spikes C: Oh yes, we'll be thanking GodThanking God that only a fraction of young people in this dead economy are gainfully enployed?! Is there a better definition of idiocy? |
Congratulations but I don't see what God has to do with anything... There are more than 5000 men and women who were laid off by banks in recent times who won't be reabsorbed by any bank soon. But let it pass, let's pretend God simply decided to play favorites with you and the few others. But why is he indifferent to the 10 million or so young Nigerians who don't have jobs? Or, and, when the next round of layoffs inevitably happen in the future we will be thanking God too? |
Still has not opened to customers, just checked at their office today. Coming soon for over a year? SMH |
Few young men (who make up the bulk of n'lnd males) have had the luxury to make this choice so they won't know. But going by how old geezers and men who have power and fame roll, i'll say curvy sex dripping beauty takes it. |
Sisi_Kill: "I'm writing about where I care about and I deeply, deeply care about Nigeria," Adichie told The Associated Press. "Nigeria is the country that most infuriates me and it is the country I love the most. I think when you're emotionally invested in a place as a storyteller, it becomes organic."who else thinks CNA gives the most yawn inducing answers in interviews? @shymex pls don't come and mis-educate us here, our schools have done enough of that, the Man Booker Prize is not the alternative to the Noble Prize! And you should be wary of any cheesy award bodies that confer any sort of authority on works of art that naturally should stand on their "merit" |
Has this been the most one sided semi ever? |
America is the giant of africa. in my limited experience they've had more influence on me than any other country withinn Africa geographically. From the gods I worship to the things I read and the music, books, gadgets and things I consume; no other country comes close to wielding the kind of influence they've had on me. |
Why isn't there some kind of poll link on naira land? Why do I have to trawl through 20 pages on a thread to read the top posts on that thread, why can't i just sort for the most liked posts? Nairaland if you don't reinvent, some other nimble Nigerian forum would soon come and take ur place. Nuff said. @ Poster You are brave, handsome, naive and vain, more power to you. |

Success, working so hard for something and seeing it reap dividends |
I'm agnostic and my awesome exgf and I broke up recently. Being agnostic was a factor but not the main reason. I quit my job against my exgf's wish and a host of other stupid things that happened right after, all mainly my fault. And, I became really broke and insecure. I concur with an earlier post that said the most important thing for any Man is to be successful and hardworking. Girls would come. Yes. But that is superficial too. Depending on how you look at it You want someone to love you, inspite of your pocket size, beliefs, warts and all. But thats hard to achieve in Nigeria. So as sauer advised, we need to be tactful with our non-beliefs. Personally I felt it was a small price to pay. We went to church occassionally and even prayed together, anything to make her happy. Our main line of disagreement was that I told her when our kids were of age I won't ram down dogma down their throats. I'll expose them to the creationists and evolutionists side of the story and if they can(our kids), ask them to make up their minds. I did not have that luxury growing up. I was told only one side of the story and I grew up confused. I was quite curious as a child and suspected that there was something fishy about praying to an invisible god. I could not conceptualize it at the time (agnosticism) because I was raised in a very religious household and attended a strict catholic school were you were caned if you asked questions. And in the 90s mainland owerri was bereft of any kind of books that may have helped. Giving my kids options won't guarantee them peace either, but I'm convinced it's better to tell them both sides and allow them to reach their own conclusions about the complex world we live in. I'm pulling through. I harbour no hopes of ever meeting a Nigerian agnostic woman who is as charming and sweet in most areas guys want. Most important thing is to get back on my feet and accomodate any woman I find attractive irrespective of her race, ethnicity or religious beliefs. |
claremont: I don't think this article does any justice whatsoever to the thorny subject of mental health. This article is more or less about the personality type of the writer, trying to make us believe that mental health is the crux of the issue here is an insult to those who really suffer from it.+100 That's what I thought but could not have put it as beautifully as you did. |
Epic Bore! It would have been more interesting if she were a christian or deeply spiritual in some way. Non believers/Atheists who become mentally ill/depressed/suicidal are a dime a dozen. next pls... |
