

OneCorner:Yes, In kworruption and treasury looting of the FG. |
One thing i love about this thread is that it was started by an Anambra person. People like him by their action shame Chino and Abagworo in their futile campaign to spread hate and discord prevalent in Nigeria into the SE. They have failed and will continue to fail no matter how many monikers they create to spread hate. |
neezar:We need more hang out joints in the SE especially in Awka. Something similar to Ibari-Ogwa in Owerri that doubles as an entertainment center and restaurant. It is part of tourism development which our people tend to overlook and just concerned with things like Ogbunike cave (Which is also good). Sometimes, when folks come back from abroad in the village, its so frustrating that there's nothing to do except attend weddings and funerals. |
post=67331586:Mbadinuju almost ruined Anambra state. He could have signed a deal to cede the state facility for 100 years to those crooks. I am glad the light up Anambra simply installed working street lights on the side and moved on. These roads and other buildings will forever remind us how much Anambra was robbed and handed to mere thieves for decades. I am happy those are now in the past. Obiano should extend that road into an Awka ring road to open up new areas of Awka for development. |
post=67331224:I think Esther Obiakor was as far back as Ezeife regime. Esther Obiakor estates were among the first duplexes seen in new Awka from the expressway during Ezeife administration. Although they appeared shortly after state creation, they became abandoned and it took decades to complete them |
post=67330870:Thanks a lot! When i looked at the road design, i knew only a madman like Mbadinuju could have designed such senseless road. I am glad it is completed. It is is still part of development albeit it's confusing design as though they are three roads leading to separate destinations they way they put two medians on one road. |
post=67330333:Great to see somebody is actually planting trees in road medians in Awka! Wow, there is hope that Awka will emerge a beautiful city and nothing like Onitsha and Aba mode of development. |
post=67330208:, Thanks for the pics. Just wondering if you understand their proposed traffic flow here? Why build six labes with two medians in the center?? Why not just a broad dual carriage way with 3 lanes on each direction? Biko, explain this one if you understand this road system here. Thanks i advance.

horsepower101:Exactly, Local production of solar panels would be key to making them affordable to a large segment of the population. To make this market explode, a lot of people must be able to afford and install them. IBETO batteries could help us out by producing custom made batteries that can hold charge for a longer time. Battery technology is at the key of this right now. If you can have fast charging batteries that can hold enough charge and take the beating of being discharged up to 50% every day without breaking down, then we can all sing hallelujah! |
post=67302916:Of course Onitsha is twice more populated than Enugu, Awka and Abakaliki combined. Enugu is more spread out because it has good dual carriage roads leading to the outskirts of town for a very long time. Onitsha only had the Enugu-Onitsha express way and that is why development was on that axis. The Onitsha -Owerri road was just dualized less than 10 years ago and it has helped a lot. People moved to Asaba because Onitsha became impossible to expand due to lack of major dual carriage roads away from the city. The 33 (Trans-Nkisi) road to Umuleri needs to be dualized too ASAP. Obiano promised that during his re-election campaign. We have to see if that promise is kept. It will help decongest Onitsha and make living in the northern axis of the city a feasible option for the state. Dualization of the 33 (Trans-Nkisi) road from Onitsha to Umuleri or Aguleri will be the single greatest contribution of Obiano to the development of Anambra state. |
investnow2013:Great effort to clean up. One hopes that all the dirt removed from the gutters onto the roads will be cleared up quickly by the environmental sanitation truck. The usual practice is to bring dirt from the gutters to the road and then leave it there for the rains to wash them back into the gutter and everything returns to square one Africa and the way Africans operate is one of the funniest phenomena i have studied in my life. |
horsepower101:Yes, my fear is that to get the airport done quickly, they may cut corners and build another shoddy airstrip that no international airline will agree to risk their plane to land there. Kaduna and Enugu airports still have problems attracting reputable international airlines. It tells you a lot needs to happen to attract international airlines The priority is to push the economic agenda of the state by opening up the area north of Onitsha through dualization of 33 road up to at least Umuleri.. Then get the refinery operational to spur economic activities. Whenever the airport is completed, it will only add to what is already on the ground. The airport is the last event to happen in the agenda and not the first. |
horsepower101:That airport is desirable but not a priority. The priority is to make the refinery functional, get captive gas for a small power plant to supply an industrial complex there and dualize the 33 road from GRA Onitsha to Umuleri and perhaps to reach Aguleri. It will open up a virgin area of the state for massive development. |
