Politics › Re: BREAKING News::Why Global Leaders Boycotted Buhari’s United Nation’s Address by OreMI22: 5:43pm On Sep 30, 2015 |
Marksule: ■ A conclave of world leaders, international media, and other delegates who thronged the United Nation’s General Assembly’s seventieth session were nowhere to be found when Muhammadu Buhari, President of Nigeria, addressed the general debate on September 28, and the poor outing was conspicuously appalling.
What seemed like a mass boycott of President Buhari’s speech may be associated with his nonchalant attitude and a lack of seriousness in communicating severe security issues related to the Boko Haram killings, it was gathered. International Guardian’s correspondent in New York for the event reported a lonely frazzled speaker, sweltering as he imperceptibly picked his words from a written script. “At some point, I thought he was talking to himself,” said Joel McHenry, another delegate, a Canadian-based observer who spoke to our newsroom.
Another delegate associated with the United States office of the Secretary of States categorically labelled Buhari’s absence and attitude over issues of security as “utterly dismissive.” “World leaders are so engaged with regions serious about their agenda, and Nigeria has not shown that enthusiasm,” he said. In July, International Guardian reported how President Muhammad Buhari’s exorbitant visit to the United State emitted some horrible stakes causing the White House to voice out complete disappointed about a total lack of preparedness by the Nigerian contingent to discuss vital issues about both countries. The Obama administration had also decried a poor presentation of policy needs and updates made by the Nigerian leader.
President Buhari’s UN outing has equally been riddled with controversy over poor logistics, lackadaisical preparations, and process incomprehensibility. First, he had missed a United Nation’s meeting in which countries affected by Boko Haram's violence pleaded for assistance for those displaced by the insurgency. In a region where millions are being displaced by the Islamist outfit, Nigeria’s absence from this meeting was seen as blow to a global collaboration for assistance over war against terrorism. For instance, a few weeks ago, the Geneva-based International Organization for Migration estimated that at least 2.1m Nigerians have been displaced since the group began violence in 2009.
Another embarrassment yet plagued President Buhari's outing when he was prevented from meeting Pope Francis for arriving late at the facility, and aimlessness using the wrong gate. As a process, presidents, governmental heads, and delegates are expected to arrive early for UN engagements, and facilitators often brief diplomatic officers ahead of time to avoid process failures. It was not clear what happened in President Buhari’s case as his entourage, handlers, and the Nigerian embassy staff were busy trading blames about the shameful outings. It may be recalled that in July, the President fired all non-career Nigerian ambassadors in foreign countries in what he called an effort to "reposition the country’s foreign policies." In September consequently, he announced a proposed shutdown of some Nigerian Embassies and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, claiming his actions would cut down costs and wasteful spending. Since these changes, operations at most Nigeria’s foreign offices have been disorderly and structurally unproductive. It was not clear if the prevailing rigid work environment in these offices was the cause of President Buhari’s UN humiliation, but as one of the Nigerian delegates who anonymously spoke to International Guardian in New York put it, “I will not make guesses, but I can assure you that heads will roll.”

It is imperative to call for a total boycott of British-Nigeria and her murderous president Muhammadu Buhari because British-Nigeria is a rogue terrorist state that tramples on every conceivable human rights, particularly, the rights of the beleaguered people of Biafra and Indiginous People of Biafra (IPOB)—the organization agitating to free Biafrans from the wicked British-Nigeria contraption. Buhari is an avowed Islamist, genocidist, tribalist, and unabashed Boko Haramist. Buhari is terrorizing Biafrans—a marginalized people forced against their wish to remain in British Nigeria—because they are exercising their United Nations Rights of Indigenous Peoples to self-determination. He is killing, harassing, and mounting roadblocks; abducting, beating, shooting, and incarcerating unarmed Biafrans who are agitating to be free from subjugation, thus breaking international law and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of which British-Nigeria is a co-signatory to. Buhari has committed genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity and ought not to be embraced by other world leaders. He should be at ICC and not at UN.

