Free education is the cheapest form of education and it always lead to ignorance and non functional education, I doubt if this people count their cost before making this declaration. This is the beginning of their failure, put their word straight I think what they meant to say is subsidized education.

Politics / Re: I Think Nairaland Has Been Tough On " Akala" Of Oyo State As He Bows Out Today by otitokoro1: 12:10pm On May 31, 2011
You are very ignorant about construction. you are comparing construction in lagos to that of accra, have you forgotten the compensations that will be paid to owners of demolished houses? dont you know houses are expensive in lagos and so will be the compensations. have you considered the nature of the soil in lagos? have you,

Sometimes I wonder if Nigerians have the mind set to make this country better. Why do we defend corruption as if it is written in our constitution. No matter what circumstances, the margin of the inflation is too outrageous - $35 million Dollars to $500 million dollars. You are talking about paying compensation to demolished houses, are there no laws guiding housing? All I know is that no one can hide form his shadow, Akala, Fashola and all of them are all equal, they are all thieves.

People really need education. THOSE BUSES DON'T BELONG EXCLUSIVELY TO THE GOVERNMENT. Can't y'all read before you crucify the Governor.

The fact that Government is a stakeholder in that business call for accountability.  It is the tax payer money that was used in the infrastructure development and these buses were priority bus because it is believed they are working in the interest of the masses.

I think the problem with the bus is about the management.  A source confirmed an embezzlement of one of the BRT Managers to some millions on of naira, if on a single project like this one manager can do that, that means there are several loopholes for embezzlement in that place, I seem not to agree with some point covering the inefficiency and lack of maintenance on the low cost of service to passengers.  BRT management should be looked critically into and overhauled.

Politics / Re: Lagos Brt Buses Are Gradually Turning Into Molue, With No Remedy In Sight by otitokoro1: 11:35am On May 30, 2011
Even from the early days of the BRT,I'd always said that allowing standing in those buses won't help anyone. Yes,I know everyone in Lagos is in a hurry but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do things right.Waiting a few minutes for the next bus won't kill anyone and standing should never ever have been an option on those buses.
I wonder why the BRT routes must be monopolized, I would have expected that LAMATA create a universal ticket for all BRT so passengers may have options.  With this kind of competitive environment, issue of passengers standing could be addressed,  BRT(Bus Rapid Transit) is not Mass Transit(Mass movement of People).

Religion / Re: Pls I Need Your Advise On My Wedding by otitokoro1: 10:41am On May 30, 2011
Hi Nlanders, I will be getting married in few months time the problem is that I am a catholic igbo man, my fiance also an igbo girl but attends one of the popular gospel churches and my father is knight in the catholic.

The problem is that my dad want us to do the wedding in catholic church while my in-laws tobe are insisting on going to gospel church but if I refuse to be married in catholic church I will be stopped from taking communion and I love this girl what should I do pls advice me.

It is simple, you ask your dad this two questions:

1.  Was this how your father did to you?

2.  Can your dad allow your sisters husband to dictate on such issue?

If you dad is bent on this, you need to ask yourself, are you matured enough to head your family?  In as much as the bible will not want us disrespecting our parents, our parents too should not make us angry,

My suggestion to you is these, it is not a sin if you don't do church wedding, Go to resgistry and be legally marrie4d to your wife, If you love her oooo

First, Lagos is not N154 billion in debt. It is N124. Second, no one has to borrow in life. . . but this limits whats you can accomplish and how quickly you can grow.

Robbin Hood, I hope Nigerians will wake up and define what we want to call Democracy and Good Governance, that goes beyond photo sharing, Governance Photo is not as real as impact of Governance on people, Cut your coat according to your clothes

As much as I love my country, I get dispirited when educated Nigerians on Nairaland speak or type like poorly educated agberos in the beer parlour.
Yes, we have a poor maintenance culture in Nigeria, but let's get real all vehicles in Nigeria are bought with foreign exchange and maintained with foreign exchange but we charge naira for their use.

there is nowhere in the world including South Africa where you buy an asset costing $50,000 (N7.5million approx) and collect fares of less than 50cents (N100). These buses are not grossing $300 a day with which they pay drivers, buy diesel, pay the loans, and buy spare parts.

Thats why many of the BRT buses are actually 'tokunbo' painted to look nice, the operators cannot afford to buy new buses, because the fares will be too high for us the masses.

So we have to be careful when we compare ourselves to other countries where the average person can easily afford to pay between N7500 to N10,000 a week for transport (in UK it's even as much as N25k per week for public transport), in Lagos (arguably the most affluent city in Nigeria how many people can pay N2500 per week for public transport?

So before we critise, let's be clear on the so-called Naija factor and the challenges the operators face.

Please do your research well before posting on this forum, It is not educative to publish an unfounded allegation such as this , thanks

People on nairaland are gradually making it a taboo for anyone to see and complain about anything wrong in lag.

How will attacking the writer and poster answer the question or solve the issue raised in the report. Some of us actually live and experience these things so stop making it a crime to cricticise, it isnt helping the guvnor as u might think.

Almajiris!

This is exactly the problem with this nation, If you call the so call numbers of the BRT help line, they are either not available or even when picked you just hear a rude response. Now The problem of Nigeria is not the people in power but the fanatics that follow them dogmatically,

I wish Fashola is aware of sites like Niraland,
Education / Fg Plan To Hands Off Primary Education by otitokoro1: 9:32am On May 30, 2011
President Goodluck Jonathan in a recent pronouncement said the Federal Government would hands off funding of primary and secondary education in the country.

According to the president, the measure will enable the FG to adequately concentrate on tertiary education while leaving funding of primary and secondary schools to state and local government and the private sector, which he said, can effectively handle these levels of education.

Religion / Re: Can Pastors Nationwide Ever Unite? by otitokoro1: 1:06pm On May 26, 2011
Honestly this question call for a concern. I think the problem is traceable to the history of churches even dated back to the time of apostles. However, in today's churches many people are more knowledgeable than the Holy spirit and that is why churches are coming up as a business center, God will help us. smiley

Religion / Re: Why The 'Daddy' Craze In Our Churches? by otitokoro1: 12:54pm On May 26, 2011
Alright I need to get this off my chest. Im a christian and a proud one at dat. There are sum things about the church dat I find puzzling but the one that really gets to me is this manner of calling pastors 'Daddy'. Im a member of the Redeemed Church but I have neva understood why our General Overseer should be called 'Daddy' & his wife 'Mummy' or 'Mother-in-Israel  Grin ( I particularly find dis funny). I always dismiss dis as a trend common & peculiar to our churches only. Of recent I got admission into the university & started attending campus fellowships. I was surprised to learn that the leaders, who are all fellow students, are called Papa and Mama by oda students. I wuld luv to know if dis is a biblical doctrine, fad or just a Nigerian thingy. Do u call your pastors daddy?  If so why? Undecided

I am RCCG member, and I want to state clearly here that you will not be crucified for not addressing your Pastor even the General Overseer as "Daddy".  However, you are right to observe that, but in all honesty it is a matter of Choice, God is the only Daddy of us all.
Many of us sometimes will address Pastor Adeboye as daddy just as a sign of respect, probably when trying to allude into some of his teachings and so forth, but it is optional not compulsory. Personally I prefer addressing him as Pastor Adeboye and I don't feel anything is bad when some choose to address him daddy, he is a spiritual father, other pastors are like that too.
