Today, APC has finally confirmed that their fight against corruption is a child's play. It is on record today that APC should not be taken serious in their so much touted fight against corruption. This administration is her own enemy. While PDP has directly and openly shown their interest and readiness to fight corruption by making sure that a controversal nominee who has serious corruption allegation on his neck was not confirmed as a minister, APC and particularly Saraki in his expected face-saving tricks led the APC-majority senators into confirming Rotimi Amaechi as a minister. This is without recourse and consideration to the Senator Anyanwu led committee report on the petitions against Amaechi.

Nay, this is a celebration of corruption by the administration whose obsession and preoccupation is shouting corruption fight. As an administration that is supposedly poised to fighting corruption, the right thing would have been recommending that Amaechi should go and clear his name. Even when he was invited by a properly constituted judicial panel of enquiry, which would have been the best time to clear his name and shame his critics if he were innocent, he snubbed their invitation with contempt. And none of his fanatical fans thought it wise to advise him to honour the invitation.

PMB by paying a deafening silence to the petitions and allegations of corruption hanging on Amaechi simply because he benefitted from the corruption proceeds has shown that his fight against corruption is only targetted at the opposition and his disloyal party menbers. Amaechi was only confirmed today by corruption. Yes, Saraki's confirmation of Amaechi showed that he could indeed be a stumbling block to fighting corruption. He thought he could use Amaechi's confirmation to anticipate and secure a safe landing in his CCT corruption case. But he might be disappointed because the PMB, we know is rigid and unforgiving. As from today, he should know that his Senate presidency is shaky. If he must remain there, he should get ready to start acting like a puppet becase his support base is now aggrieved. With what happened today, I just deduce that trachery runs in Saraki's vein.

For Amachi's fanatical fans, it's a win win for them, but Amaechi has a burden to off-load from his body. Until he comes out plain to give an account of his stewardship as Rivers State Governor, his integrity still carries question mark. Never in the history of Nigeria has there been an occasion when a controversal and allegedly corrupt nominee was confirmed a Minister despite the wailing of the masses, especially by those he served as their Governor and a mature walk-out by the Senators who sought to know the true postion of the petitons and allegations against him.
It is indeed a celebration of and reward to corruption. It is a sad day for well meaning and unbiased minds who want to sustain the fight against corruption and wail for a better Nigeria, more especially in this administration which can never say or write a word in her achievement book without mentioning 'fighting corruption'.

Amaechi already threatened buhari that he would ask for his money back if Buhari does not ask the party to confirm him.
Now, stealing is officially not corruption.

The bridges are not badly constructed as you may wish.

The problem of the south east is that our land is prone to erosion, yet our people intensely hate trees, flowers and grass in spite of receiving about the highest rainfall compared to any other region.Plants are the only natural obstacle to erosion.
When this attitude of erasing trees or any type of plant from the environment is added to high population density, indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters, you have a situation where massive floods flow over the roads and simply carry away the soil. Since nobody cares about saving the environment, the process continue after every rainfall until a huge erosion gully develops.

Can we open up a new area along the road to Abakaliki for low income estates? Something resembling the Federal housing estate, Abakpa, where people can actually invest.
Part of the strategy for affordable homes is building where the land is cheap. Land used to me cheap in Emene, but not any more.We need a new area to help in the quest of giving low income workers the hope of owning their own house.

I had told my story of NL in the Anambra thread when it was newly started. So I won't repeat it here. Suffice to say if yorubas and Hausas bashing Igbos were illiterate ediots, i would never join issues with those caliber of people.
To the contrary, if you see the calibre of yorubas plotting against Igbos and doing all the calumny & bashing all over the the internet, some are medical doctors, have PhDs and are University professors! It will be crass stupidity if Igbos like me who aren't even have as educated or half their age, ignore such yorubas in the name of being civil. That is what has irked me so much to join NL and voice my own disapproval.

I think it is a grave mistake on our part as Igbos to always erroneously think we are Nigerians first before being Igbo.
Every other group in nigeria think differently and our inability to comprehend this fact does not in any way spare us from its consequence.

Both neighborhoods have decent homes in spite of using very different building materials. We have won the fight about using local paints for our houses than the imported paints. That has helped create a few paint factories that have survived over the years.

In this particular American neighborhood, perhaps due to their soil type or due to having a concrete slab making factory close to them, they decided to use concrete slabs for the streets and sidewalks. Likewise, we should also have our streets made with concrete roads or with interlocking stones built locally using our local contractors. Then we would have finally started moving in the right direction in our construction industry. This issue is of the highest national importance, as it will help create massive amount of good paying jobs locally, while reducing capital flight which has killed the Nigerian economy that is so addicted to using foreign construction companies for even the simplest street level jobs.

I've already suggested rammed earth which more advanced countries are slowly moving to. Also wood and recycled materials like plastics would not only be cheap but would visually break up the depressing cement look of buildings in Nigeria. For example when you look at a house in Nigeria it's just a box of cements

My biggest concern is really using the cheapest locally adapted technology which uses 100% of materials in our environment to make good homes.