Politics › Re: Buhari Team Accuse Ambassador Joy Ogwu Of Sabotage by OreMI22: 12:26am On Sep 29, 2015 |
argon500: Members of President Buhari’s delegation to the United nations General Assembly have accused Prof.Joy Ogwu, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, of sabotaging President Muhammadu Buhari’s participation, citing glaring missteps that have embarrassed the delegation and undermined Nigeria’s/
The accusation follows curious circumstances in which Nigeria missed two key events, putting its leadership on the spot. The first was a Boko Haram response event chaired by a UN Under-Secretary Mike O’Brien, which Buhari missed completely.
The Nigeria leader, who will speak in the general debate this evening, also missed a meeting with the Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis, because of his late arrival to the meeting, the bizarre circumstances of which are only just being understood.
Sources within the delegation told SaharaReporters that the delegation also missed at least two other events and has had a difficult time securing full participation in the very important 70th Assembly.
In the case of the Boko Haram event, the sources told our reporter that it was never put on President Buhari’s calendar by the Nigerian mission.
Regarding the event with the Pope, Buhari missed it because when he came down from his hotel suite, there was no car to take him to the meeting. When he decided to walk to the event with his entourage, he was taken by Nigerian mission officials to the wrong gate, where they were denied entry by security agents.
Buhari then walked back to his hotel where, when he got on the elevator, the mission finally brought a car to take him to see the Pope.
Sources say when he made that second trip in the Mission’s car, he was again driven to yet another wrong gate and the delegation was turned back.
Also, yesterday an attempt by the delegation to attend a side meeting where Nigeria was to have declared its support for the “Commitment to Gender Equality” initiative almost failed as the mission failed to provide any secondary party to facilitate the Nigerian delegation’s participation. It took the intervention of the Chinese mission to help former member of house of reps Abike Dabiri and other delegates to get into the event.
And then today, members of the Nigerian delegation led by the governor of Niger state again denied access to another important event, “EveryWoman, EveryChild,” because of poor organization.
As Buhari prepares to speak today at the UN, the delegation also hit a major hitch as the Mission did not process tickets for all members of the delegation to get into the event. Only President Buhari and a few members of his protocol team were accredited to get in the venue. Our source said it was when Buhari finally got upset about it that Prof. Ogwu when out and processed acoustic tickets to enable a larger number of delegates to attend the event.
Apart from the fiasco with accreditation and general conference management, the members of the delegation are also not provided food in their hotel rooms as is the tradition. Instead, they are made to eat at a buffet at the Mission. According to his aides, President Buhari refused to go to the buffet.
The Nigerian delegation is staying at the ONE UN New York, (the former Millennium UN Plaza Hotel), across the road from the UN, and on the same block with the Nigerian Mission.
Prof. Ogwu’s tenure expires in December 2015. Several UN observers blames President Buhari for the mess, he berates the president delays in appointing ministers saying it is a major reason his UN trip failed miserably. A retired Nigerian diplomat told Saharareporters that President Buhari must have seen the folly in relying on unsupervised civil servants to run the affairs of state since he came to power.

All of a sudden being in possession of FOREX is now deemed illegal.
The raid on Onitsha market by men of the EFCC who arrested some traders for possession of dollars shows a hidden agenda to target easterners and stiffe their businesses.
If holding forex is now illegal why are black market operators who are mainly ab0kis overlooked over genuine business men who require forex to carry out their legitimate transactions?
As far as I am concerned the lazy ab0kis who stand in street corners trading forex they get illegally from the CBN and through money laundering are more dangerous to our economy than ibo traders.
So why is the FG not clamping down on ab0ki black market forex dealers?
It seems that ab0kis enjoy wide spread impunity to commit any crime of their choice under this Govt as can be seen with the rampaging fulanis and how selective the govt is to economic crimes.
If you go to the north, smuggling thrives in Sokoto, Katsina, Yobe and Jifawa with the FG turning a blind eye. They mob the bastard EFCC guys and kill them. Why would the Mallams that control forex market in Nigeria be allowed to roam free, while poor Igbo traders are harrassed? |