Sagamite: I can't have that.Nothing defines insecurity quite like what you've written here sir... You can't have a high self esteem and also be someone who derives a sense of worth from your perceived superiority to those around you. Not in my book @ OP, if you must, practice is golden, you can fake it till you make it happen, it works, Read all of Leil Lowndes' books, she is arguably the world's best authority on overcoming social anxiety. I've tried her methods and they work. But in my opinion, these matters like most things in life are overated. The most important thing in the world is honesty, something clearly in short supply. Just be honest, get on with it, I'd take a shy sincere saleswoman anyday over a silver tongued saleswoman only interested in squeezing the last kobo out of me to close a sale. |
cute face, that's all. shapeless body. |
Coldfeet: Late marriage should be avoided by all means!! There's no mr/miss right out there. My elder sis is 37! And still single! Not her fault but poor judgement on her part contributed but to God be the glory her wedding date is fixed her husband to be is 40!! I married early and I am ever so thankful that I did cos at 29 and hubby 30 we are done with child bearing!! Now the job is bringing them up. When I look at my sis who is just about to start the journey that I'm already through with at 37?? I can only pray and wish them well!In fifty years would you also be thankful that u made it to the grave before ur sis? |
staying alive long enough to be either married or unmarried is the only thing |
it just had to be a woman that would ask ![]() lame |
overdrive: Some thing is wrong some where everybody shld repent and seek d face of God cos I don't know where we are heading to as for me and my family we hv already ambraced and covered ourselves wt d blood of Jesus. No nothing is wrong, we were all born to die, we were all born with terminal diseases, everyone is dying at this point, but not at the same pace. so this is perfectly normal. ...keep dying lovingly |
used to see her and ola of bb fame at the bheerhugs spot @ ikeja shopping mall RIP |
I worked briefly with a local angel investment group and one thing that struck me during my brief spell with the company was the limited scope for ecommerce growth in Nigeria. Nairaland is arguably Nigeria's top social networking website yet it took the site more than 7 years to get to one million "registered" members ( a good fraction come from the diaspora by the way); for a country that has a population of 160 million, that is hugely disappointing when compared to social and gaming websites in china such as renren and qzone that have well over 100 million active members. Relatively speaking, no internet company in Nigeria is going to crack a billion dollar valuation any time soon for the following reasons: 1. Uncle Sam is eating our lunch, take a look at the top rated websites in every country in the world, they are all american ( Facebook, Youtube, Google) except in china. 2. Most Nigerians do not care about the net: I can't begin to tell you the number of reasonably smart Nigerians who do not know or care about nairaland, dealdey, jobberman, and Iroko Tv, lindaikeji etc These websites to my mind enjoy a huge chunk of their patronage from Nigerians abroad ( I may be wrong) 3. Education standards are falling in Nigeria. You need a web savvy critical mass to market too, we don't have that yet ( Over half of China's 1 billion population use the internet in some way) You'll be hard pressed to get 10% within Nigeria. And there's also no innovation coming thru. All we do is consume. Do Nigerians have the wherewithal to build the next skype, or ebay to serve a world market? 4. Lack of patient capital. Nigerian net entrepreneurs need more patient capital, not just shrewd VC investors, but angel investors who can invest quality funding in the range of 100 to 500 million and give you free rein to run your company. We don't have those yet. 5 Then of course, the usual suspects: phcn, corruption, lack of broadband etc |
all looks like one big di.ck measuring competition to me. most of our schools are rubbish, all the old gen universities are rubbish. bring the british back to restore our schools to what they once were! |
nijanigga: With this poor quality match? Wait until you go Brazil in June to play Spain and others. Then you will c how you will shame Africa.most cup finals are cagey anticlimatic affairs, yes the nigerian team was not at its best today what with its poor finishing, but on its overall showing in the tournament no one can deny they were the best team. Bring on spain, brazil and others! |
shadrach77: this picture is obviously photoshopped. For a start, PHCN would never use such a building for its office. Secondly, the signpost doesn't look real. It's obvious that it has been added to the original pictureOga I've paid my nepa bills at worse phcn building with generators in tow. |
If we are still having this debate, then maybe we are not ready as a nation to evolve |
No news here. Nigeria is an investor haven, with its size and large middle market. Investors who are only realizing this may be late on the money. But we can do much better. Structural reforms are needed, then much else will follow... |
my nails, looks, intelligence, sense of style are the ones i remember. i'm wary wen i get compliments from people cos i know i'm very run of the mill |
