Maps don't confer ownership of land on any tribe, more especially maps of African territories drawn by European cartographers centuries ago, many of whom never set their feet on these African territories.

Essentially, it's not the creation of the new regional blocs that made the SE "landlocked" (if I should borrow their words here), it's the corrupt demarcation of the boundaries..

It's also very poignant to remember that one vindictive Buhari was a big member of that Abachas government as the PTF head. While I agree with most of what you wrote about the hapless views of a placid Ekwueme, it's important to note that this fact you ignored is at the center of the problems going on as it regards the make up of these areas. No one is upset with the regions, what folks are perturbed about is the mindless utilization of these fake boundaries to allienate and devide "border communities" and steal their resources as is the case in places like Egbema and Obigbo...

Abacha may be a bad guy but to be fair to him, he was innocent of what you accused him of in this post.

1) Abacha created one extra State in each of the Geo-political Zone.

2) The new State in the S-South, Bayelsa State has no boundaries with the South-East and the creation of Bayelsa State didn't affect any Igbo community.

3) The boundaries of Oyigbo and Egbema weren't fixed by Abacha.

To be honest I'm not even irked at Wike speaking flawless Igbo while dressing as one, cause it's obvious he's doing all this just for politics... However the video highlights THREE very important things Igbos should take note of and learn from:

(1) Self-denial especially of one's cultural identity is a mental form of illness in itself and should definitely count as a medical diagnosis. Naturally if you're going to completely and vehemently deny been of an ethnic identity, it would make more sense to avoid identifying with absolutely any and everything that has to do with the ethnic group... you won't speak the language or dress like them, otherwise you are just suffering from a severe conflict of interest, or at worse some psychological imbalance.

(2). Igbos don't need this people, they actually NEED US as much as they will try to deny it, Wike was speaking pure Owerri Igbo in that video, in fact anyone who didn't know he was Ikwerre would think he's a pure Owerri man... Whether he's pulling all this stunts for politics or not, the underlying reality is that Wike, just like his Ikwerre people know deep down that they are Igbo cast-aways, all their ridiculous claims of Benin ancestry is just to console themselves knowing how humiliating it must be for them to be juet a mere subgroup of the greater Igbo nation... but they are now inconsequential prodigal anyway, their acceptance or denial of their Igboness is absolutely irrelevant to the Igbo nation.


Lastly, the cunning nature of the likes of Wike and Amaechi should never be underestimated one bit, you see how Wike suddenly dressed like an Igbo man and started speaking pure Igbo to the Etche constituents? well because he knows the Etche people of Rivers state are Igbos even though there are some traces of denial creeping in among them as well... Wike will pull the same stunts in other Igbo speaking areas like Obigbo and Egbema cause he knows speaking in his Beninphilic Ikwerre dialect won't sell among these people... so he had to switch up completely. I just hope Ohaneze Ndigbo will get sense and eject every Ikwerre member from the group, these people are just a needless and manipulative distraction to Igbo nationalism with the way they leverage on politics to "belong" when it suits their agenda...pure chameleons.

Ohaneze Ndigbo are made up of much older, better educated and exposed individuals. They know the futility and pettiness of asking some people to stop speaking a language or expel them from their membership because some of their kinsmen say that they aren't Igbos.

2) We are who we say we are ... ethnic identities are self-identities.