I have a question, on whose land will this reservoir be?
I am asking this question because I was looking at a business where one man can invest, run, employ people and expand his services when the demand sets in. I am not thinking of a government owned or funded venture (we all know in whose accounts the funds will end )
Who will allow you channel waste water into your reservoir when everyone can lay claim to it, or siphon the supply for irrigation purposes? How can we do this successfully? Who do you have in mind that can run this, the town council, or a private firm? Abroad they divert part of a river such an Ekulo river and it feeds the municipal water works for filtration and purification. Then the water is moved with big pipes to different areas of the city, from where they are distributed in smaller pipes into home and a meter measuring the amount of water that entered each home (Like the meter measuring the quantity of fuel at the filling station) is used to measure water quantity and a bill is sent to that hose at the end of the month. Small contractors are used by city water board to read meters and issue the bill. In each bill is a surcharge (Commission) given to contractors for their help in running the system.

Politics › Re: Reviving Enugu State's Coal Production by OreMI22: 3:05am On Sep 20, 2015 |
bigfrancis21: Coal & Electricity
Modern life is unimaginable without electricity. It lights houses, buildings, streets, provides domestic and industrial heat, and powers most equipment used in homes, offices and machinery in factories. Improving access to electricity worldwide is critical to alleviating poverty. Coal plays a vital role in electricity generation worldwide. Coal-fired power plants currently fuel 41% of global electricity. In some countries, coal fuels a higher percentage of electricity.

