Omoslim26: Where did you get such narrative from. It's all about job opportunities, job creation. You can have a glamorously populated enclave with nothing to show for it in terms of employment. The topic is about the NUMBERS of unemployed Nigerians. 1) State A: Total population= 1000 Unemployed people= 200 2) State-B: Total population= 400 Unemployed people= 100. Question: Which of the two States above have a) the highest numbers of unemployed people? b) the highest unemployment rate? |

4four: 1st did u read the whole article? If yes can u point to the part he mentioned TRIBE? 2ndly if u truly read the whole article with open mind u Will get the logic or sense op was trying to point out, in summary he was saying may be in the future all this so call license holders with working refinaries may decide to abandon their refinaries 2moro if the cost of production is too high in the country and be importing from other countries with much lower cost of production but if u know that other will join the party if u abandon ur refinaries then they will seat tight, The same thing was implemented in Suger refinaries some of them have abandon their plant and importing brown sugar to refine. LASTLY MONOPOLY WILL NOT IMPROVED ANY DIEING ECONOMY, IT WILL ONLY ENCOURAGE EXPLOITATION OF THE ECONOMY You are contradicting yourself; 1) The OP wrongly insinuated that only Dangote and NNPC will be importing fuel but you are talking of those who have Refineries. 2) Operators of Refineries (note the plural) is NOT the same thing as Dangote. |

jabolo: This bill has been in development since 2000-wetin? Investments have been held up while it's been published in various fora and your elected representatives over several senate sessions have been involved in debating it.
Then it was finally passed. The international investment community breathes a sigh of relief.
Why the mischevious 'monday morning quarter-backing'? Often selectively put out there to inflame ethnic tensions? There are indeed mischevious forces at play in our nation and you have a responsibility not to dash them your brain.
==
The issue discussed by the OP relates to product shortfall. That means demand that exceeds local production for whatever reason especially in the short term. If that reason is as a result of local refinery downtime or malfunction, the license holders should have an opportunity to import fuel to cover their foregone production. I'm thinking the players in the industry inclusing Dangote, Walter Smith and other potential modular refiners, not necessarily useless NNPC.
It is unclear even if this is going to be profitable because, remember, they have invested in their own refineries and have to service the debts so idle capacity is never to their overall benefit.
Currently, our fuel importers are made up of 'rent-seekers' - corrupt parasites with little or no investment in domestic production capacity and no interest in that direction. If this bill incentivizes them to set up refineries to stay in business, it's a win for the country. Thank you for this explanations to them. The OP and most of the posters on Nairaland place tribalism above economic all considerations. |

Beancounter93: Things are bad.
But the problem with this article is that I have been seeing variants of this article for decades now. Infact i recall seeing reports from the 1990s 2000s and even ten years ago on the same theme. Price of ram shooting up.
Once it is holiday time, prices of stuff always go up. The average ram seller is probably trying to make enough cash to balance his books for the year, because in one months time the buyers won't come like before.
Infact most Nigerians do not buy rams except when holidays come up. The only customers for rams the rest of the year are probably butchers and maybe hotels.
All in all if you want cheap meat then we have to.change the way we practice agriculture in this country. Our population is too big to be fed by subsistence farming methods. Time we started things like ranching and other modern large scale farming methods If ram is too expensive, then they should buy he-goats or Camels. |

Penguin2: PDP is driven by existential needs.
They know that if they field a southerner with APC, then APC is likely to beat them in the game again. Because APC might hand it’s ticket to a Yoruba while PDP will likely field an Igbo man.
When this happens, APC propaganda machine will finish the PDP candidate up in the north; telling northerners how the ‘nyamiri’ will divide Nigeria if given power and that power should go a Yoruba man instead.
We know these things!
If you ask me, I will tell you APC is the one speaking through the Southern Governors and I urge PDP not to fall for the gimmick.
PDP should field a northerner. Let’s take power from these vultures first. That’s paramount.
So, I support the motion that PDP should throw the damn ticket open. There are many possible options in a political contest. |