In the USA, wood is the preferred material because they have vast land with lots and lots of trees which they convert every year to building materials and immediately plant more.

In the SE Nigeria, we have lots of limestone and rocks,albeit under-utilized. however the technology presently used in building our homes which is Cement and rocks is indeed the best based on our natural endowments.The fact we are able to build houses is because the technology is easily available and the materials easily accessible. If we had to depend on foreign contractors to build houses, we would be having the same problems we have in the road making sector. So to make the technology to build good homes easily available to laborers is indeed a good strategy. we must achieve that too in our road making capability. We should begin looking inwards where we can contract out road making to a small company of 3-5 people, just as we contract building homes to small local companies.

I am really concerned about our insistence on Asphalt for road/ street making in Nigeria. Our soil type has proven that this method is indeed not appropriate for making long lasting roads in our environment. This poor strategy of using asphalt has perpetually forced us to keep repairing the same roads we built since independence without adding more. Our entire annual state budgets every year goes into rehabilitation and repair of earlier built roads. We rarely have built new roads which is a really damning fact to how we have wasted our resources over the years as a nation.

We must consider the use of concrete to make roads and the use of interlocking stones. I heard there is a machine easily available in South Africa and China that is able to pave great lengths of roads with interlocking bricks in very little time and this has been proven to last very very many decades before they ever go bad.

We must import some of these interlocking roads making machines and also popularize the machines that make the bricks used for these roads. Our state ministries of works can master the use of these and then we can award them intra city road building contracts. These will create jobs within our ministries while building our capacity to build our own roads. All these billions of naira wasted in getting one or two foreign construction firms to build us fake asphalt roads which will break down within 6 months to 1 year will then be saved from leaving the country. While we continuously improve our own internal capacity to build these durable roads while creating jobs internally for our own engineers and school leavers.

America the richest country in the world or even South Africa does not use foreign construction companies to do their roads,even when they can afford it and those German companies as Julius berger will probably do a better job than their own local American companies.
Why must we keep bleeding away our resources to foreign construction companies, instead of developing our own capacity?

We've heard about the N1.3 billion IGR since last year and anyone who engages the Awka Branch of the Nigerian Society of Architects (not a reputable Town Planning/Architectural firm like Akpabio did in Akwa Ibom is not serious; he's merely playing for media).

I am getting a bit tired of this media circus. If you are serious about town planning in Awka, you will start executing, not merely erecting "Willie is Working" signboards all over the place.

Not much is happening in the Greenwood estates area in terms of massive private homes being completed. But you could clearly see people have already bought land and are building.
Perhaps, most importantly, you can see it is a virgin area with lots of room for expansion.

The new Awka capital city will actually be north of the present Awka town. But, i don't think the state government has any plans for that area of town right now. Perhaps after the 3 Obiano flyovers make that side of town easily accessible, people will have interest there.

With all these investments and development hitting the soil of Anambra state, our government(ministries) are yet to see the need for proper plan of the state's Road network(especially Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi...). Most of the roads in Anambra States needs dualization , I don't know what the state ministry of works(highways) is doing? it's high time they scrapped this one - Lane, one - way road model they adopt for our roads.

Some of our roads need dual Carriage, and some even triple Carriage with side walks. The ministry has to improve on their quality control and adherence to specifications. You will agree with me that some of our roads are just "scratch and paint" (that's what I call it), no proper compaction(doubt if the contractors achieve 70%compaction),low quality asphalt, no/narrow side drains, no road lighting, road signs, road markings...

We need to start proper planing of our roads network now, because the time is near when traffic demand will prompt expansion of these roads,which has its cost implications (demolition and compensations) and the inconvenience it will cause residents. Our ministry of works has to come up with a better road model to compliment the human and economic growth sweeping across the state.

Developing Nsukka to become a top notch city in Enugu state should also be of utmost priority to the state.

The problem with most of us is that being in Nigeria where every effort is made to site everything in ONLY Abuja or Lagos, as if those were the beginning and end of Nigeria, we carry on the same regrettable mindset of siting everything ONLY in the state capital. Except in Delta state where they view Warri as the state capital.

Strategizing and developing Nsukka into a great green city should not take away the attention from Enugu city development. Just requires more government involvement in adequately planning the new Nsukka city, attracting industrialists to set up in the identified industrial layout of Nsukka is good for Enugu state.

Let us imbibe the American way of developing every city equally based on our resources. Someone living in Nsukka or Nnewi or Okigwe should have the same standard and quality of life as someone living in Enugu, Owerri or Onitsha. The horrible "one city mentality" must die in Igboland development.

Making all cities in Igboland habitable is the way to progress, not "one city state" phenomenon we inherited from the warped Nigerian mentality.

I have seen people here suggesting the best way to develop igboland is to build empty skyscrapers, build two airports in owerri, two in Enugu and two in Umuahia, but investnow2013 understands that you cannot be truly independent if you must depend on your adversary to feed you in order to survive.
