Barriers between different tribes in Nigeria are gradually fizzling out through trades and marriages.

Many Igbos, Efiks, Hausa, Ijaws in Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Abuja, Akure, Yola have married into their host communities and their descendants will be less tribalistic.

Examples of the type of Igbo-Ikwerre relationship occur all over the world. It doesn't necessarily mean hatred.

Ngizim-Bade (Yobe State)

Urhobo-Isoko

It doesn't matter what Ikwerre people were in the past. What matters is what they currently are. They are a group of Igbo hating confused Bini people whose ancestors lost their Bini language and replaced it with the corrupted version of Igbo language they currently speak. That's the unapologetic image of Ikwerre from a pro Igbo perspective. . An Igbo can only see this if only the Igbo can eliminate sentiments and emotions.

That they bear Igbo names means nothing. An Ntezi (Ukelle) man in Ebonyi does not speak Igbo as a first language, neither does he bear Igbo surnames most times, but he is a real Igbo man whose loyalty and allegiance is to the Igbo nation. That's how nationhood work.

Ikwerre can bear All Igbo names they want or speak Igbo language, but their heart is black towards Igbo, they are truly Bini people. No matter how long the crocodile stays in the river, it will always come to the dry land.

Nwanne, accept that Ikwerre is not Igbo. Look inwards towards SE, and outwards towards Igbo groups outside SE that are proud Igbos. Group identity is like a relationship. It can never work if built on plea or manipulations.

The law enforcement agencies are always less quick to deal with Traditional worshippers.











By the way, are Boko Haram members and Fulani Herdsmen also observing the stay-at-home period?

Ijaw, Yoruba, Efik, Igbo and Binis that preach and practice Tribalism in Nigeria often bond together as one Nigerian community in S/Africa, Ghana and Abidjan.

If you go Ibadan, Ilorin, Ijebu-Ode or Ilesha and randomly ask 20 guys on the streets whether Ikwerres are Igbos or not, about 19 guys will first ask you, what is Ikwerres?

The first time I ever heard of the term, Ikwerres I have already spent 35 years in Nigeria.

The ijaws are the cause of the whole Ikwere are not Igbo saga..they needed the Ikwerres to accept a minority tag in order to dominate them in the new state. All they had to do was give people Buchi Emecheta a platform.

Today many ikwere are realising the need to integrate with the larger igbo nation in order to retain dominance in River state. Now yorubas have joined the ijaws to repeat the trash that Ikwere say they are not igbo. Why should Igbos listen to ijaw and yorubas on this matter?

They have been dropping the Igbo tag since colonial times.


1) One Hon Orji who was elected to represent an Ikwerre constituency in the Easter Regional House of Assembly caused a drama in 1955 when he rejected the tag 'Ikwerre-Igbo' and stated that the two are different groups.

2) In 1959, the Ikwerres participated in the sittings of and even submitted a memorandum to the Willinks Commision set up by the departing British colonial master to assuage the fears of ethnic minorities if Nigeria should become independent by 1960.

They regarded themselves as different from Igbos but as a separate (minority) ethnic groups.

3) The Ikwerres were part of the Calabar-Ogoja-Rivers (COR) Movement, a political group agitating for a separate region to be created out of the defunct Eastern Region , specifically for the non-Igbo groups in the Eastern Region.

4) The 1963 declaration of the Ogbakor Ikwerre Conversation declared that Ikwerres are a distinct ethnic group.