I want to know what you meant by useful crude oil You sound too crude, unrefined and foul mouthed for civil and enlightened intelligent discussions. Idiko1: Yes, the advancement in Science and Technology is a plus especially in the process of extracting crude oil from the earth. However the crude oil found in Ondo was not about Science and Technology but sectional politics in the shithole called Nigeria. The crude oil in Ondo belongs to Bendel State now Edo and Delta States. All the crude oil wells in Ondo State were caved from Bendel State. The major oil producing community in Ondo State, Araromi is an Ilaje community and was never part of Bendel State. However what gives you this impression that once oil is been extracted in a place, crude oil can't be discovered in other areas close to the place over time? |

Odogwu if you like go under a waterfall and explore for oil and gas, if the basic factors ain't complete (source rock, reservoir rock, trap, temperature ETC) they're not going to put 1naira to drill any well.there are places in Rivers State with oil but they can't drill cus at least one factor is missing. You still don't understand the concept of sweet spot. Same reason I'm laughing at this frontier basin bullshit, another tactics to sink money in the north.. the basins they should be exploring for hydrocarbon is where there's proven sweetpot like the ND basin and the Anambra basin. Unless you can wait for another hundreds of millions of years maybe the Geology of Nigeria fit don change 1) Petroleum (Latin; Petra (rock) + Oleum (oil)) has been known and used as a source of energy since Ancient times and became popular during the era of the Roman Empire. 2) As recent as 1985, there were no crude oil in Niger Republic, Chad and Ghana but with advancement in Science and Technology, crude oil were discovered in these places. 3) The concept of what is 'useful crude oil in commercial quantities' changes with advancement in Technology. |

Courts are nit beer parlours where anybody goes with nothing but allegations and gossip, you got to court with evidence and facts
Kanu could easily say he never armed ESN, and ESN member who was found with arms had nothing to do with him. The Prosecution will have to prove how Kanu in London, armed ESN in Nigeria. Its not Kanu that has to prove his innocence, it is the prosecution that has to his guilt I am not interested in the legal issues of Kanu's trials (there are many paid lawyers on both sides to argue that) but pointing out the wrong analogy between armed Vigillante Security company and the Eastern Security Network. |

Suddenly the Nigerian idiotic politics led by Yoruba man named Obasanjo discovered crude oil all over Ondo. Nigeria is a real shithole. There are so many things that weren't discovered or even known in 1948 but are now we'll known today. With advancement in Science and Technology, crude oil will be discovered in almost all territories close to water bodies. |

gidgiddy: Really? So the armed vigilante that guards my neighbourhood, whom we all contribute money to pay, is illegal? All the neighbourhood that have armed vigilante in Nigeria are all illegal? Hmmmm...... interesting
One good thing about Nnamdi Kanu's arrest is that his critics will finally see that he is not the problem. Even Sunday Igboho thought that being a gentleman would save him, they still came for him and he is lucky to be alive. The arrest of Kanu will not silence seperatist voices, it wont stop Boko haram, ISWAP, killer herdsmen from killing people.
The only thing Kanu's arrest will do is give those who dont like his face some short lived joy. But they will still go back to the reality of a failed Nigeria It's crystal clear that you don't have even little understanding of the laws of Nigeria. 1) The armed Vigillante Security Organization guarding the streets are registered with and under the supervision of the Nigeria Police. 2) ESN is an armed militia established by Nnamdi Kanu and they are parallel to Police/Army. |

ghostwon333: 1) Benin city is only the capital of a large kingdom (or empire) which is also called Benin (Kingdom or empire). 2) The entirety of Edo-state is part of Benin Kingdom/Empire and so is lagos and Delta-state and many other parts of southern nigeria. 3) Things such as the bight of Benin and benin republic got their names from the Kingdom of the one and only Oba. 4) The title of the Oba got copied a lot by some people who seem to have forgotten that they copied that title from the emperor of Benin, so those people who call themselves "yoruba" have also named their monarchies after Benin. 1) Both the words ; Oba and Bini are Yoruba words and only have meanings in Yoruba language. 2) Oranmiyan introduced Obaship to Benin. Before Oranmiyan reign in Bini, the previous Kings were called 'Ogiso' In most Edo communities, the words for king is Ogiam/Oviam/Ogiso and its other variants. 3) Before Oduduwa's reign in Ile-Ife, several Kings had ruled Ile-Ife ,some of which had been deitified and many of these have the words OBA as prefixes to their names e.g OBAtala, OBAlufon, OBAluaye, OBAlufe. This shows that the words OBA predated the reign of Oduduwa in Ile-Ife. |