Source: IEA 2012
How is Coal Converted to Electricity? Steam coal, also known as thermal coal, is used in power stations to generate electricity. Coal is first milled to a fine powder, which increases the surface area and allows it to burn more quickly. In these pulverised coal combustion (PCC) systems, the powdered coal is blown into the combustion chamber of a boiler where it is burnt at high temperature (see diagram below). The hot gases and heat energy produced converts water – in tubes lining the boiler – into steam. https://www.worldcoal.org/media/jpg/585/174139cgart.jpg
The high pressure steam is passed into a turbine containing thousands of propeller-like blades. The steam pushes these blades causing the turbine shaft to rotate at high speed. A generator is mounted at one end of the turbine shaft and consists of carefully wound wire coils. Electricity is generated when these are rapidly rotated in a strong magnetic field. After passing through the turbine, the steam is condensed and returned to the boiler to be heated once again. The electricity generated is transformed into the higher voltages (up to 400,000 volts) used for economic, efficient transmission via power line grids. When it nears the point of consumption, such as our homes, the electricity is transformed down to the safer 100-250 voltage systems used in the domestic market.
Enugu State's Coal Production
Before the discovery of crude oil in Nigeria, Enugu's coal production used to be one of Nigeria's greatest source of revenue between 1916 and 1970, and completely stopping during the closure of the Nigerian Coal Corporation (NCC) based in Enugu particularly due to privatization policies by ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo's. What used to be once functional coal mines are now left to shadows of their former selves, dilapidated and abandoned.
Coal exploration began proper in 1909, with production at the mines in Onyeama, Ogbete, Iva Valley and Okpara climbing from 25, 511 tons in 1916 to an estimated 583,422 tons before a decline set in during the Nigerian Civil War which started in 1967 and ended 1970. At the end of the war most parts of the South east had been ravaged and many expatriate mining experts, mostly from Britain and Poland had left Nigeria. The exit of experts coupled with the discovery of commercial quantity of crude oil which made the government to abandon coal resulted in the neglect and subsequent abandonment of the massive infrastructure at the mines managed by the Nigerian Coal Corporation (NCC). The NCC tried to manage operations unsuccessfully for another 30 years but the game was up. It finally folded up in 2002.
Revival of Enugu's Coal Production There is an urgent need to revive Enugu's former coal production to an even greater capacity than before. Enugu state is said to have the highest coal deposits in Nigeria and hardly would one dig a borehole or foundation for a house without hitting coal. I am passionate about Enugu state because I am maternally from Enugu state, my mother being from Oji River LGA, and I did my undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of Nigeria Nsukka campus in Enugu state. Most of my maternal cousins live in Enugu and I grew up visiting my maternal village in Enugu more often than my paternal village in Anambra state. I hold Enugu state very dear to me.
Enugu coal mines can be located at Amansiodo Coal Field, Ezinmo Coal Field, Inyi Coal Field etc. The Ezinmo Coal field, which stretches from Enugu to Benue state, is reported to be able to generate 1200MW of electricity. Additional electricity sources from other coal fields in Enugu state and neighbouring mines in Anambra, Anioma Delta could add an additional 5000MW of electricity, thus ensuring steady power supply in the south east and south south zones, inducing investors to the SE-SS zones to invest, given the steady electricity supply that drives business success.
Take the US for example, coal electricity generation accounts for nearly 40% of its total electricity production and this is the highest electricity production in the US, followed by natural gas electricity production at 27.4%. The United States is able to generate a total of 1,060,000MW of electricity for its population, with proposed additional energy additions coming from renewable energy sources.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/54/U.S._2014_Electricity_Generation_By_Type.png
Enugu state can achieve this. With all the coal mines in Enugu state, Anambra state, and Delta state put into maximum use, constant electricity supply will be achievable for the entire SE and SS zones, thus making the zones attractive for foreign investors, business owners, and general development of the zones. Millions of naira in business operating costs would be saved yearly from alternative electricity generation from generators by companies situated in these zones, businesses would be more efficient and effective, more entrepreneurs would be encouraged to open up businesses all over the zone creating more jobs for people of the zone, poverty levels would further be reduced, and standard of living would increase in the entire zone. An additional 5000MW of electricity could be generated from this zone alone, compared to the current 3800MW electricity generating capacity of Nigeria in general.
The Nigerian electricity power generation figures are dismal. As of December 2013, the total installed or nameplate capacity (maximum capacity) of the power plants was 6,953 MW. Available capacity was 4,598 MW. Actual average generation was a mere 3,800 MW.
Not to think of other production uses of coal such as in steel production, cement production, liquid fuels as alternative to crude oil, combustion products etc., leading to the establishment of steel, cement companies around the mines in the zone and generating additional revenue for the zone.
With the right minds, resources and brains put together, SE and SS zones could be transformed to a Dubai in just under 20 years. The natural resources are in great supply, the mental resources are ever in abundance and the viability is assured. I would have applauded you if we were referring to a decent country and not Nigeria.
But since we are referring to Nigeria, they would rather have zero economic growth and stay in pitch darkness or even buy power from Chad or Niger Republic, than develop coal energy in Enugu since it is located outside the core north. That is the tragedy of the place called Nigeria. |

@ the bolded,
The choice of that bridge at that specific location was part of the grand scheme by Nigerian cartographers that ended the border of Abia state on the map where they did, in order to deny any part of the SE region access to the Atlantic ocean. Similarly, All access to the River Niger was removed from Imo state and moved into Rivers state. The natural border between Rivers and Imo is at Omoku. But it was stretched to reach the Anambra border to by-pass Imo! Simply because Ndoni community had oil ! The question is still, what language does ndoni people speak and who are they? If Imo state is in the SE region while some from ndoni in the middle of SE is in the southsouth, it tells you a fraudulent drunk has been making maps in Nigeria. However, in the fullness of time, Even if the Port is built in Opobo land of Rivers state. Who are the Opobo? |

chino11: You need to see multiple dual carriageways Obiano is doing to connect the International Airport in that axis. We should never concentrate development in just one place be it administrative city or commercial/economic city. Let the development spread state-wide that is the real thing. I keep saying it Obiano has foresight because he realized that the future of Anambra lies with the Anambra North. We need that area to spread development that will eventually connect Onitsha and Awka as one mega metropolis with Aguleri at the north end and Nnewi/ Ihiala at the south end. It is the proper thing to do for the future of Anambra state. |
